Against All Odds: International Adventures

Rate this book
Deeply wounded in his childhood and struggling to come to terms with failed relationships, Jim Stier wondered if God could ever use a life as fractured as his.

Indeed God would use him -- in ways that Jim could never have imagined. Confronted with the opportunity to deny his Savior, Jim surrendered his life, with all of its pain, to God. So began an inspiring journey of struggle, faith, and victory that ultimately led to the lost, hurting people of Brazil and beyond.

Against All Odds is a compelling reminder that God restores broken lives and broken dreams. This story of one man's passion to see a nation transformed is a stunning testimony that Christ's grace and mercy can redeem any life surrendered to Him.

On every continent, in every nation, God is at work in and through the lives of believers. From the streets of Manila to mysterious Albania to the jungles of Ecuador and beyond. This and every title in the International Adventures series emerges as a dramatic episode that could be directed only by the hand of God. There are 14 books in this International Adventures series.

Wow! This is definitely the best book yet that we’ve read from this set. It is professionally written and tells story after story of God’s faithfulness and miraculous provision. It reminded me of George Mueller in many ways: following God’s leading even when it seemed illogical from a human perspective, and then seeing God provide in incredible ways. The author remains humble throughout, not hiding his faith struggles and always glorifying God for the miracles and the faith that He gave.

My kids and I all enjoyed this book and it strengthened our faith. God reigns, and He can do anything!!

I've read a couple of books from this series, and not all are equal quality. But this book is really good. Having been a YWAMer most of my life (even when not always associated with the organization), these stories of trust hit home and remind me of so many times God has provided, spoken, and guided me.

A great and easy read for anyone interested in missions or in learning to trust God more.

I enjoy reading these books. So refreshing to read about God moving in peoples lives and in nations. I'm encouraged, challenged and confronted to step out in faith more and to trust God's character.

And I loved that it was sharing about the beginning years and to think about Brazil now and how many missionaries are being sent from that nation all over the world. God is so faithful!

There are good books and then there are good books to read at the right time. This is one of those. Even though I've heard some of the stories several times, it is still incredibly encouraging to read about the pioneering experience of YWAM Brazil. Of course, it makes a big difference to be able to meet the author in person and see how he is still pioneering after 40 some years. His life stories are inspiring! To sum it up, "In God, all things are possible!"

Slightly odd theology, but the author is passionately dedicated to seeing Christ proclaimed throughout the world.
