A Tomb with a View

Rate this book
She sees dead people. He is dead people. And their canine companion has a few secrets of her own. Together, they're Lockwood Cove's most dysfunctional detective trio!

Most roommates squabble over dirty dishes and unpaid bills. Anna McGuffin wishes that were her biggest problem. Instead, she spends her days trading barbs with Richard Lockwood, the infuriatingly handsome (and thoroughly dead) Victorian detective haunting her Florida rental, while their adorable ghost dachshund, Daisy, referees from the sidelines. All Anna wants is to finish her Regency romance novel, but her writing plans are derailed when local medium Madame Corrine acquires an antique locket harboring something far more sinister than sentimental memories.

Anna and Richard's mission to retrieve the locket hits a snag when a body is discovered sprawled against Richard's grave, with the locket nowhere to be found. As mysterious disturbances ripple through Lockwood Cove and a paranormal investigative TV crew stirs up trouble, Anna finds her feelings for her grumpy roommate growing more complicated by the day.

With the walls between life and death thinning, Anna and Richard must solve the murder and recover the locket before the vengeful spirit trapped inside breaks free--and transforms their quaint town into a supernatural battleground.

Maggie March sucked me right into Lockwood Cove with the first book and I’ve been hooked on this crime solving trio ever since! Anna, Richard and Daisy continue their investigations in book 3 and we learn more about this small town and the secrets it holds, leaving you impatiently waiting for the next one!

This book captured my attention from the very beginning and didn't let go until the final sentence. There is plenty of intrigue to keep you guessing all the way through. I thought I had it solved multiple times over but was wrong each time. There are also quite a few giggles along the way and a little hint of romance albeit with a ghost. I can always tell how much I enjoyed a book when I finish it, look up and for just a minute wonder where my friends are and what world I am in before realizing I had to leave them behind in the book. That's the way I felt when I finished this one just now.

Three days ago, during the Founders Day Dance, local medium Madame Corinne attempted to summon Richard Lockwood's ghost using what she believed was a locket that had once belonged to him. In reality, that locket actually belonged to Alistair Hawthorne, a Victorian serial killer that Richard had brought to justice in England, but who then escaped to the United States, specifically Lockwood Cove. Realizing just how powerful Alistair's spirit is, Anna and Richard are set to get the locket back from Madame Corinne before she can air her seance on a national television ghost hunting show. Things take a turn for the worse when someone from the show turns up dead, and the spirit of Alistair continues to gain strength!

I always enjoy reading Maggie March's novels— they are funny and full of lighthearted suspense.

In this story: Anna, Richard, a ghostly 19th-century detective, and their spectral dog Daisy must stop the vengeful spirit of Victorian serial killer Alistair Hawthorn before he destroys their town, Lockwood Cove.

I love/hate that Anna is falling in love with Richard, but can they actually be together!?!?

What a fantastically fun ghost story, murder mystery! The cast of characters was charming, eccentric, excitable, enthusiastic & down right likable!
Meet Anna McGuffin, a romance novelist who happens to be able to see & hear dead people. She lives in Lockwood Manor, home to Victorian era Scotland Yard detective & resident ghost, Richard Lockwood & his precocious dog Daisy. He is the founder of Lockwood Cove, a very haunted little town in FL.
Strange things begin to happen when Madam Corrine does a seance with a locket said to belong to Richard. Now she has signed on to do a live seance with Ghost Trackers, a paranormal TV show. Murder, missing people, a cursed locket & the sinister ghost of Alastaire Hawthorne, a Victorian serial killer.
All of this makes a gripping story come to life! See if Anna, Richard & Daisy can solve this mystery & catch a killer before its too late! Oh & no one knows that she can see & talk to ghosts!

“A Tomb with a View” by Maggie March is the third installment in the thrilling ghost mystery novels of “The Grumpy Ghost” series, published by Chihuahua Publishing.

As someone who had never ventured into the world of ghost stories before, I was absolutely captivated by this book! From the very first page, I found myself unable to put it down, eagerly turning each chapter to uncover how the ghosts intertwined with the thrilling mystery. Despite this being my first encounter with the series—having not read the previous two installments—I found the storyline easy to follow. It stands strong as a standalone, but I’m definitely tempted to start from the beginning now!

What an exhilarating adventure! Whether you’re a die-hard ghost story fan or just curious, this book is a must-read that left me wanting more. I wholeheartedly recommend it—dive in and experience the chills and excitement for yourself!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Humorous, cozy murder mystery. Told in the first person by our heroine, romance author Anna McGuffin, as she navigates her current life, living in a haunted house with 2 ghosts that only she can see. These things run in her family as her cousin Lucy is a human lie detector. She shares her rental with ghost, Richard Lockwood, 19th century former Scotland Yard detective and the founder of Lockwood Cove. Also Daisy the dog. In this 3rd episode, she discovers a body near Richard's Tomb and his evil nemesis, Alistair Hawthorne, a serial killer from his past, is trying to escape from an old locket that his spirit has been trapped in. Fun characters and lively banter make this an entertaining book to read.

I was gifted an Advanced Reader's Copy as part of the author's review team. This is my unbiased, honest and voluntary review.

Loved it. Anna McGuffin is trying to write her book, but it’s getting hard with Richard Lockwood always looking over her shoulder. It’s funny too. When he comes in he demands her full attention. A seance must not take place by Madame Corrine. The locket she possesses can’t not be opened. If it is who knows what evil the ghost of Alistair Hawthorne will be unleashed. So Anna, Richard, and of course Daisy which was Richard’s wife’s dog also dead come up with a plan to get that locket. A show known as The Ghost Trackers come to town, and wants to televise things about Richard and Alistair.
It’s not right. A murder in the cemetery puts a stop to that.

That’s all I will say. However I couldn’t put it down. Ms. March really did awesome job with the entire series. I hope there’s many many more books to come.

A TOMB WITH A VIEW is the third book in The Grumpy Ghost series by Maggie March and was filled with ghosts and supernatural elements. A nice continuation of the series with Anna once again doing what she does best - being an amateur sleuth to figure out whodunnit,

Anna, along with her ghostly sidekicks, piece together clues and rule out suspects. She sometimes gets caught talking to them, but those around her have no idea what’s really going on. There are multiple stories being told and they add depth to the story as well as an otherworldliness. There’s a good flow to the story with quite a few twists and turns. There is closure with the reveal of whodunnit as Anna puts a strange spin on things that are happening especially in the cemetery.

A TOMB WITH A VIEW is a cozy paranormal mystery with lots of details and clues and held my interest throughout.

With the revelation at the conclusion of book two I was eager to read A Tomb with a View (The Grumpy Ghost Book 3). Maggie March has a special talent for capturing the reader’s attention from the beginning and holding on to it until the end. Anna McGuffin and Richard Lockwood may be compared to the Ghost and Mrs. Muir’s characters, but I find them so much more real (well, as real as a ghost can be), unique and a source of constant humor as well as amazement.

They are in top form in this mystery of a dead person and the TV crew that shows up. Not exactly what Anna or Richard want, or need is to have this paranormal investigative crew poking around. A fun escapism read that will have you sorting through clues, trying to solve this murder mystery along with Anna, Richard, and sweet sidekick the adorable ghost dachshund, Daisy, and smiling the entire time.

What a wickedly fun and humorous mystery! Romance writer Anna McGuffin thinks her new job title should be Lockwood Cove’s Supernatural Protector. Her interactions with the ghost of Richard Lockwood and her dachshund Daisy are spot-on and funny. The predicament this time is serious. Victorian serial killer Alistair Hawthorne is close to escaping the locket currently owned by Madame Corinne. A Ghost Trackers TV show is in town, and a new dead body shows up in the cemetery. Who knew this FL tourist destination could be so hauntingly dangerous? From the very beginning, this story moves effortlessly with witty dialogue, logical clues, plenty of suspects, and humorous banter. The storytelling is concise, excellent, and entertaining, providing a fun, escapist romp into the haunted town of Lockwood Cove. I can’t wait for the next trip!

What fun! Once again Anna, the ghost detector is embroiled in mystery, murder and rampant ghostly activity. I love this series with the banter between Richard, who has been dead for 130 years, and Anna who can communicate with him and all the other quirky characters in the small town of Lockwood Cove. Anna has a crush on Richard but how is that going to work. And there is a dog ghost, Daisy, who steals the show. In this book a sinister ghost from Richard's past makes the story suspenseful and taut and leads up to a rip-roaring, slambang finish that you have to read. A ghost-hunting TV crew upsets the town (literally) and a murderer lurks. More of Richard's past history is revealed and there is a hint of more excitement to come in the future. I can't wait!

I absolutely love this series. Anna is such a great character. She is now used to Richard Lockwood, her ghostly roommate and the little ghost dog, Daisy. At the end of the prior book, it was discovered that Richard’s dead nemesis is locked away in a locket away owned by a women who wants to do a séance to release the ghost of Richard Lockwood, who she thinks resides in the locket. The locket she owns, unfortunately, has an entity within if released can, and will, create havoc in Lockwood Cove. When a TV crew comes to the city to film the séance at the cemetery, all heck ensues. A must read. Can be read alone or after the other two in the series. I was given a copy of the book as an ARC reader.

Another cute read from Maggie March in the Lockwood Cove series. All books can be read on their own but the stories are interconnected. We are back with Anna who has moved to Lockwood Cove to become a romance novelist, but things…well ghosts keep getting in the way of her writing. She has a resident ghost, Richard, living in the house as well as an adorable ghost dog, Daisy. Anna has always been able to see ghosts and can converse with them although no one in the community knows this. Richard was a Scotland Yard detective in his real life, and one of his captures has returned to the earthly realm in a ghost form. The poor community of Lockwood Cove has no idea what will happen to their small town, but it is another wild ride and one I surely enjoyed.

Anna is a writer and she's rented a Victorian house. When she rented it, she didn't realize she was going to have roommates. Only they are dead and no one else can see or hear them. Richard and Daisy are ghosts. Daisy was a dog. Anna and Richard are becoming more than room mates. It's just unfortunate that he's dead.

A paranormal investigative TV crew stirs up trouble when they want to do a seance and they are coming to the wrong conclusion about the death of a man that Richard was scheduled to duel with.

This is a fun cozy mystery with ghostly characters. Light and fun - despite murders

You have Anna, one of the main characters, who is living in a house with Richard, a ghost who once worked for Scotland Yard. There's a locket with a really, really evil spirit in it that wants to break loose. To make things a whole lot worse there's going to be a television show in the town in which the locket is supposed to be opened by a woman who is not the nicest person in the world, to say the least.

If the locket is opened there's a whole lot of bad that's going to happen.

I like the way you have a living person adapting so incredibly well to a very intelligent ghost and how they can get along so well. It also helps that the ghost is really intelligent.

This was an amazing read! I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. From chapter one right through to the end, I was riveted. As with the first two books, there were lots of fun moments, but this time the mystery and paranormal shenanigans were off the chart. I seriously loved it. I adore Daisy, as well as Anna and Richard. And the bonus sneak peak at book four? Wow! Now, I'm wishing its publication wasn't just over a month away! (It's September 26, and October is usually my favourite month, but right now, I'm wishing it was November 6!) In case you haven't guessed, I wholeheartedly recommend this series! It's wonderful in so many ways.

If you are looking for light and easy reads, Maggie’s book are the best. This is the third installment with Anna and can be read as a stand alone since Maggie’s does a great job of “reminding “ you of the story line. I like to read in order so I suggest starting at the beginning. The characters are becoming more real to me in each book. And I am looking forward to seeing how the relationships develop. I love alternating between serious books and comfort reads. Maggie is definitely one of my favorite comfort authors!

Anna and Richard are at it again, this time trying to stop the seance that would bring his worst enemy back to destroy Lockwood Cove. They face multiple roadblocks but are such a great team, they are able to pull off the impossible. The characters are so funny and entertaining, with never a dull moment! I'm looking forward to the next book and hope there's a way for Richard to be alive again--he and Anna make such a great couple. Highly recommended.

A Really Good Story

In this book, Richard and Alastair face off again. Over 100 years have passed since they fought and Alastair was killed. In making his return, he and Richard are fighting in the town’s cemetery. Fences collapse, urns are thrown and…it’s all captured on camera by a ghost hunter team who got way more than they ever imagined. Read the book; it will entertain you!

I am loving this series. Anna and (ghostly) Richard, along with the adorable (ghostly) dog Daisy are quite the sleuthing combo. This book is funny and intriguing and will keep you turning all the pages to get answers. Lockwood Cove is such an entertaining venue for these cozy mysteries and the author brings such fun characters to the pages. Don't miss this one, it's great entertainment.
