Sky Stryker #8

Fatal Wound

Rate this book
He’s a living doll. A dead one too.

Over the past year, true crime writer Sky Stryker has spent too much time inside the NYPD—sometimes as a consultant, sometimes as a suspect. She’s helped them crack impossible cases, including the murder of her own cousin. But now, they want her to walk away from an active investigation.

Even though a killer is still out there.
Even though another body is just a matter of time.

Desperate for a distraction, Sky takes on a missing persons case—a high school boy who vanished without a trace. In a city like Manhattan, the odds of finding him alive are slim. And then he turns up dead. Suffocated. Dressed in a sailor outfit, his face painted like a doll.

The discovery is unsettling, but to Sky’s friend and surrogate mother, it’s devastating.

Former FBI agent Callie Baros has seen this before, and it’s like reliving a bad dream she thought she’d woken from. She sent the killer, dubbed the Doll Collector, to jail years ago. Has he escaped? Is it a copycat crime?

Or has the real Doll Collector been at large the whole time?

As Sky, Callie, and the team dig into the secrets lurking inside the victim’s school, the truth emerges—twisted, terrifying, and far deadlier than they imagined. Because this time, the nightmare isn’t just repeating.

It’s evolving.

Fatal Wound is the eighth book in the Sky Stryker series by best-selling author Mary Stone. Some wounds never heal. Some killers never stop.

Sky has formed a team of sorts that have been very successful at solving crimes and finding murderers. However, they have been admonished by the police to back off and even forced to sign a confidentiality agreement. That has them all upset because the police will not release the notice of death from their last case. And people want answers. It's especially difficult for Sky as a crime writer. However, as they move on to another case, they are all focused on finding who murdered a young man and dressed him as a doll. Retired Agent Baros is especially involved in this case as they already convicted someone for the same crimes that occurred over 6 years earlier. Is this a copycat? Is the real killer still out there? Was the wrong man convicted? The team finally figures it out. But the best part is that now the FBI is seeking their assistance on a case that they simply can't get a hold on. What's next? Read this book and see. Lots of turns to follow.

Fatal Wound #8 book in the Sky Styker Series is by far the most intriguing book in the series. So many people are involved, so many crimes are committed. The usual PI or Spy team of Sky, Delia, Callie, Sami and Javier are all deep in the cases they work at. After having to sign confidentiality agreements at the Police Department before their last investigation was finished, the team were all disappointed. But, never fear, with Sky working on her latest book, parents of a missing young man, feeling the police blew them off and they came to Sami's Private Investigator office and the research is started by the team and a new case has started. With the horrible death of the young man the case is off to a rolling start.
You will love the new Mary Stone book, Fatal Wound #8 of the Sky Stryker Series. I did and can't wait for the next book.

Sky and her friends have been forbidden to reveal anything from their prior case which is hard when they keep getting questions from friends/family of the victim. While Sky is trying to complete edits on her latest book, Sky and her friends are asked to look into a young man's disappearance, only for his body to be found the next day, dressed in a sailor's outfit and face painted like a doll. Callie is very disturbed by this case because 6 years earlier she had helped put away a man who was dubbed the Doll Collector and his victims were also dressed up and painted like dolls. They continue the investigation, and they realize the findings are more twisted than they could have imagined. They discover who the murderer is and because of their help, now the FBI wants their help on a case!

Sky Stryker and her sleuthing friends are taxed with a complex case. The Doll Collector murders have started up again even though the killer is behind bars. Did retired Special Agent, Callie Baros, arrest the wrong man for the murders years before? Who is recreating the Doll murders now, a copycat or the real killer? Mary Stone and Bella Cross have written an intriguing and creepy mystery that will keep you turning pages quickly.
AND…crazed Ashley Duncan is in the picture still. She failed to capture and turn over Sky to her boss once. Now she is ordered to do this successfully or else!!!

Author Skye Stryker is not only a great true crime author but now has joined her friend’s PI business & is turning into a great private investigator herself. A high school student has gone missing & the investigation is on; however, when he turns up murdered & in a bizarre way, the team is out to discover the murderer. Similar to a past case, is this a copycat or was the wrong person convicted. A page turner you won’t want to miss.

Sky and her group of friends decide to take some time off to relax after their last stressful case, but relaxing doesn’t come easy. A couple comes into the office wanting to hire them to locate their missing son. Seems he just vanished after school one day. When that teen is found dead and dressed in a very bizarre outfit Sky and her friends feel they must help.
This leads them on a trail that is twisted and full of dead ends. It’s a story you can’t put down.

Fatal Wound

Fatal Wound is a great book. It gripped me from the first page and did not turn me loose. The Doll Collector is a scary individual who kills young teen boys and turns them into dolls. Callie thought she put him in prison 6 years ago when she was an FBI agent. Now she isn’t so sure as she, Sky and the rest of the crew look into the case after a teen boy is murdered and turned into a doll. Gripping story.

Coming off a killer case, the team is tasked with finding who killed their teen son, leaving him in the park dressed like a sailor doll. Callie is having second thoughts on this killing as she swore she had put away “The Doll Collector” eight years ago. Now the team is on the search for the killer all the while being stalked by someone even more ruthless. Surprise ending

good book

Another crazy, page turner! Sky & her friends/group get hired to find a teenaged boy gone missing. He turns up dead dressed like a sailor doll. It reminds Callie of one of her last cases before retiring from the FBI.

Mistreated Child

I found the story interesting as it showed how a child who is not properly taken care of can become a killer thinking he is finally doing what his mother wanted from him.

Strange ending

When I got to the end of the story I thought it would lead to the beginning of another one, though the way it finished I know it's going to be different and I will have to read the next one.

flashback homicide

A missing person assignment turns horrific straightaway; Javier has personnel qualms; Callie has misgivings about an old case.

Sad, frustrating yet hopeful.

Pretty good

This series is my least favorite. The characters aren't believable and they have little depth. I read it because I like Mary Stone.

Fatal Wound

I think the idea of a PI having a group of friends forming a think tank, gathering clues and helping the police make an arrest is great and shows a lot of imagination.
