Surviving Irrelevance is a Post Apocalyptic novel based in the Midwestern United States. A secret group of Muslim Terrorists finally succeeds in disabling most of the world with a series of EMP strikes and subsequent devastating biological attacks. After surviving the initial EMP and loss of the power grid, Tim MacDougal gathers like minded members of his family to survive the onslaught of anarchy and chaos. Before the pandemonium of Armageddon can even reach its peak, the group must contend with nuclear fallout and a relentless biological killer. Months later, after emerging from an underground bunker, the group strives to scavenge and survive in a world where they seem to be the only survivors. As they work to gather supplies to and make a new life, they are contacted by another small group of survivors in Idaho who are in desperate need of assistance. After relocating to the Midwest the Speer family lends a hand in building a new existence until Mother Nature decides to intervene.
There’s a very detailed section of the beginning, that outlines how the world ends up like it does. The entire section is unnecessary. It is also wildly unrealistic, due to social and cultural factors, as well as policies in place to prevent some of the attacks. Skipping past all that , once we get to the part where we deal with the actual people doing surviving, it’s a pretty decent story. A touch of implausibility here and there, but nothing you can’t get over to enjoy the story.
Overall, a decent read , although some of these survival advice to give disagrees with sources, I’m aware of. As a result, I have questions about how accurate any of the other advice is. But the story itself is interesting.
There’s a minor cliff at the end, that annoyed me, but was not a big deal.
A lot of mister Carson's books are, entertaining, thought provoking, and informative. This 1 is No exception. I particularly Enjoy the calm, rational religious aspects of these books. In all essence the characters conduct regarding religion is more a code of conduct, not a crusade. I would I would predominantly rate his books as 5 stars The only reason for 3 on this one was the sort of cliff hanger ending. Still Pretty good overall. Bill Hodges
I really like Carson's stories ........but.... This book is full of errors....mispelled words, wrong words, missing words, poor grammar..... And profanity......main character is self described pastor, but he and everyone else in the book has a potty mouth, women as bad as the men. But the kicker is the use of my Lord God's name in the profanity....
This one was better than many of the others. It was written earlier. They didn’t suddenly come into money. Main guy was already married. Just good, old-fashioned post apocalyptic, and how they coped. I would like to see another book to follow as this ended a little abruptly. But this book was written along time ago, so I doubt it.
Enjoyed this book very much. Where several twists that I had not expected. This seems like something that could really happen. Was a new twist to have two different type of attacks happen at the same time. Am wondering what happened to the attackers. Maybe in another story. Looking forward to the next story hopefully it will be coming out soon. Great read!
With this, I am all caught up on Ross Carson's books. On the positive side, they are all highly entertaining. The only downside is that the guy could seriously use a proofreader. I'm up for the job. :)
This is my favorite book thus far by the author! Well done! Loved that there was a build up, duration, post teotwawki and epilogue. Just wish there was another book. Immensely enjoyed it!!!
