"There is a spirit that moves amongst us. They call him the Messenger of Death. And tonight...tonight...he called my name." The Loxworths are a family of clairvoyant mediums. Sitters at their seances are dying. Their deaths predicted by a mysterious entity known as The Messenger of Death. Holmes, Watson, and Lestrade must stop the deaths, before someone close to them becomes the next victim.

This book was a delight from start to finish! I’m always in the market for a new adventure of Holmes and Watson, and this one did not disappoint. The narrative style, the dialogue, the characters interactions, the pursuit of a mystery—this book scratched that Holmsian itch perfectly. And with a vital role for Mrs Hudson to boot! While this tale quickly becomes less of a whodunnit more of a howdonnit, that did nothing to slow my pursuit of “what happens next?” Lastly, I appreciate all the research on spiritualism and plants that went into the creation of this story. It’s clear that lots of time and care went into it.
A truly enjoyable and well-researched pastiche where Holmes, Watson, Lestrade, Mycroft, Wiggins and even Mrs Hudson along with others collaborate to trap a serial killer! Since they are often with others, the Holmes-Watson friendship is not strongly featured though Holmes includes Watson’s in nearly all his forays to gather information.
This Holmes is slightly more kind and less arrogant than the original, but still tried to form. I will look for more novels by this author.
Thanks to MX Publishing for this excellently narrated audio version.
Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson , find too many coincidences: seance with questionable mediums, death of select guests of seance and missing jewelry of murder victim and a bad police detective.Holmes, Watson, Inspector Lestrade , Wiggins, and Mrs. Hudson join forces against those who have misused the seance! Loved It!!!
I liked it overall, the story made sense and tied up by the end, so I could not complain- if you like mysteries/ detective/ Sherlock Holmes stories, this is one for you! Not too long and was a pretty quick read!
