The Power of the Rosary, by Gabriel Castillo, is more than a It is a theological bombshell, a detonator for spiritual renewal, and a lifeline for modern Catholics who feel lost in the storm. At once mystical, scholarly, and deeply personal, this work deserves to be placed alongside the classics of Marian devotion. It is The Secret of the Rosary for a new generation—expanded, clarified, and intensified.
From the very first pages, Castillo makes clear that the Rosary is not a sentimental string of beads for the weak but a divine weapon forged by the Queen of Heaven and designed to sanctify, deliver, and transform. With the precision of a scholar and the urgency of a preacher, he traces the Rosary’s roots from Sacred Scripture and the Gospels, through St. Dominic and Bl. Alan de la Roche, to Lourdes, Fatima, and the towering figure of St. John Paul II. Every chapter is saturated with insights from the greatest saints, grounded in tradition, and supported by the lived witness of souls who have been changed by Mary’s intercession.
Yet what makes this book shine is not just its doctrinal clarity but its deep intimacy. Castillo writes as one who has been saved by the Rosary. He speaks not just to minds but to hearts—to the young who are searching for purpose, to sinners trapped in mortal sin, to heartbroken parents, exhausted priests, and lukewarm souls in need of fire. His voice is bold but fatherly, convicting but compassionate.
Particularly illuminating is his teaching on mental prayer—how to truly pray the Rosary, and pray it well, using the method of the saints. He combines Carmelite mysticism with Dominican structure. It is here that mystical theology becomes tangible. Readers are not just invited to recite prayers but to encounter Christ face-to-face through Mary, to gaze into the eyes of Jesus in the mysteries of the Rosary, and to converse with God from the heart.
With clarity and conviction, Castillo
The true goal of the spiritual life and how the Rosary leads you thereWhy the Rosary is not just piety but theological genius and divine powerThe forgotten role of mental prayer and how to do it simply in the RosaryThe signs of spiritual warfare in your life and the way to use the Rosary to overcome every obstacleHow to discern what role the Rosary should play in your lifeHow to successfully implement the Family Rosary and share it with othersHow to pray with fire, conviction, and constancy—even in dryness and distractionThis book will pierce you. It will awaken you. It will challenge you to live differently. If you are willing to take up your beads and go to war with Mary at your side, you will not only change your life; you will help save the world, one bead at a time.
After The Secret Of The Rosary , this book is the best book on the Rosary! Gabi (from the youtube channel "GabiAfterHours") has played such a huge role in my reversion to serious Catholicism and continues to light my soul on fire for Our Lady and the Rosary. Let me share with you some of my favorite snippets from this wonderful book:
"The Devil cannot be defeated by self-help alone. You need the help of the Mother of God. Take up the Rosary." - page 6
"-the holier you become, the more intensely yourself you become: more alive, more vibrant, more of who you were meant to be." page 13
"Mary loves you with all the love of every mother who has ever lived combined." page 21
"Mary never loses. So many hopeless battles have been won by the Mother of God for those who have placed their hope in her and the power of the Rosary." page 42
"The Rosary isn't just repeating the Hail Mary; it is first and foremost an encounter with Christ in the mysteries. The Hail Marys act as a sort of background song that stirs up the spirit, keeps distractions at bay, and acts as a timer for the encounter." page 57
"As one who was lost in sin, I know that a special grace is given after the fourth Rosary, and I know that if you persevere in all four, not only will you overcome your vices but every aspect of your spiritual life will be elevated." page 63
"When we make even a feeble grasp at meditation on the mysteries, it will bear fruit" page 75
"God is working in us, most especially when we pray in times of dryness and distraction." page 91
"Moments of consolation in mental prayer are similar to a well of water. Now that I have identified where the water is, I can easily go back to that well to get more to drink." page 98
"The Rosary is so powerful that just holding it out of devotion does great good. When a Christian picks up the rosary with confidence, this act alone causes demons to tremble...... Always carry a rosary with you." page 106
"...when we are in desolation, we should look back at the time of consolation and know that peace will return. When we are in consolation, hoard it like food for the winter. Know that desolation is imminent. so we need to prepare ourselves..... when in consolation, it is wise to write down our resolutions.... (The Blessed Sacrament is the) most fertile place for discernment. Consult with Jesus and Mary about everything." page 118
"Those who pray the rosary do more for the benefit of the whole human race than all the orators and deputies, more than all the organizers, secretaries and writers, more than all the capitalists even if they would make their entire wealth available to the Church. (quoting Servant of God Joseph Kentenich) page 144
"Signal graces are smaller "coincidences," and they come after you have resolved to do something. The grace comes as a confirmation or sometimes just as a wink from God letting you know He sees you. You aren't alone." page 148
"The Saints are alive. All the saints that you have a devotion to-you didn't choose them; they chose you!" page 156
What I found the most helpful tips, personally... - Only pray the beginning prayers of the Rosary ONCE if you are saying multiple rosaries in the day. - Don't be scrupulous about saying a "perfect" rosary... you can (and should) pray it while driving, working, ect. - The only "badly said rosary" is the one you did NOT say. - Literally HIS ENTIRE chapter on mental prayer! - Ask for the grace to be faithful the to rosary. - Always have a rosary on you.
So good! If you don't already pray the Rosary, this book will motivate you to start. If you already pray the Rosary this book will make you want to either pray it more, or better.
The Power of the Rosary is a compelling and deeply moving work that rekindles confidence in one of the Church’s most time-tested spiritual weapons. With clarity and conviction, it weaves together history, theology, and lived witness to show how the Rosary shapes both personal holiness and the course of the world. The book avoids sentimentality while still stirring devotion, presenting the Rosary as a disciplined, Christ-centered practice rather than a mere private comfort. Its examples feel especially relevant in an age marked by distraction, anxiety, and spiritual amnesia. By grounding Marian devotion firmly in Scripture and tradition, it speaks persuasively to modern readers seeking depth rather than novelty. For our time, there is no better book on the Rosary. It is both a summons to prayer and a guide for persevering faith.
Life changing book. I’ve been praying the daily rosary for years, but after I followed the advice and insights presented in this book I felt like I only just started praying it for the first time. Our Lady continues to do great work through Gabriel and this book lives up to the legacy of de Montforts “Secret of the Rosary” from which it took inspiration. My copy was signed and stamped as a 3rd class relic of St Dominic. I’d recommend this book to anyone and everyone who has a devotion to the most Holy Rosary
this book is powerful and full of wisdom. It is the greatest book on the Rosary since St. Louis De Montfort's. In fact, Because its up to date and has important apparitions such as Fatima... I think its slight better
3 stars for 3 sets of mysteries. People get confused that the Luminous mysteries are a rosary, but it’s a chaplet and they should still recite the Joyful mysteries on Thursday. Think of all the rosaries missed in Thursday because of this misunderstanding.
Enjoyed this debut book from Castillo. It feels very much like he is talking to you as he does in one of his videos or in person. This style really works for 'The Power of the Rosary.'
This book served as a great reminder of the purpose, power, and importance of the Rosary. I appreciated the tips for prayer and call outs to support praying the Rosary in various states of life and vocations.
I don't think there is anything necessarily new put forward by this book, but it is probably the best one-stop-shop that discusses praying all four Mysteries daily. I think this would make a good primer to 'The Secret of the Rosary' for those who aren't ready to jump fully into that one yet.
I think this book could be a great resource for those interested in learning more about the Rosary or deepening their devotion to Our Lady.
