Provided by Time-Life in a boxed set with the recipes in a spiral-bound booklet, this look into the cuisine of Germany will delight with time-honored classics like Hasenpfeffer and Spӓtzle. The history of both cuisine and culture is explored in the hardcover book.
This did not disappoint. Like all the Time Life The Cooking of ... series, it looks at the region, history, and the food. The recipes are authentic and if the companion small spiral bound recipe book accompanies the larger hardback then happy cooking is ahead!
This was a Christmas gift from my son years ago when I was studying German in college. It's a lovely edition--comes in an illustrated box with an extra spiral-bound booklet and the photos are great. Most of the recipes are pretty complicated and though I did try a few years ago, I'm hanging onto this cookbook mainly for sentimental reasons.
This book is old, well, 1969, so of course the current information (and a lot of the photographs) are dated. It's more a history of German cooking than a cookbook, although there are a lot of recipes.
