With this particular book I am excited that it helps to present to the youngest readers a door into opening the field of cryptozoology without ever actually going into the phrase. As the reader steps into the mysteries of the sea they are presented with a monster page with beautiful yet unrealistic illustrations that will capture any person's imagination.
Afterwards the rest of the section goes along to explore a real life animal that may have been the nugget of truth behind the actual monster. It explains how the particular animal may have been confused by seamen, how they appear and some of their life habits.
Although not deeply researched it is a stepping stool for those who may be interested although not all origin species have been used. All in all it is a cute book to get started with your children but depending on their sensitivity you may want to check the illustrations before letting them go free with the book.
