Great story !!! I've read it three times already !!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I always really , Really enjoy the stories from this Author !!! So much so , that I completely devour whatever her newest book is. I have to reign myself in, because then I finish too fast !! What I usually do is get to about half way, then start over. Just to draw it out as long as possible. And this story was no different !! In this story Kali is a moderately powerful and successful necromancer, with blood and bone mage being her favorites. She has come to the attention of Cornelius , an even more powerful necromancer, who has a very mean streak along with a superiority complex. He believes that Kali should become his assistant , whether she wants to or not . Instead , he has taken her brother as assistant and made him practically a zombie , as retaliation. Poor Jasper . Desperate, Kali pays a visit to the Weaver.
Pharos has been living in his own personal hell, as a sort of slave to Cornelius. Cornelius is able to use Pharos' considerable powers in order to make himself more powerful. Much more powerful then he would ever be on his own. But Pharos can not separate himself from Cornelius 's grip without help. As Kali and Pharos scheme and plan and plot, will their combined knowledge be enough ?? Or will the necromancer find a workaround ??? This book was all kinds of wonderful !!! Not only do we find out more about the very mysterious Weaver, but even more about the shadow world and how it all works. Most Definitely different then the matchmaker Kayog, that's for sure !!! I must admit that I have hardly ever thought about Wraith's and necromancer's and the like. But now I have a working knowledge 😀 Wonderful book. Very insightful, very edgy and even romantic !! Lots of action and a very great reading experience !!! Loved it !!!
Kali was meh. I don’t understand why she got like mega buffed at the end and then did nothing with it, unless it’s gonna like come in handy further along in the series, but for some reason, I just don’t see that happening and I just felt like it was kind of pointless. I also kinda got detached from the characters cause I took like a month break while reading this so that’s probably not helping either. But of course I do love this author and her writing style and I will definitely be reading the next one if there is a next one.
The story and couple were very boring to me in this one. While the MMC was a sweetie pie and their connection was loving and warm, I just couldn't get interested in it.
For 500 years, Pharos was imprisoned and used. Through it all, he maintained his true self, never allowing the evil of his jailer to imprint upon him. Kali is a woman determined to free her brother from the evil Cornelius. This leads to an alliance with Pharos that becomes so much more. Once again, Ms. Abel does an excellent job drawing the reader into this dark world of magic, greed, alliances and Justice. As always, I love the drawings of the characters and creatures of the story. This book links the Mmc from the previous book, but can be read as a standalone. I am.hoping for Haroth story.
It was an okay read. Unfortunately I didn’t find the main characters to be particularly endearing. The storyline was okay, but I didn’t feel invested. This author has written some awesome books, but this one was not it for me.
The story was a great read. Loves the MMC but the FMC started getting on my nerves as soon as she drew the first circle. I skipped over her speaking a lot so I wouldn’t have to read her continuing to whine about something.
~~~ 💕Things I’m excited about💕 The story was fun! Felt very Buffy-Charmed-cozy monster of the millennia kinda plot line. I want a better look at the magic system and how that builds on the paranormal / supernatural elements in this universe. And the fact that there are literal demigods and gods, dukes of hell and archangels, just wandering around this world gives me SO many more questions. 😂 I also want to know more about the culture and society of their world. It felt like being teased with details lol, I want to know more! ~~~ 🤍Things I feel need some work🤍 But the relationships between characters felt a little shallow, by which I mean that the relationships developed without appropriate stimulus so the dev that did happen didn’t feel genuine. There were also several details that were mismatched throughout the story (like literally gave the wrong last name for the FMC at the end of the book😬). Some turns of phrase were kinda cringe too— like too modern or just something a teenager would say (which… ick if it’s coming from a 20-something yk?). And I didn’t really understand the time period this was set in? Like it felt pre-industrial but also modern day? There was one mention of electricity being harnessed as lightbulbs recently(ish?), but the rest of the book wasn’t really helpful in building the setting. ~~~ 💕👏🏼💕Overall, there were a lot of fun things about the book, and I’m genuinely interested in this universe that Abel created! But this was a bit of a rough read. However, I see a lot of promise in Abel’s writing, and I look forward to reading more from them in the future! 😍 ~~~ Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️/5 - it was there, but the writing (esp male pov) needs to feel more natural Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 - could be better, but it’s obvious that a lot of thought and love and work went into this book! Thank you for writing it! 🫶🏼
Me llamó la atención el nombre de la protagonista, que obviamente, relacioné con la diosa de la India. En este libro puede volver a apreciarse la portentosa imaginación de la autora, que creó este mundo con ese nivel de detalle y complejidad. Esa parte fue la que disfruté del libro. Por lo demás... Kali es una PROTAGONISTA: así, con mayúsculas. Cuando Pharos se pone pesado con la cantinela "dame tu alma, dame tu alma, dame tu alma" como una criatura haciendo un berrinche, ella se la aguanta y se pone firme, y con mucha claridad se impone. Imposible no respetarla. Claro, al final para mi decepción termina cediendo, pero bué... supongo que necesidades del guión 🙄🙄 hubiera estado BRUTAL que logre resolverlo sin entregar su alma, jeje. Pharos... ajá... muy bonito y todo, pero no me atrapó como Asheron. No tiene su encanto. Y la relación de pareja... tampoco. Pero bueno, es cuestión de gustos, no quiere decir que esté mal descrita o mal llevada. No me interesó, y listo. Para mi, el punto fuerte de este libro es el mundo que describe, los personajes secundarios (la Tejedora, Azrael, Alderan...) y todo el asunto de la magia. Y en serio, ¿era necesario el cliché de que te gustan los dos, pero te quedás con el malvado? ¿EN SERIO ERA NECESARIO? ¿No lo habíamos superado ya? 🙄🙄🙄 Digo... tan predecible... pero además, en este caso, me pareció totalmente innecesario. Pensándolo bien, le voy a bajar una estrella por recurrir a un recurso tan trillado SIN NINGUNA NECESIDAD, porque imaginación a esta mujer le sobra. #listolodije No sé si habrá más de esa saga, se sintió como una despedida. Pero bué, si aparecen, los leeré ☺
Cornelius, the morally deficient necromancer who tried to strong-arm Ronika's property from her in book 1, has bound an Angel of Death and is using his powers to do terrible things. Which, for the record, Pharos VERY MUCH doesn't like. But Pharos is bound and doesn't see a way out of his predicament, so he has no choice but to endure it. Until, you know, a beautiful Blood Mage crosses his path.
Kali is motivated to stop Cornelius since he's enslaved her brother. Freeing Pharos and stripping the necromancer of a whole bunch of his power helps both her and Pharos and Kali is willing to do anything toward that end. Except give her soul. Fortunately, there's a workaround of sorts that isn't quite as foolproof as the soul-giving but will get the job done. Probably.
For the record, I don't think crossing the Weaver in any way, shape, or form is advisable. She has a long reach and powerful allies and she doesn't hold her allies back when they come to extract some vengeance.
Anywho. Kali and Pharos have to work together, they get close, Kali has to make a choice that hinges on trust. We get to meet one of Pharos's brothers (who is pretty darn good at speeches that make a girl think) and the necromancer and his flunkies get what's coming to them. I mean, they REALLY get what's coming to them.
I'm digging this world and the Weaver and all the threads she can pull to put things in motion. *thumbs up*
I am really enjoying the Shadow Realm stories and the truly interesting characters who live here. The world building is fantastic, the chemistry between the characters is tangible and the storyline is compelling. Kali and her twin brother are necromancers . Her brother unfortunately sold his soul for power and she has tried everything in her power to get him released. She knows he did some questionable thing but he's still her brother and she just wants to lay him too rest. Pharos an angel of Death tricked and trapped by a bike evil necromancer, Cornelius. For almost 500 years he has abused Pharos' power and he wants to see justice served. When he sees Kali through the eyes of Cornelius he knows instinctively that she is his would mate. If anyone can help him break his curse Nd be rid of the evil in his life its her.how can he convince me her that she's the other half of his soul? How does he convince her that giving up her soul is the only way to defeat their common foe? And that love true love is what will set them both free and see those that have hurt and abused them punished! You have to give this a read its a fabulous story! Highly recommend💖🌟🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥💖🌟🔥💖
Dang Regine has an amazing imagination!!! This book & the first one Destined to a Wraith are the two best books I’ve read in years! I’ve read her alien series and it was really good, but these are excellent!!! 100% worth your time and money! I really hope she does some more of these! At the end of the story, the angel of death says that the Weaver has more children that need her help so I’m really hoping she write some more! I love the artwork at the end! I wish every author did this, it makes the story come alive, especially when you’re describing creatures that are made from the imagination being able to see what they actually look like really helps. Regina is an author that I will Always follow and check into. She is so good and I truly believe you will love her too!
I was lucky enough to get this book on Kindle unlimited! Kindle unlimited, has enabled me to read hundreds of books on a disability! I’m truly grateful and if you read as much as I do, it’s a wonderful way to get as many books in as possible. You can rent them again and again so it’s like permanently having the book & hundreds more for $10 a month.
OK, so my thoughts on this book: This has to be one of the fewer books that the plot is what kept me going rather than the romance between the main characters. I love how the plot was very intricate into how they needed to get Pharos separated from Cornelius and all these steps that they had to go through in order to free him. I also like that in this world, the Ancients and gods and demigods have constrictions on them. And because of that, they couldn't move however they want in order to keep the balance, which made the reasonings to why everything happened understandable. Everything that happened in this book was logical and made sense according to the character. And I absolutely loved it. However, the romance part of it was just OK. I wished we got more bonding scenes with Pharos and Kali showing how they would connected a bit more and a bit more insight on Kali's thought process about the soul bonding and her finally deciding to bond with Pharos. Because, while I understand why she wouldn't want to give her soul to Pharos, due to what happened to her brother, is the fact that she still did not want to even when she was threatened with death and then she wanted to help Pharos, but when she found out that they have to bond, she's like Nah. I mean, I understand her, but at the same time, she was getting me so frustrated. Because this was such an integral part of the story I wish it was a bit more expounded on so when she finally says yes, it makes sense, instead of feeling rushed.
"Non volevo rinunciare a lui. Ogni cellula del mio essere gridava che doveva essere mio. Per la prima volta in vita mia, mi sentivo completa. La luce divina degli stessi dèi riempiva ogni fibra del mio essere. Certo, il folle potere dato dalla sua presenza in me avrebbe creato dipendenza a qualsiasi stregone sano di mente. Ma erano la bellezza e la purezza della sua anima ad affascinarmi. Eravamo una cosa sola, vibravamo in perfetta armonia. Eravamo destinati a stare insieme."
Secondo volume strettamente correlato al primo (che per fortuna ricordavo abbastanza bene), e devo dire con alcuni elementi un poco ripetitivi, ma che non tolgono nulla della magia che solo la Abel sa creare! Anche qui abbiamo una protagonista in cerca di aiuto, un burattinaio dietro le file, una dose di sesso quasi imbarazzante (pare la magia funzioni così oggigiorno XD), un CATTIVO veramente cattivo (che avrà TUTTO quel che si merita con mia immensa soddisfazione). Pharos e Kali sono una coppia esplosiva, vere anime gemelle, e affrontano tutto fianco a fianco con molto coraggio. Bello il team genitori sul finale che si unisce per massacrare il cattivo di turno e aiutare i figlioli (che avrei voluto si conoscessero ahahah). Ho trovato veramente intrigante il fratello mietitore di Pharos, spero avrà una sua storia!
I really liked this book it is a quick read but the story line was solid. I really liked the male lead and I can't help but wonder if I'm the only one who finds the reaper on the book cover handsome 🤩 🤩. I also liked the subtle way the author incorporates GOD and mystical deities in the storyline. The only downside was the female lead who to me was like screeching chalk on a blackboard, who didn't seem to know how to get out of her own way. I do like strong, courageous females but not stubborn, stupid ones had she been the former instead of the latter I would have liked her. Like the first book there were fillings that didn't really add to the story other than to make it a bit longer. I was glad toward the end that things were explained because in the beginning the reader is just left wondering how the hell did that happen??? A good quick read
I like this series a lot. Abel has a way of weaving some pretty solid intricacies and details into her fantasy and then topping it off with decent erotica which is my favorite. This one lost a star or so just because I wasn’t fully buying the romance between Pharos and Kali. I wish there were more scenes of them bonding….it seemed that she just fell in love with him sexually I guess and I wasn’t buying that so much. Pharos and the whole mate thing insta love was plausible but for someone who was so stubborn I expected Kali to be a bit more…difficult let’s say. Also the end where she was gifted all these things was kinda…interesting. But we’ll see where that leads. All in all a fun, sexy decent read though.
The first book was so good. I was so excited to read the second book because I thought it was gonna be just as good but what a disappointment. It was first off. The main female character was very annoying. You want to do anything to save your brother, but you wouldn't sacrifice something of yourself to save him. I hated that the author, added phrases like bounce and thoughts and prayers. It kind of threw me off. Anyway, if you wanna read it, I guess you can, but I skipped through and rushed through a lot of it because it was just boring, and I hated the female main character
I found myself caught in the story right away. I wanted to understand the world right away the author kept me at arms length until I was vested in the story. By then, I couldn’t put the book down! Please give this series a chance. If you are going to begin reading, please read this series in order. Destined for the Wraith is first, but not absolutely necessary to understand the story. It’s nice to get the comments mentioned here and there. This is a great read. Good job!
Kali is like a minor witch person in a freaky Victorian-esque society where people can enslave each other and use their reanimated corpses to drive their carriages. As one does. So her brother is one such slave to like the worst most sexually depraved person whose name is Cornelius. Just not a very villian-y name. Anyway, Cornelius is only powerful cos he captured the angel of death by baiting him 500 years ago. Kali summons him and frees him with the help of his mother who is an ageless ancient being. But his brother is also a reaper, which is different from an angel of death cos they have different fathers. Of course, of course. So they have mad weird ritualistic binding sex and exchange soul fragments in order to defeat him and lock him up to be tortured for 850 years.
If you ever wondered if an Angel of Death could be a sweetheart, this book is for you!
The second book in The Shadow Realms series did not disappoint. You could probably start with this book, as everything from the previous was contextually explained, but you would be missing out and some plot elements would be spoiled.
I loved this book! I found that it had everything I was looking for and more, including action, magic, world building, plot, romance and spice.
Spice 5/5 Plot 4.5/5 Writing 4.5/5 My enjoyment 5/5
Just when you think a character in Regine Abel’s books can’t do any more harm, the plot thickens and Cornelius who harassed a former MFC for her house in the first of the series, he now is doing terrible things to supernaturals. The Reaper, enslaved for 500 years falls for Kali who wants to rescue her twin brother. The necromancer wanted her too and this begins the quest, to free both of them. Blood and bone magic is her thing and being tasked with the rescue may be the hardest and the best mission of her life!
I love this story for many reasons in that Regine makes the reaper seem just as bad as the bad guy, but under layers shows a deeply compassionate being caught in a trap not of his making. Even the gods are prone to mistakes but will do what they can to correct them. And the love between the reaper and his bride is icing on the cake. Well done Regine Abel. Well done!
Wow un 2e tôme un peu plus sombre mais au combien captivant ! Il peut être lu seul, mais je vous conseille de lire le tôme 1 avant. Oui le couple principal est différent avec sa propre fin, mais l'intrigue elle est une suite. De plus plusieurs personnes secondaires proviennent du tôme 1 et facilitera la compréhension et l'immersion. Bref cette série est génial et j'adore ce nouveau monde créé par Regine. J'attends le tôme 3 avec impatience !
This book was just okay. Kali really annoyed me. The repetition was a bit over the top. I also didn’t care for the conversations that were too detailed and long and felt like they were having a conversation with a child when talking to Kali explaining things. Like, conversation is key and understanding one another is important but this felt next level, eye rolling, shake a dumb bia type of thing.
I really liked our hero in this story. One persons greed because their downfall (and it was a most deserved downfall). As much as I wanted to like our female lead she was super annoying. Ended up skimming over every time she talked. That was the only reason for the 4 stars. Everything else was great !
