Don 'Dorman' Hargrove has had a hard life. Living with his mother until he was involuntarily committed to an institution at the age of 30, he was forced to accept responsibility for himself following her death. Even upon his release, his attempts at maturity, love, and marriage were all met with tragic results.

Now at 66, Dorman is a shell of a man. Having never chosen an education or steady career, he's lived off the system, and off the generosity of others. Living in a low-to-mid income neighborhood, he barely owns anything other than the run down house he now lives in.

The only thing that Dorman has ever truly loved or cared for was his cherry-red, 1961 Corvette. But even now his beloved car is only a bleak reminder of the youth he once had taken for granted. Parked in his garage for many years, it collects only the dust of time rather than fond memories.

But this is all about to change. Dorman will take one more drive that will alter the direction of his life, and possibly unlock secrets that he's not only kept from others, but also himself. In fact, Dorman is about to become another person entirely. Someone who will force him to face his past and deal with the consequences of his lies.

Written by award-winning author David Wilson and co-authored by radio personality, Donnie Lansdale, the book is based on real people in the storyteller's life. Last Drive is a road trip that you won't want to miss!

Librarian Note: There is more than one author by this name in the Goodreads database.

Award winning author David Wilson was born on Halloween in Bangor, Maine in the late 1960s. Coming from a blue-collar background, during the 1970s much of his time was spent at their family camp deep in the woods of northern Maine where fishing, hunting, and other outdoor, non-electronic activities filled his time.

David became heavily involved in art during his childhood years and continued the hobby into adulthood. He prefers pencil and acrylics as his preferred medium and has used his amateur talent to help influence his writing through character sketches and paintings.

It wasn’t until later that David made the decision to become an author. His first completed novel, the first in his Maine humor series, was heavily influenced by true stories of his adventures, along with his father’s stories of his own childhood and early adult years.

A career law enforcement officer, David’s memoir, and second book completed, was heavily influenced from his time as a street cop and up through his later years as an undercover narcotics agent and instructor for the Maine State Police Academy. His memoir has been described as satirical, opinionated, and gritty.

After completing the second book in his Maine humor series David began to add a genre to his writing, now having published several books in the horror/thriller genre. Many still have the dark humor that David is known for in his writings and are popular with readers of the genre.

While his memoir and thrillers have been known to reflect David’s social opinions, his humor series, as the author describes them, “Are simply just for a laugh.”

David’s also collaborated with one of his book narrators on a paranormal psychological mystery that has become very popular entitled, Last Drive.

David lives in Central Maine with his wife, dog, and two cats. He still enjoys the outdoor activities and his artwork.

Last Drive by David Wilson & Donnie Lansdale
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (4.5 rounded up)

This is a very entertaining and unique storyline. The book has lots of twists, turns and mystery as well.
Don, (Dorman) a 66 year old man had struggled for much of his life and doesn’t have a lot that brings his happiness, except for his 1961 corvette. Wanting to have one last adventure, Dorman hops into his beloved car.
This book takes you on a wild journey with Dorman, as he transforms into someone else and “re-lives” adventures. The book is fast paced and really takes you for a crazy ride. I definitely did not see where this book was going! I was very surprised!

The writing is excellent and there’s very detailed imagery in this story. I felt like I was watching a movie.
Thank you to David Wilson for an audio copy of this interesting book! The narration was fantastic!!

I really enjoyed David Wilson's last book, Confessions of a Vampire...., but I really think he has outdone himself here. Last Drive is the story of a very troubled man, Don, known as Dorman. Don has been haunted by years spent committed to a mental institution, as well as years wasted, living off others. Now he finds himself approaching 70, with nothing to show for it, except the one possession he cares about, his old car. Well, not just a car, but a 1961 cherry red Chevy Corvette that has been wasting away, as he has, in his dusty garage. Dorman decides he has wasted enough of his life. It's time to get behind the wheel and take his baby out for one last adventure.
And what an adventure it is!
This book grabbed me right at the start and didn't let go until the very end.
Having read Wilson before, I feel his strength is in character building and this one is no different. You feel for Dorman, even as you witness some of the things that transpire. The dialogue is crisp and real.
It's a helluva story, perfectly written, and an easy 5 Stars for me.

I wasn't ready for this one. I mainly wanted to read this simply because of the cover art. At first, I was confused as to what was happening. Then I thought I knew what was happening. Then I realised I was wrong. Then, I had a few more theories, which were also wrong. So yeah, it kept me guessing thorought the story. Really liked the characters and the backstories. Nice ammount of violence, which I felt at first might be a bit too much, but that opinion changed by the end of the book. It's definitely worth a read this one.

A Wild Ride!

David Wilson’s Supernatural Psychological Thriller checks all the boxes for excellent storytelling, vivid details included. Don ‘Dorman’ Hargrove is an enigma, all right, stumping himself and this reader in trying to figure out his reality from fantasy from supernatural influence.

What a wild ride it is!

The significance of Ellen Bauman and Angel Tompkins help 66-year-old, bi-polar Dorman unravel the truth he’s hidden from himself all these years. If only his libido were in overdrive, and not just his Corvette, kinky Ellen may have fared better. Likewise, who knows how Dorman’s life may have turned out?

A supernatural takeover, and the environment of the 3rd Base Bar over by the railroad tracks derails Dorman into confronting himself.

A fast-paced ride with hairpin turns from start to finish, ‘Last Drive’ is a must-read.

This book was a fantastic read! There are so many little cliffhangers that keep you hooked from start to finish. The writing style itself is phenomenal as well. The story and conversations flow naturally, and the characters are so fleshed out that you can practically picture them in your head like a movie. I highly recommend this book for those who love a captivating thriller and mystery.

This story takes you on an action packed thrill ride, in a shiny red Corvette! A psychological mystery, full of maniacal sex and gruesome violence, a perfect read to spice up your book rack. Last Drive is all that and more, with the hint of an unexpected love story to leave you with an "aww, shucks", little smile for the finale.

I read the book in one sitting! David's latest is full of mystery and such intricate psychological twists that I found myself rereading the last few chapters because I needed to clarify my thoughts on this fascinating tale. David's dark humor is still there, coupled with a mystical force that keeps the reader wanting more. This story need a screenplay....Keep writing David!!
