Prostě já

Rate this book

‚Zoe‘ začíná s čistým štítem a s Noahovou pomocí nadšeně zaplňuje svůj svět barvami, kreativitou a sladkým i kořeněným jídlem.

I love memory loss trope but this book was so boring that at 40%, I decided that I'd rather watch paint dry than torture myself further trying to finish this book.

* I dropped the book on page 156, where there was yet no romance, no chemistry or no feelings at all. (The book is 355 pages long).

*********************************************

* Here's what it says at the beginning of this book:

"Hilarious and heartfelt, nothing makes you laugh like a Jo Watson rom-com!"

And here's what I think:

"Are you f*cking kidding me? It couldn't have been less boring and dull. And my heart felt nothing, sorry!"

I've known for some time that Jo Watson is a fabulous author, but I have a feeling her writing has gone up another level with this book.

I am sitting here open mouthed at how it turned out, but that is all I'm going to say about the ending other than it's amazing how often you can be surprised during one book.

It is not often I start a book with a character that has been in an elevator accident, and has in fact lost her memory completely. She can't remember her name but seems to know loads of random facts, can understand a language she wasn't even aware of, and basically needs to learn about her self all over again.

Well while hoping her memory comes back. There are all manner of feelings she has towards certain situations that she can't initially explain but she is drawn, perhaps as he was the paramedic on duty, to Noah and feels safe around him.

What I can't imagine anyone would guess, is when we discover he true identity, just how different the reality is to what she believes she might be like. And when you eventually discover the reasoning for it, my heart tore in two.

Noah is absolutely fabulous throughout this book, and if I ever found myself in a similar situation it is him I would want! There is so much I want to say about Noah but I don't really want to spoil the book either, suffice to say he is a rare breed of man, caring, considerate, sexy and copes admirably when a woman he has only met once turns up on his doorstep, as she literally has no idea of anyone else in her life.

One of the messages from this book is sometimes things are just meant to be, fated for reason, even if you aren't aware of it at the time. And it feels so true, as at the point I learnt I had been approved for this book on Netgalley, I was slightly despairing, hadn't been keen on the previous book I'd finished, and then gave up on another, and just couldn't work out what on earth to read next. But the second I saw the email with this book I just knew it had to be my next read, and that there was no way Jo Watson would let me down. It just felt right to read it instantly and I'm so glad I listened to my intuition as it has reinvigorated me.

Without a doubt Jo Watson's best book so far, and I've almost read all of them. There is far more to this story than may first meet the eye and I was impressed with just how much was fitted in, and how the pacing seemed spot on and so perfect.

Just a wonderful book from a talented author.

Thank you to Headline Eternal and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Rounded up to 3 stars

I'm just not sure about this one, it had phases. It started off really strange when I was expecting a rom-com. It definitely became rom-com but then it had phases of being bizarre. I'd have to say I liked some parts and not others. The South African setting was interesting and some of the characters were too. I liked Noah but Zoe was odd, not surprising under the circumstances.

This didn't really hit the spot for me, but I can see lots have enjoyed it.

Just The Way I Am - Jo Watson

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review thanks to Headline Eternal and Netgalley.

'Zoe' is having a very bad day. As if getting trapped in a faulty elevator wasn't bad enough, losing her memory has made it much worse. If there's one piece of luck, it's that the paramedic on the scene, Noah, is both kind and a handsome distraction...

Now a completely blank canvas, with the help of Noah, 'Zoe' is excited to fill her world with colour, creativity and sweet and spicy food. She just knows from the tips of her toes, right to her fleek brows, that these things were all part of her make-up.

*I read this book as a standalone*

I don’t think I have ever read a book, where after a few chapters the reader is completely in the dark about the main character. In a unique twist, the reader learns about ‘Zoe’ as she learns about herself.

‘Zoe’ works with Noah to try and create her new life, but when her memories begin to return which life will she choose? This is a beautifully written story about self-discovery, second chances and love.

I have never read a book by Jo Watson, but after reading this one I will be adding more books to my never ending TBR pile.

I enjoyed this book. It's a heartwarming and laugh out loud read.

This was one of those stories that made you think about how you would feel if you were in the same situation as Zoe. How would you feel if you lost your memory and the person who you feel and thought you were was different to the person you discover you actually are.

I enjoy being on Zoe’s journey as she started to embrace her new feelings, new emotions, take more risks and most of all, start live and have fun again, but also realising that some of her old traits would never entirely disappear and that's okay.

I loved the chemistry and connection between Zoe and Noah and watching their new friendship slowly turned into something more. Oh boy, I adore the little plot twist at the end, so bloody sweet! 🥰

One thing I discovered towards the end of the book was that the two strangers who were in the lift with Zoe also have a book each, and so I’m going to go and read their stories, that's for sure!

If you love romantic comedies, then I would give this one a read. This is only my second Jo Watson’s book, and I'm going to be reading more!

As usual, it was a very entertaining read. This book started off with a big bang. I’d say Zoe was a very lovable heroine. She struggled with her amnesia but becomes a whole new person in the process and living the life she never got to live.

With Noah’s help, it was heartwarming to see her turn into a totally different person from who she was before her accident.

I was easily pulled into the story with Zoe’s cuteness.

However, I did think the romance was lacking. The first 3/4 of the book was focused on Zoe living her life and regaining her memories, only the last 1/4 of the book was where they realized they were in love with one another.

It felt a bit odd to me, as the romance didn’t feel developed fully for me to truly believe they were in love. For the 3/4 of the book, all I saw was two good friends having fun.

Also, am not sure if it was just me, but we weren’t really told what caused zoe’s accident, what happened and all. Maybe I missed it, or author forgot to mention it.

‘Zoe’ wakes up to absolutely no memory of who she is, how old she is or even what her name is! The only thing she can cling to is Noah the paramedic - the one who squeezed her hand when she was slipping in and out of consciousness after the accident. The story takes us on the journey of ‘Zoe’ finding herself, not necessarily who she was but who she should be.

I’ve read a Jo Watson before, the Great Ex-scape and I loved it! This one did not disappoint - I loved the characters - Noah & ‘Zoe’ I don’t think anyone could read this and not fall in love with either of them. I couldn’t wait to find out what ‘Zoe’s’ brain was protecting her from, so many possibilities went through my mind. Honestly the unexpected full circle moment at the end did make me shed a tear. I loved it - and will definitely be added Becca’s & Frankie’s stories to my never ending TBR!

This cemented it for me - Jo Watson is an automatic purchase no questions asked!

Book 3 of the trilogy. Throughly enjoyed and was continually kept on the edge wanting to know what happened next. Although sad at moments (trigger moments of hospitals, cancer and death) the overall story line was great and fun while following “Zoe” to find herself. Best part was how the story came full circle and you discover that Fate had been a big part of Zoe’s journey from the very beginning. Highly recommend this book as a stand alone or as the final chapter in the Trilogy about 3 girls who had their lives changed forever after their moment together in the elevator.

Just the way I am by Jo Watson a special five-star read. This one just had that extra something special, not just Noah and his empathy or Zoe and her random facts that popped up and just made me smile. Zoe’s brain was protecting her, and you can’t help but wonder what it was and the way the story reveals details like flowers unfurling and revealing the truth behind who Zoe was before the accident that meant she forgot. The problem is flowers unfurling isn’t always pretty like we imagine, there is a flower that I believe blooms once a year and smells truly awful, in some ways the memory is like that. It may be beautiful in some ways but terrible in others. This was such a great story and showed us the great difference between empathy and sympathy as Noah shows so much empathy he really does show a great manner about how people should behave.

Where to begin, I will say that I am not a fan of this book the conversations and acts seemed to be childish, odd, and unrealistic.
The idea of the book wasn't poor but the execution was horrible.
There was only one part that I enjoyed (five pages). It seemed to introduce a philosophical monologue, between the person she thought she was and the person that she truly was, and how fear plays around with our feelings as well as desires. I would have liked it more if this idea would have been developed.

This book hit me right in the feels. One of my favourite fiction romance books ‘Love To Hate You’ was written by Jo Watson so I was already expecting it to hit the right spot for me. I’m happy to say I wasn’t disappointed. It made me laugh, it made me cry and I craved more of the witty romance that came to life in this story. It took a while for the story to really build up and felt a bit slow to start with but it created a great purpose for character development.

‘Zoe’ was a great protagonist. After waking up in the hospital after the accident, she didn’t know who she was, where she lived, whether she had any family or even what her favourite colour was. She only knew two things – she hates hospitals and Noah; the paramedic who held her hand and made her feel safe. I loved her character build up, a scared 29 year old living life for the first time all over again to rediscover herself. She opened herself up to every opportunity in front of her and created a new life for herself as a creative, colourful, friendly person. After discovering her life is actually a lonely, scared, colourless woman with a desk job in the basement across the street with no friends, her more recent memories start to come back to her and it isn’t a life she expected to find or wants to continue as she tries to get back into a rhythm of her past self. Zoe goes through so many changes over the course of the book that you’ll come to love and understand her all the more as she begins to see life as a second chance.

Noah was the type of love interest we all want in our romance novels. He’s kind, thoughtful, chivalrous and utterly romantic when he finally allows himself the chance to give in to his feelings. He’s there for Zoe every step of the way as her guardian and friend as she goes through her rediscovery and connects to her on a level that you’ll come to understand more at the end – be prepared for some tears cus mine were real when the story came full circle. You’ll come to love him all the more as the story continues, his character doesn’t change and doesn’t have too, he will still melt your heart every step of the way.

I adored the additional characters in the story, it didn’t matter that you only had a few pages with each before moving on – some didn’t even have names, it was the impression they left behind with Zoe that was important. As Zoe goes through her transition to finding who she really is, the friendships she makes along the way give her a new perspective on life that she really needed, and that was knowing she wasn’t alone, with or without her memories. There is a reason she has no friends around her, another one of her fears she’s had since she was a child, so the impact the additional characters make along the way are sweet and heartwarming.

This book was just what I needed to break apart from the fantasy and reading challenge I’ve set for myself. It had all the right pieces that fit perfectly well together and only got better along the way. As a romance that focused on Zoe and Noah’s characters, we all knew how it was going to end, but I did not expect the additional circle level of fate that came their way that made me emotional. It was perfect and gave the book the push I wanted to be 5 star.

Genre: Fiction / Romance

Release Date: Expected March 16th 2021

Trigger Warnings: Hospitals, Death, Illness, Sexual Imagery, Drugs, Alchohol, Injury.

"Zoe" isn't really having the best day. As if waking up in a frighteningly broken elevator isn't bad enough, she's waking up with her mind empty. Her memories are gone; all the important ones anyone. Her name, her job, her family, her hopes and dreams have vanished and left a blank slate behind. But somehow, she can still remember the most random facts about obscure foliage, not as though that helps.

By a strange twist of fate, she reconnects with Noah, the empathetic and very handsome paramedic that found her on her worst day and he offers to care for her - she can't even remember where she lives, after all. Together, they try and peice together "Zoes" new life and fill in with colour, with new hobbies and excitement. But as the final peices fall into place she finds the life she left behind wasn't colourful at all - fate has offered her a second chance but does she know how to take it?

Jo Watson is royalty when it comes to feel-good fiction that breaks and mends your heart in the best of ways - and this is no exception. A beautiful story about fate, about second and third chances and about love in it's many forms.

This was a laugh-a-minute journey of self-discovery that was far too easy to read in one sitting. Sometimes bordering on the absurd, I absolutely loved watching Zoe and Noah get into escalating antics trying to find new things to fall in love with.

Of course, it wouldn't be the same without some exceptionally steamy and sickeningly sweet romance but the part that lingers after you've turned the last page is the beauty of someone learning over again how to love themselves and what that really means.

And my favourite part? The brilliant cameos from some beloved and not-so-loved characters from the Watson universe - tying everything together with a perfect finish.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to NetGalley and Jo Watson for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I picked up Just the Way I Am on a whim as I was looking for a light-hearted story. While it did deliver on many of these moments, it was also filled with more heavier ones than expected. ‘Zoe’ wakes up after an elevator accident with no memory of who she is and first finds herself in the ambulance on the way to the hospital with her EMT, Noah. From the moment he was introduced, it was obvious where the author was going for his involvement, but I still enjoyed reading the journey.

As ‘Zoe’ begins to medically recover, she then goes on to try and rediscover who she is with the help of Noah, who ends up as her accomplice. The reader is left in the dark about the true version of ‘Zoe’ and instead discovers everything with her. Through experiences, foods, etc. she discovers what she likes and does not like and believes she is getting on track with finding out who she is; however, soon she finds out that the person she is discovering may not be the same person she was before the accident. The author nicely captures ‘Zoe’s’ emotions as she goes through many states of confusion during her recovering.

As she feels a sense of comfort with Noah and he feels connected to her and wants to help, the two were cute together. He is compassionate and although he is romantically drawn to her, he keeps nice boundaries due to her condition. Due to the story mainly following her journey, the romance is a slow burn that takes place in the background. Noah was a well-written guardian for ‘Zoe’ and I loved how invested he was in her. Their bond was sweet, and I love how they connected. There were a lot of secrets revealed throughout the story and I love how everything came together at the end. There are still some lingering questions about her friends and the accident in general, but I still enjoyed the overall message of the story.

I got this from Netgalley and Headline Eternal books in exchange for an honest review.

This starts with a woman in a lift accident being rescued by the emergency services, only the woman has no recollection of her name or a lot of things about herself due to a bump on the head. She's diagnosed with amnesia and the police take her fingerprints and photo in the hopes it will match a missing persons report or come up on the South African drivers database. The woman decides her name is "Zoe" until her memories come back and decided to try and find things out about herself with the help of Noah, the paramedic who kept her calm and safe as she was rescued.

I don't know about this one.

I struggled a little to get through the first 60% or so with Zoe trying to relearn things about herself and then finding out who she really was before the accident. I did feel rather bad for Zoe for a while as she rediscovered what her life had been like for the past seven years at her job and just her life in general.

I'm a romance reader and that bit of this story was slowly being nurtured in the background but it only really started to kick in around the half way mark when Noah came back into the equation again. There were some fun scenes between those two in that second half including a water park and a screamo/death metal rave-slash-gig.

There was the author's usual quirky comedy scenes included too, one of which involved suspected serial killers luring Zoe and Noah to their home during a storm. It was crazy but funny at the same time.

That end bit with the scene from the past was really cute and just sort of wrapped it up nicely.

I did enjoy this but the romance just took too long to start for me, unfortunately.

'Just The Way I Am' was the first book by Jo Watson I have ever read, despite me owning all of her books. I probably should have read 'You, Me, Forever' and ' Truly, Madly, Like Me' because all of those books seem to link (which I didn't know until the end of the book) but despite this I do think this book can be read as a standalone if you were only interested in this book. I am glad this was my first Jo Watson book because I adored it so much. It was the perfect mix of cuteness, mystery and humour. I love that this is a self-love story as well as a romance love story. I can't wait to read all of her other books now because this one was just so unbelievably good.

I loved the romance in this book. I loved seeing Noah and Zoe become instant friends and then them falling in love throughout the book. I loved reading all about the adventures that Zoe and Noah go on together and seeing Zoe finally embrace so many experiences that she was never able to have in life. I loved the little plot twist at the end and it made me tear up a little reading that chapter.

I just adored everything about this book. I just wish we got to have a few more scenes of Zoe and Noah actually together in a relationship because I loved the small snippets we got of their life at the end of the book.

I can't wait to read more of Jo Watsons books as I adored everything about this book.

Thank you to Headline Eternal for providing me with an advance copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

After reading You, Me, Forever I couldn’t wait to read another Jo Watson book.. and as soon as I saw I could wish for the new one on NetGalley I was straight on to it and SO happy when my wish was granted.

This book was wonderful! I loved everything about it, how it linked from You, Me, Forever.. the faulty elevator. Memory loss.. this is Zoe’s story.

I enjoyed reading about ‘Zoe’ and how she got through the accident, losing her memory and not knowing who she was, where she was and not remembering anything about her life... Noah the paramedic being at the scene of the accident, let’s just say he changed a lot of things.

One thing I really did like throughout is the random facts that Zoe remembered. Definitely some interesting ones!

I loved the whole story between Zoe and Noah, he’s definitely a wonderful and caring character. Reading about how their relationship grows and how Zoe relives her life with lots of happiness and colour was so lovely and uplifting.

The ending was just lovely, the card she made, bringing a flood of memories back, but for who?

I would definitely recommend this, a lovely romance with added humour! I have just ordered Truly, Madly, Like Me. I can’t wait to read about Frankie’s story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Healine Eternal for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

I love Jo Watsons writing, that will be no surprise if you’ve seen some of my older posts. She’s an absolutely fabulous author and her writing style is so witty. This book just may be one of if not her best book yet.

We follow our heroine Zoe who gets into an elevator accident...I know scary and to make matters worse she loses all her memory. She doesn’t remember her name or anything about her life, however she does know all these random facts and a new language! She has to basically learn everything and herself all over again.

Whilst finding herself she starts to feel different things towards situations and gets drawn towards them, especially Noah the paramedic on the scene. She actually feels safe with him.

When we discover her true identity we see just how different her reality is to what she believed it was and it packed an emotional punch.
Noah is also a brilliant character, he’s considerate, caring, sexy and handles the situation like a true gentleman.

This is a must read for any reader who loves a swoony romance and a story full of inspirational messages about fate and self discovery.
Another fantastic novel by Jo Watson.

This is my first time reading the work of this author, and I loved it! Rom-com is not my thing but I was able to tolerate this one.

Reading Zoe's story was really exciting and laugh-out-loud at times. She was like a child in an adult brain now discovering the good things that life has to offer - laugh, love and human connections.

I could relate to the juxtaposition of her two identities - being scared of truly letting down her guard because of trauma versus living life with a new pair of eyes (in this situation its like a new brain) and completely rewriting/redefining who she truly is without the baggage/burden of said trauma. I found myself wondering who I would be if I got a clean slate and my past memories didn't play in factor anymore in shaping who I was.

It was a beautiful story. It may have been a bit corny at times but I didn't let it prevent me from enjoying the ride.

The only burning questions I had at the end of it was - if she had 2 female friends, why did they abandon her in the elevator, what really happened in the elevator, why didn't they check up on her, and why did she reconcile with them in the end after they basically left her for dead?

Reviews can also be found on my blog Escapades of a BookwormI received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. So I was in the mood for something a little bit joyous and uplifting.  Just the Way I Am was just the right book for me. I read it non-stop this morning in the need to devour this and find out more about Noah, Zoe and everyone else.

I did feel like this was a a story about Zoe finding her feet and deciding what she wants to do with her life. After the accident and having no memory she explores her likes, her dislikes and tries some things for the first time! I loved her relationship with Noah. Without going into too much detail he is considerate, sexy as hell and knows when to say the right thing. He is definitely a man you want in your life when you've lost your memory.

Throughout I laughed and cried. I was with Zoe the whole way through. At times I wanted to shake her and see what I was seeing, at other times I wanted to hi-five her.

This felt like a book that I needed to read. Just the Way I Am is about accepting yourself, about realising that not everything is as it seems. And, no matter what if you want to be come something more, to change, no matter what you can.

This book was so much fun to read! As always check out the other blogs for the other stops, all their Social Media is below.

I have never any Jo Watson before and didn't realise there were two other books in this series until I had finished this book - whilst I don't think you need to have read them to enjoy this one, it did explain a few references that didn't make immediate sense to me as I read it. Overall, it was an easy read and perfect for a few hours of escapism.

An interesting premise, Zoe is in an elevator accident and loses her memory. Starting with a blank canvas, she remembers the kind, attractive paramedic, Noah, who took her to hospital - they become friends initially and he helps her rediscover the world and create a new life. Romance develops, but as her memory begins to return and she finds out who she really was before the accident, Noah remains by her side as she is forced to re-evaluate her life. There is a sweet and unexpected twist towards the end which adds an extra dimension to the story.

Loved this, couldn't put it down (though I had to! Life, you know...) But I also couldn't wait to get back to this, to find out what was happening, discover who the mystery narrator/POV really is. This book kept me riveted, and there was just something so flowing about the writing, it's like I blinked and the pages were gone, read, devoured even... I am definitely going to look for more Jo Watson books now. The way the story was constructed, how everything was revealed, how it all clicked and made sense - I'm only sad I get to read this book for the first time only once, because it was such a ride to 'know', to find out what was going on, what happened, and where this was going. And as much as I loved the whole story, it's a little something past the 90% mark that made it all the more magical for me. No spoilers - read it and you'll see what I mean!
(I'm curious about Becca & Frankie now - that's the only thing that kept me a little unsettled at the end)

A fab read, the third book in this series.

It starts with Zoe having amnesia and not remembering anything including who she is. Paramedic Noah is transporting her to hospital and although she doesn't remember why she knows she hates hospitals and escapes as soon as she can. With no idea where to go she heads to Noah's and although he is reluctant he agrees to let he stay while the police try and work out her identity.

Will she like the person she used to be and how will life go when she starts to remember who she is.

I was not expecting what happens towards the end of the book!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a voluntary and honest review.

In general I like Jo Watson’s books. This one started out dark then became impossibly sweet and cheesy so I kept waiting for a something disturbing happening, a weird scenario like “she actually died in the freak accident and the male character was her guardian angel designed to make her experience the full life she never had” but I guess I was wrong. Still, the second part of this book doesn’t quite add up and the “family values” ending was boring.

I started my bookstagram last July and my first 5☆ review was for You, Me, Forever by Jo Watson, so I was so excited to be sent her latest novel because I knew it would be just as amazing - and I wasn't disappointed.

I was gripped by the main character Zoe from the beginning. After a devastating accident she decides, with the help of Noah, to find herself - without knowing anything about her to begin at. She experiments in food, clothing and everything else you could think of. Until she learns who she really is completely the opposite of the fun, colourful, brave person she had built herself up to be.

The few chapters in the middle where she tries to fit in with her old life were heartbreaking. But her discovery to finding out parts she had still forgotten, had me sitting on the edge of my seat. As always Jo Watson had me in tears from laughing, I don't think I stopped throughout the whole club/beach scene. Watson writes the perfect awkward moments. Moments where I had to throw the book to the other side of the room and just laugh. It also took me till the last chapter to figure out the two books were connected slightly!

Not only is this a romantic comedy and the perfect light read. It's a book about changing your life completely, and becoming who you truly are. I couldn't recommend this book enough if you're looking for a book to fall in love with.

Another great book from jo Watson, I didn’t realise that this was a series and did wonder in the second one why these ladies all started their story in a lift, this was a lovely end to the series and zen was a wonderful character as was Noah, the story was actually quite touching at times. I had no laugh at loud moments in this book, although I did have a few smiles and it was enjoyable and worthy of the 4 stars

I'm not sure if I want to revisit. I'm about 50% in and I really did enjoy the first half and then somehow completely lost interest in it.
It's written well and does make you wonder what would happen if you, like the main character, woke up and completely forgot everything about yourself. Would you find yourself being the person you have always been or would you take risks and allow yourself to dare and dream. Really great concept!

My first Jo Watson book and I really enjoyed it.

After a couple of okay rom-coms that felt they were lacking that extra spark, this one pulled me back on track. It was sweet without veering into syrupy, had characters who were easy to relate to, depth beneath the surface and some laugh out loud moments. Plus there was a bit close to the end which brought everything full circle and was really nicely done.

I will definitely check out more of Jo Watson's books.

This wasn’t at all what I expected!! I was expecting a soppy romance but it was so much deeper than that. After getting trapped in an elevator accident, Zoe loses her memory. While trying to piece her life back together, she is excited to find that she loves colour, creativity and super spicy food. She feels in her bones that this is who she used to be so is very surprised to find that when her identity is found, her life is bland, boring and not in the slightest but creative. Zoe works with Noah, an ex paramedic who took her under his wing to find out who she really is. Going along this journey with her is so interesting. You hope that she’s going to adapt to this new life instead of fitting back into her old one. It’s a beautiful story of self discovery. I will definitely be picking up more Jo Watson books!
