This book has messed with my head. It was not what I expected. I thought it was going to be a dark BDSM style romance staring a broken girl, saved by a dominant alpha male, but that does not describe this book at all.

Sure, it stars a broken girl, Sidney, who was broken by her insane mother. Her mother's physical and mental abuse knew no bounds. Sidney bears the physical and mental scars to prove it.

When her mother unexpectedly dies, Sidney suddenly finds herself on her own for the first time in her 21 years. Thankfully, she meets a helpful counsellor, and with her help, is able to get a job looking after an elderly woman. The job comes with free room and board, and it is there she first meets Liam. He resides in the apartment next to her.

Liam is able to breach Sidney's walls, at least as much as anyone had ever been able to. Sidney cannot stand to be touched, and Liam understands where she's coming from. They manage to find a way to be close in spite of everything. Although they never actually touch, they become as intimate as Sidney has ever been with anyone.

But there is more going on here than it first appears. Liam seems to have secrets of his own. Will he and Sidney find a way to a happy ending? I cannot tell you what happens, but I can tell you there is a shocking twist in this book that I never saw coming. However, in hindsight, it was pretty obvious. The author really managed to create a new and interesting way to tell this story.

Although this novel certainly had it's dark moments, I would hesitate to call it a dark romance. I really loved Sidney and hated the pain she was going through because of her hateful mother. I cheered when Sidney made progress in her journey to wholeness. Her counsellor/friend, Tina, was wonderful, and I doubt Sidney could have made it without her assistance.

Liam was perfect for her, and, so was the surprising new character who appears about halfway through the book. I can say little more about that character before I end up giving too much away, so I'll drop it for now.

Suffice it to say that if you are in the mood for a beautiful standalone romance novel, with a bit of darkness thrown in, then Apartment 2B may be just what you're looking for. I highly recommend it.

“With you, I feel things. Not just in my heart but with my body. You’ve healed me,”

Awe. This was a surprisingly sweet read from K Webster. The beginning starts off a bit dark, and I wasn’t sure how it would go from there, but it was a steady climb to a happy ending story. I can guarantee that this one isn’t anything that you’re expecting. It’s quick, emotional, and sexy.

Can’t ask for much more than that!

This book ended up being something totally different than what I was expecting but it still had K Webster's fantastic writing. She is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. The twist is SO not what I thought it was going to be. I went in blind and just had no idea. I will say though that this author knows how to write amazing alpha heroes.

I'm at 35%...I only got to this point with some skimming and hoping that it was going to get better...I mean, it HAD to get better. It didn't.

It doesn't make sense. None of it.

It doesn't feel (to me) like there's anything even remotely based in reality.

I can't read anymore...there are better books on my list just waiting to be read.

I understand that everybody has different tastes and that books will affect people in different ways but THIS...this, I don't get. All those 5 star ratings? Nope. Nuh uh.

Aside from the completely far fetched storyline, the writing is terrible.

**** 4 "She's Worth It" Stars ****

 photo sidney_zpsum9fwt7s.jpg

Sidney has had a really horrible life in her short 22 years. After her father left her mother and her when she was 10, life was pretty good, but turned really bad really fast. Her mother lost her mind and took it out on Sidney in cruel and hurtful abuse. Sidney accepted the abuse because she knew no different. She always knew it was wrong, but how could she love, where would she go. Not even be whipped or submerged into beach bath scrubbings could make Sidney leave. Then one day, her evil mother died and Sidney was free...FINALLY.

Moving on with life was not easy since Sidney has never had one, she finds a job taking care of an elderly woman. This job comes with an apartment of her own. Sidney finally gets to be normal, sort of. After years of abuse, Sidney is not mentally stable when it comes to normalcy. Surviving each day without breaking down is almost impossible but then she meets her neighbor Liam.

 photo lane_zpsoaf6lr2g.jpg

With huge walls up, Liam has the impossible of trying to make those walls crumble tiny piece by piece. When Liam finally wraps his distant arms around Sidney and gains her trust and heart, he leaves her.

Leaving her is the hardest thing he must do but it is for the best. Sidney doesn't understand why he must leave. They love each other. Liam is helping her find normal. They are helping each other.

"I feel like we can see into each other's souls. I can see right into his inner tortured being."

Only her normal never existed and Liam's twin brother Lane must find a way to help Sidney understand. Only Lane is tossed into the middle of Sidney's crazy brain and he will never believe her reality is actually real.

Apartment 2B was good and frustrating. The writing style felt very immature and annoyed me but this story was so intriguing that it was not enough for me to stop reading. The ending AND the epilogue....LOVED!!!!

I'm intrigued by this one.... sounds very different!

I've heard this has a paranormal element!! The heroine has had a rough life. Having escaped a dark past, she needs to find her own way in life and moves into a new apartment. Every day is a struggle… But then, “a handsome, yet mysterious stranger” comes into her life and he has “secrets he’s unwilling to share…” — I’m very intrigued!!

This one was not my favorite by this author. It was a little weird and the h character was not as emotionally and mentally stunted as one would expect from the long-term abuse at the hands of her mother. The paranormal element introduced picked it up a little toward the end. Overall, I just couldn't connect mostly because I couldn't get behind the h's character. She was too self-aware for someone who shouldn't be, except after years of therapy (maybe). Hope that makes sense.

Another fantastic book by this author. This story is about a young girl names Sidney that grows up with her mother abusing her. Her mother passes away and she has to figure out how to let people into her life and live without the abuse. I really enjoyed this book and there are definitely some shocks in here. Liam is Sidney's neighbor in her new apartment. He's very closed off from others since losing his parents a year prior. Amazing story you won't want to miss reading.

Gut wrenching beginning with our young heroine Sidney's life revealed in its living hell. Her mother is physically and mentally abusive to her after Sidney's father leaves them. This triggers her mother to swing between both moods and poor Sidney has to endure bleach baths and beatings.

When she finally is free of her mothers clutches she slowly builds a life for herself taking a job as a cook and cleaner to an elderly woman in a rundown apartment block, the job comes with its own apartment and with the help of her friend Tina she slowly builds a life there.

Now this isn't your average romance story as you will see, Sidney slowly deals with her problems which includes a handsome but mysterious neighbour who tries to earn her trust.

I cannot reveal much more as it is best to just let the story flow as I did and I can promise you will be pleasantly surprised by this well written book.

I started this last night thinking I was going to stay awake to finish, that didn’t happen....
The beginning was dark and uncomfortable but I could tell that the plot it was only just starting.
This book had it all the darkness, suspense, tension, the mind f*ck, heat, and all the delicious goodness that comes with a Webster novel!
Now that I finished it I can’t believe what I just read. This book will stay with me for a while until I read another K. Webster novel that shocks me to the core and causes the heart felt tears I just shed for this book.

This was hard for me to rate. There were some things I liked and some things that really brought it down for me like the love triangle and the fact that he slapped her. It was a big tear jerker, I cried twice I think. Overall, though it did have a happy ending the book left me feeling pretty sad.

Review of audio edition

This was an interesting story with lots of suspense and a good deal of trauma, weird happenings and some rather creepy characters.

The story opens with horrific scenes of physical abuse. Sidney, the main character, is left at the mercy of her mentally ill mother who abuses and neglects her as a child. The abuse continues for years until the mother dies suddenly and Sidney is thrust out into the world and left to survive and make a way for herself.

Sidney manages to find a job caring for an elderly lady. The job comes with an apartment and this is where the story begins to take shape.

Sidney enjoys her work but she is nervous around other people and there are creepy guys in her apartment block, a rather sinister guy who lives on the 3rd floor and makes passes at her and a peculiar young man who seems quite lonely himself. Obviously Sidney makes friends with the lonely young guy whose name is Liam but there is mystery surrounding Liam. Who is he? Where is his family? What does he do for a living?

Sidney knows there is much she doesn't know about Liam but she is attracted to him and wants to explore her feelings with him and so gradually she does but things start to change as they get closer to each other and Sidney realises that there is more to the mysterious Liam than meets the eye.

I thought the narration was good. The narrator had different voices for each of the characters and this came through even though there are great chunks of the story written in the first tense but I wasn't sure what this story was supposed to be. The opening scenes of abuse were quite traumatic and frightening to listen to and gave the story a horror story feel. As the story progressed it developed the shape of a thriller/suspense story, then things moved into erotica and ended on a romantic note complete with paranormal aspects.

In a sense this progression through the book not knowing what to expect is what made the story so interesting. And there is a happy resolution at the end.

Overall I enjoyed listening to this. I think the narrator was ok, not excellent but she did a very good job bringing the story to life.

I thought the early scenes in the book were quite traumatic and I nearly gave up at the beginning. I did enjoy reading this even though I felt it was odd in places.

Wow, this book blowed my mind. I'm still a little dizzy!
I did not saw that coming.

description

I didn't saw the genres tags and started this book not expecting much and If i’m being honest, I almost gave up. The dialogues and acts were not adding up and Liam seemed just too weird to me.
So glad I pulled through!
One particular scene at the beginning kept on bugging me through the book but I didn't looked much into it and things got weirder and then BAM!

“I don’t know what you mean,” I whisper.
She blinks at me in shock as my breath tickles her face. “Your breath is warm.” Again, she makes absolutely no sense.”

description

It was like finally putting the puzzle back together. Every little fucking thing made sense!
Seriously, I was reading by myself in my living room couch and after that I picked my shell-shocked self and gone straight to bed to read by my husbands side lol
But I absolutely loved this book. It’s somewhat short for the plot but it worked so well
I loved every character here.
This author is really crazy lol and I love her writing style.
If you looking for a mind blowing plot twist, this is your gem. But I advise you to go in without seeing any reviews, though.

Just when I think that K Webster couldn't pull on my heart strings anymore than she did with Whispers and the Roars - I go and read this one. Once again, I stress - if you want to read this, go in blind and with an open mind. Don't let reviews influence you. There are triggers - physical and mental abuse that the heroine went thru at the hands of her mother at the beginning, so fair warning to those with sensitivities towards those areas.
I was sucked in from the very beginning, as always with every book I have read by K, hurt and quietly rooting for Sydney because of the hell she went thru for over half of her life. Webster with her writing super powers sucked me in even further when Liam was introduced (along with a couple of other characters). I refuse to drop spoilers, so I won't go into detail but the plot twists caught me and made my jaw drop...even when I suspected a couple of things. I loved this story, I really did - the characters and their growth, the story line and the twists, and Sydney's much deserved happily ever after that had me smiling and internally cheering for her. I am definitely happy I have added this gem of a story to my kindle and will be re-visiting it in the future.

I received this audio book in exchange for an honest review.

The first part of the book is quite harrowing, Sydney is abused by her mother, she takes on a lot of different personas the worst being "Nurse Mama"

Sydney finally gets shot of her mother and moves into apartment 2B, she still has issues, one of these being that she doesn't like to be touched, at all.

I enjoyed the book, however the narration didn't pull me in to much.
The characters all sounded the same and sometimes I struggled to distinguish the difference, especially when there was 2 men talking.

Apart from that I enjoyed the book and was glad to read it.

Wow....I don't even know how many emotions I felt with this book. At first I hated it because it was too dark and annoying. It went back and forth all the time with the emotions Liam and Sydney had and I didn't like it but I stuck with it because it had something that called to me to read further so I did.

I loved it. It had a little of everything and after Lane showed up it was an amazing book. It went a little fast but it had a great story. This is the first book I read from this author and I loved it. Totally recommend reading this book. You will be blown away....

I’m DNF’ing at about 40% through and giving it 2 stars
This books already starts off so sad. The prologue shows how Sidney's (the main character) mother has been abusing her, and at this point Sidney is 15 years old. I truly feel her. The abuse from her mother started when the FMC father left them, and she started taking it out on the FMC. It started off as beatings and got way worse not too long after. The FMC mom even took her out of school and moved her into homeschooling. When I saw that, my heart just dropped

Jump to a few years later, the MC is 21 and still living with her mother. In the first chapter the mother dies of a heart attack, and it is time for the main character to start living her life……aaaaaaannnd this is where the author lost me

Seriously what is going on. The love interest is so weird. This man is a CREEP. He just walking up into her house without letting her know and scaring her and shit.

“My heart races in my chest as I come to the realization that someone has been in my apartment. I fumble in the dark until I locate the light switch for my room. My entire body freezes as I sense someone enter the room. The floor creaks and I shrink away from the sound. My need to see who is in my home takes over and I lunge forward, flipping on the switch. Ragged breath escapes me in both shock and relief when I see Liam standing there, his arms crossed. His lips turn up into a boyish grin as his eyes peruse my naked body. "
Like wtf you just walked into my apartment? Unannounced?

And then it gets even worse
“After I’ve gotten rid of the itchy feeling, I turn off the water and dry off. Hanging the towel back on the hook, I exit the bathroom. When I see Liam there, his arms folded in his signature stance, I for a split second have the urge to throw myself into his arms, but the moment quickly passes. “Fuck, Sidney! Do you just walk around everywhere naked? You do laundry with no bra on? That fucker could have come in here because you left your damn door unlocked! What’s wrong with you?” he demands angrily.”
Like here you are again in her apartment? Uninvited! And then you got the nerve to shame her for being naked in her bedroom in HER home which you have no right to be in

And lastly, the dialogue is so WEIRD lol. It’s like all the characters are just so nonchalant about everything and the dialogue just feels so scripted. It just doesn’t flow well, and it feels like I'm reading something a middle schooler wrote. Maybe this is the way the author intended it to be, maybe not, but I don’t like it

“Tina, oh my God, I am freaking out right now. While I was doing laundry this morning, some weirdo from the building practically molested me with his eyes. I was about to have a full-on panic attack when Liam came to my rescue. Then, I was taking a shower to rid myself of the filth I felt from that man staring at me and I nearly run into Liam afterwards IN MY APARTMENT. I go off on him and get dressed, but then we have a moment in the closet. When I started to get all itchy, he blew on me and it went away."

......like what?🤣She said that shit so casually I had to laugh.
I feel like the author had a good idea but just didn't execute it well enough for me, which I HATE HATE HAAAAATTTEEE because I was looking forward to reading this😞

Review by Faith Dotson

What an intriguing read. Kept me guessing and on the edge of my favorite reading spot.

Sydney lives with her mother who is a wee bit psycho and abusive. But with all that physical and emotion pain, she finds breathing room when her mother finally kicks the bucket and Sydney can finally start living her own life. She has no social skills or job skills because her mom home schooled her and kept her secluded. Luckily she lands herself a basic job keeping an eye on an elderly lady and with this job; a free apartment.

"You don't need me, Sid. You'e grown so strong since I'e known you. Your past doesn't have to always define you. I see a bright, happy future for you," he whispers sadly as he rolls over on his side to look at me.

Things were finally looking up for Sydney especially when she meets Liam who lives in the apartment next to her. They become instant friends and Sydney finds herself falling in love with sweet, sweet Liam. Liam finds himself always wanting to be around Sidney, but he never touches her. Mainly because Sidney hates to be touched because she feels "contaminated" thanks to her abusive mom. She and Liam find ways to be intimate without touching. He has broken through her walls more than anyone else has so when she finds out that Liam has to leave in a hurry, her heart is crushed.

"You're so damn beautiful, Sidney." The way he watches me makes me want to believe those words. Nobody has ever told me that I'm beautiful. My heart flutters wildly. And then reality sets in. I've seen myself naked, and now, so has he. My body is marred with the scars of my past. I'm ugly and damaged.

Then the intriguing part starts! ¦She heard noises coming from Liam's apartment and went rushing over there to start yelling at Liam. but it's not Liam she finds. It's Liam's twin brother Lane.

Enter electrically charged hotness!

Sliding my arm that isn't pinned under her up her body, I watch with interest as she shivers. My hand finds her cheek and I tentatively stroke it with my thumb. Her icy-blue eyes close and her lips part. Dipping my head down to hers, I softly kiss her lips. When her tongue shyly slips out to meet mine, we both gasp at the jolt of electricity that courses through us when we touch.

Lane gets sucked into falling for Sidney just like his brother did. For some reason, Lane is able to touch Sidney and boy does Sidney love the way that Lane touches! They both are falling for each other but then Lane starts telling her that she is crazy and that she needs help because she keeps talking about his brother and he can't seem to understand it. With her history I'm pretty sure I would have felt the same way about it.

Things that happen in this read really gave me the goose bumps. Every emotion ran wild and that pull that sucks you in starts right from the beginning when she's with the psycho mom. It was sad, dark, deep and so freaking awesome. The way that Sidney fights to live a normal life just amazes me. The only spoiler is that Sidney learns how to fight for love and learns that she deserves to be loved the right way.

Fix it, Pain. She's worth it.

WOW, can I just say that I haven't read a novel that has emotionally touched me like this one has. It literally had me in tears and it just felt so real, everything that was happening to poor Sidney, it was just devastating. Can I say that I devoured this book in a few hours. I even stayed up after hours to finish it because it was so damn good. I'm going to pay the price in getting up early but it was well worth it :)

Sidney has lived a horrible life. Her father left her mother when she was only 10 years old and her mother fell into a depression and would beat Sidney whenever she got angry. Sidney was tormented and lived in fear of her mother for 11 years. When her mother had a heart attack and died, Sidney was sad but relieved at the same time. She hated her mother for what she put her through. She has never had a normal life and she craves that, but doesn't know if she can with her being so damaged and afraid. She gets really clingy too once she gets to know someone, she doesn't want to let go.

Sidney has to move on and she finds a job taking care of an old lady and in return she gets free housing. She moves to Apartment 2B and I get the creeps and the chills for what she goes through living in this apartment. But you won't figure that out right away, that will come later in the story as to why it gives you the chills.

Sidney meets Liam, her neighbor. He seems to be quite a loner just like her and he seems to always want to be around her. The weird thing is that he never touches her or tries to touch her. Sidney can't have anyone touch her because she feels like she gets contaminated or something and always runs to take a shower. Liam understands how she feels and has been a perfect gentleman with her. One day she finds out that he's leaving her and she is devastated and can't understand why he leaves.

After a few days, Liam's twin brother Lane shows up and somehow he gets suckered into falling for Sidney as well. For some reason she couldn't fanthom Liam touching her, yet she freely let's Lane touch her and she becomes intimate with him. She grow close but he starts telling her that she's crazy and needs help and he hurts her feelings for saying that. Can Sidney move on and forget her past, can she forget Liam and love Lane as much as she loved Liam?

The things that happen in this book really gave me the chills. You feel all kinds of emotions when reading this book and it will sucker you in from the beginning. It had me sad and emotional but in the end I was overjoyed for them. Everything worked out for all of them.

K. Webster amazes me every time with her books. I love them all and this is one book you don't want to miss out on reading. I loved it and I know you will too! I'm looking forward to the next read!!

I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

4.5-5+ STARS!
K Webster’s books are always ones I look forward reading and when I heard about this book (a loooong time ago) I was hanging for it. After reading her Breaking the Rules Series I thought I had a fair idea of what to expect– sexy as hell alphas, amazing sex scenes, loveable heroines– but after finishing Apartment 2B, I had the shock of my life. This book was completely different, in such a wonderful way. It brought all kinds of emotions out of me and took me on a journey that I learnt a lot from.

Sidney is one broken girl and she truly broke my heart. Her up bringing was not ideal. In fact, it was down right horrific and at some parts of the book I honestly didn’t think she would ever heal. Liam is her somewhat gorgeously ‘creepy’ neighbour who pops up out of nowhere not long after she moves into apartment 2B. I thought the characters were well developed and slowly you grew to learn more and more about both of them.

Apartment 2B was fast paced and real easy to follow. It never left me with questions although it had me guessing what was coming up next on more than one occasion.

I really don’t want to say anything about the story, the blurb gives you what I feel is enough to go into the story. Let me point out though, this book has a small paranormal element to it, but not in the ‘vampires and werewolf’ kind. I can’t really explain it without giving the story away but I just want you to know to be a little bit open minded about this. It’s still has all the elements of a wonderful romance in it, just with a twist. And I honestly loved it. It was different, caught me off guard and I think, fit the story perfectly.

K Webster writes a truly wonderful story filled with emotion, suspense and enough romance to make this one of those books you will really enjoy on a cold rainy day. So put the kids to bed, pour yourself a cup of hot cocoa and settle in and fall in love with all that is Liam & Sidney.
