With this particular book I am excited that it helps to present to the youngest readers a door into opening the field of cryptozoology without ever actually going into the phrase. As the reader steps into the mysteries of the sea they are presented with a monster page with beautiful yet unrealistic illustrations that will capture any person's imagination.

Afterwards the rest of the section goes along to explore a real life animal that may have been the nugget of truth behind the actual monster. It explains how the particular animal may have been confused by seamen, how they appear and some of their life habits.

Although not deeply researched it is a stepping stool for those who may be interested although not all origin species have been used. All in all it is a cute book to get started with your children but depending on their sensitivity you may want to check the illustrations before letting them go free with the book.

• Stories from long ago tell of incredible creatures lurking beneath the ocean’s surface. This book not only tells the incredible legend but give facts the facts of the real life creatures that inspired the legends. Today scientists have solved the mysteries of: The Kraken, Mermaids and Sea Serpents all of which are featured in this book.
• Grades 2-5
• This book would be a great addition to a science classroom.
• Individual students that may benefit from this book include students that are interested in the ocean, its creatures, or legends.
• This book could be used in a literature circle where students produce a report on the topic. Each group will receive a different topic about the ocean then groups will present their findings to the class.
• This entire class could enjoy this book when learning about sea creatures. Students can research a sea creature and create their own Sea Monster based on that creature.
• Other books like this include: Hungary Ladybugs by Judith Jango-Cohen
• This book is available through amazon.
