Chris Wright thought life couldn’t get any better.
His debut novel is gaining traction, he’s built a comfortable life with Mia, and everything seems to be falling into place—until Hollywood comes calling. An indie studio wants to adapt his book, but there’s one he has to co-write the screenplay with their in-house writer, Zooey.
Zooey is sharp, demanding, and impossible to read. From the moment they meet, the sparks fly—some from friction, some from something else entirely. She pushes Chris in ways he never expected, testing his patience, his talent, and his ability to ignore how badly he wants her.
He thought proving himself as a writer was his biggest challenge. Now, he’s caught in a story he never saw coming.
I really enjoyed this book and was excited to read it right after volume one. I have read an embarrassing amount of books in this genre, most are just kind of mindless fantasy. This series does a really great job building a relationship between the main characters that I love. It is heartwarming and unconditional. The sex is all well written and gets a little kinky which I appreciate. I guess I am the kind of guy that really wants the underdog to get the girl (or girls in this case) over come some adversity and live happily ever after. I wish more books were this well fleshed out. All the lite details and factoids sprinkled throughout were amazing.
This one is in the same vein as book 1, but even better. The addition of Zooey, and the relationship that builds there between the three of them is very enjoyable and feels somewhat organic. There's a little bit of cycling through the same problems over and over again, both between the two books as well as within the book itself. But it still was a hard book to put down - the three main characters are very compelling and enjoyable, the writing is mostly error free, and is very evocative and immersive. All in all, it was a very entertaining and happy read. I'm looking forwards to book 3 (and more, I'd imagine)
Thoroughly enjoyed this second book of the series. I particularly enjoyed watching the main characters develop and evolve. The story arc kept my attention, even the minor elements, like what to name the kitten, was entertaining and felt natural. The pace of the story was well balanced and did well to move the overall story forward. The drama each of the main characters faced had a natural feel to it and I think most readers will be able to relate. The initiate seems were well crafted and the description advanced the visual and emotional aspects of the intimate scenes without getting cliche. I am looking forward to reading the next book of the series.
I liked book 1, but this book didn't hit quite as well for me.
► I found it hard to relate to the protagonists struggles with writing, confidence, and writer's block. ► I didn't think the romance between the protagonist and the second love interest was sold quite as well ► I didn't think the second love interest was as fully developed as a character as the first one; her personality traits were less distinct. ► Tonally the book was a fair bit less cozy, even if it still had a happy ending.
I love all the characters in this book (except Mia's mom). The plot felt very naturally developed, and it is very easy to fly through this book. Books like these are always a great reminder that you don't always need some epic action or plot twist to have an amazing book.
Side by Side: A Cozy Slice of Life is more than a great read. It is an adventure in life. It’s beyond just a fictitious story. It transcends from a great read to inspiring the reader to want to be better. The characters definitely fit and complement each other. I’m looking forward to this continuing saga! Keep it coming JT!
What a great slice of life! Normally this type of story has me getting quickly to the end, but Knight had me thoroughly enjoying the sequences and descriptions. A very well written description of life and consequences.
