Tales from the Orc Chasm

Rate this book
Tales from the Orc Chasm is a collection of short, interconnected romances in a cozy fantasy world, involving orcs, humans, halflings, and fairies.

Snowed in with the Orc
Fawn has seen countless others try to flirt with the handsome orc tavern keeper Erryc, she knows he always turns them down. Unbearably shy, she's determined to keep her feelings for her friend to herself, even when he comes to her with a dilemma— he needs her to pretend to be his lover to gently dissuade a persistent patron. However, a drunken kiss at the Winter Solstice festival might ruin their friendship forever.

Only One Bedroll
Mushrooms, halfling-eating monsters, and orcs, oh my. When Bianca Chanterelle gets lost in the woods, she doesn’t expect the orc hunter that finds her to be any help getting back to her traveling party, but with him finds adventure, a secret microbiome, a terrifying monster, and a budding attraction between them. Tanis, son of Dhane the Bloodthirsty, shouldn’t be so curious about the halfling woman who is utterly unsuited to living in the woods, but he can’t resist the way his blood calls to her, especially when they find themselves hiding in a tent, sharing his bedroll. When the rest of the orcish hunting party decides to raid the traveling halfling troupe of actors’ camp, however, a staged kidnapping and a monster intervention may not be enough to make sure everyone gets out of the woods.

What Makes A Firebug Glow?
The problem isn’t that the bounty hunter orc is several times the fairy’s stature. It isn’t even that he’s rude, mouthy, and makes Nettle scald with only a look– it’s that he might just be what she needs to glow again. She only hires the grizzled Silver to help her navigate a treacherous gauntlet, but between saving each other’s lives and getting thoroughly mixed up in each others’ drinks and business, they find a way to make it fit.

First of all, the title? 10/10. No notes.

Out of the three stories I would have to say the first one was my favorite. A bit of friends to lovers with mutual pining and even a taste of fake dating! But the size difference in the third story? PERFECTION. I was so excited when I saw it was an orc and pixie sized fae.

If you're in the market for sweet and spicy short stories with orc mmcs, I definitely recommend checking this out!

Eh each story was cute but would’ve been so much better drawn out.

First things first, I love that Kate added artwork of each couple before their story!! I always love her art, and I can't picture characters, so it's helpful and fun! Especially because the size differences keep getting greater.

Story 1:
Erryc and Fawn have definitely been into each other for a long time, but didn't realize it was reciprocated. Erryc is a lively barkeeper, while Fawn is the shy hunter that travels around but always stops at Erryc's tavern.

friends to lovers, mutual pining, fake dating, opposites attract

Story 2:
Bianca, a halfling, has never met an orc.
Tanis, an orc, has never met a halfling.
These two come across each other, and Tanis (out of curiosity about this strange creature) agrees to help her find her way back to her camp.

I loved all the tiny misunderstandings between these two. Her last name is Chanterelle, so he thinks she's kin to Mushrooms. Her horse is called Horace, but he thinks she is just saying Horse. Those little miscommunications are my favorite.

Also, Bianca seems even smaller than Fawn. So, hello, size difference. Also, strangers to lovers, fated mates, one bed(roll)

Story 3:
We are back at Erryc's tavern. Nettle is a tiny little fey up in the rafters who is waiting the orc bounty hunter, Silver. She needs his help to restore her magic to get home. But this gruff bountyhunter has her lighting up even without her magic.

Extreme size difference (no trying to fit, just riding), gruff x polished, secret royalty, nicknames

Great short stories, I'd love to read more from this world!
1. Snowed in with the Orc : Such a cute story about an adorably awkward human woman and a hot orc tavernkeeper. They were friends for years and both thought their deeper feelings were unrequited. The idiots were so oblivious, that I couldn't help but love them both ;)
2. Only One Bedroll: That was adorable too! The cultural differences that made sprouted misunderstandings between Bianca and Tanis were so funny. I loved how he thought that she didn't name her horse and just called him Horse when his name was simply Horace ;) I thought it would just be a fling between them so finding out that they've got a happily ever after was great!
3. What Makes A Firebug Glow? : A sweet story with a proper pixie Lady and rough around the edges orc bounty hunter. Lady Nettle was losing her magic and she needed help of someone bigger to get to the magical spring and fix her problem. That her magic was flaring back to life whenever she got hot and bothered by her huge and sexy companion was a delight. I didn't think they could make them work, but they did and good for them! Silver was a much better male than many men, he chose a woman he would never be able to stick his dick in ;)

Loved it!

Three little short orc-ish stories to delight my Orc loving heart!

Each a tasty treat, none of them lacked in plot or spice.

Definitely loved the variety of FMC. Almost like Prior was easing us into a less human FMC with each little tale (which I think is a kindness for those new to monster romance).

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Would 100% recommend!

Tales from the Orc Chasm by Kate Prior – This novella collection is on kindle unlimited. The first story was sweet enough you almost forget it’s a monster romance. The second story makes you have some side eye at proportions. The third one has you shaking your head in utter disbelief. But all three were adorable which should have been impossible! Happy Reading!

Three lovely stories

Kate Prior has constructed a welcoming fantasy world and set three lovely stories in it. Characters find their confidence while building relationships. I hope she writes more stories in this world.

I liked the stories but they weren’t as polished as Kate’s works normally are. A lot of grammatical errors made it harder to focus.

3 Orc romances where the heroines get progressively smaller. What a bonkers concept. I think I like the first story the best of the 3, but all of them are done well.
