قد تبدو هذه الرواية للوهلة الأولى وكأنها واحدة من روايات الخيال العلمي التقليدية، فأحداثها المكتوبة تبدو غير منسجمة مع واقعنا الحالي، وتوحي وكأنها تنتمي لتخيلات مستقبل بعيد. ولكنها ... بالتأكيد ... ليست كذلك. إنها جزء لا يتجزأ من مستقبلنا القريب ... القريب جدًا، وهذا ما يجعلها تتخطى حدود الخيال العلمي لتسكن في قلب روايات الرعب.
