This review is for the three volumes that are out right now. I got to read this one through Manga Up app. I'm taking advantage of their free points program (which I recommend checking if you don't know about it) and I already have some interesting titles in my library. I got lured to this one through the art at first but the moment I read the blurb (which I rarely do) I was absolutely sold.
I loved how the story between these two develops, and how the author address how similar they both are despite their huge differences. How both crave to be understood and listened to, and how both fear to be misinterpreted.
I was curious to know how the author was going to give the reader a sense of how JSL works in static panels, but it was well done in my opinion. I'm not familiar with JSL, but I am with SSL and I think it was well conveyed.
I also liked how perfect both characters were for each other. Keito and Fujinaga help each other to realise things about themselves and move towards a better future for them. I also liked how the author managed the miscommunications they have. Neither of them makes drama, , instead they simply try to communicate with each other and move on.
So, I'm a bit further than the three volumes that are currently published because there's some more chapters in the app, I left the story in a good place (not the best, mind you), and I'm looking forward to reading what happens next.

The only reason it’s not a higher rating is because there wasn't as much sign language or BL moments as the first volume. It focuses mainly on Fujinaga's theatre stuff. But I still am just so blown away by the storytelling and the artstyle. I get chills honestly. I can't wait for the 3rd volume!

I love how both of them are struggling with their own problems, yet still find it in themselves to care so genuinely for each other. Their love for communication really shines in both their dreams and their everyday lives. And I really like how the story highlights their little habits, the subtle differences in how they connect with the world, and how you can see them trying to learn and adapt to each other along the way. It feels so intimate and tender, watching Aoi and Keito people meet halfway like that.

I love whenever the other thinks they're the only ones who feel that way and surely the other doesn't feel half as much and THEY'RE SO WRONG lmao. They both equally really like each other and it's so cute to see them fall madly in love ✮⋆˙

Compared to Vol. 1, this is more rooted in reality. Fujinaga is focused on his play, whereas Keito is adjusting to life without him. Not gonna lie, it's kind of off-putting to see the leads separated so early on. While absence makes the heart grow fonder, we've barely spent time with these characters or seen them interact with each other. This arc would've been more impactful if it happens later in the series. That said, I like chapter 8, which captures Keito's disorientation in new environments. I appreciate how the letterer uses typography to depict the extent of which Keito can make out what people are saying, from type set at half opacity for what he can sort of understand to scribbles for what he can't.

I loved LOVED this second volume - I didn't know if I remembered enough of the first volume but I was pulled right in. I love all the theatre stuff as well. The art is very expressive which goes so well with the concept.

C’est vrmnt très mimi supplément pédagogique vis à vis de la surdité. Si vous avez aimé A sign of affection c’est un peu la même idée mais on se concentre plus sur s’exprimer avec l’entièreté du corps que par diverses langues et c’est hyper intéressant !
+ la partie théâtre est aussi très cool je pense qu’on va aborder plein de choses différentes dans les tomes qui suivent

Vol 1 review
Vol 2 is centered more around Fujinaga's theatre scenes (his play, as he finally secures a prominent role), while Keito is living his life pretty much without Fujinaga's presence. Hence, putting romance on a sort of hold. Everything is almost slow moving, but at the same time, we have progression for the story itself. Go figure. In general, this volume is more tended on ''individual growth'' rather than romantic progression paced. I kinda like this approach, as also irl, you would like to be your best self first, in front of your partner, right? And as for the artwork, it's still as expressive and dynamic as before.

I don't really understand how their relationship is still undefined when they've both said they like each other, and kiss multiple times in this volume. But I suppose they haven't sat down and literally said "let's date," so that's on hold until after Fujinaga's play is over.
There's a big shift in this volume to the acting side of things, really showcasing Fujinaga's audition, rehearsals, and the opening night of his play. And I like that! I was incredibly skeptical of his acting abilities, but this volume did a great job of finally showing what's appealing about his acting and what makes him a little bit different from other people - and in need of a director and casting agents who get how to work into his skills.
Kind of weirdly, this entire manga-adaptation-play seems to have been developed for him? That irritates his better-known costar a bit, but Lem also recognizes Fujinaga's talent and seems to genuinely like him. I'm not getting love triangle vibes just yet, but I am enjoying him as a character.
Keito kind of takes a backseat, with Lem calling him "a charity case," much to Fujinaga's dismay, with a stronger sense of isolation because he can't experience Fujinaga's acting in the same way hearing people can. The scene with him standing in a room unable to hear Fujinaga singing was pretty powerful.
What's good about his character is that you never feel a sense of victimizing or...how to say it...I feel like a lot of the manga I've read with characters who are Deaf, in wheelchairs, etc, come across very ableist in their depictions, leaning into fetishization that tends to make me kind of uncomfortable. Keito's treated the same way as any other character would be, with his Deafness as simply an important part of him that impacts how he interacts with the world.
When it comes to sign language, I liked how Fujinaga put it...he wasn't trying to learn sign language for any Do-Gooder type reasons. He just wanted to communicate with Keito in his own language. Which puts a whole different spin on it, because he's approaching their communication barrier the same way he would if he was dating a foreigner and needing to learn English or French or whatever else to fully understand them. I think that's a neat way of looking at it.
I liked this volume a lot more than the first one, and feel like it's found its footing here. Looking forward to more.

Encore une fois quelle jolie série sur la surdité mais pas que ! C’est une rencontre magnifique entre deux belles personnages qu’on prend grand plaisir à suivre.
En plus, les volumes sont épais, alors on en a pour notre argent et c’est super chouette d’avoir autant à lire. Fujinaga et Keito se sont déclarés leurs sentiments mais ce n’est que le début. Et alors qu’on aurait pu s’attendre à un tome centré sur leurs sentiments et relation de couple naissante, l’autrice fait un tout autre choix.
J’ai adoré qu’on se concentre sur la passion de Fujinaga pour le théâtre et les interférences que ses sentiments pour Keito peuvent avoir mais qu’il surmonte. Après tant d’années à se retrouver relégué au second plan parce que trop doué et faisant de l’ombre aux autres, il trouve enfin lors d’une audition, un autre acteur à la hauteur de son talent et cela change tout. Certes, on est un peu au pays des Bisounours tant tout semble facile pour lui, mais c’est un bonheur de le voir enfin s’épanouir pleinement dans ce qu’il aime et d’oser montrer l’étendue de son talent.
Appréciant depuis toujours Glass no Kamen/Laura ou la passion du théâtre, je n’ai pu que trouver un écho ici. Et je dois dire que les dessins très vaporeux et félins de l’autrice viennent sublimer le tout par une mise en scène rendant à merveille la fascination qu’il procure à ceux qui le voient jouer. Alors certes, cela prend le pas sur la romance. Il ne se passe pas grand-chose pour celle-ci dans ce tome… Mais on apprécie vraiment ces instants uniques et encore plus quand il cherche un moyen de le partager avec Keito, lui qui est d’office repoussé hors des salles de théâtre à cause de son handicap. J’adore qu’on pense à l’association des deux pour faire progresser acting et monde des sourds.
Comme en plus tout n’est qu douceur et bienveillance, on se régale ! L’autrice ne cherche pas le mélodrame à tout prix et au contraire offre une place privilégiée à la simplicité, à l’authenticité, au simple quotidien. Quel bonheur de suivre des garçons sans prise de tête. Leurs moments à deux ne sont que plus mignons. Et pourtant, on n’est pas dans du 100% fleur bleue, les désirs s’expriment plutôt bien. Mais leur gentillesse transpire de partout et rend tout plus adorable. J’aimerais justement maintenant un peu plus de scènes pour développer leurs relation et sentiments.
Je valide encore une fois à 100% la série qui est train de détrôner Hidamari ga kikoeru pour moi qui est trop tombée dans le mélodrame à l’excès et l’histoire qui tourne en rond. Finalement en faisant un mini pas de côté avec la romance pour s’attarder sur l’épanouissement personnel de l’un d’eux, l’autrice nous offre des pages fascinantes sur le théâtre et parvient subtilement à évoquer le quotidien d’une personne malentendante par exemple lors des spectacles, mais pas que. Un vrai ravissement !

I’ll be honest: as much as the first volume was probably the most incredible BL I’ve ever read, this one didn’t quite reach those same heights.
And I think I need to reread it.
The separation between Keito and Fujinaga made me anxious enough that I suspect I rushed through parts of my first read instead of letting the story breathe, which is possibly the worst way to experience a manga this thoughtful and visually detailed.
Their relationship also left me a little confused this time around. There’s an aggressive kiss that I didn’t mind for being aggressive, but I couldn’t tell whether Fujinaga was really reciprocating Keito’s kissing. And then there’s this from the first volume:
“The man who loves you so, so much.”
Which remains one of my favorite lines in any manga EVER. Maybe my favorite confession. Except…was it actually meant as a confession? Because their relationship still seems undefined afterward, and Fujinaga is thinking about how to ask Keito out. I understood what was happening emotionally, but the exact romantic progression felt strangely fuzzy to me.
What remains absolutely wonderful is the use of sign language. I love the way Rinteku draws the movements and all the tiny details that come from Keito’s experience of the world. Like Fujinaga realizing Keito doesn’t really “call” his parents anything because he can just point to get their attention. Why would he need a name for that in sign language?
Those little observations are SO good.
There’s such obvious care and consideration put into this story, and I still want to sink deeper and deeper into it. I just think this particular volume deserves another, slower read from me.
⚖️ Shelf Verdict: ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Oh, don’t even doubt. I own this volume AND the third one! And when the fourth comes out, I’ll own that too. Just because I wasn’t as impressed doesn’t mean I don’t love the series.

Ich hatte kurz die Befürchtung, dass Band 2 nicht mit dem großartigen Auftakt mithalten kann, aber das Gegenteil ist der Fall. Er knüpft nahtlos an & verzaubert genauso wie der erste Teil. Fujinaga & Keito sind so rücksichtsvoll und sanft im Umgang miteinander, dass man sich sofort ein zweites Mal in die beiden verliebt. Besonders spannend ist die Frage, wie man sich in einer Beziehung verhält, die noch gar nicht richtig definiert ist und wie vorsichtig beide in Bezug auf Nähe und Intimität sind.
Besonders schön finde ich aber die visuelle Umsetzung: Die Darstellung nonverbaler Kommunikation ist nicht nur ästhetisch, sondern auch zutiefst emotional. Man spürt jede Nuance, jede Unsicherheit, jedes unausgesprochene Gefühl und schwebt förmlich durch die Seiten.
Das Setting hebt sich von klassischen Liebesgeschichten ab. Hier gibt es nicht nur Romantik, sondern auch die Einbindung von Inklusion, Wahrnehmung und den Herausforderungen, die mit einer Hörbeeinträchtigung einhergehen. Die Geschichte zeigt, wie wichtig nonverbale Kommunikation ist und welche Tiefe darin liegt.
Die emotionale Bandbreite und Charakterentwicklung sind ebenfalls bemerkenswert. Fujinaga kämpft mit Selbstzweifeln, Absagen und der Schwierigkeit, sich über Sprache auszudrücken. Keito wiederum muss mit Unsicherheit, Diskriminierung und inneren Konflikten umgehen. Gerade diese persönlichen Hürden und ihr gegenseitiges Unterstützen machen die Reihe besonders. Es geht um Mut, Selbstvertrauen, Akzeptanz und darum, über sich hinauszuwachsen.
Für mich ist Sag’s mit den Händen ein einzigartiges Werk, das berührt und inspiriert.

This series is so elite 😭 This is truly peak BL. I can't believe I'm in such a green forest as I read!
I loved this volume as much as the first one. First of all, it made me so proud to see Fujinaga get a role for a stage play. Baby did so well--despite fumbling the end of the audition. I just want baby boy to succeed at all his goals in life! 🥺
It also warmed my heart to see Keito go to Fujinaga's defense. After he fumbled a bit in his audition, his audition partner came to rip him a new one...and baby Keito said get the fuck away from my man. As is correct! Lem had to fucking relax. Keito really out here being an MVP 🙂↕️
The only sad part about this volume is that Keito and Fujinaga didn't spend as much time together because Fujinaga was busy preparing for his play. I loved, however, that Fujinaga brought up to his coworkers that he wanted the play to be more accessible for Keito. They all came together to problem-solve and found a solution that was doable. I was so happy! Baby Keito deserves to be able to know what's being said in the play as he watches his boyfriend slay on stage 🥺
I'm just so obsessed with these two. They sometimes stumble with their communication, but they always try again. Be still my heart! It was even great to see them talk about their kiss in the greenroom. Keito was scared he stepped over boundaries since he's not able to hear Fujinaga if he asks him to stop, but Fujinaga assures him he was fine and didn't feel "jumped." I love my green flag boys with my entire soul 💖

Keito was scared he stepped over boundaries since he's not able to hear Fujinaga if he asks him to stop, but Fujinaga assures him he was fine and didn't feel "jumped." March 20, 2026Mm, didn't like this one as much, but we'll see how book 3 goes. The manga stage adaptation arc was... meh.
BUT, there's one scene I really loved, where Keito is reluctant to use an accommodation that's been set up for him, even though it will improve his experience. While I'm not Deaf, I do require some accommodations for things, and I have sooooo many conversations with my friends who use mobility aids about this very issue. Mainstream culture hawks the ideas that accommodations are a concession of weakness, rather than a tool to improve access. Keito didn't specifically ask for this device, but he DID express that he had a problem which the aid specifically addresses. He spends part of the manga convinced that he can't experience his boyfie's play because he can't experience it *IN THE SAME WAY* as folks who don't require an accessibility aid. This felt so real, and it didn't come across as "hearing characters are charitable to disabled character," either. This conflict is internal, and he has explicitly told that his choice to use the device is up to him. Nobody implies that he should be grateful, either.
I don't know, I just loved how this specific part was handled, and that this issue came up in the context of improving his own experience rather than making his disability more convenient for other people.

Un autre tome magnifique, avec un contenu généreux (214 pages!) et des dessins toujours aussi beaux qui transmettent tellement bien les expressions et émotions des personnages! Cette série était touchante dès le tome 1, mais dans celui-ci, on s'attache encore davantage aux personnages, à leurs maladresses, à leur sincérité. Cela va bien au-delà de leur relation d'amour naissante: le parcours d'acteur de Fujinaga est particulièrement intéressant et il est exploré à fond alors qu'il joue un rôle important le mettant bien en valeur. Les autres réalisent son talent et Keito n'est plus le seul à le voir. Cette transformation du regard de l'entourage a des conséquences sur leur lien. Cela renvoie Keito à ses limites, à ce qu'il ne peut pas apprécier de Fujinaga parce qu'il n'entend pas sa voix. Même si leur aventure ne fait que commencer, ils devront déjà redéfinir leur couple. Quelle belle histoire, si réaliste et si juste.
Chaque planche est dynamique, les cases s'entrecroisent différemment de pages en pages et forment un ensemble cohérent, permettant de mettre en valeur les mouvements fluides des personnages, ou leur expressivité. Tant de pages sont des oeuvres magnifiques qui servent si bien l'histoire (pp. 198 à 204)... Le talent de cette mangaka est fabuleux.

This book focused mainly on Fujinaga’s acting and maybe other people would dislike that, but it really showed how much he was able to blossom under Keito’s support and encouragement, and after all of that for it to end with Fujinaga making his performance accessible to Keito (the one person he really wants to see on stage) really made the rest of the book worth it.
I really like what the author said in their end note, which was something like “this is not a story about sign language, or about acting. It’s a heartfelt love story!” — that felt very accurate to this book. It was just about Fujinaga and Keito, and that made it a nice, sweet read.
I’m about to start on the third book and I’m really hoping we get to see more of Keito’s reaction to the performance. It was obviously so thoughtful of Fujinaga to pull the strings to get the subtitle glasses for him and I hope that leads to an ACTUAL CONFESSION FINALLY (seriously they’ve kissed like 6 times what do you mean they’re not together?)
