This is an absolutely spiffing story by Lynn Morrison and Anne Radcliffe . Picture this… Brighton , the year 1813 Lord Roland Percy and Lady Grace Tilbury leave the bustling capital London travelling to the seaside city of Brighton. Tranquil? No don’t be silly ! Our intrepid sleuths find themselves issued an order , when a key military advisor is found murdered with his most secret military codes stolen…So the Prince Regent finds himself issuing a royal edict and the Pavilion on lockdown. A dilemma indeed as they’re soon up to speed and it seems not only their future but the very thread that holds the British Empire together may become unravelled as Lord Percy and Lady Grace expose deceit and lies lurking in the depths and shadows in their attempts at catching the traitor and bring them to task … A big ask? That is by the by , theirs is not to question why as it were because it is a do or die situation . Will the duo get their inaugural season ? Before the sands of time are upon them? Brilliantly immersive storytelling by these prolific authors. Always a good reading experience with great characters and plots and the descriptions are always interesting and well thought out. I’m leaving my review voluntarily in my own words.
Of the three books so far, I felt this had the best ending. It has closure one can enjoy whether one is planning to read the next book or chooses this is the last one.
The series is definitely a fairytale in many ways: I do not believe that Prinny was as decent a man as this book portrays, though his temper is probably pretty accurate. From what I have read in the past about him, he wasn’t much in the way of a truly strong king. Other fairytale elements include the Sprouts and Thorne.
I actually had a difficult time telling the suspects apart. Perhaps if they had been described in more detail, in terms of appearance and characteristics. I feel that further character development would have made it easier to follow what was going on.
The story is exciting. Grace and Roland manage to again find themselves in the midst of a mystery, serving Queen Charlotte and Prinny. For all of the concern that developed over Charity being a “ruined” woman in the midst of her kidnapping… something that was out of her control… Roland and Grace spend an awful lot of time together unchaperoned. But if one suspends one’s disbelief for a piece of fiction, especially a fantastical one, it’s a small detail in the larger context of the plot’s development.
I am sure that most will find this a good story. Catching the villain and all the circumstances around it are exciting. And who can complain that Roland’s grandfather is ticked off, but can do nothing about it? I got quite a bit of satisfaction out of that.
As with the other books in this series, there is no vulgar language, there is no real gore, and there is no sexual content…only innuendo, which is very tame. I think this book can be read as a part of the series or can be read as a standalone.
Another fab read! Grace and Roland have a few trials, tribulations and trip ups to navigate in this installment of their journey together - and not just with solving the murder! This investigation was a lot more condensed than in the previous two books, in that the murder scene and suspects were confined to the Pavillion in Brighton. But this in no way compromised the content or intrigue of the story. Clever writing by the authors kept my interest, (plus curiosity, as everyone seemed shady, to greater or lesser degrees!) as everything escalated to the conclusion of Grace and Roland’s sleuthing. But uncovering who the killer and traitor was, is by no means the end of their adventure, even though they think it is! We also had an explosive and interesting reveal regarding Sir Percy’s family, I went ‘Oo’ out loud and then ‘Aha’ when that part came up! No spoilers, but certain things made more sense with that 😁 I love how the main characters are growing as this series progresses, both individually and as a couple. I love that we get to see more of and learn more about Thorne. I love how Grace manages to navigate and somewhat skirt the ‘rules’ of the time to let her true nature, compassion and intellect shine. I just love this delightful series! ♥️ A beautiful ending to boot, plus a tasty teaser of the next chapter in their adventures together. Wonderful 🥰 Fingers crossed for many more books to come 😁🙏🏽
With each book in this series, I love Grace and Roland even more.
This story has another mystery for them to solve, starting with a murder. Prinny wants our intrepid couple involved, despite what others may think. As you’d expect, there are many leads to follow, lots of intrigue, secrets and even another death, despite the relatively small number of suspects.
While investigating, Grace and Roland continue to develop their relationship, despite disapproval from some quarters. We also see Thorne’s character developed, with more backstory and a larger role to play.
Grace and Roland face danger again, as well as risking Prinny’s wrath, if they cannot recover the lost codes and find the culprit.
I loved the way the story developed, with previous storylines not forgotten. Grace is a strong female lead, refusing to be pushed into the role of a sidelined regency woman. Roland is the perfect partner for her and I hope to read many more of their adventures and see much more of Thorne, Elsie and The Sprouts too.
This wonderful first trilogy ends with Roland escorting Lady Grace and her mother for the first time in public, to a musical event in the Brighton Pavilion, hosted by the Prince Regent. But when a guest is murdered, their talents are required, and quickly, since a special code book is also missing. Tension builds as it's very quickly determined that one of the other guests must be the murderer, and there are many avenues of investigation necessary before the guilty party is revealed. I've enjoyed these three books very much as Lord Percy and Lady Grace learn to trust each other and work as a team, but also the depictions of the society of the time. And the book wouldn't be the same without the other fun characters - Thorne and the "Sprouts" and the household staff. Not sure where the next three will go, but count me in! - I received an advance copy and freely leave this honest review.
Lord Roland Percy and Lady Grace Tilbury return for their third Recency adventure, this time investigating on behalf of the Prince Regent rather than his mother, Queen Charlotte. At the prince's Brighton Pavilion one of his military advisors has been murdered and papers vital to national security stolen.
Instead of planning a wedding Roland and Grace risk incurring the wrath of the Prince Regent and the continuing disapproval of Roland’s powerful grandfather. Grace fights to assert herself as an equal partner in the investigation. Major supporting characters from previous books in the series are included. We learn more about Thorne, Roland’s valet and former batman.
I strongly recommend this book, but also recommend that it be read after earlier books in the series.
Another great book in this series of 3 books so far. This collaborative writing team grows stronger and more seamless with each release. I got it as it was released at midnight and at 2:00 a.m. was still telling myself just one more chapter’! I just finished it and am already feeling the loss of the character’s presence. This book is well researched and feels true to the Regency era genre. We again meet the familiar characters and the mixture of the British Ton (elite) and how the Royal Court and high society dictated how they felt, behaved and were perceived. The story, this time set in Brighton, is well crafted and again, I didn’t work out who the protagonist was until it was too late. Enjoy…..
Grace and Roland have made it to Brighton and her father has given permission for Roland to court her. This should be a time of parties and planning their wedding, but a murder and a missing codex see them thrown back into court intrigue once again. With so few suspects, it should be easy to wheedle out the killer, but the ton are not known for their honesty and everyone has secrets they are keeping. Regency England is brought to life with Lynn and Anne's vivid descriptions, their characters are well rounded and likeable (except the villains!) and the plot is twisty with some big surprises along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is the third book in the series, and it seems that the books just keep getting better and better. Now that our heroes have established their credibility (and personal relationship) with Queen Charlotte and the Prince Regent, they're the first ones called upon to solve a mysterious death and vitally important theft among the Prince Regent's guests. When none of the possible witnesses tell the truth, and Prinny gives them an impossible deadline, failure seems inevitable. Since this is a HEA, the news can't be all bad, but there are lots of surprises and adventures along the way. The next book is due out in late Fall, and I can't wait to read it. Highly recommended!
Another good premise a code book for deciphering military messages was stolen and its owner murdered. The scene- Prinny’s summer home. The cast- a handful of the crème of society. The task- solve the case but don’t mention the code book immediately, and don’t offend the guests.
Even though nearly everything occurs in the Pavilion, there is plenty of intrigue and lots of suspects. and as usual nearly everyone has something to hide. I enjoy how Roland and Grace are getting more comfortable and closer and how the author ties their interaction with the “minor” characters.
This is an exciting and enjoyable story that I heartily recommend
Lady Grace with family go to Brighton for the summer. They are invited to the Royal Pavilion. Lord Percy and household also went to Brighton. They were invited to a party at the Pavilion and were planning their wedding. During that night a murder occurred and the Sapphire was stolen. The Sapphire was not a gemstone but a code book for military secret correspondence. In the hands of the enemy it could do great harm. Who has it? Lady Grace and Lord Percy are once again asked, commanded even by the Prince Regent to find the Sapphire. Very good romance and murder mystery. Third book in the series, with the 4th on its way soon.
The Crown Jewels Mysteries remain the ONLY Regency-set series I've enjoyed, and this instalment contained everything I enjoyed about the first two (PLUS! ).
It's actually nice to see Roland and Grace getting to interact as a couple, without the tension of Charity's engagement hanging over them. And the development (or perhaps 'reveal' would be a better word) of what exactly Thorne is to Roland was a nice touch. Also, I'm not going to lie, I hope we get to see more of Ravenswood in future books.
All in all, it was an enjoyable read, and I'm looking forward to Book 4 coming out later this year.
What a great story. And well named as it was full of intrigue. Another murder and espionage with the Prince Regent calling on Roland and Grace to solve the murder and find the stolen documents. And to top it off he threatens to take away the crowns favor upon their marriage. What power the royals have and it's just horrible the way they abuse their power. Roland and Grace fervently and fearful search for the killer and seek to find the stolen documents no matter the cost to their own safety. How far will the killer go to get away with murder? A must read.
Move over every classic and/or current epic period piece! You've been bested by this brilliant new series! The book will challenge your deductive skills for uncovering the guilty party and captivate your heart with the tender romantic sections. Thorne and 'the sprouts' play vital~yet amusing~ parts. There's espionage, murder, chilling action scenes, and at the conclusion the reader is left spellbound awaiting the next instalment! Make sure you read the two previous books ~ The Missing Diamond and The Ruby Dagger! I'm so looking forward to The Emerald Threads!
I love historical mysteries - and this series is one of my favorites. I love Lord Roland and Lady Grace and all the members of Lord Roland's household. A surprise will be revealed about one of those characters in this book.
A murder and a theft occur in the Prince Regents Brighton residence. He calls in Lord Roland and Lady Grace to solve the crime. Danger and intrigue follow. I had to put life on hold while I finished the book. A definite page turner!
This is a wonderful addition to the Crown Jewels historical fiction mystery series. Although it can be read as a standalone, it caps off what is the perfect trilogy and story arc of Roland and Grace. The stakes are higher than ever before as they try to find the mystery of the missing code book. I am happy there will be more books in the future because I love Roland and Grace and many of the other characters in the series.
I prefer to think of this series as episodes as they are all truly different from each other. This plot kept sone of the married life safe while Be questing Lady Grace as the new lady of the manor. I am also glad the story doesn’t end there. Even with the changing of relationship, . I am happy Grace and Charity can remain happy friends. Be sure to read the books in order and get reading!
The adventure continues Grace and Roland are in Brighton. One should think they can enjoy the seaside and their marriage prospects. But no, they have only just arrived when the crown again needs their investigative skills. The Sapphire codebook has been stolen and they must retrieve it before it can leave England and fall into foreign hands. Again, they face murder, deceit, mayhem, greed and smugglers. A fascinating story that keeps you riveted till the end.
Brighton was meant to be a time for courting and getting to know each other better, not getting involved in spies and murder! But Grace and Roland got dragged into it whether they like it or not.
Another exciting read from Lynn and Anne. This series has really taken off well and is getting better and better. Love it, and can hardly wait for the next one
I absolutely adored this book! Morrison and Radcliffe did not disappoint this fan of historical mysteries. Traitors, treason, murder all at Prinny's Pavilion and his guests are subjected to interrogation by Roland and Grace. The deeper they dig, the more dangerous it becomes.
Sir Percy and Lady Grace solve the Murder and theft of Sapphire. Lynn and Anne have done it again. This is the best of the series so far!!! Can’t wait for the Emerald Threads to be available. Lord Percy and Lady Grace are again involved in a murder and theft. They find the murderer and save sapphire. I am leaving this review voluntarily from an ARC copy.
The killer was dumb. Started out well, but then made rookie mistakes. Boat captain never would have given in so easily. The prince doing all this nice things? Nope. But the books are free. (And still, why doesn’t the first letter in the headline section automatically be capitalized? It makes no sense).
The capture and ending were fantastic! Loved how everyone supported and showed up in the end. I was a bit confused by the bevy of new characters. And really could not place where we had met the dowager at the end of the book. Had to read parts of the beginning over. All in all a solid book but confusing but a great ending.
The whole series is just a little flat. Plot machinations outlandish even for the genre. The improbability of the queen of England asking a teenager to act as a runner…There are lots of series in this genre. Some of them work way better than others. A couple of high points but mostly pretty mediocre, with chemistry being especially flat.
What a brilliant mix of historical intrigue and slow-burn romance! The Regency setting in Brighton was beautifully vivid, and the tension between Roland and Grace was just chef’s kiss. The locked-down Pavilion, the murder mystery, the stolen codes — I couldn’t put it down. This is everything I want in a historical mystery-romance!
This is a good series, well written, the unexpected characters and their personalities are very interesting. The heroine is only slightly simple minded.
I am not a major fan of of the regency period due to the restrictions on women, but I enjoy both main characters as well as the plots. Eagerly waiting the 4th book in the series.
What a different way of looking at the times of Prinny and the Regency Set. Throw in murder and spying, together with family twists and you have a really exciting read.
