This is my first time reading Ninot Aziz's writing. Leyla's Quest is not only a story about Leyla's - a passionate, skillful, and smart girl, but it's about Islam.

How Malacca, Turkey Uthmaniyah engaged and support each other to ensure Islam and others, Islamic rulers, taking care of Islam and the treasure belongs to ummah.

The 'pantun' was well written.
The plot, towards ending, was written in thriller mode, which is, I like.

The build up character of Malacca's Sultan, Bendahara, Laksamana and Tun Fatimah, remind us the history and the legendary of Kesultanan Melayu Melaka.

It is also remind us, we have a great 'Hukum Kanun Melaka' and 'Undang-undang Laut Melaka'.

Leyla's Quest, Echoes of Uthmaniyah, bring us to enter a game world, named EMPIRE. Leyla as a gamers found out that EMPIRE was not only a game, but a world to be explore to find a truth.

In EMPIRE, Leylas performed as Srikandi. Entering world of Kesultanan Melayu Melaka, and complete the mission given - safe the Queen (Tun Fatimah) and the royal family's. Ensure the treasure is safe as well.

In other mission's, Leyla perform as Selena Bowden, a young architect, to bring out Keris Lok Sembilan from the vault of the Bank. The vault is under the three stories built underground.

There is also touching scene. I can feel the burden of Lysa when the caretaker comes. They already know what happen to Lysa's father, Prof. Palik.

Recommended book, for those who love to read historical book, crime thriller and those who love games.

This novel gives me Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code déjà vu. It's a very intriguing read. Every chapter ends with 'What's next?' This novel is a page-turner indeed. Leyla's Quest is also an eye-opener read for me. Reading this book gives me new knowledge of world history. It also challenged me in everything I thought I knew about world history. This novel is mind-blowing indeed. It makes me interested to learn about Turkish history. And it makes me want to travel to Turkey pronto. Hehehe ^_^

I like Puan Ninot's writing style for Leyla's Quest. It's very sophisticated and artsy. It shows that Puan Ninot is very passionate and knowledgeable in world history. Leyla's Quest has a cliffhanger ending. I hope this novel will have its sequel soon.

Overall, I rate this novel 10/10. It's a brilliant read. I highly recommend it to all bookworms in the universe. This novel is really a must-not-miss. Plus, it won't disappoint you at all.

Leyla's Quest: Echoes of Uthmaniyah
By Ninot Aziz
Published by Hikayat Fandom
Goodread's Rating: 4.5/5
My Rating: 4/5

"The air is freezing, and Leyla shivers uncontrollably. She did not like the winter and looked forward to return to more tropical weather. Face to face with the awaiting pilot, Leyla made a split-second decision, uttering the destination that would set a course for an uncertain future..."

Leyla's Quest: Echoes of Uthmaniyah is an ambitious exploration of empire, lineage, and the reverberations of history across time and space. The narrative unfolds from the courtly intrigues of Melaka to the grandeur of Istanbul, before arriving in the present day. Historical figures such as Sultan al-Fatih and Tun Fatimah coexist with the intimate legacy of Aysë, forming a layered world in which personal and imperial histories are inextricably entwined. Each character and setting appears deliberately chosen, composing a rich tapestry that spans centuries while remaining anchored to the human pulse of the story.

The novel’s pace is vivid, moving swiftly between eras and continents. For readers accustomed to reflective, contemplative narratives, these rapid shifts can feel brisk, demanding careful attention to maintain continuity. Following the threads from one place or period to another is akin to piecing together a complex historical mosaic. Yet this structure mirrors the novel’s central ambition, which is to render history alive, demonstrating how the past continues to shape and haunt the present. Were history books written with the narrative richness of historical fiction, the masses might approach history with far less ignorance and far more curiosity.

Characters function as vital anchors within this expansive canvas. Aysë embodies continuity and ancestral memory, a living conduit to the Ottoman past. Leyla carries the dual inheritance of empire and absence, navigating a world shaped by forces and figures that extend beyond her immediate perception. Secondary characters, from Pashas to Professor, imbue the historical backdrop with depth, making epochs tangible and resonant.

Ultimately, it is a meticulously crafted and intellectually engaging work. It is reminiscent of a robust, finely steeped black tea, layered with flavour, occasionally brisk, yet consistently thought-provoking and stimulating.

P.S. Some bookish friends mentioned that the illustrations of Aysë kind of look like me, and those of Sultan Mehmet and Sultan Murat II resemble my husband, but please note that all depictions are entirely fictitious.

3.5 ⭐️. Recommended read. Not too bad honestly but I was a bit put-off with the bad editing. Will write a review later on.
