He’s always been the one, the problem is, she’s not the only one that thinks so.
For Miss Susannah Wayland, John has always been the ideal match. Stuck in her role as his pseudo younger sister, she jumps when she’s offered the chance to attend the London Season and prove she’s no longer a little girl. There’s only two a handsome suitor who is determined to win her affections and an estranged aunt scheming to ruin her.
Lord Johnathan Newhurst knows a plethora of big words, but between his frustrating stutter and crippling social anxiety, he can’t seem to get the right ones to leave his mouth—especially when it comes to professing his love for his childhood friend. With a determined admirer now vying for Susannah’s affection, the clock of opportunity marks his limited time to confess. Can Johnathan gain the courage before another suitor claims Susannah’s heart…or another woman steals his freedom?
What a delightful book! This is book 2 in the series and although I do recommend reading the first book first, this book does work as a stand alone too. I loved John and Savannah! They have know each other forever, but their feelings for each other have moved to the romantic variety. However, neither one of them realizes the other returns their affections, so it makes a standstill as they each look for signals from the other to know whether to proceed romantically or not. It is hard for John as he has a stutter sometimes when nervous but especially when around women. When Susannah gets offered a season she goes, and things get complicated when her conniving sinister Aunt gets involved. I felt bad for both John and Susannah in their struggles to come together. John is so sweet, protective and romantic. I really enjoy the cast of characters that make up the friends. They are all so close and I love watching them interact. Overall, this was a great story and I recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
Content: miscarriage scene (light details) it is somewhat long so if that is a trigger for you keep that in mind.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
This was my first @teahthewriter book I've read, but I'm so hooked now, I'm going to be binge reading them all! 😅
I absolutely loved how the story just sweeps you away from page one with the easy going friendships & banters, the sweet romance, and how John struggles to find the words to tell Susannah how he's always felt. I always love it when the two characters have had a childhood friendship/always loved the other one. 🩷
I have yet to read the first in this series, Rescued From Betrayal, and I have a feeling it would've been a good idea to read it first. 🙈😅 It has a lot of the same people, and mentions about things that happened in book 1, so I'd recommend reading these in order. 🩷
If you enjoy a clean, closed door sweet regency romance, then I highly recommend this one! 🩷
ℹ️ A miscarriage happened in this book, so there were few mentions of that, nothing too detailed
*I received an e-ARC copy, all opinions are my own
This is a kisses only Regency era book. It's the 2nd book in the Harrowed Hearts series. It has a standalone story but there are characters featured prominently in this book that were introduced in the first one. It isn't essential that you have read the first book, but it does add some extra context for this one.
When I started this one, I was a little apprehensive. I had just finished reading a different book that was basically two people pining for each other for the whole thing. It got old fast and left a poor feeling in my mind. The way this book started gave me those vibes and made me a bit concerned that I would have to endure another book like that. I should have had more faith in Teah! She delivered a much deeper storyline than that! Pretty soon all memory of that other book faded from my mind.
I really appreciated the inclusion of the social anxiety and stuttering issues that Johnathan faced. It made him more real. He's a real likeable character, and so was Susannah. Seeing Johnathan's friend group around was entertaining and added many humorous events to the story. I look forward to reading more in the series to see how their relationships develop.
I was gifted an advanced digital copy of this book by the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. I will included one potential trigger warning that may be a bit of a spoiler. So if you do not want to be spoiled in anyway, stop reading the review now. . . . . . . . . . . Content/Trigger warning to follow that may be viewed as spoilerish. There is a miscarriage that takes place in the book. The details contained are not necessarily graphic, but there is more explanation of the situation than I've encountered in any other books of this type. It is handled tactfully, but I was affected by the scene and I haven't experienced that situation personally. I know that it can be very triggering and wanted to make a note of it.
“Why could women not come with instructions on how to win their hearts? It would make the courtship process infinitely easier.”
One of my favorite things about this author’s books is her memorable characters! She writes the wonderfully endearing, the headstrong, and the despicable. This book is no different!
Lord Jonathan Newhart’s is such a wonderful soul! His awareness of Susannah is absolutely darling and endearing.
Susannah Wayland is what an oldest sister should be: loving, responsible, and kind. After her mother died she also took on the role of mother.
Her aunt, Mrs. Guthrie, on the other hand is the most self-serving, socially aware, despicable characters in romance writing! She is so well written, you cannot help but despise her!
This story is filled with wit and banter while also tastefully tackling tougher topics. The pacing is spot on to keep the reader wanting more.

Instantly fell into this read, the family of the FMC, Miss Susanah Wayland, has been struggling to adjust from the loss of their mother, but their schooling and the invitation by friends to host her marriage season causes further disruption. Lord Johnathan Newhurst follows his friends and his childhood best friend/crush to London despite his speech difficulties and aversion to society. The sincerity of their feelings for each other is so sweet but neither is aware, and both have reasons to believe the match would be ideal but that they lack what the other desires. Jealousy and sadness swirls as they find themselves the objects of interest by eligible suitors and ladies of the Ton. The story is full of interesting and fascinating characters that pulls you close to each. Their friendship as a close group and banter is humorous while a vicious villain has you cringing every time she appears. I especially loved the balcony scene and the scandal that followed. I regret not having read book one before I read this one. I don't care what anyone says, if the characters in a series carry over to the other books, they are not standalones! I was a bit overwhelmed with the characters that should have been familiar, and I need to know about the cloak room scandal in book one. I read his as an e-book arc, but I will be buying both ppb's and look forward to re-reading this after reading book one.
*There is a miscarriage scene, but not very descriptive.
📝 My Thoughts: Treachery, True Love, and Tender Triumphs. This book absolutely stole my heart! 🥰 Pursued Beyond Treachery is everything I crave in a historical romance: sweet, heartfelt, and so beautifully written that I didn’t want it to end. It’s a slow burn done perfectly, with deep emotional payoff and a romance that feels timeless and true.
Susannah and John’s story is tender and hopeful, filled with moments that made me smile, tear up, and root for them with my whole heart. Their friendship turned love feels so genuine and believable, and I loved how the story explored strength through vulnerability. The secondary characters add warmth and wit, making the world feel alive and connected to the rest of the series. Every scene feels true to its Regency setting while still pulsing with real emotion.
💬 Series Note: This is book two in the Harrowed Hearts series. It can be read on its own, but reading from the start lets you fully enjoy the character threads and the emotional richness that carries through the series.
⚠️ Potential Triggers: The author includes a gentle content note regarding miscarriage, handled with care and sensitivity. This is a clean and sweet romance with no explicit content or harsh language.
💗 Who I’d Recommend It To: Perfect for fans of Regency romance who love slow-burn, friends-to-lovers stories with heart, sincerity, and real emotional stakes.
🔖 Favorite Quote: “…and if it comes to choosing between status and true affection, I beg you to choose love like your mother and I did. It may not bring you fine furs and fancy dresses, but it will fill your heart with more wealth than any rich man could ever give.”
📌 Final Verdict: A heart-melting, soul-soothing Regency romance that proves love can conquer fear, pride, and even treachery. Teah Kemp Weight delivers yet another emotional masterpiece. I adored every page and can’t wait to dive into the next book! 💖
~He’s always been the one, the problem is, she’s not the only one that thinks so…
-Pursued beyond TREACHERY, is dear book #2 in the delightful Harrowing Hearts Series. This is such a delightful and heartwarming story, that will immediately draw you into its pages filled with such bravery, compassion, and humor. The dear friendships, witty banter, intrigue, surprising twists and turns, swoony moments, sparkling chemistry, endearing characters, deception, and a sweet romance will have your heart. I thoroughly loved watching dear characters not only find but take great courage to matters of the heart and to the value and importance of love. The depth this dear story has is simply wonderful. While there is deep heartache, there is also such real connection, friendship, hope, compassion, and beauty! This story my friends, is a story worth the dear read. It also will have you excited for more to come from this lovely author. I am here for it all! 💯
“We all have mountains to climb. You will never know the wonders you will find at the top if you don’t take the first - or in your case, say the first word. You may find speaking far easier than you think.”

“Choose love. It may not bring you fine furs and fancy dresses, but it will fill your heart with more wealth than any rich man could ever give.”
Pursued Beyond Treachery is a sweet childhood friends-to-lovers regency love story. Susannah was such a sweet and strong character! She does everything she can to support her family and keeps her own worries and troubles to herself, never asking for anything. John, her neighbor and close family friend, is also sweet, strong, and protective of Susannah throughout the story.
One of Susannah’s friends sponsors her for a London season and she sets out to gain a husband, with her interest set on John. While another man tries to woo her, Susannah is torn between the man she’s always loved (uncertain of his feelings for her) and another man who could support her and is plain with his feelings. A cruel and manipulative family member also pokes their nose in where it is unwanted and attempts to reek havoc to throughout the story.
It was nice to see how Teah managed all of the issues in the story to ultimately end up with our happily-ever-after.
We get to watch Susannah navigate town for the first time and learn more about the tight friend group we met in Rescued From Betrayal.
I am so invested in each friends story line that I can’t wait for the next story to come out!
Thank you to Teah for including me in her ARC team, all opinions expressed are my own.
Potential spoilers in the content warning.
Content warning: Language - none Kisses only (mild - moderately descriptive) - comments on desiring the other person A miscarriage (extended scene, no explicit details beyond a mention of blood and losing the baby) Toxic family members A man talks about just getting what he wants before moving on Death of family member (off-page, in the past)
It always makes me sad when family is the villain instead of being trustworthy as is the case in this situation. I especially enjoyed the tale of the main characters meeting as children which quickly grew into deep friendship, and how John was practically adopted into her family after the death of his parents. I have a soft spot for a good friends to lovers story, and this one was delightful in spite of the fact that I got so frustrated. So much misunderstandings and angst could have been avoided if they would just be honest with each other. Of course, a good portion of the story would be gone without that, and I’m sure it made them truly appreciate each other. John was such a thoughtful friend and had good reason for his reluctance to speak his mind; he dealt with his stuttering by using the etymology of words to help him get past it. Susannah knew him so well that she could often fill in the words for him when he struggled, but yet had a hard time knowing how much he loved her. Still the story was sweet and filled with tender moments that made their difficult journey worth it to get to their happily ever after ending. Thanks to the author, I received a complimentary advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
So glad John gets his chance to shine in this installment. We meet this shy, socially awkward, hidden artist in the first book , and even then you learn there is a story behind his awkwardness in front of a childhood friend Susannah. As Susannah struggles not to burden her family and friends with her needs and grievances, John feels burdened with his speech impediment to confess his feelings. Finally, in the setting of Regency London with all kinds of nastiness, jealousy, and treacherous backstabbing from all and sundry, from the main characters’ POV we learn how to rely not only on themselves but also on good friends to achieve the heart desires, and to trust that for those who love you you are never a burden. The plot is well-done, the style is very engaging, the main (as well as some of the side) characters are good and adorable, and the clean romance that defines the relationship is just so sweet (just wait for chapter 32!).
Possible triggers: social anxiety, speech impediment, death in the family - all done with empathy, love, and gentleness.
I had a privilege to read an advanced copy but all opinions expressed are my own. This series is a delight to read.
"We all have mountains to climb. You will never know the wonders you will find at the top if you don't take the first step-or in your case, say the first word."
"You have been my dream for as long as I can remember."
I adore this sweet supportive group of friends. I love that each couple shines in their respective books, but that we also get so much interaction with the whole group in each story. As this series progresses I get more invested in each character and not just the main ones.
Susannah and John's story, although fraught with impediments, is sweet and tender. Their friendship is beautiful.
I loved that John found his voice, confidence, and strength throughout this book. I adored him in the first book in this series and was so excited when I found out that his story would be next. I loved his obsession with the etymology of words!
Susannah, while a bit naive to the machinations of the ton, is so kindhearted and strong. I love when she comes to realize that she has people she can depend on and lean on for support when she needs it.
I love the author's writing style and find myself engrossed in her books from the very first chapter. I can't wait to see which character's story we get next!
I’m a little late to the party, but Teah Weight‘s newest book is absolutely wonderful! One of my favorite things about reading her book is that each book is even better than the previous book; Pursued Beyond Treachery is no exception!
I loved the friends to lovers arc between Susannah and John. They are both such kind, pure people, and watching them come together made for a lovely read. Just like their friends, it was so obvious to me as the reader that they were meant to be together; they just needed to come to that realization themselves! And I love that there’s a bit of a scandal to the circumstances of their mutual realization.
I love the theme of family throughout this book, too - both literal family and found family. I love that even before it’s official, Susannah’s family basically adopts John as their own. The core friend group of this series is just fabulous, too - they’re exactly the sort of friends we all want and need!
Trigger warning: a character suffers a miscarriage. It’s covered very respectfully and isn’t graphic, but I recognize it is a very sensitive topic.
Thank you to the author, both for the ARC and the patience with my April being rather crazy! All opinions are my own.
"You have been my dream for as long as I can remember. It grew slowly, a girlish admiration, but these last two years it has blossomed into a womanly desire."
Pursued Beyond Treachery is a wonderful addition to the Harrowed Heart's series. Susannah, in the wake of grief, gets an opportunity to have a London season, but her heart really belongs, & always has, to Lord Newhurst. With his heart stuck in his throat, Lord Newhurst is unable to confess the feelings he returns.
You know that all is not going to be easy from the first chapter when Susannah's awful aunt enters the scene. Poor Susannah has to act as she sees fit in the face of blackmail and threat of harm to those she loves. I adored this moderate angsty story & Teah's world building is top notch as always!
I loved this story and gobbled it up in a single sitting... romance, intrigue, betrayal... who could ask for more? I, for one, will be dreaming of Jonathan's letter indefinitely.
I received a complimentary copy of the author's story to read and review. All thoughts contained here are my own.
"Pursued Beyond Treachery" is such a beautiful book! Oh how I loved reading! As always, this author describes the Regency-era with clarity and wonderful attention to detail which really brings the setting, characters, and story to life. The characters feel three-dimensional and are so lovable! John and Susannah now feel like good friends of mine. The personal and emotional struggles that the characters face are expressed with such care. This book is thought-provoking, insightful, and enjoyable. John is so sweet! His letter to Susannah is perfect. I couldn't stop smiling! The romance between John and Susannah is sweet, swoony, and emotionally deep! The writing style is smooth, original, and sparkling with wit and emotion. This is another 5 star read from author Teah Kemp Weight! I cannot recommend this book highly enough! Especially if you enjoy reading historical romance with lots of wit, beauty, and emotion.
Thank you very much to the author for the great opportunity of being a part of her ARC Team again and for providing me with a digital copy to read and review honestly.
This series is so much fun! I absolutely love this group of friends and each book gets me more excited for the next!
Jonathan and Susannah have known each other since they were children and unbeknownst to each other, have been harboring deeper feelings. Sometimes you need a nudge in the right direction for progress to be made and when Lord and Lady Stanford issue an invitation to host Susannah for a season in London, this is just the push Jonathan needs. But things never go as easy as one would wish…
There is a lot of back and forth and blindness when it comes to these two 😂. But as the story unfolds and schemes come to light, our characters finally realize what has been staring them in the face for so long and what a happy ending it is! I enjoyed this book and really loved getting to know all of our cast of characters better. I’m looking forward to more to come!
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Teah Kemp Weight has done it again. She's given us another fabulous no-spice regency romance book! 📚 Pursued Beyond Treachery is a book about Susannah Wayland. Miss Wayland is in love with John who she believes only sees her as his pseudo younger sister. So of course when she's given the chance to have a London season she jumps at the opportunity to prove she's no longer a child. Little does she know Lord Johnathon Newhurst is already head over heels for Susannah. The problem is he has a stutter and crippling social anxiety, so he can't seem to get the right words to leave his mouth. 📚 I loved reading the second book in the Harrowed Hearts series. I loved watching the main characters grow as individuals and FINALLY as a couple. 😉 📚 I was given this book as an ARC by the author. All thoughts am opinions are my own. This book will be released on April 1, 2025. 📚 #nospiceromance #regencyromance #regency #schemingaunt #socialanxiety #harrowedhearts
A delightful regency romance! This series is truly a gem and the second book confirms it! Susannah and John have been friends for years, and they both rely on that friendship strongly. John struggles when it comes to conversing with women and has felt more tongue tied around Susannah ever since his return to England to discover that his childhood friend had become a beautiful young woman. Susannah finds herself in an unexpected opportunity when a friend offers to host her for a London season.
I loved the way Susannah and John were always there for each other. Their friendship was based on true respect and knowledge of each other and that led so beautifully into the love between them. There was such a strong and organic connection between them and I loved it!
It was so much fun to see characters we met in the first book as well and get to know the friend group more. I really can’t wait for the rest of the series!
Thank you to the author for an arc copy. All thoughts are my own.
This is the second book of the Harrowed Hearts series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the first. The story is about Susannah and John who have been friends since childhood. When John comes home from his tour of the continent, he realizes what a beautiful young woman Susannah has become. He always liked her sweet demeanor, her caring heart and her ability to liven up a conversation. John has struggled with a speech impediment, so he appreciates when Susannah can jump in and fill the words he can’t find. This story really takes off when Susannah goes to London for her season. There are many twists and turns, betrayal and deceit, with sweet tender moments. But when other gentlemen pay attention to Susannah, John was beside himself. Pick up this intriguing story to find out who wins Susannah’s hand and enjoy the wild ride.
OH. MY. GOODNESS. This was such a good read! I adore John. He is so charming and sweet. It was hard watching this poor man pine after Susannah (worse, knowing she secretly loved him too!). And let me tell you, the pining was DEEP. Teah has just outdone herself with this one, especially with the emotional depth. And not just between the main characters. The character growth was so well done. The villains were hate-worthy villainous. And to top it off, that swoony moment at the end that I am not going to spoil. You'll have to take my word for it. This book was just the whole enchilada. I am so invested in these characters and cannot wait for the next book. I need them all to get their HEAs. Excellent, highly recommended read
I love a good friends to more romance and the author adds in some good secondary threads to help carry the story through. The hero is endearingly shy and suffers from a stutter around beautiful women. Hence why he struggles to speak to the heroine! And she doesn't know what to think or why he's suddenly stopped talking to her after years of friendship. A charming couple.
I also loved the secondary characters. They added to the story, made it richer and deeper without taking away from the main couple. Even though I haven't read book 1. This still worked.
This is a clean and wholesome story. Well worth the read.
This clean, regency era story was beautifully told from both main characters perspectives - what angst, affection, longing, affliction and beautiful outfits were presented to the reader!
Loved both main characters whose character development is a joy to watch and meeting the friendship group again was special as the reader joins in with the ups and downs of their lives.
Highly recommended!
Received this as an Advanced reader copy. These are all my own opinions given voluntarily.
I will never stop raving over Teah Kemp Weight’s books. We all have those authors that if you ask us about their books, we could talk for hours and hours about our love for their stories. Teah Kemp Weight is one of those authors for me. Pursued Beyond Treachery was my fourth book by this author, and I’m still astounded by just how amazing her books truly are. From the moment you read the first sentence to when you are forced to say goodbye to the story as you read the last sentence, you will be transported into a story filled with everything you love in a book you want to give a million stars to.
One of the many things I love about this series is how Teah Kemp Weight makes you excited for the rest of the books in this series by showing so much of the characters that (fingers crossed) will have their own book. Instead of just focusing only on the main couple, we get to see hints and interactions from the other characters that will have you counting down the days until the next book in the series releases. I think the friendships between the characters are my favorite part of the story. I love the found family trope so much, and Teah Kemp Weight writes the trope so well. You’ll get attached to the characters so much in this series.
The romance. Susannah and John were such a sweet couple to read about. I loved reading how, after loving each other from a distance for so long, they were finally able to admit their feelings for one another. Susannah’s character reminded me a lot of myself throughout the story, and I felt so bad for all of the burdens she felt and everything her aunt put her through. John. I loved his character so much. It broke my heart how his shyness and fear of her not loving him in return made him believe that he’d never get the happy ending with her that he dreamed about.
If you love friends-to-lovers, found family, and just a story to make you smile and warm your heart, PLEASE read this one. This series is one of my all-time favorites, and I’m sure you’ll love it too!
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
The intricacies of each series from this author just astound me. The way she weaves the characters together into a community that, as her reader, you cannot help but feel invested/connected to deeply. It’s masterful and classical in its ability to display both the art of writing and the joy of reading.
— *Do you need to have read book 1 for this book to be enjoyable? No. But it helps.
Book 2 of this series follows the London season of Miss Susannah Wayland, the younger lady from a neighboring estate to Nathaniel and Melinor that John is utterly devoted to…but can’t seem to tell her.
During this season we learn the depth of John’s speech impediment, his social anxiety, and his absolute love for Susannah. We also learn the full scope of Susannah and her family, having only met her briefly in the first book and experiencing loss with her at the end of the novel.
This season is filled with frustrations of society, treacherous deception from those around her, and so much more…but it never failed to amaze me how much we get of everyone off to the side, it’s beautiful. There is a tragic event that takes place that had me bawling for bravery of the women of the time, the way we are left to be our own vocal advocates and how exhausting that is. I am also 100% here for the next book…but is it Eddy and Livy or Al and Javenia?!
Amazing, wonderful characters! I love these characters! I can’t wait to read the rest of their stories. This can be read entirely as a stand alone but I love that previous interesting characters reappear. There’s a lot going on between all the characters and the story is very well woven, very engrossing. This is a story of personal growth, and loving friends and family. I loved it!
Slowest burn I’ve read in a long time. Like think of a slow burn and then slow it down even more. I was very stressed out. I read the first one yesterday and the way the author writes about their feelings etc really drew me in and as much as I was stressed I couldn’t stop either. So like … 3 stars for plot but 5 stars for character development so 4 it is.
This book is so, so lovely. I love these characters and how real their experiences felt. Lots of heartache and pain, but also very real connection and friendship. Teah Kemp Weight is definitely on my auto-read list now!
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Now available! Pursued Beyond Treachery Was a great story with lots of depth. There were some trigger warnings such as miscarriage. I enjoyed this clean regency romance of friends to more and give it 4 stars!

This story was full of tension and made a wonderful book to enjoy! I loved the clean, uplifting romance and the character growth that occurred throughout the story. The inclusion of a main character with an impediment made it all the more cherished!
What a delightful story and wonderful characters. Very well crafted and attentive to the details thst make it so alive and memorable. Looking forward to more !
