I’ve been chased by darkness my whole life—every breath tinged with the promise of oblivion. But amidst the shadows, a forbidden spark of desire burns within me—a defiant will to live that refuses to fade.
A monster, whose hunger was once for the final breath…
I was born to feast on the fear of dying souls—a Death Devourer, patient and relentless, savoring the last flickers of life. Yet in her, I discovered a taste far richer than death—a raw, pulsating lust that sustains me in ways I never imagined. Her living desire is a feast I cannot resist, she will be mine.
A demon, evolving from despair…
Once confined to The Bleak, I now stalk the edges of light and dark, feeding on fear and forbidden pleasure. But she changes everything. I crave her—more than terror, more than death. Her desire fuels me, binds me to her, and no matter how she fights it, she’s my beholden.
A man, cursed by mortality yet fiercely defiant…
Fate tied me to her, pulling me deeper into the dark with every step. I stand between her and the things that hunger for her, not because I have to, but because I refuse to lose her. The light is slipping, the night is closing in, and piece by piece, it’s taking me with it. But for her… I’ll fight until there’s nothing left.
When Death Whispers is a dark-ish why choose monster romance standalone where our leading lady will not have to choose between her beasts or her human.

my oh my waowy this book was fun and delicious I really enjoyed it, I loved all the characters their banter, and dynamics were fun. Parker is a great main character being strong but also emotionally not okay she's blunt and I very much enjoy that. Hudson is such a golden retriever while I didn't care to much for him he had his funny moments. I love rad and steo and absolutely need art of them asap though for rad being a nightmare demon he didn't really bring forth the nightmares would've loved to see more of that both rad and steo seem a bit underdeveloped and would've loved to see more personality and growth for them
I enjoyed some of this book and some of it was ok. I enjoyed the characters except Hudson I thought was a little weird when we first met him in the bakery. I also felt like Parker was annoyed with him more than anything. The plot was okay but it got a little repetitive in the beginning when the monster would attack/visit, Parker and Hudson would argue, Parker would try to get him to leave, and then they make up. This went on for a few too many times and it got boring. It finally got interesting after the last bakery scene with the murders. The ending was nice and I enjoyed the different epilogues. The thing that bothered me was the males fought throughout the whole book and when Parker was in trouble they decided that they had to work together to help her, which I get, but after they are all buddy-buddy to the point where they share her. I also want to know why was the shadow monster always there since Parker was a little girl. Also, he is basically destroying her slowly and then decides he wants sex now since Rod showed up. Overall it was okay.
Lots of neat monster worldbuilding going on. The characters were fun, and the shadowy steam was steamin'. Some repetition of phrases and actions got in the way of my enjoyment a few times.
I really loved how Hudson came to realize that he needed to adapt his way of thinking and how he treated Parker. He figured out how to be a better version of himself with her. Rad was the loveable grumpy nightmare demon who fell in love with sandwiches and Parker. Steo's transformation was the starkest. He went from trying to unalive everything standing in his path (I mean, he is death, so we've gotta cut him a bit of a break anyway, right) to deferring completely to Parker. Bringing her random human items was beyond adorable. Even his shadows were completely captivated by her. Parker got to face her monsters and keep them, and I'm totally jealous of her Evergloom burrow.
A fast pace, smutty, monster why choose romance, stand-alone book. I really enjoyed the banter between the MMCs towards the end of the book, and how we got an epilogue from each character’s pov. It’s a little repetitive at the beginning with setting up the whole monster attacking/visiting, but I kept with it and did enjoy the book. Worth giving a go if you like smutty monster books!
I loved this book! the dynamic between the 4 is just spot on! I struggled at the end because it just seemed to drag on but the beginning grabbed me and held me.
Don’t let the cover fool you—When Death Whispers might hint at a typical why-choose setup, but this isn’t just a story about Parker being able to pick from a lineup of a couple of monsters and a human. It’s about what happens when the monsters choose her—and the terrifying ways that choice starts to look like obsession, possession, or something even darker. And that’s the way it reads for much of the beginning. Then, just when you think you’ve got it all figured out—that the death devourer, Steorfan, is the clear villain, and Rad and Hudson have to pull the whole enemy of my enemy is my friend routine to track down the girl—it flips on you again. Another twist drops, and suddenly it’s like, oh… THIS IS a why-choose romance after all. And it hits sooo good—like all that wanting, wishing, and dramatic sighing finally gets the reward it deserves. It’s the kind of payoff that makes you want to high-five your past self for sticking it out through all the angst and monster chaos.
Parker is a sharp, stubborn FMC whose fear slowly twists into something darker, and her relationship with the monsters takes on a twisted, obsessive quality that makes you wonder if she’s losing herself or discovering something darker inside. Hudson starts off like your classic golden boy, and I wasn’t sure I’d like him—but there’s depth there, and an obsessive devotion to Parker that somehow works, even when it probably shouldn’t. Then Rad shows up, biting into a sandwich soaked with Parker’s blood (yes, really), and I was instantly, okay, yes, this monster I like. His role only gets more interesting when you find out he knows the death devourer from before—and is actually trying to protect her from him. Hudson and Rad’s dynamic is a blast—I really enjoyed their banter. It’s the perfect mix of tension and camaraderie that adds a fun layer to the chaos surrounding Parker. And then there’s the death devourer, Steorfan, who’s been following Parker since she was young, utterly obsessed with claiming her death like it’s the purpose he was created for. He’s terrifying at first, but by the end? My heart melted for him. Ok, my heart melted for all of them!
The writing is vivid, the emotions hit hard, and when the heat picks up? It gets HOT! The spice is high and absolutely delivers for dark monster romance fans.
Thank you so much to Demi Warrik and Lysanne Marie for providing the ARC of When Death Whispers in exchange for an honest review. I loved diving into this dark and thrilling world!
The cover captivated my attention from the start with the sandwich-eating monster. The storyline focuses on the FMC, Parker, who has been haunted/hunted by the monster hiding in her closet from a young age. These authors play off of the fear most of us had as a child, the dark and the monsters who call it home. Parker is always on alert, keeping out of the shadows, moving frequently, and not making attachments. From her perspective, all those who were once close to her are now dead. Parker has found respite from her death devourer in a small town, but a stubborn golden boy, Hudson, can’t stay away for his own good. The plot twists were entertaining, like why not throw in a sandwich-loving demon who has beef with Steo, the monster Parker can’t get rid of? All of the MMC’s character development was well-done, emphasizing how the FMC had changed their perceptions of the world and the growth of their humanity. I would have appreciated more acknowledgement from Steo of his previous unwelcome actions to Parker that make this story a darkish romance. There is a small mention of it but I feel it was a conversation that Steo and Parker needed to have. Once the dynamic between the males of the storyline was established, I was wholeheartedly invested till the end. The themes of self-acceptance and found family warmed my heart. And the epilogue was a perfect ending, leaving readers satisfied. This book is worth a read for anyone looking for a heartfelt monster love story.
This was an enjoyable read, couldn't put it down once I had started it! I loved the tense atmosphere in the beginning with Steo practically following Parker for her whole life, her accidentally summoning Rad and then dragging Hudson into her chaotic life. Really liked the pacing of the story and the individual relationships; each took their own time to develop and it made sense that Steo took the longest to realise his feelings. I loved the comedic moments during the epilogues with Steo's shadows and Rad's obsession with stealing a bite out of Parker's sandwiches. The world building interested me with the evergloom but not much was explained about it.
Steo lives up to the nickname bone daddy, he was definitely jealous and possessive for 75% of the story. He is sweet with trying to figure out the shopping and food aspect of the human world for Parker. I love his little shadows too. Rad is just as possessive as Steo was but he helped Hudson out a few times when he didn't need to because of how it would affect Parker. He was definitely whipped at the end. Hudson is the sweet, golden boy mask who acidentally got dragged into Parker's world but fell for her in the end. I love the playful dynamic between Hudson, the shadows and with Rad.
I'd recommend this standalone as a great read and as a refresher if in a slump!
I enjoyed this one more than expected honestly. But the more I read the more I loved different aspects of it; from the battle of wills between the three males, to the character development in the FMC, and the dark but and cozy plot.
starting with the FMC, Parker was very intriguing. She finds comfort in food, which shows throughout the story. And that is so fkn relatable to me. She also is a scared and fragile girl at the beginning, smart but always on high alert. But her taking power and control back in life little by little is what I love in a FMC.
all three males were so different. One dances with death, another prefers fear, then there's the human who's just helpless for her. but from their species to their personalities, there were so many differences. It was a very sexy tangle! But also very entertaining! Clearly a competition for Parker, but the was a certain comradery going on too that really worked for me too.
I enjoyed the plot, starting from the haunting aspects the monsters brought, to the cozy overnight bakery scenes, and the character development for all 4 parts of this harem. From wanting her death to wanting her lust. A bond who's origins confuses everyone, and Hudson .. the human who's all wrapped up in the monsterous chaos.
This was a unique story about a girl named Parker running from monsters. Parker has been hunted by monsters her whole life. She keeps a lonely life to save those around her from death. Hudson, her lovable coworker, gets Parker to let her walls down and consider starting something with him. Then bam her monster shows up and tries to get Hudson just for touching her. Parker helps Hudson get used to the life of being on edge and watching for monsters. While they are working together, Parker manages to find herself a new monster to keep around. The two monsters, Rad and Steo, seem to have beef to begin with, but it gets worse after they both set their sight on Parker. The book does talk about loneliness and control and how Parker has been struggling for a long time. The only thing that I wasn’t a huge fan of was how quickly Parker gave into Steo. She has hated him and blamed him for a lot of bad things that happened in her life. She gets kidnapped by him and then after only a small amount of time together she’s in bed with him. I just felt there could have been a little more development there. I liked the end of the book a lot. The scenes of them all living together was highly entertaining and I enjoyed seeing them all interact!

Solid 4 star monster romance. got this for free with the sykd monster romance free day. I definitely plan on reading more from these authors.
General vibes: Persephone x Hades (very loosely), Supernatural (show, again loosely), a dash of labyrinth, first half is spooky, second half is wholesome
Things I liked: - mc 1 and 2 were great. a golden retriever human and a slightly astarion coded wolfman/demon. - fancy 🍆 - the book was funny! several laugh out loud moments - "Bone Daddy" - it took a turn for the ridiculous, but in a fun way - I highlighted a bunch of cute moments that were just adorable. love it when the big baddie is all domestic. - the first half was very creepy! I liked the atmosphere of terror and uncertainty
things I didn't like: - some minor editing issues - the tone shift was....a lot. I was ok with it for the most part, but I think if it was split into two books you could've gone from terrifying monsters to gooey love interests with a bit more depth. - mmc 3 was forgiven pretty quickly imo. I needed him grovel.
This book totally reminded me of the meme out there with the woman holding hands with the monster under her bed, or even more the one with the woman hanging her bottom outside the bed so the monster under it would touch it. And touching it the monster does… There is so much touching involved in this one, I have to admit it became a bit much for me. I prefer plot over spice, and this book is definitely meant for those prefering spice over plot. If you’re a fan of monster spice, you might even end up in spicy heaven with this one.
As far as characters go, I have to admit our human man Hudson is definitely my favorite. He is the cute cinnamon roll guy that needs to balance out our two morally grey demons, and I loved his connection with Parker. Parker might have been reluctant to let people in in the past, but he’s the first to put a dent in that big wall around her heart. Honestly, who wouldn’t fall for a man who makes you shaped pancakes for breakfast after a night of fun beneath the sheets!?
Our main FMC Parker is hunted by an unknown entity her entire life but what she doesn’t know is things aren’t always what they seem! With a golden retriever human pining after her and a werewolf like demon along with her unknown entity she’s in for a rollercoaster of things happening. Parker’s transformation throughout the book from being scared out of her mind, ashamed and then finally acceptance was done very well! I liked that she put up some resistance at first, instead of being all in at the start like most fmcs. I really loved Steo’s character arc throughout this book, he went from being obsessed with her death to just downright obsessed with her, his little shopping trip was hilarious😂 This book is so good and sweet! There are a few triggers so read those before you start. Tropes- -fmc who evades Death -sandwich eating fear demon -bone daddy & shadows👀 -golden retriever human mmc -spicy why choose paranormal romance w/ multi pov -fancy peens & naughty tails -mmcs hate each other -unique magic realm
Both these authors are new to me so I didn’t know what to expect but they definitely don’t let you down! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This is the perfect Spooky read for spooky season when it comes! This was a roller coaster in the best way possible! Had me wanting to read it again before it even ended that’s how beyond amazing it was! It starts off spooky then things get spicy! Parker is fantastic loved her as soon as I started reading. She has lived a life in fear of getting close to anyone thanks to her stalker who lurks in the shadows, but she also wants the closeness of others. My favorite of them all though is Hudson, he comes into her life and refuses to leave, no matter what gatta love a man who thinks he’s fearless!. Rad is a demon who sees Parker and immediately goes into protection mode. And I can’t talk about Steo and not laugh because he was a huge surprise to probably everyone. His antics alone will have you laughing out loud! I’m so sad this is only a standalone but it definitely is a damn good one I more then recommend this one I say read it immediately!
…. It started with fear, attraction, & a sandwich…. Really what more could a reader want? I mean yessss there’s the golden boy, titillating demon, and then BONE DADDY. BUT REALLY I’m here for the FMC Parker, babes a bad B living YEARS in fear only for everything to change in an an instant. Even with the sudden change in events she still perseveres and adapts and HOLY TOSTITOS does she find love and damn good smex in that swift adaptation. Honestly Demi did it again. She drew you in and made you feel like you were there watching the whole story unfold first hand. You felt Parker’s fear, lust, & content in the end. Mind you this is multiple POV which was perfect when it came to getting to see Hudson’s, Rads, and Steos growing feelings and how they would essentially do anything for Parker. Note: It was a fast burn, instant love even though there was a form of build up between Parker and Hudson- but that’s not part of the story as much as it assumed. Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Dark:🌖 Storyline: 10/10

First, I apologize for putting this book at such a low star. I have to be honest.
If I tell you about it I will ruin the whole book because I can sum it up in three sentences so go read it.
This is a fast pace dark Romantasy book with 5 star Spice. You like smut, read this book, you like different entities than just human smut, read this book.
I like the creativity, the story itself. I see potential in this book. Am I use to fast pace books? No but I appreciate reading them in between the slower books series I read.
The way the main character is portrayed, she is strong and Stubborn at times. The main male human character is nurturing, understanding and loving. I liked Rad more than Steo but I liked them both more than Hudson. The smut scenes were amazing. The different types of… ahh. Anyway, they were easy to picture in my mind while reading.
This is all I can say without dragging the book down because it is worth the read and the Authors are really nice and powerful.
Both being new authors to me, I didn’t really know what to expect for this book but I am so glad I jumped in. It’s not often authors can pull a real feeling from readers but let me tell you…I felt so much. The start of the story is full of fear, the FMC is drowning in it. I felt the chilling tingles of fear every time she did (the chill bumps were here for it!) On the other hand, the heat was perfection!!! The writing of the spicy scenes was some of the best I’ve ever read, I wanted to read them over and over again. I loved the MMC’s, it was refreshing to have such a diverse group and to not instantly love them all. My only complaint with this book is it not being longer bc I needed more of the banter between the MMC’s, the parts that did get in there were hilarious! It did take a turn that I didn’t see coming (in a good way), but it was beautifully finished! Over all, I loved this story and am ready to start on the authors other work!!!
Wow! What did I just read? Why did I love it? I’ll tell you why…..it was f**#ing 🔥🥵 I went into this blind and had a hard time putting it down to work lol
The FMC Parker is used to pushing everyone away because when she doesn’t they ☠️ ‘Her’ monster has been after her since she was 8….. and she doesn’t know why. Her human coworker just wanted to give her a ride and now ‘her’ monster is after him too.
Then…. Accidental summoning? Check Does he become obsessed? Check Does he take a bite from Parkers sandwich? lol check
So now we have Steo (Death aka Bone Daddy), Rad (Nightmare Demon) and Hudson (Human golden boy) all want Parker for their own and for different reasons. Their relationships all evolve in their own time. The spice is amazing and the story moves at a fast pace.
OMG. I just want to say. This book just fulfilled ny fantasy for reading a story about someone like "death" . Like i wanted to read a story where a character like "DEATH" would go through changes. Parker was not a total sunshine character type but damn did she shine. She made Rad and Stef thinking about their whole life. The way they had only been just existing and not LIVING. And don't even get ne started on Hudson 🫠. He is such a sweetheart and stuck to her through EVERYTHING, refusing to give up even when she yelled at him to just leave. He knew our girl needed him😭. And the SPICE🥵. Phew it got a little Hot especially in the ending 🌶️🌶️🌶️. I am not used to giving reviews as you can tell so I'm sorry if this didn't feel enough to convince you to read but trust ne if you want something, cute, mysterious, dark in a mix this is for you❤️💯

Parker has been haunted by the monster in the dark her entire life. People around her keep getting un alived and she keeps running to try and escape her monster. She ends up in a small town working at a bakery. Hudson, a golden-boy type, keeps flirting with her and she is finding it harder and harder to keep him at a distance...that is, until her monster finds her and makes him a target. Throw in a sandwich stealing demon and mischief ensues. Told from all POV and MFMM, the story grabs you from the very first page. I adored the first 3/4 of the book but was a bit disappointed with the ending. There were a few things I was left wondering. At the end, I realized the problem was it needed more world building to provide explanations for certain things. It's still an amazing book, I just feel like the ending could have been fleshed out a bit more?
I enjoyed reading When Death Whispers by Demi Warrik and Lysanne Marie. Despite the slower start, I thought the story was really good. In the beginning, it kinda reminds me of a spooky campfire story, but I like how despite the spookiness, it turns into a romance. I really liked the characters, I thought Rad and Hudson were incredibly funny. I always enjoy books that make me laugh. Since I don't really read many books in this particular genre, I am very glad I enjoyed it. I had a good time with it. I think it would be cool if this ended up being a series of standalones. I can't wait to read more.
This is more geared for 18+ readers since there may be some content that isn't suitable for some readers.
The moment I started reading this book I knew I was hooked! It’s is about a girl name Parker who is running from the scary monster from her childhood. She feels like a bomb is always just shy of going off and that the monster will find her even after she runs to new places. Enter the human Hudson. Hudson, could not let her fight the monster fight alone. Especially after Steo (her monster) spoke to him and tried to unalive him. Somehow without her knowledge Parker then summons Rad who is convinced and will do anything to stay with her for a long time. Which is hilarious as Steo and him have beef. Their banter was so good. In the end these 3 men and Parker create a bond. It was a roller coaster and I LOVED every minute of it!!
I saw why choose, monsters, and new to me authors and I was IN! The banter sucked me in as always, I love when humor is perfectly balanced with everything else in the story, spice, darkness, whatever the story may hold. I loved Hobson, he was a fantastic character and an absolute rock for Parker. The monsters were both unique and I found myself waiting excitedly for their POVs.
As great as all the characters were, I'm a sucker for a villain and so naturally Steo found himself as my favorite. He was mysterious and kept me asking which way the story would lean in his regards. I wasn't disappointed and I loved how the story wrapped up! If no one else is, I'M emphatically hopeful that we get more!
I really thought this book had a lot of potential! Unfortunately, I couldn’t bring myself to get past the 50% mark. The way Parker snapped at Hudson after his reaction to her being with Rad was totally unacceptable. She’s being haunted by a demon and Hudson knows this. He sees her with Rad and is LEGITIMATELY concerned that he forced her. She snaps that he is being judgmental about gay she wants and needs to just leave. I’m sorry, what? Because of you there is a shadow monster trying to kill him and you’re going to kick him out for being concerned that you were assaulted by another monster?? And then when we get Hudson’s POV he keeps commenting on how bad he messed up and needs to apologize. No, sir. Parker was just awful in that part, and that was the nail in the coffin for me.

The story was original and very addictive. I couldn't put it down. It had humor throughout, drama, some emotional moments, tension, steam, and more! I loved Parker. She was stronger than she thought. I was really happy to see her let her guard down and grow in the story. Hudson, Rad, and Steo were so different from each other. I loved that. The banter between them all, had me cracking up at times. The jealousy and possessiveness was top notch. Honestly, my favorite parts were the relationships between Parker and each of MMC. I think this was a great read and I was happy with the ending!
This story was very original and unique! It was unlike anything I've read yet which makes me love this even more! This was a fantastic read I couldn't put down. Parker lived a life in fear and that nearly broke me and made me cry how she didn't get close to anyone until Hudson came along. There was steamy scenes, drama, quite some tension and so much more!!! I loved how Parker is strong and witty. I loved how Hudson breaks down her walls. I loved this stunning world that was created and I kinda wish there was more because this was that good. And yes I recommend this to my friends because it's so good.
If you want a Bone Daddy, a nightmare demon, and a sweet human, please read this book. These men despise each other to begin with, but it's okay, they learn to share.... eventually....
Parker has spent her life hiding from the dark, afraid of the shadows and the monster who taunts her. She finally thinks she is free, but she gets too close to someone, and now, her monster is back ... But it feels different...and somehow, she accidentally summoned a demon who is also a bit obsessive, pair all of that with the human who won't just leave, and you have Parker's world. What to do...what to do.... What happened when suddenly you want the monster's reactions...
Parker is used to pushing everyone away because when she doesn’t they all seem to die. Enter Hudson the handsome co-worker who drives Parker home. Big mistake because the monster that has been stalking her since she was 8, now wants to kill him. Not realizing what she's doing Parker accidently summons Steo or Death, and Rad who is a nightmare demon. Things just get crazy after that. This book was filled with tons of action, a huge amount of spice and just the right amount of story. Loved it from beginning to the end, could not put it down.
So this book really took me by surprise. I really didn't know what to expect but what a unique story! It is featuring Parker and she's been chased her whole life. So much fun and the dynamic is really great! I mean darker story but with lovable guys. They are unique with being a nightmare demon, a human man who couldn't help but fall for Parker, after being taking in by the pure chaos that is Parker and another demon. All are so amazing and somehow work. Possessive guys and a nice spicy book? Then this is yours!
