Ugh, this was supposed to be a four-star read. It had everything going for it and I was so ready to love it. And then the ending happened.

Why did it feel so rushed? This was slow burn, the tension was built so well and then it just… collapsed at the end. The conflict at the end felt blown out of proportion, and suddenly we’re hit with a one-year time jump. One year. Just like that. Where was the angst? The longing? The emotional fallout I had been waiting for all along? You cannot spend an entire book building my feelings up like that and then skip over the very part that should matter the most.

And then the airport scene…. they meet, and everything is suddenly fine? No real unpacking, no depth to match everything we went through to get there. It felt too easy, and honestly, unearned.

I really did love the story, the characters, the buildup, I liked all of it. But that ending? It fell so flat. I’m just… sad and disappointed because it could have been so much more.

Imagine discovering at 32 that motherhood may not be an option, only to have love surprise you. This book tells the story of Uchenna, a pharmacist and podcaster, whose life is turned upside down by a shocking diagnosis. Just as she's coping, she meets a charismatic billionaire tech entrepreneur who sweeps her off her feet. But beneath his polished facade, Leo harbors a secret that threatens to upend Uchenna's world. As their romance ignites, Uchenna must decide: forgive Leo and fight for their love, or walk away and forge a solo future.
This book is a masterfully woven tale of romance, humor, and resilience, tackling complex themes like second chances, healing, and life-threatening challenges. What struck me most was the portrayal of health issues that affect women in their 20s, which I had previously believed only affected women over 45. This book sparked my curiosity, prompting me to learn more. Ultimately, it reminded me of the remarkable strength and resilience of women, who face numerous challenges yet remain unbroken.
I appreciated how the book explored the vulnerabilities of its characters, delving into themes like societal pressures and self-discovery. The undeniable chemistry between Uchenna and Leo was palpable, making their romance feel genuinely believable. I also enjoyed the story's Nigerian setting, specifically Abuja, which added a unique cultural context. The witty banter and loyal friendships, particularly among Uchenna and her friends, were relatable, entertaining, and heartwarming, showcasing the power of true friendships that withstand life's challenges.
What resonated with me most in this book was its emphasis on healing, communication, and second chances in relationships. Often, people overlook the importance of healing, assuming it's unnecessary because time will heal wounds. However, true relationships involve more than just romance – they require healing, forgiveness, and personal growth. Before entering a relationship, it's crucial to heal and forgive past hurts to avoid inflicting pain on others. Giving second chances doesn't mean tolerating abuse, but rather accepting someone's flaws and working together towards growth. Effective communication is also vital, as partners can't read minds. Open honesty, even if difficult, is essential for building trust and understanding.

It’s 3.5 ⭐️ actually.
In this book, the author takes us on a love story between Uchenna and Leo. This couple is well established in their own fields but they meet each other at a mutual’s wedding where they are serving as bridesmaid and groomsmen and after the initial hesitation, they soon hit it off!
One thing I found fascinating about this book was first, the yearning and the uncertainties that Uchenna and Leo have about the other’s feelings towards them. There are doubts which is just so original for this thing that is growing between them and we all love when our MC is intentional and in love with our FMC.
I enjoyed the taste of a new and fresh love that just gives you this heady feeling.
If there is something this author did well to educate me about, it was perimenopause which was an issue Uchenna struggled with and we see how this has her worried about her future but then there is her man, Leo who is ready to stand by her and help her through this. While we are coasting on the wind of a perfect relationship, the author reminds us that communication still remains an important aspect of every relationship and we see how this plays out when a ghost from the past comes calling.
In all, it is an enjoyable read and seeing as this is the first time I’ll be reading anything by this author, she didn’t disappoint me. You should read this!

This is my first official ARC as a reader. When I received the book, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, I must say that I enjoyed Uchenna and Leo's love story, despite the ups and downs.

The story follows Uchenna, a single woman, pharmacist, and podcast host living in Abuja. While she is trying to get her life back on track after a devastating heartbreak, she receives a diagnosis of a serious ailment. Amidst the chaos in her life, fate introduces her to Leo, a handsome biracial billionaire tech mogul visiting Nigeria for business and pleasure. Leo is not interested in love, a sentiment he has held onto since his college days when his heart was shattered.

As time goes on, Uchenna and Leo begin to warm up to each other, igniting sparks between them. However, as these sparks evolve into flames, they're caught in the web of secrets and long-distance relationship phenomenon, leaving them to fight for their happy ending.

Uchenna and Leo stressed me fr! 😂 They're proud and stubborn, but while Uchenna is extroverted, Leo is the complete opposite. Guess who suffered the most? Leo! And I must admit, I found it somewhat amusing. 😂 But honestly, Leo is a sweet guy. It's just the secret he hid from Uchenna after she had poured out her heart to him—so unfair.

This is a beautiful story and an even spicy romance. 😉 I enjoyed the podcast sessions; it felt like I was listening to ISWIS. The discourse about Abuja men, the "invisible timeline" society places on women regarding the accomplishment of certain goals, the topic of "Chivalry" and several others were also engaging. Mind you, the author is a podcaster, which accounts for the easy dialogues during the podcast sessions. It seemed real. I should listen to her podcasts.

Ms. Mara is an incredible writer, and she did a fantastic job, exploring themes like love and its complex dynamics. Beyond being a romance story, there are also significant themes of technology and the improvement of girls' education in Nigeria—topics that were discussed during the event moderated by Uchenna. But, I didn't like that the ending was rushed. I needed some drama, you get. 😂

A big shoutout to Uchenna's friends—Kemi, Mabel, Somto, Lami, and Hassana. I admire their friendship. 🥹 This is the first book in the series "The City of Hills," and I love it! ❤️ I can't wait to read the others because I'm eager to know what Jude and Kemi had going on. Their story is book 3.

🔸Rating: 4.5 ⭐ (I'm putting 5 ⭐ here because it's not possible to put 4.5).
🔸Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (I just have to because... 🙈😂)

This book welcomes you with open arms, diving straight into the essence of womanhood. I especially loved the podcast element—it gave me ISWIS vibes!

The story beautifully explores how society defines women, and the feminist themes stood out. The way the female characters upheld their non-negotiables? Absolute perfection.

At its core, this book is about friendship, but it mainly revolves around Uchenna and Leo. Both had long abandoned the idea of love—Uchenna, a podcaster and strong advocate for women refusing to settle, and Leo, a tech guru who enjoys an easygoing life without commitment.

Then came the wedding week that changed everything. Uchenna’s health struggles surfaced, and Leo fell for her—hard and fast. He adored her, spoiled her with gifts, showered her with love, and even flew her on a jet.

It’s a slow-burn romance filled with witty banter, unexpected twists, and a satisfying happy ending. A soft, feel-good, and fast-paced read that keeps you hooked till the last page!

This is a very good read for me. I was anxious for Uche 😟 like how can you be in your 30s and be battling to let go of your dream of motherhood.

I actually need to read again because I read it in two days.

Good work Mara.

This story is educational and interesting on many levels. I learn a lot from it. The Author did her home-work, the research was top-notch and she delivered. Well done, Mara!

The podcasting sessions were fire! I could almost hear the voices in my head and those girls always do justice to whatever topic they choose to discuss. Another feather to the Author, she does know her onion.

The characterisation was so focused and detailed that I could almost picture LEO and Uccy in my mind, what they look like, what they are feeling and the sizzling chemistry between them. Ohmagod!! The Universe should just give me a ‘Leo’ already.

Leo and Uccy, two bull-headed individuals, who are so stubborn that they refused to see what was right there in front of their noses. I feel like knocking their heads together a few times. Mtsheew

Uccy’s friends are the kind every girl deserves. Looking forward to reading their stories, especially Lami and Kemi’s own.

LOST IN YOU is steamy, interesting and definitely a page-turner. I highly recommend it.

It is available on Selar and Amazon!

I enjoyed reading Uchenna and Leo's story most especially because the reader took us into the world of early perimenopause, a female medical condition that is not talked about often enough. And Leo's was so sweet and understanding with such a sensitive information.

I also loved the banter between Uchenna and her younger brother. The fact that Uchenna works in a pharmaceutical company, and that she and her friend, Kemi, settled into a life of balanced feminism where a man with chivalry is to them a man who is just being a decent human being. That statement should be screamed out loud.

Thank you for writing this novel Maranatha. I read the ARC copy but I enjoyed it.

Her story highlights the power of hard work, the support of family and friends during tough times, and the real struggles many African women face in their 30s, navigating love, career, and health challenges. I really enjoyed this book. I love how it explored the topic of perimenopause. It was eye-opening and insightful, particularly because I didn't even know it existed before reading.
The chemistry between Uche and Leo was so engaging, even though Leo seriously tested my patience with how long he took to make a move. I also loved the way the family and friendship dynamics were portrayed.
The characters were well-developed, and the storytelling kept me hooked from start to finish.
