The Politics of Love

Rate this book
***Second Edition Copy***

How do you find a wife for a man who lives up to his Austenian romantic hero’s name? You become her.

Hayden Bennett—campaign manager, secret anime addict, and ball of sunshine—is tasked with finding a wife for the world’s most insufferable man, A.K.A, her billionaire boss, Darcy Marshall. But in a dramatic turn of events, Darcy offers Hayden the promoted position of wife alongside a pay raise and a place to live after getting kicked out of her apartment. Hayden, regardless of her fierce independence, considers his offer thanks to her complicated past. She can be the loyal wife of a man who makes her blood boil and causes early gray hairs for a few short years, right?

Darcy Marshall found the perfect wife—his campaign manager. His poll numbers have never been higher, and he’s destined for the presidency. Home life, on the other hand, is the equivalent to driving seventy miles per hour down a street littered with potholes. Hayden Bennett may have been the perfect choice for a wife on paper, but now Darcy wonders how he will possibly spend up to eight years married to the spitfire woman who challenges him at every turn.

The Politics of Love follows two broken souls as they navigate their personal scars, the pressures of the national spotlight, and a fake (but becoming more real by the day) marriage.

My heart. 😍😭 Every so often you read a story where simply saying “I love this!” feels inadequate—this book is one of them. 💛

What did I love? Absolutely everything. This story truly has it all. Characters that leap off the page & straight into your very heart. Allllll the Pride & Prejudice vibes. Side-splitting moments. Swoony banter. True friendship. Personal & relationship growth. The political environment. I laughed, smiled, and cried by turns! I adored the original edition of this book, but the revised edition added SO MUCH DEPTH!

Hayden & Darcy’s story is one of blended perfection. There’s the right amount of light hearted moments, banter, and comedy added to the sheer amount of *depth* this tale handles. It’s masterful. It’s full of sunshine & serotonin but makes you *feel* something.

As for Hayden & Darcy themselves, I love them & their relationship so much! While they have a Darcy/Elizabeth type dynamic, they also have a tremendous amount of trust in each other, and that’s what makes them work so well together. They will draw you in, make you fall in love, leave you rooting for the them, and hopefully help you believe in love again. They did that for me & made me feel so incredibly seen. 🥹

Another thing this book does right is the pacing. Marriage of convenience is one of my favourite tropes but not when it’s rushed to get the couple to the bedroom (albeit offscreen). Here the pacing was realistic & steady & yet still swoony, which I loved.

The sheer amount of joy this book delivers is staggering. You can’t help smiling. It is truly a heart project from Drew & that is evident on every page. I’ve loved all of Drew’s books (they are amazing!), but this one claims an extra special place in my heart! 😍💛😭

* I received an ARC copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.

This is the best Drew Taylor book, hands down! Darcy and Hayden remind me so much of myself and I found myself tearing up during multiple scenes. Their slow growth from boss/coworker to friends to more was so beautiful and the ending was golden!

Highly recommend and can’t wait for more from Drew!!!!

I held off a bit on posting this, but (fingers crossed) I'm officially in the clear to ramble on about the super fantasticness of this book! I fell in LOVE with TPOC last year, and I'd been (not so) patiently waiting for the next book to come out. I literally can't be more excited that TPOL is coming so very soon!

The Politics of Love had me giggling all. the. way. through. Drew has a special knack for writing characters that are relatable and sweet, all the while having lovely personalities that all blend together into a perfect mosaic of humor, flirting, and sweetness. Seriously, this book is incredible. The marriage of convenience mixed with the grump vs sunshine trope is PERFECT! TPOL is filled with all the funnies while also touching on more serious topics that are handled in a gorgeously tasteful way.

If you fell for The Politics of Christmas, I can't even begin to express how much you'll love The Politics of Love. Drew keeps getting better and better with each book she writes. <3

Revised edition:

The Politics of Love was the first book I ever read by Drew Taylor and I fell in love with her writing at that point. I was so excited to get to read the revised edition of the story and revisit with Darcy and Hayden!

When Darcy's fiance breaks up with him, he is in need of a wife to help him win his presidential election, especially because he is young and running as an independent candidate. Hayden, his campaign manager, is tasked with the job of finding her boss a wife. When there doesn’t seem to be many suitable options, Darcy offers Hayden the position of wife along with a pay raise and a place to live.

This book is well written and the characters are so well developed that I couldn’t help but fall in love with this beautiful story. I just loved Darcy. He is such a complex character and misunderstood by most people in his life, but deep down he desperately wants someone to understand him. As an introvert, he can come across as standoffish and people interpret that as hate or disinterest. I found that side to him so relatable. Hayden on the other hand really understands his world and is the sunshine to his grump. Hayden has past traumas but carries them well and is a light in Darcy’s life, even though deep down Hayden needs someone too.

These two were just so perfect for each other I couldn’t help but feel like I was on the journey along with them. I love how their marriage started out as one based on trust and respect, but slowly grew into something real. The pacing was just perfect and the tension between them was so great. God had beautifully intertwined their lives and it was amazing to watch it unfold. It’s a story that grabs hold of your heart.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

_________________________

This is my very first book by Drew Taylor. I didn’t know much of what to expect other than seeing some teasers and knowing a few friends of mine have enjoyed her books. I am so glad I finally got to read one of her books. This was a beautiful story that I enjoyed very much!

When Darcy’s fiance breaks up with him, he is in need of a wife to help him win his presidential election. Hayden, his campaign manager is tasked with the job of finding her grumpy boss that wife. After exhausting several options Darcy offers Hayden the position of wife along with a pay raise and a place to live. Hayden, who has recently been kicked out her apartment considers his offer but can she be married and loyal to a man who makes her blood boil?

This is a modern day marriage of convenience story paired with the grumpy/sunshine and age gap romance tropes. The story was beautiful and very well done. At the beginning of the book Darcy was so grumpy and unapproachable that I couldn’t imagine myself liking his character, but as the story progresses we find out he is lonely and dealing with a lot of hurt from his past. I really enjoyed his growth and healing as Hayden starts to break through his walls and we see Darcy soften. It happens so naturally. Hayden was so kind and bright. I enjoyed her love of anime and Japanese food and how she tended to put others above herself. Both characters are well developed and I felt like I was on the journey along with them as they started to heal from their pasts. Although their marriage started out as one based on trust and respect their attraction slowly started to grow for each other and the tension between them was so great. I love watching them fall for each other. This was a perfect blend of fun scenes and heartwarming scenes so be prepared to laugh, cry, and swoon!

Things I loved:
Hayden acting like a girlfriend
Frozen reference
Ren
Stella and Hayden’s friendship
The Wedding
Paintball
Hayden helping Darcy through his anxiety attack
“My favorite household appliance is shattered on the floor”
Fourth of July ball

Content Awareness - death of siblings in the past.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

*Updated for the revised edition*
I really enjoyed The Politics of Love.

I am a sucker for a fake dating trope, and TPOL delivers with some unexpected twists.
I really enjoyed the romance without being *spicy* and the Christian perspective of the story.
The characters are well developed, and I liked the friendships as well as the love story.
There are some tigger warnings at the beginning of the work, so take heed of those if they apply. I feel like these topics make for a well-rounded and more realistic story.

The above was my review for the original edition, but I am still in love with the revised edition as well! Hayden and Darcy have great chemistry and tension. I love Hayden’s sunshine vibes contrast with Darcy’s grumpy exterior.

Would I read it again? Absolutely.
Would I recommend? 100% yes!

*I received an ARC of this novel, but these are my genuine thoughts on TPOL.

This was a very slow burn, kind of hate to love while being friends to lovers book. I had been looking forward to their book since reading The Politics of Christmas, which I thought was a fantastic second chance romance book. Drew Taylor is a great author whose romance is very sweet, Christian-tinged, and wholesome. Hayden was a unique, strong, and lovable female character, but Darcy (true to his namesake) was always saying the wrong thing. I thought their romance was very sweet, but it took a very long time for them to get there. It also was not super clear to me how

I think this is the author's best one yet...and yet I've liked them all!! But this one... This one is seriously one of a kind and I loved the political theme that made it all the more unique and was rather nostalgic for me as it brought back memories of my first election year to vote and all the excitement about following campaigns and watch parties. I'm so thrilled Drew wrote this book!

The characters were well developed with great arcs, and even the side characters fit in perfectly and added to the story. There was plenty of intrigue regarding their pasts with beautiful resolutions and lessons of truth and forgiveness.

This is a great modern day marriage of convenience story and was carried out amazingly. Be prepared to laugh over Hayden's pranks, and swoon when grumpy Darcy shows his sweet side. You will fall in love with this couple as they fall for each other.

Will love be the only victory for them, or might there be a presidency win for them too? You'll have to read to find out. :)

I am so excited to bring you the REVISED EDITION of The Politics of Love (March 4th!) <3

I wrote the original story while going through a heartbreak, and I rushed to finish the book. I did a terrible job promoting it because, deep down, I knew I wasn't satisfied with the story.

This new, revised edition, however? I am SO SATISFIED with it. It's the type of satisfaction where negative reviews won't bring me down because I am happy with the content I've produced, just as I am with all my other stories.

I hope you all enjoy the new edition!

***

What has changed?

Pretty much the entire second half of the story. There are still scenes from the original, but the timeline shifted and new material was added. Some scenes, unfortunately, no longer fit with the new story and were cut.

I kept the cover the same because I fully love it and couldn't bring myself to change it. I only added the "Revised Edition" circle to it to set it apart.

5⭐️ ARC Review: My first book by Drew Taylor, and it definitely won't be my last. I loved this! It was such a pleasant surprise that I stayed up till 1 in the morning for. I actually rated this 4.5 stars, posted my review on Instagram even, and now a couple days later, I’m changing my rating. This is definitely 5 stars, all the way.

I seriously loved everything about it, especially Hayden and Darcy. Oh be still my heart. Their love was everything you want in a romance. The flirting, the banter, the kisses, the progression in their marriage. Seriously everything. Their kisses were 🔥. The jet? The elevator? Swooning!

I really loved the faith themes, how imperfect these characters were, and how God's grace makes up the difference in their relationship.

Disclaimer real quick, I am a Christian, but have a hard time reading purely Christian romance. Especially when that’s the main focus. But in this case, Drew writes Christians and faith themes so well. It isn’t like Christianity shoved down your throat. If you’re not religious, I still think you’d enjoy this book. Very well written.

And of course, it’s a marriage of convenience. We all knew how much I would eat this up before I even started. Highly recommend.

Also random side note, but this is like a more entertaining version of Leah Brunner’s book Running Mate. Loved this one so much.

*Thank you to the author, Drew Taylor, for the complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Read if you enjoy:
- Faith themes (very light)
- Dual POV
- Marriage of convenience
- Political presidential race
- Boss x employee
- Grumpy x sunshine
- Age gap
- Autism rep (Autistic MMC)

Content 💋
- Kisses only (fade-to-black between married couple, but not explicit)
- No language

DNF at 70% because I was too uncomfortable with the content. It was closed door, but it wasn't as clean as I was expecting for a Christian fiction book. The story and writing were good aside from that.

I have been anticipating this book for a very long time. And it was worth the wait! Darcy and Hayden had chemistry I couldn't wait to explore from the glimpses I saw in her best friend's book. Not only that, but marriages of convenience for political campaigns is an obsession of mine. And I think this book just might be my new favorite of that subgenre!

These two are so great together. They have such an antagonistic alliance fueled by the grumpy-sunshine dynamic between them. I laughed out loud so many times over the shenanigans they got themselves into (and almost died of second-hand embarrassment a time or two). They were such a dichotomy between not being able to stand each other but being the only ones who understood each other. Just like the dichotomy that I was a little scared for America if these two took office, but they were still the best option. I read this book in practically one sitting because I couldn't make myself stop. The only flaw is it was too short. I could have easily read twice as many chapters about these two.

Note to more sensitive readers: the death of a child in the past.

I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

One of my favorite reads of the year and perfect for all lovers of rom-coms.

Such a good balance of humor and heart, depth and fun. This is a modern marriage of convenience paired with grumpy/sunshine, an age gap, & some great P&P references. Plus, I cannot wait to get more of Ren—he wins all the fantastic side-character awards.

Darcy and Hayden. Not a perfect couple at first glance. Maybe not even at a second but just wait. Wait for their arranged marriage - 8 years if he becomes President - and sit back and watch the fireworks. This is a brilliantly written novel which shows behind the public persona - and pulls back the curtain on relationships lived out in public. There are a few hilarious moments - when Darcy asks her to marry him for one. And, just like the authors other books, there’s a real heart to the story. Well worth a read and if you haven’t read The Politics of Christmas then consider this your push to read it before or after this one!

The political arena is not a common setting in the romance genre and I found it really refreshing. I liked the fact that Darcy had core principles and moral integrity and, as an independent candidate, the story avoided specific political allegiances. I liked Hayden's complex background and her struggle for success, so it was easy to get behind both characters and watch them fall for each other. There's some lovely swoon and dialogue and I whipped through this with great enjoyment.
I do just have two things which didn't quite sit right with me. Firstly the characters are both Christian, but neither of them seemed to express that there was anything problematic about divorce. I'm aware that there are different Christian views on marriage and divorce, but I don't think anyone would advocate intentionally going into a marriage to divorce deliberately a few years later. So I did find that was a bit of a troubling setup. Obviously the story's about how the marriage does become real, but I think it would have been good if at least one of the characters - a side character maybe - had raised questions about it. Secondly, again, linked to the fact that both characters are Christian, there wasn't really any mention of church or Christian community for either character. Darcy, the main guy, visits an orphanage every week (which is great) but it did make me think if he can put that in his diary then presumably Church is also part of his week too? Both characters profess faith and make decisions with reference to their faith... but in the absence of belonging to a church or Christian community that's visible in the book. Perhaps that's due to the fact that most of the events in the story take place in political settings rather than on the weekend or in personal lives of the characters, so I don't want to be unfair in this comment.
Even with these two points, I still really enjoyed the story and if it's being made into a drama that's super exciting.

This book! It starts off with a bang, and I wanted to know what happened next. This was so fun to read, and I got so into it that I was yelling (in my head) at the numbers while awaiting the election results. I loved loved loved the relationship between Hayden and Darcy. The repartee they had was brilliant, and they are perfect together. Even if a little digging had to be done to get to the heart of Mr. Sunshine.

And the fact that apparently the next book is about Ren??? Pure perfection! I can't WAIT!!

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Hayden & Darcy’s points of view

– there is an age gap of about 11 years between them

– Darcy deals with panic attacks

-Darcy is autistic; for him it shows in being slow to catch onto some social cues, being a bit more brisk/blunt at times, & his facial expressions either showing nothing or showing something he should probably hide (for example: not liking something)

– it is mentioned that Darcy’s sister died young (8)

– it is mentioned that Darcy’s father (now passed) had affairs while still married to his mom

– both Hayden & Darcy feel guilt over something they had no control over

– Hayden grew up in the foster care system (horrible experiences – chose to live on the streets for a time)

– it is also mentioned that a (passed) character accidentally overdosed (past event, current thoughts/hurt/feelings)

Review:

(Please note I know nothing about politics so I have no idea how everything in this book actually sounded when it came to the political talk Darcy & Hayden would converse about.)

Despite not understanding the politics aspects, I really enjoyed this story! I enjoyed getting to know why Darcy got on Hayden’s nerves and how she planned to counter his gruff/grumpiness while they were a fake couple. She made things so fun, especially when she brought the unexpected pranks & laughs to Darcy’s life! I loved getting to know Darcy & understanding that he just plain didn’t understand social cues most times when it came to talking with Hayden. I really really enjoyed getting to know Darcy’s best friend Ren and seeing him root for their relationship to be real (same with Stella & her husband). Ren was also a great comic relief & sounding board for us to be able to hear Darcy’s thoughts on the different things he came across in his developing relationship/campaign.

I am so excited to see that Ren will be getting a story next for this series!

Summary:

Hayden while thrilled to be in charge of such a big client like Darcy Marshall – current presidential candidate – she finds herself going above and beyond the typical needs of what other presidential candidates should need of their team members. She’s searching for a replacement wife to better Darcy’s chances of gaining specific votes, but ever person she approaches either doesn’t want to consider the offer of being the next possible First Lady or when they accept Darcy is the one to shoot them down as an option. She is intensely frustrated by Darcy’s gruff exterior and his audacity to expect so much while giving so few options to navigate. So when Darcy suggest that their best option has been in front of their faces this whole time, Hayden truly thinks he’s joking. Because the woman Darcy believes would be his best and most trusted wife-to-be option is none other than Hayden herself…

Darcy is thrown for a loop when the woman he expected to marry breaks off their engagement in the middle of his candidacy for the next president of the United States. With his views and stances in the bid for the position, Darcy knows that he needs to have a wife to show others that he is a good fit for the nation as a whole, but he isn’t looking for love, just trust. Which is hard to find when you are a billionaire with people all over willing to sell you out for their betterment. No matter who Darcy’s campaign manager brings him, Darcy can’t find someone that he’s willing to marry. Until it hits him when he least suspects it – what if he were to offer to pay Hayden to be his wife for the duration of his presidency (or lack of presidency) when the votes are tallied? She’d be perfect for the job, Darcy just needs to convince her…

This was a light read I went through in a go. It's also my first time reading a Drew Taylor book. It was an enjoyable read, funny at times, sweet in some ways with a delightfully scandalous moment or two between the MCs (but nothing too crazy, thankfully). It has little to no spice and is definitely not the kind of read that makes you want to bleach your mind afterwards, which I very much appreciate. And while not the central focus, or even a major focus of the book as far as I'm concerned (at least, enough to qualify it to be labelled as Christian Fiction), the characters reference God from time to time and mention praying as well as heaven, and going to church for a Sunday Service.

It's got enemies to lovers, grump x sunshine, marriage of convenience, all the while the MMC is running to become President of the United States.

I think it's worthy to note that there's a point where Hayden considers the ethics and religious correctness of the marriage of convenience she was considering, and her friend Stella tells her that biblically, people married for reasons other than love all the time, they were transactional in nature so she didn't quite think it was wrong. I have issues with that reply for a number of reasons, chief of which is the fact that marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God, not a position to be hired to fill or to be financially compensated for like any other job, not to talk of planning for divorce casually from the very beginning (which is not unlike every other fake marriage/marriage of convenience story ever done). Any professing Christian should be aware of these things and in the event that they do choose to go down that path, should not count it as okay and pleasing to God. I expected to see more of a struggle with the idea, maybe even a little show of guilt from the MCs (who are both professed Christians) but there's none of that. If they're Christians, shouldn't their concern be about pleasing God with their actions? I also held out a little hope that the author would correct that assertion at one point but she didn't, which was a little bit disappointing.
I wouldn't have raised these issues if both characters didn't claim to be Christians, since I'm familiar enough with how the trope typically goes. But since they do, I definitely need to include it in this review.

Apart from this, I did like the easy banter between Divine Princess and Killjoy (nicknames I found really cute+funny🤣)and how Darcy's (reallyyy) rough edges gradually softened as the story went on. I like how there was none of that misunderstanding business, and how they talked through things like adults (because they are!) The characters also did have an affinity for spilling/dropping things in shock, which I noticed halfway through and couldn't get over each time I noticed it happening😂 Oh and Darcy's bromance with Ren? Loveee!

To summarise, it was an enjoyable read, although the bit about biblical marriage still doesn't go down well with me. In any way, if you don't mind it and/or you're looking for something that doesn't take too much to draw you in, this is a good bet.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book of the author's that I've read and I would like to read more from her. This is book 2 in The Politics Of...Series but can be read as a standalone. The book's blurb is straightforward, though be aware the book references drug abuse, child abandonment, infidelity, and loss. The Politics of Love is told through Darcy and Hayden's pov and is a great marriage of convenience romance.

As a presidential candidate, Darcy has an image that he upholds. Because of his family upbringing, he has strong walls up. He is gruff and can be cold towards others but it's based on the fact that he doesn't know how to interact with others. While Hayden works as his campaign manager and his gruffness has gotten to her a couple of times, she isn't scared to stand up to him when need be. She tells him like it is and challenges him. Her attitude makes Darcy believe that she's the perfect candidate to be his wife. Entering a marriage of convenience has benefits for both and, as they spend more time together, they get to see a side of the other that they hadn't seen before.

While they weren't enemies, their different personalities made them clash. Darcy was a grump, especially when he felt his defenses lowering, and Hayden was friendlier but no pushover. I liked the way that they unintentionally got under each other's skin. They weren't being spiteful or anything towards each other but definitely got the other to think about how they interacted. I also enjoyed seeing them grow close and appreciate the other. Their romance was a slow burn and there is an age gap between them. The romance is also a closed door one consisting of fade to black and no foul language. There are faith elements throughout the story and I liked how it shaped the characters. Overall, this is an easy and enjoyable read that I think others will like too.

3 Stars.

🇺🇸 The vibes:
- political romance
- Marriage of convenience
- Biracial couple
- Closed door

🇺🇸 My thoughts:
Darcy is running for president as an independent and Hayden is his campaign manager. When Darcy is left single leading up to election, he needs to find a wife stat if he wants to maintain the Republican vote.

This was a closed door political romance. While it’s not necessarily Christian fiction, the characters are Christians so this is part of their characters which I thought was nice to see.

Things I liked:
I really liked Darcy’s mom. She seemed very sweet. I liked seeing Stella again. And I did enjoy the cute moment that we got between Hayden and Darcy at the hotel when he pranked her. I liked seeing faith elements that were just organically there and not part of the plot per se.

While I enjoyed parts of both characters, I didn’t feel like I knew either one of them. I know that Darcy was cold to many people and definitely came across as an introvert. There’s also several mentions that he doesn’t understand how to communicate with people or understand social cues. But it’s not totally explored or explained if there’s more going on there. As for Hayden- she’s clumsy. Very clumsy. This was her most prominent quality throughout the book.

Overall, there was some repetitive phrasing throughout (ie man behind the mask or Hayden’s clumsiness) I also wish that there were less time jumps with reflections and more of us being in those moments as they were happening. There were some really cute things mentioned that happened between the couple but we didn’t get to experience it and I would’ve loved that.

Read this if you’re looking for a slow slow slowwwww burn political romance with a marriage of convenience trope.

This updated version is everything and more. Darcy Marshall has my vote!

I've never kept it a secret that I am moderately obsessed with Pride and Prejudice. The Politics of Love gives us all the Elizabeth and Darcy vibes without being a modern retelling, and I loved it. There is the recognizable millionaire who sticks his foot in his mouth repeatedly and the strong-willed, self-made woman, but the similarities end there. This story is unique and interesting, and I can't think of a single story out there like it.

With autism and minority representation done well, Drew highlights cultural concerns with well written sensitivity. Two seemingly opposite characters who really are two halves of a whole, and the slow burn romance leading from trust to love felt so natural.

"Why did it have to be the most obnoxious, stubborn woman that I fell in trust with?"

I loved the best friends, Stella (from The Politics of Christmas) and Ren, very actively cheering on the unlikely romance from the sidelines. Neither of them believe that a political marriage of convenience will outlast the natures of Hayden and Darcy. (Spoiler... it doesn't 😉) With Darcy's political adversary providing much of the tension, Hayden and Darcy are able to overcome their beginnings and pasts to unite as America's hopeful President and First Lady.

“Say no more. You’re here for one job? Here’s a job for you: Be my wife.”

With no miscommunication and no third act breakup, the path to HEA still wasn't an easy one, but I loved the ride getting there. Drew is the queen at giving us realistic, flawed characters and stories with elements of faith that always leave me wanting more.

Trust me, you're going to want to snag this one for yourself.

The Politics of Love took me on a rollercoaster ride of banter, political intrigue, and a marriage of convenience that slowly morphed into something real. As an international reader, I appreciated how the book subtly helped me understand American politics without feeling overwhelmed. But beyond the political backdrop, it was the emotional depth, the slow-burn romance, and the beautifully flawed characters that truly stole my heart.

The Pride & Prejudice nods were a delight—Darcy Marshall, the grumpy yet brilliant politician, and Hayden Bennett, his sunshine-filled yet sharp-tongued campaign manager, had the kind of chemistry that made me live for their arguments. Their banter was gold, their tension electric, and their nicknames for each other—Divine Princess and Killjoy—were just the cherry on top. Watching them navigate a fake marriage while wrestling with personal trauma made for an engaging, heartfelt read.

I also loved the unique storytelling elements, especially the Pop Culture Now news flash graphics. They added a fresh, immersive touch to the narrative. And while I’m not an anime fan, I found the My Hero Academia references to be a fun addition that anime lovers will definitely enjoy. Plus, their quirky friends provided such heartwarming support—it was impossible not to love them.

If I had one critique, it would be the cover design—I think it could be a lot stronger given how fantastic the story is. But the title? Absolutely captivating.

Overall, The Politics of Love is a beautifully crafted romance that blends humor, deep emotions, and a touch of fate. If you love the enemies-to-lovers trope, grumpy x sunshine dynamics, and emotionally rich storytelling, this book is for you. An easy 5-star read!

Oh my star spangled banner! What an absolutely perfect marriage of convenience romcom!
I loved Hayden in The Politics of Christmas, and it was a pleasure to get her backstory, and see her find love!
I ADORED Darcy! And I so appreciated getting to see the struggles he faces being on the autism spectrum, and running for the highest office in our nation. How incredibly brave and courageous is this man?! I wish he was real so I could vote for him!
One of my favorite things about this book was Darcy and Hayden together! I absolutely loved the way their personalities complemented each other, and how they wholeheartedly supported each other through good and bad!
And the kisses, oh my swoon! Those scenes made my heart give a little happy sigh!
The faith story in this book was amazing, and spoke to me deeply!
Drew Taylor is a master wordsmith and I love the way she immediately gets me invested in the story, and beautifully speaks truth to my heart while simultaneously making me forget I’m reading!
The storyline of this book was excellent, and there were a couple twists I didn’t expect! Loved that!
With The Politics of Love Drew Taylor has even more deeply engraved her name on my list of favorite authors! I cannot wait to complete her backlist, and am eagerly anticipating all of her upcoming releases!
This book was a joy to read and I most highly recommend it!

Note: if you’re like me and politics are just not your jam don’t let that scare you away from reading this book. The political element was very light and did not in any way impact my enjoyment of this wonderful story!

Even though I have said - or at least thought it - with every new book I read by the author, I think The Politics of Love is my new favorite Drew Taylor book!

The characters were just wonderful, absolutely relatable in their uniqueness and both main and side characters were well developed. I loved how we learned to understand Hayden and Darcy better through their inner voice but also through the other one.

Hayden and Darcy are the perfect grumpy/sunshine pairing. They had great chemistry, but it’s definitely not an insta love situation. They don't even realize they are falling for each other at first but it’s so very sweet when they do!

I absolutely loved their first kiss - perfection!

I often have mixed feelings about marriage of convenience stories, especially when it’s just for show. But Drew gave me something to think about:

“Do you think it would be morally wrong for me to marry him and then dissolve the marriage after everything is said and done?”
Stella contemplates this [...]
“Biblically, they married for reasons other than love all the time. Marriages were often transactional in nature. I don’t think that it’s wrong. But if you were to consummate the marriage and then–”

I’m not sure if this is completely true, but I really appreciate that Drew addressed this question.

But obviously this marriage of convenience transforms the relationship between Hayden and Darcy from boss - employee to friends to lovers and I loved every part of their love story!

They both have great character arcs. They learn to forgive themselves, to open up, to trust, to love.

“Why did it have to be the most obnoxious, stubborn woman that I fell in trust with?”

It’s really a beautiful story. It’s sweet and funny and I 100% recommend it!

Wow, what an absolutely incredible book! The Politics of Love is a witty, enemies-to-lovers, marriage-of-convenience romance that blends humor, emotional depth, and sizzling tension perfectly. From the very first page, I was hooked!

Hayden Bennett is a campaign manager with a complicated past and a fiercely independent streak. When her billionaire boss, Darcy Marshall, offers her the promotion of a lifetime—a fake marriage that could lead him straight to the presidency—she reluctantly agrees. But the more time they spend together, the harder it becomes to tell where the act ends and the real feelings begin.

This book gave me Pride and Prejudice vibes (even though I’ve never read or watched it!)—the chemistry and banter between Hayden and Darcy were off the charts! I adored the slow-burn romance—it was perfectly paced, allowing their relationship to unfold naturally without being rushed. The emotional depth? Impeccable. Both Hayden and Darcy have scars from their pasts, and watching them grow and heal together was so heartwarming.

Strong themes of forgiveness, redemption, and personal growth are woven beautifully throughout the story. The Christian perspective added so much depth without being overbearing. And despite not knowing much about American politics as a Canadian, I was fully invested in every moment!

This revised second edition was a total win. It had me laughing, swooning, and clutching my heart. Hayden and Darcy’s journey is one I won’t forget anytime soon. If you love marriage-of-convenience, witty banter, and heartfelt romance, this is the book for you!
Thank you to the author for the ARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
