Blade of the Phoenix

Rate this book
For two thousand years, the continent of Riviand has rested beneath the ocean, protected by the Blade of the Phoenix—a magical sword that keeps its people safe. When the blade is stolen, Queen Claret must strike a desperate bargain with the goblins to prevent a catastrophic flood.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Kaylee and Mateo stumble upon a mysterious sword near their school. Unbeknownst to them, it’s the key to an ancient magic—and the fate of a submerged world. Drawn into the fantastical land of goblins, giants, and trolls, they must navigate treacherous alliances and unravel the truth about the blade’s power.

Can Kaylee and Mateo restore balance to Riviand, or will their journey doom the world they’ve just begun to understand?

fun, fast, creative story!

I enjoyed this new story built on the previous similar books. It can stand alone, but it’s fun to see old friends and references show up.

Kristy Dixon never disappoints. Her world building is top tier, and this book is no different! She builds on her other series to start another spinoff in the same “world”. I’m 100% here for all of it!

The characters are fun, interesting, quirky and lovable. There’s a few friendly faces making appearances if you’ve read her other series. The puffin sidekick is goals! Even funnier that he’s trying to be trained to attack. This mashup team trying to save Riviand will have you giggling and cheering them on.

The pacing is well paced to keep you reading and engaged. Plenty of quest action to go around, and leave you wanting more. It’s the first in a series so it does leave off setting up for another storyline with plenty of questions waiting to be answered!

Overall, highly recommend, especially for preteens/teens.
