Hi, I'm Gina Homolka, author, photographer and recipe developer of Skinnytaste.com which features delicious, healthy, low fat, family-friendly recipes several times per week and Skinny Bits, where I answer cooking questions, health tips, reviews and giveaways.
What originally began in 2008 as an idea to marry my two passions, great food and beautiful photography, Skinnytaste was born and has developed into a highly rewarding labor of love reaching over 3 million unique visitors monthly.
At Skinnytaste.com, you'll find healthy dishes that don't sacrifice any of the flavor that can be found in their full-fat origins. My creations must be both "skinny" and "tasty" because after all, this is the same food I cook on a daily basis for friends and family, and they are some of my toughest critics!
Raised on Long Island, I'm a busy mom of two girls, and I currently reside in Oceanside, NY with my husband and children.
My food philosophy is to eat seasonal, clean, whole foods and maintain good portion control. When you cook your own meals, you know you can feel good about what is going into your body. Let me help you navigate your way around the kitchen and teach you how to prepare delicious, light, fresh meals your whole family will love (and they won't even realize it's good for them!)
Exercise + a well balanced diet + good sleep = a happy life.
I'm also a huge advocate of Weight Watchers because of their “everything in moderation” approach.
Not bad but I feel like all of her recipes are the same between cookbooks. If you told me they were just normal recipes she’s already had online but she added more protein elements, I’d believe it. I definitely added some to my meal plan for the week and hopefully they deliver, but absolutely nothing groundbreaking.
I’ve been a fan of Gina Homolka, and Skinnytaste, for many years. So I was excited to add this new addition to my cookbook collection, and start rotating new recipes into my meal planning. {for reference, family consists of all adult members}
Sadly, this cookbook has been a letdown. The four to five recipes I made for my family were not ones worth repeating. The meals seemed a little bland, lacking in the usual flavor of previous Skinnytaste recipes. While the ingredients were easy to find, the combinations didn’t mesh well for us.
On a plus, I did enjoy the picture index of the recipes, in the beginning of the book, and how sample meal plans are shown.
You may have a different experience than me.. my recommendation, borrow from the library and give it a trial run before purchasing.
I’m loving it. I love the pictured recipe list index in the front of the book. There’s lots of good information about getting your protein in and why it matters included that I thought was helpful. There are so many recipes I can’t wait to make. They all look delicious and not hard. Sometimes I just want a quick win and thankfully there are some included like the choose your adventure protein sheet pan bake, some smoothies and more. I think the snacking with purpose section will be super helpful to me as well. I’m excited.
I love Skinnytaste recipes and cookbooks. I preordered this one in early summer. I was a little skeptical about what might be included in the collection, but it all sounds wonderful. I’ve made three meals from it so far and they’ve all been a hit! Can’t wait to try more and add it to my cookbook collection.
Another great Skinnytaste cookbook! I especially appreciate the “Mighty Meatless Meals” chapter and the “Savor the Sea” chapter. Lots of tempting recipes that I cannot wait to try.
The introduction shows us the reason why protein is so important. The protein calculator is helpful, too. Skinnytaste High Protein: 100 Healthy, Simple Recipes to Fuel Your Day is a must on healthful minded cooks who want recipes that are low in calories, but high in protein. Deliciousness is a plus, for sure!
For a regular cookbook I’d give this 3 stars, but for a high protein, low carb cookbook this is 4 stars. It was written with a registered dietitian. There are photos of all recipes. Some recipes I’ll change. I’ll make the deconstructed fried rice back into regular fried rice. I’ll chiffinade the collard green or kale for the collard green wrap and make it into a spring roll. I’ll add some julienned carrots & sliced celery to the Buffalo chicken rice (use white if you don’t like brown) & drizzle on some blue cheese or ranch dressing. And I’ll deconstruct the one pot Fiesta Chicken & Rice. Overall, I was fairly impressed, especially since every recipe doesn’t have cottage cheese in it (some do). There’s even a vegetarian chapter. A few dessert recipes would have been appreciated.
Another complete knockout! Full nutrition information, I found the salad and chicken recipes to be the biggest hits. These recipes are easy, come together quickly and with things like Marry Me Chicken & Gnocchi and lemon chicken, they are great and the whole family will love them. And they will never need to know they're eating healthy.
There is a photo for every recipe; most are only one page and the instructions are crystal clear. This is a very useful book - I just wish it were bigger.
I am so pleased with this book. The recipes are exciting and innovative and so flexible and adaptable to person taste. Thanks Gina for sharing!!!! I love this book!!! Well done!!
So many great recipes, including one of the best things I've ever eaten: Marry Me Chicken and Gnocchi. A handful of "filler" recipes (i.e. no-brainer as being high-protein and don't really need a recipe for), but still, a great addition to the SkinnyTaste collection.
