Jason Aaron grew up in a small town in Alabama. His cousin, Gustav Hasford, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, on which the feature film Full Metal Jacket was based, was a large influence on Aaron. Aaron decided he wanted to write comics as a child, and though his father was skeptical when Aaron informed him of this aspiration, his mother took Aaron to drug stores, where he would purchase books from spinner racks, some of which he still owns today.

Aaron's career in comics began in 2001 when he won a Marvel Comics talent search contest with an eight-page Wolverine back-up story script. The story, which was published in Wolverine #175 (June 2002), gave him the opportunity to pitch subsequent ideas to editors.

In 2006, Aaron made a blind submission to DC/Vertigo, who published his first major work, the Vietnam War story The Other Side which was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Miniseries, and which Aaron regards as the "second time" he broke into the industry.

Following this, Vertigo asked him to pitch other ideas, which led to the series Scalped, a creator-owned series set on the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation and published by DC/Vertigo.

In 2007, Aaron wrote Ripclaw: Pilot Season for Top Cow Productions. Later that year, Marvel editor Axel Alonso, who was impressed by The Other Side and Scalped, hired Aaron to write issues of Wolverine, Black Panther and eventually, an extended run on Ghost Rider that began in April 2008. His continued work on Black Panther also included a tie-in to the company-wide crossover storyline along with a "Secret Invasion" with David Lapham in 2009.

In January 2008, he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, though it would not affect his work on Scalped. Later that July, he wrote the Penguin issue of The Joker's Asylum.

After a 4-issue stint on Wolverine in 2007, Aaron returned to the character with the ongoing series Wolverine: Weapon X, launched to coincide with the feature film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Aaron commented, "With Wolverine: Weapon X we'll be trying to mix things up like that from arc to arc, so the first arc is a typical sort of black ops story but the second arc will jump right into the middle of a completely different genre," In 2010, the series was relaunched once again as simply Wolverine. He followed this with his current run on Thor: God of Thunder.

Lois vs the Omega Men.
This time around, we meet with Jimmy Olsen as he tries to talk Lois into joining the cause of the Omega Men.

description

Lois is searching for Superman, but between the Peacemakers, her father, and this potential terrorist group, it doesn't seem likely.
And once again, the Brainiac AI misinterprets a Peacemaker's report, and instead of getting the mental health support he needs, he's rushed back into the field with disastrous results.

description

I don't really love Superman's new look. Why is that? I don't know.
What I do know is that I'm 100% hanging in there to see if Krypto made it off-planet with him.

Absolute Superman #4 slows things down with an issue that leans heavily on setup over action. The political tension and world-building are intriguing, but the pacing felt a bit off compared to the earlier issues. It’s not without merit—just missing the punch that made the previous chapters hit so hard. Here’s hoping #5 reignites the spark.

Another great issue. Absolute Superman and Wonder Woman have both been really good and continue to be so.

This issue has Lois Lane as more the center of attention this time, trying to work with Supes. But also get a lot more of Lazurus this time. Overall great issue, and a badass superman moment.

Superman appears at the end of the issue and stops the Peacemakers from attacking. He also rejected the Omegas, probably because they tried to kill. The majority of this issue was Lois hunting Superman. It was slow, but built up the world they live in quite nicely. I enjoyed this issue because it wasn’t action packed, but still conveyed the danger Lois is in, the insidious nature of Brainiac and the insanity of Peacemaker.

“We pray for the Superman’s rage.”

I love how this is written. They compare him to a whisper because he cannot be found. They call him a storm because you cannot help but chase after. Superman is a symbol of change, and he is a radicalist at heart.

Absolute Superman ireally like Jason Aaron’s take on it. He still feels very much like the mainstream Superman, but he’s placed in a completely different situation. For example, I appreciate that he actually gets to spend some time on Krypton and that he comes from the lower class of society there. Despite being somewhat different at the start, he still retains the core essence of Superman. He’s a very down-to-earth person, but this version of Superman, while similar in many ways, has a slightly different mood and attitude. However, his goal remains the same helping the downtrodden and standing up for the common man.

I also find the exploration of Lois Lane in this issue fascinating. She’s on the opposing side, working with the Lazarus Corporation an authoritarian entity ruling the world. It’s unclear whether she’s unwilling or simply unable to see the harm they’re causing. I also like how the people view Superman as a messianic figure, someone they pray to for help, appearing just when they need him most. But one line really stood out to me the idea that the people pray for the day Superman gets tired of standing on the sidelines and finally decides to destroy Lazarus once and for all.

It makes me wonder if he’ll ever cross that line. Given this new backstory, I don’t think he would, especially since, like in Absolute Batman, he still follows a strict no-kill rule. However, to be fair, Superman never had a strict 'no-kill' rule he just avoided killing whenever possible. That doesn’t mean it’s completely off the table for him.

an interesting take on Superman in the absolute universe.

While all the other absolute characters tend to vary a bit from their real universe characters.

This guy is not too much different than the normal Superman.

different universe different style different methods but essentially he still the same dude.

We meet Christopher Smith, General Lane, we see more of Lois Lane, and meet Jimmy Olsen - and there's the mysterious Omega prime

This one was a little slow. We see Lois maybe beginning to think that she’s on the wrong side.

I don’t need anymore Lazarus Corp backstory. Just get to Superman now.

I’ve given up on Absolute Batman after issue # 4 as it was just SOOOOOOOO slow and the story still wasn’t going anywhere.

Superman has been a complete reboot with a great concept. I just need him to do more Superman stuff.

Absolutely phenomenal issue, as the hunt for Superman continues we see Lois Lane go to every corner of the world where he so much as stood trying to talk to people who knew him. But everyone she comes across does everything they can to protect him, especially as Lane works for Lazarus and makes it 10x harder for her to gain their trust. But that doesn’t mean she isn’t trying, she once met a woman in Cairo and realized the wound she had was from one of their peacemakers. Lois personally found the peacemaker, beat him down, broke the hand he used to cut her, and then arrested him. But it does seem that there is one sentiment among the people who have met him, they see what she is after…the storm. Superman is a saving fury, that touches everyone he comes across, and is not easy to find as he is also a whisper that walks and sees all. But he is also afraid, he is not afraid of Lois or anyone in particular, but is afraid of the day Lazarus will drive him over the edge that he can’t help but kill to save people. The people most affected by Lazarus pray for the day Superman’s rage comes for them all. But Lois sees things differently, she does not see herself as a storm chaser…but the storm itself!

We get an introduction to General Lane this issue, after he gave her a very angry phone call about continually going out without peacemaker backup. Lois’s father is no longer active duty after an encounter that cost him both his legs, but that doesn’t prevent him from knowing everything is daughter is doing, and to offer her a stern warning about the omega men. We also get an update in this issue on Peacemaker Christopher Smith, last time we saw him he opened fire on a group of civilians. During the debrief with brainiac he tried desperately to explain that he knew what he was doing he was trying to kill those people, to maintain peace at all cost, and that he needs serious help or he doesn’t know what he will do. But the brainiac system remained adamant that his weapon was malfunctioning and they will simply redeploy him and issue him a new service rifle. It’s very clear that actions like this is the brainiac system trying to go to the extremes to push Superman over the edge. As Lois told her father earlier, Superman is different and not something to be nuked out of oblivion, out of the trillions worth of damage to Lazarus no one has ended up dead on his watch.

In the streets of Orangi Town, Lois got her first encounter with the omega men, and if the red hair wasn’t obvious enough the member she came in contact with was none other to an Jimmy Olson! Jimmy came to her willingly to try and recruit her, in a sense, he had hoped that she reached the breaking point with everything she has seen to stop working for Lazarus. But when trying to talk to Lois in a hand to hand fight, even when temporarily blinding her, Jimmy really didn’t stand a chance. He tried to point out the blatant propaganda of the Lazarus corporation but they reached the end of their conversation…and as Jimmy was yet unable to convince her to join them it prompted his partner Omega Prime and her heavy duty sniper rifle to step in.

With shots fired in the town the peacemakers deployed, with Christopher smith right at the front. Omega prime is also majorly decked out with a giant plasma sword, and based on the convo they had while Lois was trying to stay in one price it seems that Primus knows her father. But suddenly in the middle of their fight Alpha (Jimmy) showed himself pointing a gun at Primus, in a way trying to stop the fight so they could genuinely talk. But that method would prove foolhardy as only moments later red dust would fill the streets, knocking them all back, as Superman descended and revealed himself. He didn’t pay a passing glance to Primus as he knocked her away after she asked him to come with the omega men and join their fight. What he ended up doing was marching right up to Lois to tell her to stop looking. But before she can convince him that all she wants to do is talk…the peacemakers arrive. They pull Lois back and point all their guns at Superman. Smith right at the front asks if Superman remembers him…which of course he doesn’t, right as he sends out a specifically controlled frost breath to freeze all the peacemakers and leave Lois free.

But before Lois can run back over to talk, Superman flies up and away, leaving Jimmy in amazement as he was able to snap a photo. Lois storms off pissed, leaving the peacemakers frozen. Primus is pissed that Jimmy didn’t take his shot at Lois, but he knows deep down that they can still convince her that she is on the wrong side. But this issue comes to a horrific end, as the peacemakers start to free themselves Christopher Smith looses it. Once again seeing all the people smiling at their loss, as soon as he is free he find the crowd of people down. Only stopping and coming to his senses when the other peacemakers slap restraints on him. At what point will Superman break?

I found this iteration of superman somehow feels more justified. But i think that speaks more about m internal sense how bad do things have to be before you need someone who says enough and I will force you and others for it to be enough. It feels like that level of power and control are needed for such a desolate and corrosive system that’s in place. Since there’s very little risk. for negotiations with a system like this, and Kals own experiences with systems like this, he has no choice and is very desive in stop the escalating deterioration of his newfound planet.

All the Absolute books are amazing - and it’s going to take something monumental to unseat Abso WW as my favorite of the bunch - but Superman is proving to be such a good slow burn. Aaron is carefully building out this world - and Krypton’s - to make clear the kind of environment that Supes is fighting against. All of these books feel so relevant to the moment as well. I think we live in the Absolute universe…

Finally this series is really kicking up a notch! Not too much presence of Superman, but this is nice as it’s building up pacing and world building around this version of Kael El. Lois Lane running around tryna get her intel on Superman, while slowly getting her mind changed on who the enemy truly is in this.

Very Nice. 4.5/5 stars for sure. Hoping for more of this pacing and action.

The way Jason Aaron has set up Superman's traditional supporting cast is really well done. So many aspects of this run have been incredibly impressive and exciting. Supes gets a badass moment where Sandoval's art truly shines. With its impending narrative, the next issue is titled The Rage Of Superman, rightfully so. I'm extremely hyped for it!

I really like this. I love the dynamics at play with all the various characters and the unfolding story of Kyrpton and Sol along with the reflection of our society and the powerful. So far so good and I’m so glad I get of pick up the next one tomorrow and don’t have to wait a month to read what happens next because it’s really good!

The reworking and new usage of existing Superman characters and DC assets is phenomenal in this series, and it's the highlight of this issue. Really smart and clever writing and plot development. It's easier to feel like the whole world/universe is different here, which puts Absolute Superman on a much grander scale than the others.

The world of Absolute Superman continues to barrel forward as the all-powerful Lazarus Corp. and its enforcers, The Peacemakers, continue to hunt for our hero to take him down and the machinations behind the scenes start to show themselves- including the nature and presence of Braniac.
Superman and Lois continue their journeys and a new/familiar face(s) show up as the Omega Men that have only been whispered about til now are in the game.

self-parody, probably. neither totally recreated from nor in keeping with the myth, so the first obligation is still to the mechanics of the universe, that is the names and conflicts that have no shape outside of those interchangable names. may drop next issue.

This is more of a Lois Lane issue as she scours different countries looking for clues on the whereabouts of Superman. Really like what they’re doing with Lois here, being a badass soldier fits well with her and I hope we get more instances of her exploring her knack for writing.

A haunting glimpse into a hyper-technological society, overrun by AI and technocrats with no morals. This is absolutely amazing but feels too close to reality for comfort.
