When a patient of Dr. Shaw's turns up dead, and her young child missing without a trace, the dedicated doctor’s simple life begins to unravel around her. As seasoned detective Chris Greyson enters her world, the body count rises and more of Lorie’s patients become entangled with a killer who believes in a twisted sense of salvation. When her feelings for the detective begin to cross the line, it becomes increasingly difficult for Lorie to navigate the delicate balance between her professional ethics and desperate need to find the truth. There is a murder in town, and the victim’s baby is missing without a trace. The victim happens to be a patient of Dr. Delores "Lorie" Shaw, a psychiatrist in a small town. As detective Chris Greyson enters Dr. Lorie’s world, the number of murders begins to rise, and somehow, all of them connect back to the doc. As the two work together to solve the cases, their feelings for each other grow. But each step closer to the truth brings Lorie closer to Chris, closer to uncovering the mystery, and closer to breaking because a huge secret lies hidden beneath it all.
“Break” is Brenna Ferrell’s debut novel, and I must say it is a captivating and fast-paced murder mystery that kept me hooked from start to finish. Every single time I thought I had everything figured out, unexpected twists emerged and revealed an entirely new layer of truths. Overall, I found this first book in the Greyson series incredibly interesting, and I can’t wait to dive into the next ones.

I am not a fan of mystery and suspense books. I especially will not read books with graphic violence. In my early to mid-twenties, I read plenty of Victoria Holt books to get my fill of mystery and suspense.

With Break, I was intrigued from the first page. It became a page turner for me. I had several guesses as to who was the murderer. Then, all of a sudden, I felt that the author took the story in a totally different direction, I felt lost and the story was unbelievable after that.

Wow! I stayed up way too late finishing Break last night because I could not put it down! I am blown away by Brenna Farrell's debut novel! This book was so well written and the twists and turns just kept coming. I would highly recommend Break to anyone who loves psychological thrillers, mysteries, books dealing with mental illness healthcare, and just anyone who loves genuinely well written books and Greta character development.

The only downside of reading Break is that now I have to wait on tenterhooks until the next book in the Greyson series comes out 😂

This was an ambitious debut, with interesting characters and a non-sequential plot. Just when I’d thought the story was over, Brenna Ferrell gave her readers more to ponder. She definitely “stuck the landing” with a surprising ending.
Sometimes typos were distracting. Yet I’m hoping we see more from this author.
