A Mountain Man Adventure is an epic tale of survival, friendship, and unyielding determination set against the rugged backdrop of the untamed American frontier.
The year is 1828. Irish immigrant Habakkuk Hickey arrives in St. Louis with nothing but his resolve and a dream of making a life in the vast wilderness. Starving and nearly out of hope, the 18-year-old's fortunes take a turn when he is taken under the wing of seasoned trapper and trader Jacob Berger. Signing on as a blacksmith for the American Fur Company's Upper Missouri Outfit, Habakkuk embarks on a journey up the Missouri River to help build Fort Union and open trade with the region’s tribes.
In the process, Habakkuk forms an unbreakable bond with fellow greenhorns Newton Martin and Claude Gramm. Together, they face grueling trials, forging a brotherhood strengthened by their shared struggles. But their true test comes in 1830, when they join Jacob and a small group of men on a perilous mission into Blackfeet Country to establish trade with the formidable Blackfoot Confederacy—known as the most feared and warlike tribe of the Northern Plains.
The journey into Blackfeet territory is fraught with treacherous terrain, harsh weather, and the ever-present threat of violent confrontation. Yet for Habakkuk and his friends, the risk is outweighed by the allure of adventure, glory, and the chance to carve their names into the annals of history.
In A Mountain Man Adventure, Book 1 of the series, LeRoy A. Peters delivers a gripping story of courage, camaraderie, and the unrelenting spirit of those who dared to tame the wilderness. Will Habakkuk and his companions survive the perils of Blackfeet Country—or will their dream of adventure become their ultimate undoing?

LeRoy Peters gives us a great introduction to a new Fur Trade series. Fearless includes colorful characters that interact with historical persons involved in the upper Missouri River fur business. This story demonstrates the diverse nature of the people involved in the northern Rocky Mountains during the 1820s and 30s. Peters gives us a rare positive look into the complex character of the Blackfeet Confederacy. A good story and series to follow!
I found this book both relaxing and entertaining to read. Had some interesting info on native tribes as to where they were located and who they were allied with and/or opposed to.
This was a good story, though there seemed to places where it fell apart. I loved the big black stallion and it reminded me how my grandfather used to talk about the wild horses his dad gathered that he swore were draft crosses. Good story!
This was truly an amazing Book with a great Storyline. Loved it being about the Black Feet Tribe and their exceptsance into this Tribe and their loving Wives.
This book is well written, it keeps you interested right from the start. Great characters and a true sense of what it must have been like in the mountains. I look forward to the next book.
This is a great read from start to finish. Love the characters and storylines and how the adventures are woven together in to a great book. Highly recommend and hope for this to become a series
This is a good book with a very good story line, about three young trappers/Mountain men, who lived with, and married native American women. They also helped develop trade between the Blackfeet people, and the whites.
A good start to a new series from Leroy Peters. Habakkuk Hickey a young Irishman lands in St. Louis and heads west with two friends to learn the fur trade.
