The Valentine's Bet

Rate this book
What happens when a hopeful romantic bets a grumpy skeptic that love really exists?

Now that I’ve landed my dream job in NYC, I’m finally ready to find Mr. Right.

What better way to meet new people in a big city than a speed dating event?

Or so I thought—until I got stuck with the biggest cynic in the room.

Parker’s disdain for love drives me crazy, yet there’s something about his icy blue-green eyes that draws me in.

Determined to prove to him that love exists, I find myself betting him that I can find a boyfriend by Valentine’s Day.

Yet somehow, every cringe-worthy date I endure ends with Parker swooping in to rescue me.

As our rivalry evolves into an unexpected friendship, I catch glimpses of the caring man hidden beneath his tough facade.

Now, I can’t ignore the flutter in my heart when he’s around.

But is it just the thrill of competition, or is there something deeper brewing between us?

The Valentine’s Bet is a closed-door, grumpy sunshine romcom. It’s an interconnected standalone to Kristine W. Joy’s The Friendly Fall.

Cute valentines read, no spice no swearing. And you got to see their wedding and her finding out she’s pregnant I love when books have the “one year later” at the end of the book.

Also Amy just had like a bad men magnet on her like oh my gosh how do you date so many gross men BUT my man Parker came to the rescue every timeee. We was so protective of her sometimes where it was a bit much like bro let her date people.

ALSO I want a book of Parker’s sister and Weston’s love story

CONTENT
-🤬: some crude language (d-bag)
-❤️: some innuendo, makeouts (with tongue mentioned)
-⚠️: none

After moving to NYC for her new job, Amy is ready to mingle. She's 29, never been kissed, and now that her career is where she'd like it, she wants to focus on finding her person. To do that, she starts attending a bunch of different events for singles. At her first speed dating activity, she meets Parker, a vocal cynic. They keep running into each other at different events and around the city. Parker and Amy strike up a bet that hinges upon Amy's dating status by Valentine's Day, which also happens to be her 30th birthday. I wonder who Amy could end up with... ;)

In it, you'll find:
-a bet
-opposites attract
-caretaking
-temporary roommates
-cameos of Eliza & Nick from The Friendly Fall

I will say that I felt like Amy was so DUMB for 29 years old. Her inability to read social situations with guys and her inability to recognize a red flag had me thinking she was an idiot. So there's that. I'm glad that she came to the realization of her feelings for Parker, and that it all worked out, but sheesh, her journey was rough.

Favorite Quote:
❤️ "But promise me you won't ever get so caught up in searching for the big, grand gestures that you miss the little things. Sometimes, love doesn't come in big ways on a white horse. It's not always someone taking your breath away the moment you meet them. Sometimes, love is in the small, everyday things. Sometimes the little things are the most special."

“Sometimes, love is in the small, everyday things.”

Parker and Amy have such a cute story. Brand new to NYC, bubbly Amy immerses herself in the singles scene and immediately meets cynic Parker–a handsome, mysterious man with an ultra grumpy vibe. As they constantly run into one another, a tenuous friendship begins to form and Parker grudgingly helps Amy fulfill her dating and love goals.

I loved all the city vibes found in these pages. The sparks of attraction and chemistry-laden kiss gave this one such a swoony and joyful feel, even if things were firmly planted in the friend-zone. Every date and singles event added to my dreamy impressions and it was so much fun to see the glimpses of Eliza from “The Friendly Fall.”

Sweet and scrumptious, this one hit the spot for the hopeless romantic in me.

Content: mild romance (slow burn, light innuendo)

This was a sweet, opposites attract, friends to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, dual POV romcom set in NYC in the weeks leading up to Valentine's day. New to the city, Amy is determined to get her first kiss and find a boyfriend by Valentine's Day. What she didn't expect was to meet romantic cynic, Parker at a singles mixer and make a bet proving she'll be able to do it. While Parker grew up witnessing the toxic effects of his dysfunctional, divorced parents and doesn't believe he'll ever find true love, Amy experienced the opposite and is still a believer. With forced proximity, lots of cute encounters and dates, some secret pining and a big grand gesture ending, this was the perfect read for Valentine's day. It was also quick and would be perfect for fans of authors like Sarah Adams or Melanie Jacobson.

Can I give this one infinity stars?! I really loved this book and it is the perfect read for Valentine's Day! This book definitely gave me all the feels! I loved the focus on singles meetings and speed dating. Such a fun, unique plot!

The author developed these characters so well. And they were such a wonderful grumpy/sunshine pairing! Parker was such a cynic but you can see deep down how he was drawn to Amy. I loved them together so much! They also had great opposites attract vibes. Loved Parker's protective nature. Amy really set him on edge in the best way and I loved watching that dynamic unfold. And that first kiss... 🔥🔥!! I loved how the never been kissed trope played into the story. Really enjoyed how Parker's protective side played into some dating education he gave her. So cute!

I really loved this romantic and fun story! I hope the author expands this world and makes it a series because I would love to read Weston's story. Kristine W. Joy did such a great job with this one and she really knows how to write those protective, but romantic MCs!

The Valentine's Bet is the perfect grumpy-sunshine romcom to kick off 2025! Amy, a hopeless romantic, moves to New York City ready to chase her dream job and find true love. Her bright, bubbly personality is infectious-she's the type to light up a room-but her inexperience in the dating world makes her journey both hilarious and heartwarming. Enter Parker: handsome, successful, and utterly cynical about love. Parker doesn't do relationships, yet he can't seem to avoid crossing paths with Amy. Their initial meeting at a singles event is anything but smooth. Amy's relentless optimism clashes spectacularly with Parker's gruff, no-nonsense demeanor.

Despite their differences, or maybe because of them, their story becomes addictive. Amy's tendency to overlook red flags lands her in a few tricky situations, and Parker-though reluctant-often steps in to help. Watching their dynamic shift from mild antagonism to genuine friendship was delightful. Their witty banter and the classic grumpy-sunshine trope kept me hooked. The added element of a bet—that Amy can find love by Valentine's Day-raises the stakes and keeps the tension simmering.

As the story unfolds, Parker's tough exterior begins to crack. Learning about his past and watching him gradually open up to Amy made his transformation so satisfying. Their slow-build connection feels real and earned, and I found myself rooting for them every step of the way.

One of my favorite surprises was seeing Eliza and Nick from The Friendly Fall, another fantastic book by Kristine W. Joy, make an appearance. I loved how they played a part in Amy's journey, and their inclusion added an extra layer of charm for fans of Joy's work.

If you're looking for a fun, feel-good romance with lovable characters, heartwarming growth, and just the right amount of angst, The Valentine's Bet is a must-read. I devoured it in one sitting and couldn't put it down. It's a perfect choice for Valentine's season or anytime you're craving a sweet and entertaining love story!

You must read the epilogue and extended epilogue! I love that we get a peek into their future lives!

I might have shed a cheer reading this book! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and know you will too!

Thank you to the author for this advanced readers copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own and I’m happy to share them with you.

THE VALENTINE’S BET
by: Kristine W. Joy
@kristinewjoy

~Determined to prove that love exists, Amy finds herself betting a grumpy cynic that she can find a boyfriend by Valentine’s Day…

“I think, deep down, we all have the desire to find love.
Whether you care to admit it or not.”

-The Valentine’s Bet is a fast paced closed-door, grumpy sunshine romcom with fun banter, humor, and is told in a dual point of view. The main characters both are coming from two different places and have different views about what love is, yet through the course of this story, both flawed and relatable characters are able to bring out the best in one another as they experiencd the journey of seeing first hand, if love is worth the risk of heartbreak, and how to heal from wounds in the past. I really liked how there was such an emphasis on the importance of “seeing the flaws and shortcomings in someone and loving them anyway. People aren’t perfect. You’ve just gotta find someone that you can forgive for not being perfect all the time and love regardless.” Isn’t that truth? Watching the main characters realize this and their character growth along the way was my favorite. Granted, there are mishaps and struggles along the way, yet love and what does matter shines through in this story! This is an enjoyable story to read!📚☺️🩷

“Just because your history is explosive with heartache doesn’t mean your future has to be.”

-Content: some mild innuendo-kissing:makeouts (with tongue), some crude language (d-bag), childhood-family dynamics-past trauma of parents’ relationship being toxic which leads in divorce, some drinking.

“Sometimes, love is in the small, everyday things. Sometimes the little things are the most special.”

While not part of a series, The Valentine's Bet is connected to The Friendly Fall (Amy is Eliza's best friend) and those who have read that will enjoy seeing some familiar characters. It can still absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone as well.

Kristine W. Joy has once again knocked it out of the park with this cute romcom! Amy is a hopeless romantic who has just moved to New York City and is eager to find her true love--- despite her inexperience in that area. She meets Parker at a speed dating event that he was reluctantly dragged to and he's her total opposite--- a total cynic about love. Right away, the chemistry between these two is absolutely fantastic as was their banter... he may be a cynic (with good reason as we discover throughout the story), but he can't help but find himself being drawn to Amy's light or rescuing her from bad dates. These two just brought me so much joy with every interaction... that first kiss? Oh my goodness, so good! This was such a sweet and swoon worthy read... perfect for January/February reading (or anytime, honestly!). I loved it.

The Valentine's Bet is a closed-door romance with kisses only.

The Valentine's Bet is the perfect grumpy-sunshine romcom to kick off 2025! Kristine W. Joy delivers a heartwarming, funny, and swoon-worthy story that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day—or any time of year.

Amy, a 29-year-old hopeless romantic, moves to New York City full of optimism, ready to find love and chase her dreams. Enter Parker, a handsome but love-cynical New Yorker who crosses paths with her at a singles event. Their banter is sharp, their chemistry undeniable, and their journey from mild antagonism to heartfelt romance is irresistible.

Amy’s trusting nature and Parker’s guarded heart create plenty of laughs and tender moments, especially as Parker begins to open up. Their slow-burn relationship feels real and earned, with swoon-worthy scenes (that first kiss! 🥰) and a great dual POV narrative.

Fans of The Friendly Fall will enjoy a cameo from Eliza and Nick, adding a delightful layer for longtime readers. As an ARC reader for The Friendly Fall, it was such a treat to see them play a role in Amy’s story!! (Not connected but when the books are this good why not read both!?)

Packed with romance, humor, and just the right touch of seriousness, The Valentine’s Bet is a charming Rom Com read that will leave you giggling and kicking your feet! ☺️

This is the second book I've read by Kristine W. Joy, and I'm excited to check out more. The Valentine's Bet had me laughing, cringing at some awkward moments, and feeling every bit of the sweet romance.

This charming romantic comedy features two relatable characters navigating life while making several mistakes. Amy and Parker meet at a speed dating event. Their dynamic perfectly captures the grumpy/sunshine trope. Amy is searching for true love but struggles to find it. Parker, on the other hand, is skeptical about love and does everything to avoid it. He comes off as grumpy, while Amy believes he dislikes her. The author skillfully brings them together through various dating encounters, making it enjoyable to see their relationship develop.

I loved the moments of fake dates, lessons on red flags, playful banter, texts, an explosive first kiss, ice skating mishaps, and, of course, the Valentine's bet.

This journey to love was a joy to read. The story flows smoothly, filled with humor, flirting, and romance. If you're after a fun and uplifting read, The Valentine's Bet is perfect for your Valentine's Day lineup.

It should come as no surprise that I LOVED this book by Kristine. She was my favorite author of 2024 and it looks like she’s on a great start for 2025. The story between Amy & Parker was not only sweet, but full of deep feelings and healing. As a child of divorce myself, it was nice to see the struggle left behind for children of divorce. If divorce is a sensitive topic for you, this book may be a little heavy for you, but I think it helps bring a beautiful perspective on the healing journey it can take.

I suggest reading “The Friendly Fall” before this book! Although, they are perfect standalones, I think it would make your heart more complete to read that one first. 💘

There was a moment in the book where I wasn’t crazy about Amy’s desperation for love, but I think she was honestly just naive and needed to learn that red flags do exist.

Main Tropes:
🍎 NYC life
🌃 enemies to love
🍎 dual POV
🌃 grand gesture
🍎 epilogue & bonus epilogue included
🌃 Valentine’s Day duh
🍎 searching for love

Content Warning:

⚠️ mentions of childhood trauma from parental toxicity and divorce

Wow, what a nice rom-com to start the year with. I totally feel Eliza, wanting a boyfriend and being loved is not something weird. Parker just had some major trauma.

I really liked their bet and how Parker never deliberately messed up Eliza's, he actually just wanted the best for her.

Their romance was a simmering slow burn, with both of them repressing their feelings for different reasons.

Thank you Kristine W. Joy for the e-ARC. All thoughts are my own.

The Valentine’s Bet
A Novel Written By Kristine W. Joy
Fiction - Romance
Published January 16
308 Pages
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the sweetest closed door rom-com. The author’s writing grabbed my attention from the very first page. The two main characters were so easy to like and root for. This is the perfect book for Valentine’s Day!

Amy Gibson has moved to New York City from Chicago. She has a new job living in a new city. She has been so career minded, she hasn’t put much time or effort in finding romance. Once settled in her new city, she emerges herself in New York’s single scene. She is looking for love and tired of being alone.

Enter Parker Harris, a senior software engineer. He meets Amy at one of the first single events she attends. Parker is the opposite of Amy. He is cynical and anti-love. He quickly admits to Amy that he only attends these single events to support his friend Weston.

Amy makes a bet with Parker that she will have a boyfriend by Valentine’s Day. Parker bets her that she won’t. Will Amy finally find love? Is Parker hoping she doesn’t so he can win the bet, or has he started to have feelings her?

I loved Amy’s cheerful optimistic outlook. On her first night settling into her new life, new apartment, new job, in the the big city she is determined to go out and make progress on reaching her life goals of finding her soulmate. So off to speed dating she goes, by herself, in a new city. She has so much gumption and determination I just loved her character. Enter the grump of the story Parker who is determined to be the rain cloud at every dating event his friend forces him to go on. I love a good grump story. Parker puts out the hard candy shell with soft mushy interior vibes. I love how from the first moment he met her he just fixated on her. Of course he claimed it was because her sunny disposition annoyed him, but she was the Ying to his Yang. I love the banter. I love their friendship. I love seeing him be there when she needs him. I loved her first kiss. Don’t even get me started on the grand gesture at the end. Talk about swoon! This was just a great great book to read. It’s something I will definitely read again later this year.

This was easy one of my favorite reads so far this year. The Valentine’s Bet by @kristinewjoy was an absolute joy.

Amy is a hopeless romantic and Parker has a major disdain for love. They couldn’t have been more opposite but they worked really well together. The speed dating events at times were a bit much but the story was still enjoyable.

I would love to get a book for Parker’s dad and Susie and one for Weston and Brittany.

Thank you @kristinewjoy for allowing me to receive an ARC to read and review.

“I’ll find love,” she says, looking up at me. “I know I will.” I tap the table. “Well, good luck with that, Amy. This city eats women like you alive. Don’t try too hard.”

“I’ll pick up her tab,” Parker says as he stands to his feet. “Put it on Parker Harris.” “I can pay for my own food, thanks,” I snap, furrowing my brow. The waiter looks to Parker for an answer. “Nah, just put it on my tab. All of it.” He gives me a sly grin. “Good luck, Amy. Maybe the fourth time’s a charm? But I wouldn’t bet on it.”

“If you don’t, you’ll regret it. And personally, I think the regret of a love never explored is much more painful than that of a love lost.”

This book came this close to being a hate read for me. Amy is so unbelievable. Really, you’re almost 30 and have never been kissed? I find that so hard to believe. I get not being with a man until this age but a kiss???? And Parker is kind of a jerk about love. I get that his toxic, traumatic past gave him a warped view of relationships and love but quit being so down with love to others.

Amy is stupidly naive about men. Again, I question how she got to being 30 and is so blind to how to flirt, interact, and just date. It’s annoying for her to “miss” so many red flags. She reeks of desperation. And Parker rescuing her every time feels a bit stalkerish and creepy. The scene where Parker is waiting outside his building for Amy to come back from a date with Dalton? Nope. If I were Dalton between Parker stalking Amy and Amy saying she’s got a bet to find a boyfriend by Valentine’s Day, I would have peaced out at that point.

Even though I did read the whole book, not sure I can recommend it.

Review:
Awww….this strangers to enemies to friends to lovers is just so sweet and lovable. Haha… loving that he is such a gentleman towards her. He is also protective of her too though they meeting with each other was kind of not quite a good term. But as they get to know each other they became friends and him also showing signs that he cares for her but denies it. He is always there for her and she appreciates it because she is new in the city and doesn’t know where to go and she wants to find love as she never been in a relationship before. He even helps her to be aware of red flags and protects her when he feels that the guy is no good and also warn her about them. They opened up to each other and spend time together. Loving their bickering and flirting and their moments together going on speed dating and other dating event and also the bet which the loser have to get something for the winner. And thanks to their friends too. They make them realised their what are their feelings though they are in denial especially Parker, oh well he has a reason for it (can’t spoil too much you will have to read it).

This book made me blush so much, swoon, smile, laugh and sometimes sad because it is hard to find a love that will end up in marriage nowadays but there is, it’s just is hard. I can really relate to Amy since I never had a relationship before in my life but I really want to have it too.

I was gifted complimentary ARC. All opinions are my own. Thanks @kristinewjoy for the ARC.

Reader’s Notes:

– this is connected to The Friendly Fall, but it doesn’t need to be read to enjoy this story (the female main characters of both books are best friends)

– this is told from Amy & Parker’s points of view

– it is mentioned that the kisses included tongue

-it is mentioned that a character’s parents were toxic when together & serial daters since having divorced (during the character’s childhood & up to now)

-there are about 4 uses of the full word for d-bag

Review:

I had a hard time putting this one down! I loved the complete opposite thoughts on love that Amy & Parker had and that they kept meeting despite that. I loved that Parker was unwillingly dragged to various dating events over the course of the story and seeing when his focus changed onto Amy while she still thought he wasn’t interested. I loved that Amy was a hopeless romantic but overall kept pushing through to try and find the person for her, even after the heartbreaking setbacks of horrible guys she’d meet. I loved Amy & Parker’s New Year’s moment and how things really began snowballing from there. I loved that both of their friends could tell that their friend (whether it was Amy or Parker) was clearly falling for the other person and wanted them to try stepping out to let the other person know.

It made me even more excited to want to read The Friendly Fall soon since I haven’t gotten to it yet!

Summary:

Amy just moved to New York after accepting the job of her dreams, but is beginning to realize just how much time she’s dedicated to work over her dreams for a family some day. Being the hopeless romantic that she is though, Amy isn’t about to settle for anything less than a strong love like her parent’s have. Luckily, the city hosts multiple singles events all the time giving Amy the chance to find not only someone to spend the rest of her life with, but also friends who live in the city. Only, not everyone at these events holds the same hope or desire that she does in finding a match. One such person that she’s happened to meet at the events time and time again is in fact Amy’s complete opposite. Parker doesn’t believe in love and Amy wants to prove him wrong. So they make a bet on if she can get a boyfriend by Valentine’s Day. Amy is determined to win and prove Parker wrong.

Parker doesn’t believe in love after seeing how it didn’t exist in his family. If it were up to him, he’d never go to a singles event as he’s happy with how his life is. But his best friend somehow convinced him to be his wingman and keeps dragging him to events anyways. That’s where Parker meets Amy, a woman so enthusiastic with the idea of finding love that Parker can’t help watching for the inevitable train wreck that’s bound to happen. And when they form a bet on if she’ll get a boyfriend by Valentine’s Day, Parker gets a closer look at the competition. And he’s not sure what he thinks he’s doing when it comes to Amy…

🔥🔥🔥

Amy is our main character and she’s built a great career but she’s thirty, new to NYC and so badly wants to find love. So badly in fact, that she consistently overlooks the red flags flying high in all of her singles mixer matches.

Parker has seen what chasing love can do to a person in his own family, and his cynicism for it makes him come across as a real grump. Still, as his best friends wingman, he meets Amy at a singles mixer.

I loved this book so much and completely related to Amy in her quest for love. There are times you want to yell at her for her naivety, but I think it’s all too common that we blind ourselves to things we of course shouldn’t miss just because we want to feel love (not that that’s healthy, just that that’s true). I also really loved that Parker was a grump without being mean to her. This I’m sure was difficult to write but it was written so well and a joy (pun intended 😉) to read!

I accidentally read it before The Friendly Fall, Baldwin’s first book in this series, but it held up as a standalone just fine. There are just some spoilers reading it before book 1 though so maybe go read that one first. It’s definitely on my TBR now that I know I love Joy’s writing style. Anyways, read if you love:

☕️ Cynical MMC who’s protective of his own heart, but also of the FMC’s
☕️ Incredibly naive FMC who’s never been kissed but is set on finding love in the big apple
☕️ Best friend cameo from The Friendly Fall who wants to protect her bestie but also wants to make sure she’s giving love a chance
☕️ A bet on love
☕️ Forced proximity
☕️ Dating lessons except less how you’re thinking where it lasts the whole book & more like that episode of New Girl where Jess tries Dice and Schmidt breaks out the taboo buzzer to help her learn how to spot red flags 😂
☕️ Closed door as always!

CW: Mild cursing (I believe d-bag is the only word), lots of men with red flags (some generally red and some horrible), and family trauma.

I read this as one of my Valentine’s reads and it was honestly better than I thought it’d be. It can be read as a standalone (which is what I did), but it does have a small throwback to another book (one I didn’t read) in here. It made me smile and also thank the Lord that I am NOT single. I don’t know how I would survive in the dating world if I constantly ran into men who acted like they do in here. It seemed everyone but the MML was a horrible person or a creep.

Quick summary (spoilers below):

Amy just moved to NYC and knows no one. She a very positive girl who’s looking for love and she decides to do this by going to speed dating events around the city. There she meets Parker who is very against these events but is dragged there over and over again by his best friend. He doesn’t really believe in love since he hasn’t really ever had good experiences. Amy immediately catches Parker’s attention because of how hopeful and desperate she looks. He ends up feeling the need to warn her that the city will chew her up and spit her out. To say they don’t get off on the right foot is an understatement. However, she continues to go to the events, and they continue to run into each other. They eventually form a friendship, and they make a bet that she will have a boyfriend by Valentines Day. If she wins, he buys her and her new boyfriend tickets to a concert and if he wins, she buys him tickets to a jazz concert and goes with him.

Over the passing weeks she attends the speed dating events dragging Parker to most of them with her. All the guys she ends up talking to are terrible people and Parker realizes this right away. After a horrible date Amy goes home to find her apartment flooded and ends up calling Parker for help. She ends up staying with him and they start to become closer. He starts to teach her how to see the red flags that a guy is showing so that she stops ending up with losers. However, they start to become attracted to each other, but since Parker doesn’t do relationships she continues to search for a boyfriend. Eventually she ends up finding a nice guy, but because of Parker’s jealousy he ends up ruining the relationship. He realizes that he has feelings for Amy and sets out to make her his girlfriend. In the end they end up together and we get a wedding and then a year later a pregnancy.

I enjoyed this book! Amy and Parker had some fun banter. Amy wanted to fall in love and did everything she could to find someone. Which is how Parker felt drawn to her from the start and decided to protect her from all the red flags, all while denying how he felt for her.

Things I loved about this book:
-how Parker was able to reconcile some of his issues about love and relationships.
-how Weston keeps dragging Parker to singles events
-Weston and Parker’s sisters sideline story.
-Eliza from The Friendly Fall and her phone calls!

Favorite Quotes:
“Can you really not stare at her? Like, come on, Parker.” “I wasn’t staring,” I argue and look at my best friend, who’s got an eyebrow raised at me. “I wasn’t,” I say again. “Yeah, okay. Well, I’m just saying that you seriously drool over her the moment she walks into a room. It’s so obvious.” “I told you, it’s not like that. It’s just like watching a car wreck, remember?” He snorts. “Okay. You just keep telling yourself that, but I know good and well what a man looks like when he’s checking a woman out.” “I’m not doing that.” Though I catch myself stealing another glance in Amy’s direction, noting how nice she looks in her bootie heels.

“Not really. I mean, everyone fights. My parents fought, but I don’t remember what it was about—and they rarely argued in front of me. They’ve been together for almost thirty-seven years.” My stomach knots up. “That’s a long time to put up with someone.” “They just kept choosing to love each other.” “I’m sure there were moments they didn’t.” My words sound more bitter than intended. But maybe that’s because I’m bitter. Considering my parents were never able to resolve their differences, we’re all still suffering the consequences today. Amy makes a face. “Maybe. But then they chose to forgive each other. I don’t think it’s all that complicated to make something last. You just have to keep choosing each other, no matter how you feel.”

The female main character, Amy, has never been kissed. I knew I was going to like this one from the first few pages as I learned more about Amy. She has just been hired for her dream job in New York City. She is looking for love and thinks she should be able to find her perfect man in a city of millions. She decides the fastest way to find her perfect mate is through speed dating, which is how she meets Mr. Grumpy Pants a/k/a Parker. (I could not help but think of the song "Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places".)

Parker has a jaded view of romance and/or relationships. As you learn more about Parker's past, you will more fully appreciate his general bad attitude. But for all of his grumpiness, he still keeps allowing his friend to strong arm him into attending these speed dating events. Whether he wants to admit it or not, Amy makes an impression on him.

These two just keep meeting up, and even though they are total opposites, you can feel the sparks flying off of the page. I fell in love with Parker the first time he swooped in and rescued Amy from a man who had bad intentions for her. When they enter a bet together, the stage is set for the perfect romcom.

This was such a delight in every way with romance, comedy and some seriousness mixed into the story. Some might say that Amy was a little gullible, but I think she just wanted to fall in love so badly that she was blind to red flags. She may be a little older, but she was also a trusting soul. Parker, on the other hand, immediately spotted red flags, but I think his cynicism about relationships made him more hyper aware of these things.

This was a perfect Valentines romance/read. I found myself cheering for both characters as they battled their own insecurities.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

She has her dream job in NYC . Now she’s ready for love you see. So ifs or maybes ,she longs to feel love. She’s twenty nine . Her body clock is running out of time . So a speed dating event she can think of nothing better than that. Until she meets Mr grumpy guts Parker ,the biggest cynic in the room has her falling flat. All doom and gloom. And her plans go splat! Parker’s distain has her not quite engaging her brain as she makes him a Valentine’s Bet to find herself a boyfriend by St. Valentine’s Day….Oh fey! Is she insane?! Ironically,he’s there to catch her when she doesn’t fall as she should because each of her prospective suitors are more than droll but crud. The caring man he is shines through in everything he does for you she thinks to herself . His facade is uncovered and a gentleman discovered.Shes socially inept and he’s adept ,her thirty birthday is on the horizon so there’s no surprising she’s in a hurry to feel true love’s flurry and real feels. Parker proves he’s more than a grump , he’s quite a caring man and not a chump. He’s quite sweet and as he shares his past ,she thinks she found the one at last. Or is it just the sands that fall from her hourglass of time that has her thinking that he’s so sublime? She’s never been kissed and the more she depends on this wonderful man she wants his kisses and more. Just maybe he’s her cure the one she’s been looking for. …. Oh my goodness ,I loved this so much! It’s slow burn but has the human touch. The feelings are slow burnbut soon turn into a deep and meaningful yearn for the pair. He’s shown he is worthy of her love in the truest form, keeping her safe and secure from harm. So it’s in his arms she wants to be she’s found her groove and it’s heavenly. Just goes to prove. True love finds a way to have its day . Lovely! A wonderful read, I enjoyed it thoroughly indeed.
