In this Lone Woolf Task Force Orange short story, Drake Woolf, the "Man from Orange," is sent on a singleton operation to collect intelligence - from and on - Iranian major general and commander, Qasem Soleimani, of the Quds Force, a wing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responsible for IRGC foreign operations. While conducting his mission to thwart a potential CONUS attack, the powers that be decide to seize the opportunity to target the elusive military leader. This fictionalized version of a true event places the Man from Orange front and center of a political assassination in a "What if?" tale giving readers a sense of what could have been a behind the curtains look at the final moments.
"J.T. Patten" has worked with the intelligence and special operations community in support of national defense and policy. He has a degree in Foreign Language, a Masters in Strategic Intelligence, graduate studies in Counter Terrorism from the University of St. Andrews, and numerous expertise certifications in forensics, fraud, and financial crime investigations. Patten shares these unique experiences with readers to give them a taste of "the black."
His novel is written in a multi-layered non-linear plot style that provides a compelling inside view of larger than life covert activities in addition to the gripping turmoil that warriors suffer while battling foes and internal demons.

It is always a pleasure when a favorite author has a new story out in the wild, even though this is a short story it's still great. Jackpot by J.T. Patten is something to read while we all wait for the next full length adventure with Sean Havens and Drake Woolf. If you haven't tried the earlier books you should go and do that right now.
Whenever J.T. Patten releases a new work, everything gets put on hold until the reader reaches Mission Accomplished! Whether it is his latest foray into horror or him writing Black Ops fiction like these short stories from his Task Force Orange series readers are in store for an intense and dark read from beginning to end. In this latest Lone Woolf Story readers join Drake Woolf on another high risk mission that could either bring a positive outcome or keep the shadow wars going (to find out which outcome happens - read this!!). Drake is not your typical steel -eyed operator, but more of the realistic fallible type who has seen his fair share of war but still jocks up when called up to get the job done. With this short read the action starts and doesn’t stop as The Man From Orange pursues his prey. Bottom line: get this short story and then GET READ IN on the rest of the world of black operations.
Picks up where The Prescence of Evil left off. Jackpot is a short story. Short enough that I started and finished it on the train. In a way, that's consistent with Patten who typically writes chapters in bite sized chunks which don't waste your time. The ending is a teaser setup for a future Task Force Orange story.
Another very good short story on Drake Woolf gathering intelligence for a strike on a terrorist. Maybe there will be another Task Force Orange full length novel in the future....
