One wedding meet-cute. Two inspired artists. Sparks are about to fly...

Brodie Bailey is best known as the lead singer and occasional writer for the popular indie band Quixotic but right now, Brodie doesn’t want to be known at all. While they've been living in Toronto for the past two years and trying to figure out some stuff, they've been struggling to feel the creative spark they rely on for their work.

But when they meet a painter at their close friends’ wedding, they start to realize that maybe that spark isn’t gone forever.

Taylor Evans is a painter specializing in wedding portraits and while she loves that part of her work, she’s ready to try something new. Enter the gorgeous musician she meets at a client’s wedding who generously agrees to let her paint them.

As Brodie and Taylor get closer, they start to realize that their feelings might just be growing into something more than just professional courtesy for a fellow artist. Song For You is a cozy queer romantic novella featuring a non-binary singer and a painter. While it is a standalone story, it features cameos and characters from Rochelle Wolf's previous novellas, Act Two and Room for Two.

Perfect for fans

* sapphic/queer romances

* low angst romance

* artist and musician romances

* Canadian/Toronto settings

* supportive friend group dynamics

Song For You is an adult romance novella that is short and sweet. With loveable characters, Rochelle Wolf's writing really shines through. Though this is a novella, the book is character driven, and the characterization leaves the reader feeling like they know the main characters well. I loved that despite the shorter length there wasn't insta-love. I found myself rooting for Brodie, in particular. They are such a loveable character, and I was practically kicking my feet at how adorable they are.

I recommend this book if you are a fan of novellas and you're looking for a low-angst, cozy romance to wrap yourself up in. Or if you're looking to read more romances with an NB main character. Song For You is feel good while still approaching topics than can be difficult (i.e. gender identity and coming out). This was the first book I've read by Rochelle Wolf, but I'd be interested to read more by them, especially if the books are "fluffy" like this one.

I'd like to thank Rochelle Wolf for providing me with an ARC of Song For You. I'm leaving this review voluntarily, and all opinions are my own.

More book details below, if you're into that.

4 stars. I loved this! So sweet and light and it left me smiling by the end. All of the characters are wonderful, but there was something about Brodie that just really drew me in. I thought they were so incredibly lovable. A bit awkward but warm. I loved Taylor as well, she’s very much sunshine and bubbly and I thought she and Brodie were wonderful together. This was just what I needed today, something adorable and comforting and I would definitely read this again.

Song for You by Rochelle Wolf is a romance novella between a wedding painter and a musician. This story explores Brodie's anxieties around coming out as nonbinary after being known as the lead singer of a popular boy band. After meeting Taylor at a friend's wedding, they find the courage to write new music and present their authentic self to the world.
The main characters are likable and endearing, and there are sweet scenes between them.
I like Brodie's bravery and the way they are supported by their found family.
A quick read with a happy ending; overall, it is a good story. I think I just wanted more.

I received a free copy from the author and this is my honest review.

Well paced short novella by new to me author! I’m so happy to have gone on this journey with Brodie. They are so sweet and seeing all the support they have around them, it’s beautiful. Taylor seems perfect for them and their relationship develops slowly and wonderfully. If it was a longer story, I very much would have liked to read those intimate and emotional scenes that helped their trust and confidence grow in each other, especially with Brodie.

Recommend! I’ll definitely be checking out this authors other stories!

ARC review: A Song For You by Rochelle Wolf.

This is an excellent read. It takes you to the early stages of a new relationship while the MC becomes comfortable is their/them skin.
The story shows a little of the struggle we all go through for self acceptance when we are a minority in the minority. Since this is a new author for me, I need to read previous works to get acquainted with other characters. Hopefully we will see more of the story for these two characters in a longer publication.

I'm honored to be an ARC reader for this novella!

What I loved
M. Wolf's strengths as a writer continue to shine brighter and brighter with each installment. This story in particular glimmers with captivating settings, where I can clearly imagine where the characters are and the unique charm it adds to their activities together. But as always I am more than satisfied with M. Wolf's flirting dialogue, rising romantic tension, and emotional engagement. This book is like a warm, leisurely bath of building chemistry between our two leads.

But my absolute favorite thing about this book is Brodie. I adore Brodie. I will protect Brodie at all costs. Brodie is the sweetest good sweetheart and I will do anything for them. I loved being in Brodie's perspective so much! The emotional honesty, the blushing, being confident in their career but melting at Taylor's praise... This is the first main character of M. Wolf's where I have finished the novella and wanted sequels just for this character.

(Taylor is a fantastic love interest, I adore her and would totally love to hang out, I'm just low-key crushing on Brodie.)

What I Would Have Liked
I'm still getting used to reading novellas, so this might just be me, but there were multiple scenes that I wished were expanded on. For example, multiple conversations between the two leads that were summarized for the reader rather than us reading them in real time. I worry that M. Wolf thinks we won't find these conversations interesting, and would love to see their confidence in fleshing out these interactions more. It would really turbo-boost the slow chemistry and tension building that I love in their writing (in my humble opinion).

And (mild spoiler?) I was so disappointed I didn't get to read the lyrics to Brodie's new song!! I thought that would have been a beautiful way to demonstrate all the growth they are describing through the songwriting process, or a powerful climax. Again, I know not every storyteller is a songwriter, but I wish I could give M. Wolf a cheerleader to encourage them to explore this more.

In Summary
Like each novella before, this story is a "sweet treat," perfect for the reader whose favorite part of love stories is when you kick your feet and squeal and giggle. If you're looking for cute, satisfying, fluffy, lovey, all the sweet stuff, pure dessert - Rochelle Wolf is your author and this is totally worth adding to your collection. I'm officially putting myself in charge of the Rochelle Wolf lit fan club.

“…it’s not impossible to be yourself around the people who love you.”

“Song for You” by Rochelle Wolfe was such a short and sweet, queer novella! I am thankful to have been given the opportunity to read it and write this honest review.

We follow the point of view of Brodie, lead singer of a popular band, who has lost their creative spark and is trying to regain it, all while trying to find themself along the way. Attending their close friends’ wedding, they meet the talented artist, Taylor, a painter who specializes in wedding portraits, but wants to expand her repertoire. When the two meet at the wedding, there are instant sparks between them and they both wind up inspiring each other. Brodie feels like they’re getting their spark back and begins to work on a new song, and Taylor decides she wants to paint a portrait of Brodie. As the two begin to build a relationship around being artists, their feelings for each other begin to grow into something more than just mutual artists helping each other.

Rochelle did a very good job of creating the main character, Brodie, and their struggle of showing their loved ones, and the world, who they really are. Not only do we get an adorable meet-cute story, we also get a coming out story, as Brodie gains confidence to be their true, authentic self by the end of the novella.

This story is a very cozy and lighthearted romance. It has a few moments of humor mixed in, and will leave you with a smile on your face at the end.

“It’s strange, being watched in this way and I realize this must be how every bowl of fruit that has ever been painted must feel.”

If you enjoy cute and cozy, low angst, queer romances, meet-cutes, supportive friends, and stories about learning to feel comfortable being yourself around others, then you will surely enjoy reading “Song for You”!

In this novella we follow Brodie and Taylor.

Brodie is a singer, they are in a band that took a bit of a break when Brodie needed time to figure out their personal feelings about themselves. Brodie was struggling with deciding how to identify and needed time and quiet. So they moved and are working in a coffee shop/book store. (The book store from Room For Two where Bea works)

Taylor is an artist and meets Brodie while doing a painting at a wedding that Brodie was attending and singing at. She is spunky and laid back. She's very much a go with the flow person. Which happens to work well with Brodie and their anxieties.

After the wedding they run into each other again and Taylor asks Brodie if she can paint them. As they spend more time together their initial attraction grows.

I found their story sweet and a fantastic portrayal of how finding the right people to be around making all the difference. Taylor was 100% accepting of whatever Brodie was comfortable with and didn't question it at all. She was just what they needed.

I am really enjoying this series of novellas and will continue to give them a try as the author puts them out.

CW: mention of misgendering

This is a cozy and warm novella to read with no angst. The main premise is that Brodie Bailey is a musician who is trying to get his creative juices flowing again and he finds that by way of Taylor Evans, an artist they meet at a wedding. Brodie is non-binary but it isn’t something he has released to the rest of the world, not even their bandmates. They don’t really struggle with this because they know they’re pretty sure they’ll be accepted by their bandmates but Brodie was trying to find the best way to tell them. Taylor is very loving and very accepting of Brodie and who they are.

I like how the story builds the relationship between Brodie and Taylor. You can tell that they like each other but they take their time to act on it. Even though this is a novella, nothing sexual happens between Brodie and Taylor until the last chapter. The scene is fade to black. I guess one of the themes of the book is being with your found family that accepts you for who you are and Brodie is very much loved and accepted by their close friends.

4.5 ⭐

somehow, rochelle wolf managed to fit so much warmth, depth, and authenticity into just 90 pages. song for you is a genuinely wholesome read, with a romance that feels natural and unforced.

brodie and taylor’s connection builds at just the right pace—no instant love, no rushed emotions, just two artists inspiring each other and gradually growing closer. the story gives them space to develop, making their relationship feel real and meaningful.

and brodie? easily my favorite fictional non-binary character. they have this perfect balance of sweetness, charisma, and kindness that makes them instantly likable. as a non-binary reader, this kind of representation means a lot. it’s refreshing to see a character like brodie written with so much care, and i hope we get more of this in the book community.

overall, song for you is a beautifully crafted novella that delivers on emotion, character depth, and romance, all in a compact but fulfilling read. highly recommend if you’re looking for something soft yet impactful.

also, big thanks to the author for the e-arc!

Again, a nice and interesting novella by Rochelle Wolf.

During Gabriella and Jenna’s wedding, the characters from the first novella ”Act Two” by the same author, Brodie, a former boy band musician, met Taylor, a wedding painter.

Brodie were going through a self-exploratory period and a lack of inspiration for writing music. After meeting Taylor and seeing her art, something stirred in them. The support for art that Brodie were giving Taylor was transformed into love. They finally start to feel creative and find the courage to come out as a non-binary person.

Brodie were a friend of Bea’s from ”Room for Two” and worked in her bookstore café, who also appeared in this story. I really liked how the characters crossover from previous novellas into this one.

I loved the amount of support Brodie got from their friends. It is wonderful to read about that kind of acceptance and support.

I always appreciate a novella that gets it right with the back story, the plot, the ending. I started this Sunday morning, took it with me for some coffee and finished it up before noon. You’ve got a cute story about Brodie, a lead singer in a band and Taylor, an artist - as your main characters. They meet at a wedding they’re both working at and a series of events brings them together. Brodie is trying to figure out their identity and Taylor is the support we all deserve from life.
You can expect supportive friend groups, cutesy story line, and of course a happy ending for our main characters 🥰

Thank you Rochelle Wolf for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The pacing of Wolf’s novellas are always near perfect, and I lap the romantic vibes up every single time!

I loved Brodie’s character; they were sweet as pie and I found them to be super endearing. I liked Taylor but wish she had been fleshed out a little more; she seemed more reserved than Brodie and therefore I got a bit of a reluctant vibe from her when it came to their relationship that didn’t fit into the story so well.

However, it was still a fabulous novella and Wolf’s queer romances are always impeccably thought out 💘

This was absolutely adorable. I loved that even for a novella the romance wasn’t too rushed it formed in a way that felt natural. While also showing that sometimes you can realize your feelings for someone a lot quicker than you’d expect. Overall it was short, but very sweet with a hint of spice. I also enjoyed that it had a good amount of theatre and Art background and little hints of broadway references. I think it was a very sweet and enjoyable read that I would definitely recommend. Thank you Rochelle Wolf for the opportunity to do this arc.

This is a fast paced novella about finding love where you least expect it. Told from one POV, we are taken along a journey of self discovery and finding the one person who truly helps bring you out of your shell and accepts every part of you. The cute dynamic duo of an artist and singer/song writer inspire each other to build their best, authentic selves. Reading as Brodie gains the confidence they crave through their bandmates and Taylor is heartwarming and highlights the importance of having a chosen family.

I thought this was a sweet story about self discovery and learning how to embrace your true self. And of course there was romance along the way. I liked both Brodie and Taylor, they paired together well and just fit. Brodie being all awkward and shy around Taylor was adorable! I liked how Brodie slowly came out of their shell and became more comfortable around Taylor and also became more comfortable in their skin.

Overall a short and sweet romance featuring a nonbinary mc and his artistic muse.

This was such an interesting look into the mind of an NB, and all the difficult questions they asked before publicly announcing their pronouns. It really is difficult to know what someone is going through, and I really appreciate getting an insight into one perspective.

I also liked that we got the other characters from previous novellas popping up in this one!
