Sequel to The BookFest® Award Winner, Tangled Promises

Wurttemberg, Germany, 1881

“I’ll keep your secret. But, Clara.” Oma looked her granddaughter in the eye. “Choices carry consequences.”

Clara and Daniel, the Baron’s daughter and the family carriage driver, followed their hearts and married secretly circumventing nobility’s rules. They conduct their lives separately while sneaking every opportunity to be together. When Clara is forced to reveal her marriage, can she also hide the life growing inside her, and what punishment awaits from her father?

If Vati sends her away, Daniel promises to follow. But unexpected family troubles bring them face-to-face with the words of Proverbs 16:9. A man's heart deviseth his but the Lord directeth his steps.

Her grandmother’s last warning spins like a tempest threatening to shipwreck their joy and fray every promise they have made.

Will they trust that God gives impossibilities beautiful endings?

If you enjoy stories of faith in the face of society's pressures and trusting God in times of struggle, you'll love this closed-door romance that will keep you guessing until the end. For readers of Tracie Peterson and Ann H. Gabhart.

Inconvenient pregnancy, sanctity of life, and past abortion are a part of this story—handled with gentleness and grace.

Frayed Promises is the second book in the amazing Promised Destiny series written by the talented Lynn U. Watson. Reading this book was like being welcomed home by the characters from book one, Tangled Promises. This book is a beautiful display of second chances, redemption, faith, and reliance on Christ to write our stories. This story did not end how I expected it to, and it made for a bigger picture than could be imagined at the start. The tagline of this book says it best, "God gives impossibilities beautiful endings." I can not wait to continue this story in book three.

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. My opinion was entirely my own and in no way swayed.

This was a bittersweet story, a reminder of parental authority, especially in the 1800s in Germany. And a portrayal of challenges of love, pregnancy, immigration and more. I really enjoyed it.

"Frayed Promises" is a captivating love story that beautifully intertwines the lives of Clara, the Baron's daughter, and Daniel, the family carriage driver. As a sequel to "Tangled Promises," this novel explores the theme of how God can transform impossibilities into beautiful endings. The narrative takes a dramatic turn as Clara and Daniel navigate the challenges of keeping their secret marriage hidden, especially with the added excitement of a new little one on the way. The story is filled with emotional depth, intrigue, and faith making it a must read.

the story continues!

Frayed promises continues where tangled promises left off.
The stark extremes that Clara had to endure were so far removed from what I know in today’s culture, but what an emotional roller coaster she would have been through, poor dear.

I love how even at Clara’s darkest the Lord put people who spoke truth to her.

It took a little time for me to really get into this story. At first, I just wanted to shake both Clara and Daniel for their actions – marrying in secret when Clara knew her Vati would never approve, persisting in their intimate relationship and running the risk of a consequence that couldn’t be hidden. Yes, they were young and in love and defying the societal norms that forbade a relationship between the daughter of a noble house and a member of that house’s staff. The heart wants what the heart wants. I know, I know. And at first, I wanted to roll my eyes and sigh over their poor choices.

But somewhere along the way, this story really caught my heart. I think it was when Clara realized she was expecting and had to contemplate whether she should take the pennyroyal tea in an effort to rid herself of what many might see as an inconvenience. I wanted to cheer when she chose life! I was adopted as an infant. I’m sure at least one person in my birth mother’s family saw my existence as a tremendous inconvenience, and had abortion been as available and even accepted as it is now, I might not be here. So Clara’s choice made my heart happy.

And after that, I could hardly put the book down. Life happened in unexpected ways, and where Clara planned to travel to America with Daniel when the book opened, she found herself traveling in the company of a female friend and pregnant to boot. A pregnant woman appearing to travel without a husband could draw some undesirable attention, but thankfully, Max, a friend of Clara’s Onkel Martin, was traveling on the ship. He provided a helpful male presence, and we see in their internal monologues that Clara and Max find themselves almost unwillingly developing feelings for each other that are more than friendship.

Faith is central to the story. Clara realizes how far she has drifted from God and wonders why He would put Max in her path when all she wants is Daniel. Max still mourns his wife’s death and doesn’t think he’s interested in a relationship, but he recognizes that God is telling him he has a role to play in Clara’s life. And the ending of the book makes it clear that man and woman may plan their steps, but the Lord truly directs their paths if they will just allow Him to lead.

Once it pulled me in, this story was a delight to my heart. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys historical fiction and characters wrestling with and living out their faith.

Frayed Promises is an interesting historical fiction romance novel with some twists and turns that you’re going to love! This is also the second book in a series. Make sure you read the first book first.

Secret marriage. Against the rules of the classes and her father’s wishes, the baron’s daughter marries their chauffeur. And since it’s in secret, no one knows. So what is going to happen when they find out Clara is pregnant?!

This is a wonderful book of faith, romance, love, and consequences. Because even when we think we might be doing the right thing, there are consequences. We can’t just go against the rules and expect everything to be roses and sweet-smelling.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The characters are wonderful. They really reach out and grab you. I loved how the book read quickly and flowed at a wonderful pace. Even the “bad” characters in the novel were hard to hate because you could sympathize with them somewhat. I also loved seeing Germany and Chicago during this time period and following the journey from one to the other. Fun fact, my daughter and I are both learning/refreshing on German this semester so this felt like an appropriate read for us!

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from JustRead Publicity Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review, nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

When I first picked up Frayed Promises, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was quickly swept away in the narrative and captivated by forbidden love and the consequences that come from secrets held.

There are a lot of sweet moments that are sprinkled throughout the novel, where tender conversations occur, bonding happens, and sharing in one another’s grief abounds. While romantic love does blossom in various ways, the love and support of friends and family is what really captured my heart. It’s clear this novel was written to make you think.

The story did take an unexpected turn, which continued to keep the story interesting, and the character depth ran deep, especially when it came to Clara. The writing and overall tone are warm and engaging, despite the tougher subject matter that is tackled. I didn’t get to read the first novel before I dove into this one, but I wouldn’t mind going back and reading Tangled Promises so I could see some of the events that were alluded to in this book.

There were parts that did feel like they dragged, and I had wished the pace could’ve been snappier, but the good parts more than make up for these slower moments. Wonderful story!

*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.

Christian Historical Romance is a favorite genre of mine. Frayed Promises by Lynn U. Watson is Book 2 in the Promised Destiny Series. I had the honor of reading Book 1 in this series and was anticipating the release of this book.

WOW, this second book really grasped my attention very quickly. The setting is the 1880's in Germany and Chicago. The main characters in the book are Clara Reinhold and Daniel Becker. This book picks up where Book 1 left off. Clara and Daniel went against Clara's father and they decided to get married in secret. They decided to hide this from Clara's father, but when he finds out, there are consequences. Clara and Daniel are also expecting a child. They decide to cross the Ocean and move to Chicago to be away from Clara's father. The storyline tells of their trials and mishaps through all the consequences. They are encouraged by the scripture and God's will for them. The book is one of Faith, Second Chances, LOVE and Romance. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Chrisitain Historical Romance. WONDERFUL BOOK!

The story is the continuation of Clara and Daniel’s romance from Tangled Promises. I liked that we got to see these characters again and got to see the next part of their story. I liked that we saw their different struggles and the ups and downs in their relationship. I also liked the unexpected things that happened and the unexpected ending. I liked how Clara had to learn to lean on her faith in God even when things were not turning out as she was expecting. I felt a connection with Clara and definitely mourned with her as she went through her different trials. I was glad with how things resolved in the end even though it was unexpected.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors.  A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

I have to admit that historical fiction is not my normal genre to read but this author has been very patient with me as I attempted to participate in two different launch teams now. I failed miserably last year but I was able to finish the second book in her series today. It started out a little slowly for me but once I got fully into the story, I didn't want to put it down. I have been decluttering and unpacking a lot during the last two weeks, so I have not had the normal time I have to read. I stole moments to find out what would happen next to Clara. I really appreciated that the ending was a surprise and was not tied up in some fancy bow. It was a lot more accurate to life the way it ended and I was rooting for Clara fully until the end of the story! This was the perfect escape read for me to indulge in at this time!

Frayed Promises
By Lynn U. Watson

Another fascinating epic from Lynn U. Watson. She took me on quite the emotional tromp as I grew with her characters through their journey, quite literally. What a rollercoaster! Spiritually, she stirred up some challenging issues which has me still searching my heart. Her thorough research of the time period, and cultural and industrial elements placed me right there. It’s most definitely one of many of the writer’s fortes. Although, I found some of the scenes a bit incredible, I couldn’t stop reading. Upon finishing the book and reading the Authors Note I can see why. I appreciated it all the more when I learned of the factual elements of the story. Nicely done and well-crafted.

Set in 1880s Germany and Chicago, Frayed Promises by Lynn U. Watson follows Clara Reinhold (from Tangled Promises) as she navigates love and societal expectations. The rich prose, measured pacing, introspective narration, and elegant dialogue lend the story an old-world charm. Watson balances historical accuracy with the timeless struggles of duty and desire, crafting a story that explores difficult subjects with depth and sensitivity. A compelling choice for fans of well-researched Christian historical fiction.

The author provided me with an ARC, but all opinions are my own.

Frayed Promises is the second set in a series and follows Tangled Promises. This adventure takes Clara to America, where she questions her faith, misses her family, and wonders if God is nudging her to a new version of her future. Will she be able to stay with Daniel or follow a different path? Clara has many obstacles in her way as she ponders the future, adjusts to her new circumstances, and tries to figure out who she can trust. I enjoyed the entire journey to America, beginning with the ship and ending in Chicago.

This is a fun read, and I look forward to the next book, Planted Promises!

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres. Book 2 in this series does not disappoint. It portrays the realities of a German Baron's daughter who flouted the established rules of society for love. The consequences Clara suffers for her choices break your heart, but her life isn't over. There are reasons for everything that happens, and this story reminds readers we all have choices that determine the quality of our lives no matter the circumstances.

The second book in the Promised Destiny series picks up where Tangled Promises left off. Clara and Daniel have defied nobility's rules and married, but the consequences of that action turn out to be far-reaching. I enjoyed this adventure that travels from late 19th century Germany across the Atlantic and to Chicago. The characters are engaging and the trials and tribulations they face are accurately portrayed. Through it all, however, Clara turns to her faith to keep moving forward.

Frayed promises, held my attention. Suspense is built, layer upon layer as we yearn for Clara’s happiness. No spoilers here, but Watson knows how to spin a tale. Enjoy fashion references, thoughts on pregnancy during the time, and relationships that are good, messy and run deep. Friendships and family are explored and Watson entertains us as she leads us through important life issues, stirring our hearts for Clara.

I loved this continued story. It shows the struggles of the day between social classes.
It is packed with women of faith and courage. It crosses the ocean and shows growth in Chicago. It has many twists and turns. It has a wonderful hero, romance, pain, and a surprise at the end as to who the villan is. Enjoy

What a wonderful story of second chances! Watching Clara learn God's desire for her life was great. I really enjoyed the history in the book too, and how the author wove her own history with the story.

Unexpected surprises that left me wanting to read more. Lots of historic details, a real crisis, and different ways to deal with them (all with different outcomes). Looking forward to the next one.
