A great local book for where to go to follow the natural cycle throughout the year. It's dated now, but it's still useful (pre-websites addresses). I've used the directions to find some of these locations. Plus, I learned things about various animals and plants! Very useful for any budding naturalist in the NW.
I loved this book for the most part. I love the concept, and I learned so much. I wish there were an updated version (kind of looks like his only other book is an updated version of this one; wish I'd read that one!), and I wish it had been laid out a little differently. I also noticed that more than once, an event would include information that suggested the listed month was not actually the best time to do this thing, only there may be less people, or whatever, which felt like a cop-out.
Anyway, I know a lot more about my home region. I learned so much, especially from the "closer look" sections, and I'm so glad I read this book. Definitely a great read for people getting to know the world around them, as I apparently never did as a child, or I've forgotten it all. I love having this knowledge to share with my kiddos.
from spiders and banana slugs to salmon and bald eagles to wintering elk and orcas to wildflowers and ancient forests and so much more--- this book lets us know where to go and when to go---get this book and go.
Should be on the shelf of every nature lover in the northwest. Places to go, things to see and you might learn something just holed up inside reading the various sections.
This is an awesome book! It tells you where to find Planet Earth-worthy migrations, amazing wildflowers, the best frozen waterfalls, and all of nature's seasonal wonders in the Pacific Northwest.
