Great start to learning music theory. I only have cursory knowledge on the subject but this book put a ton in perspective for me. I am a self-taught, youtube learner so you can imagine the separate pieces of knowledge I accrued over the years. This book brought it all together with tons of new information for me. Had quite a bit of a-ha moments. Some of it is still foreign to me but practice will make it better (I know: practice, practice, practice...then practice some more; 10,000 hours here I come!).
This book taught many aspects of music theory from the basics of time signatures and note values to more advanced topics such as modes and transposition. Though the book did not teach about articulations and symbols, this book is great for getting beginners quickly up to speed with the fundamentals of music theory.
Readable and straightforward. This book is a good refresher or introduction to music theory. It is helpful to have a piano or keyboard nearby while reading.
