Creepy, clever, and just the right amount of scary.
What if the wind whispered in Morse code? What if your shoes refused to stop running? What if a child drew a hooded stranger with his family?
Tales of the Uncanny is packed with short, bite-sized stories perfect for your lunch break, commute, or late at night with the lights off.
Blending eerie folklore, supernatural twists, and psychological chills, this collection will keep you turning the pages... and checking over your shoulder.
Perfect for fans of Shirley Jackson, Ray Bradbury, and The Twilight Zone. These stories will give you goosebumps, not nightmares.
Dare to read one before bed. You’ll be fine… probably.
Ahh, I love a collection of short fiction. Especially the speculative kind. For this review, I would like to say a few words about each story. Let’s begin…
1. The Boatman – sad and touching – a ghost story that echoes the state of the world. 2. The Prophecy – made me think – I liked the twist at the end. 3. The Hexed Shoes – love the way the bully gets his due – this is one of my favorite stories. 4. Byar – I like this one, too – I always like when the underdog has a helper. 5. Jasmine – I loved this one until the end – did I miss something? Must re-read. 6. Hospitality – Love this lyrical story. “I made an altar to you in my heart.” 7. Headphones – This author can turn a phrase and knows how to hook his reader at the same time. Case in point, this opening: “I found out my wife was cheating on me because of a pair of headphones.” This final story is an exquisite end to the collection. I believe “Headphones” may be my favorite one after all. But you know what, I may have to go back and reread them all. Just to be certain.
I wouldn't call them scary, but they sure were entertaining :D "running shoes" left me grinning rather than terrified - or at all worried for the character, for that matter. if anything, that was the drawback of these short stories - they were too abrupt to really form the bond with the protagonists or care about the misfortune that befell them. i really wouldn't have minded for the tales to develop more - i breezed through the book in one little sitting.
This is a great collection of sscary and chilling stories. If you are a fan of Stephen kingish horror. You will enjoy this. Not the same level of quality but still extremely enjoyable and entertaining.
