The Sundering Duet #1

Demonic Division

Rate this book
Dagny Olavera had no idea that saving a sweet little bunny would lead to her being kidnapped, imprisoned, and bound to five of the most powerful and possessive demons in The Far Place.

More importantly, Dagny had no way to know the creatures she feared all her life could be so protective, loving, and enticing—especially when they call her mine.

The longer she stays in The Far Place, the deeper the bond grows, and the more her heart thaws. But with the fire comes the burn, and when lines become blurred, Dagny will realize that while her demonic mates are gorgeous and caring, they also have a dark side—secrets that can never be shared, and all of them deadly.

But Dagny has secrets of her own.

When a strange new power awakens and her lineage is revealed, Dagny will have to make a remain in this strange land and risk her life, or try to find a way back home and forget magic ever existed—that is, if her vicious mates will let her.

She only knows one thing for if she stays, she will surely break.

But she won’t be the only one.

This is a perfectly demonic WHY CHOOSE. Each MMC is so distinct and unique and I need one of each. And don’t get me started on their ADORABLE familiars. Bo the bunny, Nya the devilish kitten and Honey the bear have my heart. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

“She’s lovely. A pretty little light to snuff out. To consume.”

“If you can fear, you can also be brave.”

“Because even if I’m in the arms of my killer, it’s more comfortable than I’ve ever been.”

I was hooked from the beginning! The plot sucks you in and then the spice keeps you. Mix in a solid plot that makes you wonder what’s going to happen next and I couldn’t get enough!

I don't know what I excepted when picking up this book, but Mindy does not disappoint.
Demonic Division is a why choose, demon shifter paranormal romance that is SUCH a good fast paced read. IT DOES END ON A CLIFFY!! I am currently begging Mindy to just give me book 2 now LOL.
Human girl meets 6 demons...that may or may not be her mates! I also LOVE that they each had their own little bonded animal.

While Dagny has so many questions about what this means for her, but the demons have their own problems like...someone starting a war in their world.

and in true Mindy Paige fashion there was a lot of build up to the spice, but holy hell was it hot...and my man Cyprien has a breeding kink and I AM HERE FOR IT!

I wanted to love this so much more than I did because the cover is stunninggggggggg however… it did fall flat for me.

It took a while to get into and, for a lot of it, I felt like nothing was actually happening? It for sure picks up in the last 15-20% but by then, I just wanted the book to be over; I don’t think I will be reading the next one 😬

Dagny (FMC) is alone in life until she stumbles across a bunny that changes her life. She’s taken to a new world and meets a handful of demons all fighting for something but not knowing the real story or what is really going on.

For the sake her survival, she does the best she can given the circumstances but that all seems like it was for nothing given the revelation at the end of the book.

Dagny has no idea that saving a sweet, injured bunny can change her entire life. She unknowingly instead saved a demons familiar and bonded with it, and now he's coming for her. Can she survive what he and his fellow demons have in store for her?

*****

This one took me a little bit to get into. It started off a little stilted and cheesy, and if I didn't know from other reviews that it would get better, I may not have pushed past the first two chapters. I'm extremely glad I did though because this one is addictive! The pacing was quick, we get moments of the FMC falling apart and submitting to her fragility, while also leaning into her strengths and pushing for freedom. I'm loving that we get nods to her being a chosen one and having hidden magic, yet don't yet get to know when or how that will fully come into play.

Seeing how the bond affects her as well as the other demons, and knowing that M and her are close at this moment in time, leads to some pretty interesting options moving forward in book 2. I don't mind that we ended on a cliffhanger because I genuinely can't wait to see how the author ends up pulling together the remaining leads!

If you want a fast-paced and spicy demon reverse harem, with a few twists and turns, this one's for you!

Did I have some extra cuddle time with our own pet bunny this morning in hopes of attracting a certain demon? Maybe…

It took me a few chapters to get into the story and the world but when I did I was obsessed. Demons with cute familiars, who all obsess over the same human girl, what is not to love?
Like other books by Mindy I devoured this book in two days.
It ends on a cliffhanger but thankfully book 2 is only a month away. Because I NEED to find out what happens next

And in this one she said, why have 1 when you can have 5 😈
This is part 1 of a duet and if part 2 wasn't coming so soon I would be rioting because I am not okay.

Demonic Division" by Mindy Paige is an enchanting paranormal romance that completely swept me away with its unique take on demon shifters and fated mates. The story follows Dagny, whose simple act of kindness toward a bunny leads her into a world she never imagined – The Far Place, where she becomes bound to five powerful and complex demons.

What truly sets this book apart is the skillful way Paige develops each demon's distinct personality and their emotional representations. From Cyprien's embodiment of joy with his adorable bunny familiar Bo 🐰, to Lir's representation of grief, each demon brings a unique dynamic to the story. The concept of the familiars was particularly well-executed, adding an extra layer of depth to each character and creating some truly heartwarming moments.

The world-building is rich and immersive, with The Far Place feeling both alien and eerily beautiful. The gradual revelation of Dagny's own powers and lineage adds an intriguing mystery element that kept me turning pages well into the night. The chemistry between Dagny and her demons is electric, and watching their relationships develop - from initial fear and mistrust to deeper connections - felt authentic and earned.

I particularly appreciated how the author balanced the darker elements of the story with moments of tenderness and humor. The emotional complexity of each character, especially when we discover that each demon represents a different aspect of emotion (logic, joy, grief, fear, and jealousy), adds fascinating psychological depth to their interactions.

The story ends on a cliffhanger that left me desperately wanting more, but in the best possible way. It's clear that the revelations and complications introduced in this first book are setting up for an even more intense sequel. 🔮

If you enjoy dark paranormal romance with complex characters, fascinating world-building, and a dash of mystery, "Demonic Division" is an absolute must-read. Just be prepared - you'll be counting down the days until the sequel once you finish this one!

Dagny had grown up hearing tales of demons in the woods but had put them down as dark fairytales so when she rescued an innocent little bunny from the jaws of death, she didn’t think for one second the bizarre and dangerous twist her life would take. It turned out Mr Flopsy was a little bit more on the rabid than cuddly side and the familiar for a demon who, after discovering she’s been bitten by the bunny that triggered something between them, abducted Darby taking her to his home, which was a reverse version of hell only instead of burning fires think freezing temps, known as the Far Place, and where she was instantly thrust into a dark dungeon and not the nice kinky kind.

Demonic Division was the first book in a dark, reverse harem duet as Dagny finds herself attracted to five demons, each one with their own distinct personality who find themselves drawn to her albeit reluctantly for some of them as they’re in the verge of an impending war. They veer between worshipping her or tossing her into solitary confinement…. well, she does have a cell mate in the dungeon, the mysterious M, another demon, tortured by the others who drip feeds her information about the bizarre world she’s found herself in but who also leaves her with more questions than answers. M does seem to know a lot more about Dagny and why she’s the human version of catnip to their captors. The spice was seriously sizzling, on the Scoville scale we’re talking Carolina Reaper with one of the demons having a distinct breeding kink, something that’s supposedly impossible with a human but all roads are leading to Dagny being something else so watch this space. Right now, I’m totally confused about what’s going on and honestly, I think this is one of those duet’s where I would have preferred to wait for both books to be available before I started reading but I know can’t wait to find out.

Mindy, my sweet, sweet mindy. I feel like you just broke up with me, and I don't like this. Not one bit. I'm half tempted to lie and say this book sucked just because I'm an empath and care about yall but alas I cannot *sighs* this book was actually crack as is all of my Mindys books and for that sole reason alone, I'll say this, read it and hurt with me. I feel like I'm going through my own enimies to lovers moment rn. Except we're back to enimies, lol. Seriously, my heart and mind are racing a mile a minute. I can't think straight. My head is filled with so much it knows NOTHING. And you're telling me I have to wait until the middle of fucking APRIL!? That's some utter bullshit right there. Complete utter blasphemy.

In fact, I may just have to yell, cry, and complain to Mindy some more rn bc that was some horseshit lol. I mean, it was beautiful and chaotic and mind boggling but also some serious fuckery was going on. Especially in those last like 10 chapters. That was insane and I still can't cope or think. Oh! And get this bullshit, this was the first book I knew NOTHING about, like I can almost always guess what's to happen in a book and this one pushed me to the absolute max and I still knew FUCKING NOTHING. I GUESSED NOTHING FUCKING RIGHT IN THIS BOOK! LIKE CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS SHIT!?!?

*Clears throat* ahem, ahem, sorry about that. Didn't mean to shout (yes I did) anyways, 5 stars for this bitch of a book⭐️ so like yeah, you should totally read this book like right fucking now and then idk maybe message me your reactions or something

You ever see those reels where some is sliding on ice for a solid 2 minutes until they eventually fall on their face? That is some how the feeling I get every time I read a Mindy Paige book. It takes me a hot minute to get into the book because usually the setting is unique and I wasn’t prepared for it! Then I start sliding and getting into the book. Only to be met with the inevitable, falling on my face when the book ends. Yet I get back up and say “ok next book and next slide.” I absolutely love the writing style behind Mindy Paige.

Author Mindy Paige has yet again written a book that really catches your attention but also leaves you with the curiosity of where this will take us. I felt like I enjoyed every minute of this journey but that is truly because of the writing style that Mindy brings to the table. She has this way of taking her time to get your attention but once she has it, she wont let go. Even long after the book is finished, you will be thinking about it. Shoot I am still thinking about her last book and that was released last year in the fall.

If you like fantasy meets dark, then this is definitely a book for you. I don’t feel like this was horribly dark to the point of being scared, even though the name says Demonic. I have personally read some darker books but this definitely is a dark romance book mixed with fantasy. So if you like men who fly, are obsessive, love deeply and say “mine” then this is your book. There is a second book coming out soon, so keep your eye out for this one as well!!

How saving an injured rabbit lands you in a frozen wasteland filled with demons

Dagny Olavera is barely scraping by in life but enjoys working with the animals. When one of the dogs escapes she chases it into the woods and finds it with an injured rabbit in it's mouth. Of course she has to save the rabbit and it needs to be watched all night so she takes it home. This is where everything goes a bit wonky for her. You see this is not a normal rabbit and it has managed to claim her.

Next thing she knows there is a demon throwing her through a portal and nearly killing her. What could be worse? Well buckle up because nothing is going to be easy for sweet Dagny.

Bonded to a demon - check
Nearly freezing to death - check
Meeting the angry king demon who seems to immediately hate you - check
Thrown into a freezing dungeon without food and water - check check
Meeting another scary demon in the dungeon - check
Fearing this is how you die - check

Of course nothing is ever quite what it seems. Being drawn to multiple demons and every time you are close strengthens the bond can be very confusing for all parties involved. Of course once a bond is fully formed the bedroom fun begins.

However, there are so many other things in play you will be left reeling. I still have so many questions and absolutely need to read part two because absolutely nothing is okay right now. So many plots and twist and turns to unravel.

This book was something else entirely. It has been a hot minute since I read a steamy demon romance book, and Demonic Division is book 1 of 2, and damn was it good. I had no idea what to expect, I saw why I chose and said no more information needed to be honest!

The book follows a mortal named Dagny who after helping a Bunny gets stolen away from her home by the demon connected to that bunny and taken to a demon realm which I did not expect whatsoever and apparently she is mated to this demon. Only when she is there she further discovers that she has more demon mates and everything is not as simple as she may have envisioned.

I loved all of the demons we met along the way. They were all so unique in their own way, and I feel they would all bring something else to the eventual relationship. I feel in particular a demon who introduced himself as "M" when some of the other demons threw Dagny in the dungeon for whatever reason which was where they were keeping this "M", something about him was so intriguing and I found that more at the end of the book as well.

This is such a good first book for the duet, and I need the second book pronto and see where everything leads. I can't wait to read more and discover more about all of our main characters and hopefully not have so many bumps along the road to finally reach our HEA!!

This is the first book in The Sundering Duet and I'm really hoping that it won't be too long before I can get my hands on book 2, as this was such a great read.

Now, I don't really know what I was expecting - this was my first read by this author, so had no prior knowledge of the writing style or genre - and I never read blurbs!

But this gorgeous front cover made me grab this with both hands!

And what a ride it was!

I'm giving no spoilers so if you want to know plot info, then go ahead and read the blurb...

But this was such a great storyline which obviously, being a duet, leaves us on a cliffhanger ....which absolutely makes me desperate to grab book 2!!

I loved all the characters so much - we're looking at a why choose read, so there's a few different personalities to get to grips with - oh ....and they all have their dark sides too!

I especially adored all the familiars! Fluffy kittens and bunnies! A perfect balance to the demons themselves!

The build up to those spicy moments was tense, but oh so worthwhile!

These were brilliantly written into a really intense storyline, so not to overpower, just add layers!

This was a fast-paced, well written read that had me from the start, immersed me throughout and then left me hanging to finish!.....I need book 2 now......

What could possibly go wrong with helping an injured bunny? For Dagny, the answer is everything. Demonic Division is an absolutely wild, addictive ride that had me hooked from the very first page.

After being taken to The Far Place, Dagny finds herself at the mercy of five demons—each with a unique temperament and level of resistance (or lack thereof) to their overwhelming desire for her. The tension between them crackles with intensity, and I ate up every second of it.

But passion isn’t the only thing simmering beneath the surface. This world is anything but safe, and Dagny is caught in a dangerous game of secrets and lies. Who can she trust? Who is telling the truth? The answers are murky at best, and every revelation adds another layer of intrigue.

With concealed identities, off-the-charts spice, and a steady stream of deception, Demonic Division is a hypnotic, spellbinding read. And that ending? I need book two now!

Special thanks to the author and The Author Agency for the gifted copy 🖤

*using the same review for both books in the duet so I don’t spoil anything for anybody*

With a unique and intricate plot that didn’t leave me feeling like I needed a doctorate degree to keep up with, I was hooked from page 1 of Demonic Division. I absolutely adored Dagney, being introduced to her men, and starting to learn the magic system. The end of that story left us on a cliffhanger that led seamlessly into part 2, Demonic Descension.

I thought this duet was so well-balanced. There are fantastic spice scenes that furthered dagney’s relationships with the men but also make you feel like you’ll burst into your own wildfire. 😉 But there’s also an amazing emotional depth and level of self discovery, along with a unique magic system.

I was worried I might feel confused with so many men in this why choose, and I don’t know how she did it, but Mindy Paige managed to give each male a different voice and personality entirely so I wasn’t confused about who was who or what they were doing. I also loved the competitive nature amongst the men and the hilarious banter.

If you haven’t read a Mindy Paige book yet, you’re absolutely missing out! I always have the best time reading her books and they stick with me long after I’ve put them down.

Thank you to Mindy Paige and her PA Nikki for the opportunity to arc read this duet!

This is truly 3.5 stars for me. And if I’m honest, I’ll possibly come back after reading the second one and bump it up to 4 stars.

There is a lot going on here and it’s a bit confusing and overwhelming. The writing is spectacular and the world building is next level, but there’s just SO MUCH that I spent most of the book feeling lost and unsure of what I was reading. Maybe that was the intention?

This is written in multiple POV, but there’s so many characters I felt like I never really got to know or got a firm grasp on any of them. And that’s important for me so that I become invested in them and care what happens to them. Because of this I never felt truly connected to them or the story.

It started as feeling like a true fantasy, but quickly dove into romantasy and surprised me with super spicy spice. Like some of the spiciest I’ve read. I would give the spice in this book 4.5 out of 5.

I hate cliffhangers but I knew it was coming. It is what it is. Parts of the book were slow, but I never stopped reading so that says something. Hoping it all comes together in book two.

Demonic Division is a dark why-choose, demon shifter paranormal romance and it's book 1 in The Sundering Duet.

The story follows Dagny, who saves a Demon familiar and bonds with it, and now its Demon steals her away and she finds herself imprisoned in The Far Place at the mercy of five demons, each with varying level of resistance to their overwhelming desire for her.

As they work on finding answers to the bond, the tension crackles with so much intensity, and when resistance fails and the steam came, it sure was scorching.

As the story progressed, we are introduced to each of the characters who form the harem. Each Demon brought something different to the story and were all interesting in their own right.

The plot was fast-paced and we learned something new in each chapter. With unexpected twists and turns, secrets, deception, and intrigue, the novel was an entertaining tale. It ends in a cliff-hanger and I can't wait for book two. I would definitely recommend it to lovers of why choose paranormal romance.

A big thank you to The Author Agency and author Mindy Paige for gifting me a copy of Demonic Division. 🖤 This is my honest review:

🖤 Demon Shifters
🖤 Multiple POV
🖤 Why Choose
🖤 Fated Mates
🖤 Parallel Worlds

This was giving Beauty and the Beast vibes, but with more than one beast and a lot darker. I felt that Dagny was experiencing Stockholm Syndrome. She gets kidnapped by demons and taken to The Far Place where she is imprisoned in a literal cell. Even after they free her from the cell she is basically trapped. And then she is bonded with the demons and they become her mates. There is a lot of back and forth between lust and hate almost like Dagny is under a spell.

At the beginning of the book I felt hooked, I was excited to continue on and learn more about Dagny and her demons. In the middle and most of the ending I was bored, a little confused and wanting to DNF. However, I pushed through and thought the ending was great. I was t surprised but I was excited to finally get a conclusion.

🌟 2.2

I don’t know the word for it, but transferring the words on paper to the movie in my head was choppy and jarring. Multiple times I had to backtrack a scene because the mental image didn’t make sense or match up to where I thought they were.

I did not like and could not connect with the fmc. She’s taking terrified breaths one moment but in the next she acknowledges she’s not terrified at all. She sticks her head in the sand because she doesn’t want to acknowledge the bad barrelling towards her. Her reactions were not ones I would have done.

There is minimal tension, we’re just rushed into multiple insta-love situations, and while that’s ok for some, I’m really not an insta-love girl.

I don’t understand why she should take this demon’s word over this other one.

It’s all rushed, no/minimal plot, it’s just demons who can’t make up their minds, all condensed into a fairly short book.

I have a suspicion I read this book because the men had familiars. They were cute btw.

Mostly though, the writing style, approach to scenes, and character development was not for me.

This book is fire! Oh my Gosh! The way I literally dropped everything else just fo finish reading this book. Yeah that's how much I got into it. I really really am not a fan of slow-burn and this book, WOW!! This book moved in the perfect pace - not too fast nor too slow. When I first started reading, I was so confused(because I'm dumb) but then, I started getting the hang of it and I loved it. I really love how Dagny always stays strong and how she always tried to help Cyprien, Lir, Roark, Kaebl and M. I love how none of them fought over her and always treated her with so much love and gentleness. I honestly am so mad at M for lying and being a traitor, I literally had to go take a walk.
I'm looking so forward to reading the second book and PLEASE MINDYYYY, release it ASAP!! I'm literally begging you. It literally hurts to wait for what happens next but I guess patience is the key:)
Ergo: This book DELIVERED! I definitely definitely highly highly recommend!

This one took me a minute to get into! The opening felt a little slow, and if I hadn’t seen others raving about it, I might have put it down. But wow, am I glad I didn’t. Once the tension kicked in, I was completely hooked! The chemistry between Dagny and the two enigmatic musicians is electric, and the way the author weaves music into the magic system? Absolutely stunning.

Dagny’s journey felt so raw—she's not just thrown into this world; she’s fighting to understand it while still holding onto who she is. The slow unraveling of secrets, the push and pull between trust and deception, and that constant feeling of something more kept me flipping pages way too late at night.

And that ending?? Normally, I hate cliffhangers, but this one was so well done that I don’t even care—I need book two now.

If you love slow-burn tension, fate-driven romance, and a touch of musical magic, Sundering Duet will absolutely consume you!

I. Am. Done! I knew I was going to love this book because of the blurb and the author, but I was NOT expecting to be so mesmerized. Y'all, this book grabbed hold of me and did NOT let up! AND THAT ENDING!!! I may have yelled a bit. Or a lot.

Dagny was just trying to help a bunny. She had no idea that fuzzy familiar was going to change her life forever! Now she's stuck in The Far Place, a place only told about in stories. It's a lot colder than she thought a place like that would be. Oh, and there are a bunch of demons there that claim she's their mate....

Now Dagny has to figure out a way out before whatever is coming for the demons arrives...

What a ride! I had a full on running commentary as I read. So, so good!

So, where can I sign up for super hot demon mates? I will gladly help a cute bunny in the forest if I get swept away to a demon kingdom!! But seriously, this book!!! Oh my goodness, this book! I knew I was going to love it, and it completely blew me away! I couldn't stop reading this book, it consumed me! I absolutely loved the different personalities and mannerisms of each of the demons, and I loved how they each interacted with Dagny. The plot was so good, and the twists in it were completely surprising. I did not see any of that coming at all. I also can't decide which demon is my favorite, they're all so good. Ok, I lied, I'm still on the fence about M. But you have to read this, I won't spoil anything by talking more about M. I also need the next book like I need air because that cliffhanger did me in. Read this book!

I was sold from the first sentence and devoured this book! If you haven’t read any of Mindy’s books before you’re in for a real treat because this woman can write spice! Now she’s writing why choose and it’s even hotter than you think! One thing I love about Mindy’s books is they start off so strong hooking you immediately and the pace of the book does not let up. You’ll be flying through the pages trying to see what happens next. I absolutely loved how unique the story line was and how each demon had such a different personality. However let me warn you that this ending will make you want to yell! I need the next book! There’s so much happening and I know the next installment will be even better!! If you’re looking for a hot paranormal romance with a heck of a plot this is the book for you!

I don’t even know where to begin with this review. This book was not what I expected going in (I’ll be honest and admit I went in a bit blind cus it’s more fun that way) but it was everything I needed.

This book is a dark, why choose story with a human FMC and demon MMCs. While I will confirm that there is one FMC, I will not confirm exactly how many MMCs there are because, honestly, that discovery is half the fun. It had a bit of a slow burn going but once it heated up, the spice DID NOT STOP.

Now let’s chat about that cliffhanger. I am so glad that I do not have to wait long for book 2 (April) because I am strong over here for answers. The twists just kept hitting for the last 15% of the book that had me ending the book on a gasp and my jaw on the damn ground.

This was my first Mindy Paige book and I need to go back and read her entire catalogue immediately.

I love a strong FMC. Dagny may not know why she is bonded to the guys and finds herself in uncharted territory, but she never backs down. She is a fighter.

I loved all of the guys, but I do have to say that I have a soft spot for Cyprien aka Cyppy. Only Dagny can get away with calling Cyprien this cute nickname. There are so many spicy moments in this book that I can't really pick a favorite. Although, that one with Cyprien, Lir, and Dagny that happened early on in the story before all the other guys is a good scene for sure. Got my temperature rising.

I laughed out loud with this line..."I already called her bunny for her nickname, so you have to pick something else.", Cyprien saying to Roark.

The story really picked up in the last third of the storyline. The mysterious M. After dropping the bombshell, I need book two now. I am bonded to this book. It is a must, must read!
