This is a brilliant read for anyone interested in the history behind a football club, obviously geared to fans of The Spireites ( Chesterfield FC). As a foreigner to the town and club (I originated from the northeast of the UK) the book was hugely interesting as I knew almost nothing but hearsay and rumours about the club owners, coaches etc. I learned an awful lot from the book about the people involved in the club and, more recently, the Community Trust who are involved in different aspects of the club.
It was extremely interesting to learn about the events that were happening around the club from the time I arrived in Chesterfield (2005) and the events that played out from that time. I found that I couldn't put the book down at this point as I had heard rumblings as I walked around town from fans who were either very angry at some events turning, at times, rapidly to full-on desire for the positive future for the club that was almost in reach.
Bob has put together a very readable account of the club from the time around the 1970s to the season the club regained EFL status by being promoted as National League Champions 2023/4 back to League 2 - the match against Boreham Wood that I feel very proud to have been at.
I think this book would interest any football fans, particularly the Chesterfield FC fans.
I definitely recommend the book to everyone who has an interest in the glorious game!
