Rate this book
Roan King is a powerful leader of the King's Cove pack, a group of wolf shifters. His days are filled with the responsibilities of ensuring the safety and prosperity of his pack and preparing to inherit the family's multi-million- dollar corporation. However, his father, the current CEO, has one condition for his Roan must find his true mate. His doubts about finding a mate change when his inner beast, usually dormant in the presence of humans, is roused by the touch of Storm Wright. The primal instinct to claim her, to protect her, is overwhelming and there isn’t anything or anyone that will keep him from what belongs to him.
Storm Wright, once a talented dancer, spends her time and talent close to home. With a father whose malevolent intentions are as powerful as they are dangerous, she remains in the shadows, afraid to dance in the spotlight that could illuminate her true self. Her quiet life is irrevocably changed when Lathan, a man she considers her brother, asks for her help. Little does she know that by granting his favor, she will be thrust into a realm beyond her wildest imaginings. Enter Roan King, a commanding and enigmatic figure who sees through the veil of Storm's fear and recognizes the fiery passion within her.
Together, they must face the challenges that lie ahead, battling against the forces that seek to destroy them while unraveling the mysteries of their intertwined destinies. Can Storm adapt to the life of a shifter's mate while mastering her way back into the dance world? Will Roan's love be enough to protect her from the forces that seek to manipulate or destroy her?

Good Effort

For a paranormal shifter book, it lacked a lot of essential details. We never even got a description of Roan’s wolf. In addition, it seemed as if the wolves in this book lacked a lot of skills and gifts that come with the shifter community. The Alpha of the pack couldn’t even communicate telepathically with the rest of the pack. Then for Roan to get tricked by the same wolf was a bit much.

Tropes: Fated Mates, Fake Relationship, Found Family, Stalking, Suspense, Love/Attraction at First Glance, African American, Shifters
Mated to A Boss by Essence Devyne is the first book I have read by this author. The book has multiple narrators (main characters, secondary characters and villains are all “heard”). The book features Roan, rising alpha of his pack and businessman, and Storm, his human fated mate. Lathan is Roan’s best friend and a surrogate big brother to Storm. When the story begins, Lathan is already in a committed relationship with Storm’s dance partner and best friend, Jade. It seemed logical that Lathan and Jade’s story had perhaps been told in another book, but I could not find any evidence that one had been published. This situation did not diminish my enjoyment of THIS story, but Lathan and Jade were so entertaining I would have liked to have read their beginnings.
Roan’s father is near retirement, and he has some stipulations before he passes down his control; he wants Roan to settle down with an appropriate mate to show his stability. Roan has been in several physical only relationships, and these will come into play later in the book. Lathan suggests that Roan and his best girlfriend/little sister Storm pretend to be in a relationship. This plan alleviates two problems, Storm needs protection from enemies of the past and Roan will present a more mature demeanor to his exacting father, win-win. However, Lathan nor Roan could have anticipated that Storm would turn out to be Roan’s fated mate! How will they tell Storm the secrets they have harbored for years, and will she be able to accept Roan as her forever love and that they are shifters?
Conclusion:
I liked Ms. Devyne’s take on the shifter-verse; her main characters were sweet together and she kept my interest throughout the book. Storm had a sad backstory and Lathan, and his father Leon were amazingly kind to her and had bright spirits. As noted, I would have loved to be able to read how Jade and Lathan connected, but the multi-narrators gave the story clarity, and I enjoyed how unexpected heroes and heroines emerged. Final words, this story was interesting and did not adhere to all of the shifter-verse lore, so it was a unique rendering. Chauncey appears briefly in this story, and he has his own novel, Deja: A Shifter’s Desire. I plan to check it out.
Favorite Lines:
“Okay, don’t say nothing when she come to you tonight for that.” We both laugh.
I tell my father what Roan shared with me and my plan to try to convince Storm to be Roan’s pretend girlfriend.
“Really? You’re pouting? Rotten ass. Here. I got something for you.”
“Roan, close your mouth and stop eye fucking baby girl. Shit, what did I just do?”
The wolf inside me, a creature of instinct and primal energy, strains against the barriers of my human form.
“I can’t believe I’m going to be an auntie. Oh my God! We are having a baby. I can see it now; I’m going to get my baby every other weekend and sometimes throughout the summer.”
Your heart is a treasure trove of empathy and compassion, and your soul shines brighter than any diamond.
That isn’t something I am going to let continue. I make a vow to myself: I'll win her back.
You and Lathan looked after me like I belonged to your family. I could never not love you.
Look, I don’t do all this back and forth, especially with someone whose name I can’t remember.

Something There, But Inconsistent

The story was okay. The FMC is a damsel in distress, while MMC comes to her rescue many times. The amount of evil and unhinged people in this story is crazy. 😂 Sex scenes were okay, some of the dirty talk was cheesy to me, but some may enjoy it. There were too many PoVs. Every character didn't need one. It messed with the flow.

I wasn't particularly attached to any particular characters. The plot and the way it was laid out was convoluted and worse, I think the relationship building portions of the book suffered. It felt like too much telling, rather than showing.

Despite the whiplash of back and forth action and slow moments, it'll keep you interested in finishing the story to see how it all comes together. Always good to see Black paranormal romances. 🖤

Has potential but needs edits

⭐️⭐️⭐️|🌶️🌶️.5
This storyline is good however the way it was executed could’ve been better. The story had grammatical errors throughout and some inconsistencies that made the story hard to follow. The spice was very rushed and even had fade to black parts.

Overall I think this author has a lot of potential, she just needs an editor and a beta reader. 💖

Found Family

This was a good, dramatic read with strong mate vibes and nonstop tension. Roan’s instant connection to Storm pulled me in, and the protectiveness surrounding her was a highlight. The secrets and outside threats kept the story moving. There’s frustration, growth, redemption, and solid payoff by the end. Overall, an enjoyable shifter romance with drama that keeps you turning pages.

2.75 at best

I love wolf books and was really excited to read this ... however it was dry and the pace was slow due to so many pov some many overly detailed moments and just lacked real chemistry between the main characters. I kept hoping for a moment of zest and something but nope. I did enjoy the story concept and maybe I will try this authors other works

Great story

This was my first read by this author I surely will not be the last. This was a really good story. I was sad about everything that kept happening to Storm, but her maid took care of everything to have that kind of love and dedication is so rare I wish there was a part two

Awesome read

My first from you.love the way you write ,the way you use everyone connected to storm to have their say and what they are up too. Hopefully you will continue with at least another book with this and make it a series which I would definitely recommend to anyone plus myself to purchase and read.

Not the best ending

I am not going to read this book to filth cause I gets in trouble here on Amazon. What I will say is, they were no protector. For a female to have known threats and then leave her with no security and to have your ex-lover guarding her. Like who does that? Anyways the book ended kinda weird but you will see for yourself.

perturbed

This was my first book by this author. The book’s plot was good and I enjoyed it. Some of the details were off like the alphas ex’s having access to his mate, the enemies not being immediately handled, the alphas inability to secure his mate and the only revenge that was somewhat satisfying was the mom poisoning Sasha.

A Wolf like Roan

I try not to read much “paranormal” books, but I took a chance on this one and I’m so sad to leave it behind. I would’ve love to read more about Jade and Lathan’s story, just to keep it going.

Having a man a wolf like Roan would make any girl swoon. He was a true example of provider, lover, protector

So good

Oh how I loved this. Every single view, every single perspective, was intricate and well thought out. I knew I would love Roan and Landen real bad and seeing how they stood behind Storm was everything. Even the parents on every end. This was very enjoyable. Recommend!

This is a REALLY good book!

I really liked Rosn and Storm but I loved Kade she was funny, sassy and she didn't play especially when it came to her bestie Storm. This book was well paced, believable and I got to know and relate to the characters as they built their relationships.

Great plot

There were several typos. The biggest one naming first Zack’s pack is the enemy, then Mack’s pack as the enemy. How together a good book though.

Epilogue

This could’ve used an epilogue on how the recovery went and what happens next with the couple. The chips were stacked and many things were overcome.
