This is my first time reading a webcomic and it's a completely unique experience. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between eerie and captivating with a compelling effect that raises curiosity about what will happen next. It’s a strange yet fascinating read about RAIN and the two main characters; Jason and Jana who have complex pasts with the RAIN. The mysterious vibes adds a layer of depth to this read and makes it not only engaging but also fun to follow. It's a truly captivating read.

"Rain: The People That Melt in the Rain" is a fascinating and eerie continuation of the series, weaving together mystery, fantasy, and an unsettling sense of the unknown. The story shifts its focus to Jason, a dedicated weatherman, and his sister, Jana, as they navigate the strange and unpredictable weather phenomena of Deluge.

The imagery in this book is both haunting and mesmerizing. A rain of flowers, a storm of frogs—each element adds to the surreal, dreamlike quality of the story, blurring the line between reality and something far more supernatural. Jana’s terrifying visions add another layer of tension, making you question whether she is simply losing herself to madness or if she holds the key to understanding the curse that plagues their town.

The moment where Jana wakes up in a hospital, tormented by her visions, is deeply unsettling. There’s an underlying theme of helplessness—she knows something critical, something urgent, yet she is trapped within her own mind, unable to fully grasp or control it. Her declaration that Laura is the key to solving the town’s mystery raises more questions than answers, adding to the intrigue and suspense.

And then comes the final, chilling moment: Jana’s cat bringing home a tiny human. It’s such a bizarre, almost absurd image, yet it fits perfectly within the strange world of Deluge. It leaves you with a sense of unease, making you wonder—who is this tiny person? Where did they come from? And what does their presence mean for the town’s future?

This book thrives on its ability to create an atmosphere of mystery and dread, pulling the reader deeper into the strange and cursed world of Deluge. It doesn’t just tell a story—it unsettles you, making you feel as though you, too, are caught in a place where the weather is more than just nature; it’s a force of fate, magic, and maybe even something darker.

Imagine a town where it rains sausages, clocks, or even frogs, but escaping it is impossible! “The People That Melt in the Rain” is a magical, mysterious adventure perfect for kids who love quirky stories with heart.

Laura and Kevin, two brave kids trapped in the cursed town of Deluge, team up with Jason, a weather genius, and his magic-wielding friend Vera to fight creepy visions, a mysterious barrier, and the weirdest weather ever. With science, spells, and friendship, they invent the “Rainmaker” to control the chaos… but will it break the curse?

Packed with humor (frog downpours!), stunning art, and lessons about courage, this book feels like Goosebumps meets Magic Tree House, but totally unique. Perfect for ages 8-12 (and fun for adults too!).

Why I loved it:
Wild weather twists! 🌧️
Friendship saves the day. ✨
Gorgeous, quirky illustrations. 🎨

Grab this award-winning book, and maybe an umbrella! 🌂📚

Rain is the third book in The People That Melt In The Rain Series! Deluge and Ghosts are the first two books in the series. I highly recommend reading this series sequentially. The mystery, suspense, supernatural/magical elements, unpredictability, and creativity of this series is unparalleled! I have genuinely never read anything like this series. Each book leaves me with new questions and anticipating the next book's release!

Rain takes the reader on a detour from the main character to further explain what is understood about the mysterious happenings of the town, important side characters, and the town's history. This book highlights how characters have been coping with the strange events from attempting to understand to attempting escape. The twists of course brought about new questions and Jana's visions have me captivated. I cannot wait for the next book! This is nearly an indescribable series you must experience for yourself!

Carolyn Watson-Dubisch’s artwork continues to be a standout feature of the series. The illustrations in Rain: The People That Melt in the Rain #3 are breathtaking in their ability to convey mood and emotion. The use of color is particularly striking. The muted tones during moments of foreboding or reflection shift to more vibrant, intense hues during action sequences or moments of revelation. This subtle yet powerful shift in color adds depth to the emotional stakes of the story and keeps the reader visually engaged.

The intersection of the supernatural and the personal highlights the theme of courage. The characters are forced to confront not only external threats but also their own fears and insecurities.

This book is such a unique mix of mystery, magic, and adventure! Set in the cursed town of Deluge—where people literally melt in the rain—it follows Jason, the town’s weatherman, and his sister Jana as they try to escape their fate. The world-building is super creative, with bizarre weather like raining sausages and frogs, giving it a fun but eerie vibe. The mix of science, spells, and friendship makes it feel like Goosebumps meets Magic Tree House, but with its own charm. If you enjoy quirky, slightly spooky stories, you’ll love this one!

With its rich storytelling, compelling characters, and stunning artwork, it’s a graphic novel that transcends its genre.

For fans of graphic novels that blend fantasy, mystery, and emotional depth, this book is a must-read. And for those new to the series, this volume is an excellent entry point, offering enough intrigue and heart to hook readers into the ongoing mystery of Deluge. Watson-Dubisch’s work continues to be a powerful reminder that graphic novels can tell stories with emotional depth, engaging visuals, and a sense of wonder that resonates long after the final page is turned.

Thank you mbooktours and Carolyn for the opportunity. When I saw the book cover on the sign up post, I instantly decided to sign for this book as it was a very unique looking cover. And once I dived into the story I experienced different emotions and dark energy. If anyone who has seen the German Netflix show DARK might be able to relate to this book as there’s haunting vibe to it. It’s definitely worth your time and attention.

This book is so differently curated, it might raise confusion among some readers as it doesn’t make sense at so many points but that’s exactly the point of this book. It’s captivating in a very haunting way and it will make you feel like you’re in the book and you’re the mc and everything is happening to you. I can’t wait to read more of Carolyn’s work as she has done a great job and highly appreciate the illustrator.

Okay first things first, the illustrations are so so good I mean I’m still in awe. The book cover is so unlikely that it will capture your attention because it’s not some regular book cover. The story of Jason and Jana is kind of weird yet it’s a quick and fun read. This volume is divided into 2 parts: one of Jason and one of Jana, both are siblings. It’s a very different way of storytelling and I absolutely loved it.

A Character-Driven Chapter in a Strange, Quirky Series

The third issue of The People That Melt in the Rain slows the pace and lets us see more of the people behind the town’s strange curse. This time, the focus turns to Jason, the weatherman who reports on storms he can never fully predict, and his sister Jana, who dreams of escaping Deluge altogether. Their story adds a more personal layer to the series, showing that the curse isn’t only about the rain—it’s about the choices, fears, and longings of the people who live under its shadow.

Carolyn Watson-Dubisch weaves humor and unease into a quieter, more character-driven chapter. Rather than leaning on spectacle, she draws readers into the inner lives of the townsfolk, making the series feel both eerie and strangely human.

Mike Dubisch’s illustrations carry that same balance. His moody linework captures expressions that shift between worry, hope, and quiet resilience. The visual style amplifies the atmosphere of the town without overwhelming the story, giving readers room to linger on the characters themselves.

With Rain, the series shows it can move beyond its quirky premise to explore deeper emotions. It’s a thoughtful, atmospheric continuation that leaves you curious about what secrets the next storm might reveal.

A very unusual and distinctive book that has literal art inside of it. It’s a very interesting story of two people Jason and Jana who are brother and sister. The way to describe things is very phenomenal. Carolyn has really outdone herself here and I’m sad I didn’t read her work earlier. I hope to read her other masterpieces as well. Highly recommended.

"The People That Melt in the Rain" is a captivating, genre-bending adventure that will leave readers both mesmerized and unnerved. This continuation of the Rain series plunges readers back into the mysterious town of Deluge, where reality and the supernatural merge in unsettling ways. Whether you're drawn to mystery, fantasy, or a touch of the bizarre, this book has it all.

The story shifts focus to Jason, a determined weatherman, and his sister, Jana, as they wrestle with the terrifying and unpredictable weather patterns that plague their town. From the rain of flowers to frogs pouring from the sky, the atmosphere is both surreal and haunting, blurring the line between natural and supernatural. Jana’s disturbing visions add a psychological depth to the narrative, leaving readers questioning her sanity or whether she is key to unraveling the dark curse hanging over Deluge.

One of the most chilling moments comes when Jana awakens in a hospital, plagued by her visions and a sense of helplessness. Her cryptic statement about Laura being central to solving the town’s mystery raises the stakes and deepens the suspense, propelling the reader through the twists and turns of the plot. And then, the eerie moment when Jana’s cat brings home a tiny human takes the strange to a whole new level, leaving readers with an unforgettable image that perfectly complements the book’s atmosphere of dread and mystery.

On the other hand, the book also offers a lighter, more whimsical side for younger readers. The People That Melt in the Rain blends humor and adventure with quirky weather phenomena—like raining sausages and frogs—into a magical journey. Laura and Kevin, along with Jason and Vera, navigate the challenges of the town’s strange occurrences with courage, science, and a dash of magic. Their friendship, alongside their inventiveness, brings an element of hope amidst the bizarre chaos.

The illustrations in this book are stunning, adding to the whimsical and eerie tone of the narrative. It’s a book that feels both fun and frightening, with a perfect blend of heart and adventure, making it a great read for kids aged 8-12 (and enjoyable for adults as well).

The People That Melt in the Rain is a unique blend of heartwarming friendship and spine-tingling mystery. Whether you’re a fan of magical realism or simply looking for a story that will keep you on edge, this book delivers. The whimsical charm, combined with its deeper, darker elements, makes it an unforgettable read.

This book solidifies itself as a captivating, blending compelling characters, rich visuals, and thought-provoking themes. Carolyn intertwines the humans with the apocalyptic, crafting a narrative that is both engaging and deeply moving. You will find yourself drawn deeper into the world of RAIN and will be hooked by its unique premise and emotional depth. This is a book that doesn’t just tell a story about survival; it explores what survival means—and the cost that comes with it. A highly recommended read for fans of dystopian narratives that dig deeper than the surface.

Enjoyable

I enjoy reading children’s books to relax, for they often carry a simplicity and charm that adult literature sometimes lacks. This book, a delightful blend of mystery and beautiful illustrations, quickly piqued my interest and drew me into its pages. The story unfolded with an innocence that was layered with intrigue, making it engaging not only for younger readers but also for someone like me who seeks a gentle escape at the end of a long day.

Although I wished the fonts were larger, that minor detail did not diminish the overall pleasure of reading it.

The art of this book captivates with its fluid lines and atmospheric design, elevating the story's tension. Jason’s prediction of the rain is particularly striking, adding a layer of otherworldliness and urgency. Carolyn Watson-Dubisch's writing is tight, focusing on both the mystery of the rain’s power and the emotional weight of its consequences. There’s a palpable sense of foreboding as the characters must navigate their way through the challenges this strange environment presents.

The story’s emotional depth takes center stage, as the protagonists wrestle with internal and external struggles. The pacing is deliberate, allowing for reflective moments between the action, which gives the characters room to grow. The rain itself, ever-present and symbolic, becomes more than just a weather condition; it embodies a sense of transformation and inevitability.
