The British Are Coming #3

To Capture a Mountain Man

Rate this book
She came seeking adventure. He never expected her to find him.

Lady Amanda Whitcombe dreamed of the untamed beauty of the American West from the moment Buffalo Bill’s Wild West dazzled her during the Queen’s Jubilee. But nothing could prepare her for the rugged wilderness of Yellowstone—or the man who would change her life forever.

When Amanda is swept into the icy currents of a park river, game scout Isaiah Coltrane rescues her. Used to solitude and determined to avoid entanglements—especially with a woman as refined as Amanda—he’s eager to return her to civilization. Yet her courage and quick wit soon prove there’s more to her than the polished exterior of an English lady.

Bound by circumstance and danger, Amanda and Isaiah must navigate the perils of poachers, rustlers, and a growing affection he is not ready to admit. Isaiah believes Amanda belongs in the world of fine society, not the remote mountains he calls home. But Amanda’s heart has already chosen him—and she’s willing to fight for the man who believes he’s unworthy of her love.

A romance of courage, love, and an unbreakable bond forged in the wild.

To Capture a Mountain Man is the third of the series, The British Are Coming, set in Idaho in 1895. It is the sweet story of two people from opposite stations in life who met in the wilds of Yellowstone National Park and as they become acquainted fall in love. How can a British lady and a tracker for the national park have a life together? The setting is one of beauty of the Wild West, as well as dangers there, and we see characters from the prior books and meet some new ones, including a very brave and smart dog, Bandit. Lovely story.
I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. These are my thoughts.

Ever since Lady Amanda Whitcombe saw Buffalo Bill and his Wild West show perform for the queen, she has been fascinated with the American West. When her brother accepts an invitation to visit a friend in Idaho, Amanda joins him.

Isaiah Coltrane has been a game scout for the past three summers, hunting poachers in Yellowstone National Park. He spends his winters in a remote mountain cabin in Montana.

While touring Yellowstone, Amanda wanders away from the group and is thrown into a river when her horse is startled by a gunshot. Isaiah is nearby and hears her screams. After rescuing her, he agrees to see her back to the ranch where she is staying.

To Capture A Mountain Man is the third book in The British Are Coming series by Robin Lee Hatcher. I loved Amanda and Isaiah and how they grew in faith and love for each other. The setting for this historical romance was beautiful, and the epilogue was a fun surprise. I am looking forward to Roger's story.

I received a free copy of this book. I volunteered to read it and write a review.

Finding where you belong.

Amanda is feisty, headstrong, and determined, but compassionate, kind, and seeking to belong. Born into British aristocracy, she is tired of it and wants freedom to make her own way. Isaiah is simple, quiet, and content with his life as a mountain man in Montana until Amanda splashes into it. They are so different but so good together. Against the odds, their lives can become one.

I enjoyed this new addition to the series. It was a fairly quick read as the writing style flows so well. The romance is so gentle and tender, both caring more for the other. There is adventure, danger, family, friends, heartache, sadness, and a final discovery of knowing right where you belong.

I would definitely re-visit this story and eagerly await the next installment. I received a complimentary copy and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.

“Spoiled you, did he?” “Perhaps a little.” Her smile was more heartfelt now. “I don’t blame him. I’d probably spoil you too.”

What a fantastic book! I loved the beautiful setting, amazing characters, delightful adventure, and the splash of danger. Ms. Hatcher’s descriptions of the ranch, the Tetons, and Yellowstone made me wish I could step out on my porch and see them all. I absolutely love how seamlessly scripture verses and faith elements are woven into the story.
Amanda is such a determined and adventurous woman. She is just trying to find her place and the happiness that it will bring her. Isaiah is the perfect protector and gentleman for her. I enjoyed seeing how he just stepped in and did what needed doing. And how fun that we get little check-ins with Amanda’s brothers and their wives through the letters exchanged. I’m excited for Roger’s story later this year.

Favorite lines:
“A man could drown in those eyes. At least, he could. And a man would do just about anything to earn one of her smiles. At least, he would.”

“I want a man who stands on a mountain trail on a foggy Sunday morning and quotes Scripture in praise to God.”

“He may have rescued her, but she’d captured him. And he would be forever thankful that she had.”

To Capture a Mountain Man: The British Are Coming Book 3 by Robin Lee Hatcher is a delight to read! To Capture a Mountain Man is the third book in Ms. Hatcher’s The British Are Coming series. Trekking through Yellowstone National Park in the 1890s to track poachers, Mountain Man Isaiah, comes across a woman drowning in the river. Isaiah rescues no one other than Lady Amanda from British Aristocracy. Amanda was traveling with a tour group through Yellowstone when she got separated from the group and her horse got spooked by a poacher’s gunshot. After Isaiah rescues Amanda, Amanda hires Isaiah to help her return back to her Friend’s Ranch, Eden’s Gate, in Idaho. When Isaiah and Amanda arrive at the ranch, Isaiah gets hired on to track thieves who are stealing cattle from Eden’s Gate. The longer Isaiah is at the Ranch, the closer Amanda and Isaiah become, despite coming from two totally different worlds.

Over the years Robin Lee Hatcher’s books have become a safe place and sweet escape when I needed it most and To Capture a Mountain Man did just that for me! I love walking and riding the picturesque trails of Yellowstone National Park and Eden’s Gate along with Amanda and Isaiah! Ms. Hatcher is such a vivid story teller that she writes the nature and scenery scenes in such a way, that, as a reader, you feel as though you are there hearing the rushing water and the animals. (With scenes written like that, I can totally understand why Isaiah would give Praise to God for His Creation as his Adoration for his Creator overflowed in Appreciation.) I love meeting Amanda and Isaiah and thought they were well suited for each other. I love the spunk that Amanda had and how she stood her ground on things that were important to her. I love that Amanda wasn’t afraid to do normal, everyday tasks–such as doing dishes–despite her being born into British Aristocracy. I love the gentleman that Isaiah is in the book and marveled at what he knew about nature and his tracking abilities. I love the way Amanda and Isaiah’s relationship progressed in the book and was slightly shocked as to how fast it did move. Despite how fast it moved, Amanda and Isaiah still honored God and put Him at the forefront of all that they did. This is the first book I have read from Ms. Hatcher’s The British Are Coming series. Despite it being the first book I have read from the series, I did not feel lost while reading–it just made me want to read the other books in the series too. The lesson I took away from To Capture a Mountain Man: The British Are Coming Book 3 is that it truly does take guts and a willing heart to do what God has called us to do, especially if we are the only ones that believe the task set before us is what God wants us to do. If you are looking for a sweet, spunky escape with Godly values, then I highly recommend To Capture a Mountain Man: The British Are Coming Book 3 by Robin Lee Hatcher! I’m looking forward to seeing where Ms. Hatcher takes The British Are Coming series next!

To Capture a Mountain Man is the third title in beloved author Robin Lee Hatcher's The British are Coming historical fiction series. Right from the opening words this lovely story captivated my attention, and I've been looking forward to reading Amanda's story ever since her character was first introduced in a previous novel.

Readers follow along as Amanda has been left in the care of her brother's friends, while he has traveled back to England with his new bride to take on his new role as Earl of Hooke. Amanda's never quite fit into the picture everyone's expected of her in her position in high society, and she can't deny how drawn she feels to the rugged landscapes in the beautiful state of Wyoming. When an accident in her beloved Yellowstone Park derails her plans, Amanda finds herself in the company of rugged mountain man, Isaiah Coltrane. As the two travel together back to the ranch where Amanda is staying for her time in America, an unexpected friendship with the hint of something more starts to grow between the two. However, Isaiah feels he could never measure up to what Amanda is worthy of, and how could the two of them ever move past society's expectations.

Robin Lee Hatcher has penned another wonderful historical tale that highlights the beauty of the state of Wyoming, and the notion that nothing is impossible when we choose to trust our Heavenly Father with our futures. While this wonderful story can easily be read as a stand alone, you'd definitely be missing out by not first reading the first two stories which are every bit as amazing as this one was.

A forbidden romance, a faith based plot, and the keep you glued to the story writing I've come to expect from this author all made this one a win win in my eyes, and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the mood for a Christian historical fiction title.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much to Robin Lee Hatcher for allowing me to advance read and review this title!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this novel from the author as part of her review team. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.

Book 3 in The British Are Coming Series, To Capture a Mountain Man, captured my attention and my heart from the very first pages. I have long wondered through Books 1 & 2 in this series who would capture the untamed beauty in Lady Amanda Whitcombe's spirit and prove worthy of her love. Just as Amanda longed to experience the thrill and wonder of The American West and unravel Yellowstone's Beauty for herself against the backdrop of English royalty and expectations long in place by her titled birthright, her spunkiness, grit and determination paved the way for her to immerse herself in a culture she had only held in her dreams. Isaiah proved just how deserving and noble and perfectly suited for Amanda he was time after time despite trying to convince himself otherwise. I was drawn to Bandit and the bond he shared with his owner and how instrumental he was to his livelihood! Everyone deserves to have such a companion. This book wasn't just a charming, feel good read, but a shockingly gripping page turner that tracked down rustlers, poachers, fought wildlife and nature, and confronted danger on more than one occasion. I read this book in one sitting! I didn't want to put it down. Hatcher delicately wove a tale showing readers love is more than aristocracy, more than titles, more than entitlements, more than privilege, sometimes more than we ever dare to dream and finds us when we least expect it. My favorite quote from the book, "He may have rescued her, but she'd captured him. And he would be forever thankful she had." demonstrates a love and bond that crossed oceans and proved worthy of a hero deserving of Amanda's love. I received an Advanced Reader's Copy and the opinions held in this review are my own.

This is a delightful, enchanting and intriguing story. I fell in love with both characters immediately. We have met Lady Amanda previously in Sebastion's book, but it was fantastic to read her story. This woman has pluck! Even though she is an entitled lady from England, she doesn't act like it to those around her in America. She is just in Idaho on holiday and then plans to return to England but wants to experience everything in the American West since she saw the Buffalo Bill Wild West show in England. She jumps at the chance to explore Yellowstone National Park but ends up falling in a river and being rescued by Isaiah Coltrane, a game scout for the National Park. The two couldn't be more different! However, as they forge a friendship when Amanda hires Isaiah to take her back to Idaho, both feels the beginnings of attraction.
There is a lot of action in the story also - cattle rustling, injuries, kidnapping, etc.! The ranch where Amanda is staying has friends who are looking out for her and they initially frown on her "infatuation" with Isaiah, but I liked how she knew her own mind and stuck to her guns! She was no wilting flower! I really liked Isaiah's character also. He was always trying to do the right thing, especially being honest and treat people fairly. His dog was a delight also! A wonderful story of the American West and those who lived there!

Robin Hatcher- To Capture A Mountain Man

Have you ever visited Yellowstone National Park?  Or the Tetons.  I have. It is unforgettable. The views are spectacular . Words can not describe how you feel when you get a glimpse of the wildlife: the excitement the first time you can see and feel the buffalo walk by just inches from your car. The sights and sounds are overwhelming. So I totally get why Amanda wanted a chance to explore. This was her only opportunity.

But she never expected what would happen when she left the tour group behind.  Isaiah didn't hesitate to come to her aid.

Amanda was a Lady born and bred. She knew what was expected of her. She was to be married to a man of not her choosing.  She didn't want to be controlled.  That's not the life she wanted.

The romance of Amanda and Isaiah couldn't be avoided. There was attraction from the start. But was there any chance that he could leave his home and go to England with her?  Could she give up all that she knows to live in the Wilderness of Montana?

This novella is part of a series called The British are Coming.  I have had the chance to read the prior books.  I enjoyed the story and the spectacular location the book was based in.  I know you would too.

Lady Amanda Whitcomb is visiting her brother's friend in Idaho. Her brother has returned to England with his new bride. Amanda talked him into letting her stay for the entire year that they had planned. Amanda is with a touring group in Yellowstone when she is separated from them. A group of poachers fire a warning shot when she gets too close and she falls into a river. Isaiah is a game warden and is tracking the poachers. He rescues her. She asks him to take her back to the ranch in ID and he agrees. Amanda is very outspoken and a hard worker. She isn't the hot house flower that everyone expects her to be. She loves Isaiah, but he isn't wealthy or have any status.

I love how Amanda and her siblings may have been raised with wealth and status, but they don't look down on others. They see others as friends regardless of status. Sweet book!

A Montana scout and tracker falls in love with a lady from England.

Loved being back with this author again. Amanda and Isaiah story was exciting from the start. There were many times after that that he came to her rescue. This caused Amanda to fall in love with him even more. He became a help to William at Eden gate until he was layed up after rescuing Amanda. William and Roger tried to stop her from loving him because they felt Isaiah wasn't good enough for her. But she didn't let that stop her. Isaiah also tried but failed. A sticky situation caused Isaiah to propose to Amanda and marry her the same day. He almost lost her when a bad man took her away. But Isaiah came to her rescue and there love for each other was given. Looking forward to Roger story. Hope William gets to have a story too. Maybe will get to see Sebastian and Jocelyn back for a trip too.

This is the third book in Hatcher’s The British Are Coming series. The Earl of Hooke has gone back to Britain with his bride, reluctantly leaving his younger sister Amanda behind to finish out her year in America. It helps to have read the first two books in order to understand most of the characters in this one and their relationships with each other.

I really enjoyed the book. There are plenty of heart-stopping plot twists, various characters needing rescue more than once, cattle rustlers, a keen-eyed mountain guide/scout, beautiful scenery, and romance.

I’m glad one more book is coming in this series, because I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters!

A wonderful book of adventure and romance awaits the reader of this book. Lady Amanda Whitcombe has come to America hoping to experience some of the wild west she glimpsed when her father took her to see Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show back in England. When she finds herself alone in an icy river expecting to be swept away by the current, she finds herself being rescued by game scout Isaiah Coltrane. It is safe to say that Isaiah never expected the spunky English Lady. He thought she was like a fragile flower but she proved to be courageous and adventurous. When she pleads for him to return her to her friends, he can only agree to accompany her. The reader will not be disappointed in this wonderful tale. I highly recommend the book.

In addition to the great story, I enjoyed the sketches at the beginning of each chapter as a unique feature to this book.
I have not read the other books in this series, but feel it is a great stand-alone story that can be enjoyed with just enough reference to the other books in the series, but not overwhelming.

I'm curious about the publisher: robinsong and wondering if the author is behind that name? If so, I will be looking for more books published by this company.

I thought the drawing of Yellowstone Falls on the cover was beautiful, but the white shirt of Isaiah on the front cover was a little off......who wears white in the wilderness? (let along it being so clean!!). Please take this last comment with the humor and truth intended!

What an amazing story of God’s timing. This is an incredible story of the untamed beauty of the American West as it was being settled by determined people. Robins writing draws you into Amanda and Isaiah’s story from the very first page with gripping action and at the same time fleshing out the breathtaking mountains and surrounding area. My favorite part was Isaiah quoting scripture as he reveled in God’s creation of the majesty of his surroundings. This love story will linger in your mind long after the last page is read.

This may be my favorite book yet in The British Are Coming series! It can totally be read as a stand alone, but why would you want to miss out on the first two books?! This story has action, suspense, romance, and faith - all with the beautiful backdrop of the Wild West. She's an English lady; he's a rugged mountain man. It's a sweet story of opposites attract. Can they overcome their differences, the distance in their geographical homelands, and their perceived roles in society to be together?

Robin Lee Hatcher continues her series of British lords and ladies who visit the west during the early days of Yellowstone National Park and fall in love! You will be charmed by independent Lady Amanda Whitcombe who falls in love with the rugged but beautiful land and then is rescued from a cold river in Yellowstone by tracker Isaiah Coltrane. I loved this sweet story of opposites attraction and how Amanda wins. I received a complimentary e-book of To Capture a Mountain Man and recommend it to others. This is my honest opinion.

A step back in time…

I am so enjoying these adventures back to a simpler tie, yet in many ways, also so much more complex. Isaiah’s adventures and his faith are challenging as I consider my own walk of faith. Do I remember that my Lord and Savior, Jesus, walks with me at all times, through all my days and seemingly complex ordeals? He does. He loves me! He carries me when the walking gets difficult! Amanda also has her challenges and her faith is strong. Guide me, Lord. Lead me!

I couldn’t put down Robin Lee Hatcher’s newest book, To Capture a Mountain Man. What a delightful read! I fell in love with rugged western mountain man Isaiah Coltrane and spunky English tourist, Lady Amanda Whitcombe. The spectacular scenery of Yellowstone National Park and Eastern Idaho came to life as their adventures and mishaps kept me turning the pages and rooting for them to overcome the impossible circumstances that divided them.

Setting: Yellowstone National Park and also a ranch in Idaho with a view of the Tetons
First of all, I love the cover of this book! This is the third book in the "British Are Coming Series" and this has been my favorite so far. There were some twists and turns that I did not expect, which really kept my interest. I was very vested in the main characters, Amanda and Isaiah. I will definitely read the next book in the series which will be Roger's story.

Excellent

This is a continuation of the story of the British who have come to visit Yellowstone. This time it is the story of the sister who loves the west. She falls in a river while being accosted by poachers after she has left her guides. She is rescued by Isiah, a scout for the government. The rest of the story is about those two.

To Capture a Mountain man

The Landy and a Mountain man meet! This book was so delightful and engaging. Since I've been to Montana I can visualize the beautiful scenery. The story of Amanda and her mountain man Isaiah was a good ending to the series. Although it's also stand alone. Tracking poachers and rescuing Amanda keeps Isaiah busy it's an interesting .

The romance in this story seemed too hurried. I wasn’t expecting the paths it took, and maybe that’s part of my disappointment with the book. The characters are likable and the story is solid. The paths the story took are believable for the personality of the characters. If you read this book, I suggest setting aside all expectations of what will happen before starting.

Basic.

A nice, sweet basic and kind of boring book. To me everything sort of skimmed the surface. You're a LADY, you get married without telling anyone and your surrogate brother is fine about it? Yeah, I don't think so. I'm a little surprised this book has such a high rating.

Sweet

This had just the right touch of learning about personalities and suspense to enliven it. Also containing a smart woman in Amanda and an Alpha but very kind man inher husband. Throw in villains and move them around . My only complaint just a bit too short.
