Lisa Phillips is a USA Today and top ten Publishers Weekly bestselling author of over 80 books that span Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense line, independently published series romantic suspense, and thriller novels. She’s discovered a penchant for high-stakes stories of mayhem and disaster where you can find made-for-each-other love that always ends in happily ever after.
Lisa is a British ex-pat who grew up an hour outside of London and attended Calvary Chapel Bible College, where she met her husband. He’s from California, but nobody’s perfect. It wasn’t until her Bible College graduation that she figured out she was a writer (someone told her). Lisa is a worship leader, tea aficionado, and dog lover of two crazy Airedales.
Loved this one and how Kenna's latest case takes her from New York to London. While protecting Preston, she discovers that Preston's wife's death and her mother's death are connected and has to figure out why. Additionally, her friends are in danger. Loved the fast-paced, action-packed adventure, the flashbacks to how Kenna's parents met, and Kenna finding answers to her mother's death. Phillips expertly weaves faith threads into this story, which include trusting God and Kenna learning that she can't prevent bad things from happening. Can't wait to read Kenna's next adventure. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Aaaah, I loved the latest installment in the Brand of Justice series. This book proves that there’s plenty of life left in this series with mysteries to unravel while Kenna learns things about herself she never knew. Love the adventures of Kenna, Jax, Mazie, Ramon, and Stairns.
You could potentially pick up this book without reading the previous titles in the series, but you would miss out on some background information that is helpful to understanding this book. Also, why would you want to miss out on the previous goodness?!?
While Kenna, Jax, Stairns, Ramon, and Maizie gather in London to try to shut down the international enterprise of kidnapping young women and using them like brood mares, it turns out their prey is in France. This is a twisty-turny plot and well done by Lisa Phillips. We are a little closer to getting Jax and Kenna together but it's going to take at least one more book. I recommend reading the whole series in order or you'll never figure out who is who. I think I must have missed the last one because I don't remember anything about New Orleans. Going back to it will be anticlimactic after this one.
Just when I think I can say I have a favorite in this series, another book pops up and is totally off the charts amazing. That is “Out of Time” for me. There are not enough adjectives to describe how amazing this book truly is. Not to mention it has one of the best endings I’ve ever read in my life.
I just love how each character evolves and is able to be there for each other... Also, Lisa put thoughtful insight into how each play off each other and the knowing of each.
Author Lisa Phillips had me flipping the pages of this action-packed thriller and gripping my chair with a mixture of excitement and dread. Familiar characters filled each chapter facing different dangers than they had before. Dangers that were now focused on Kenna and those that she cherishes the most. Dangers that allude to Kenna’s past, as well as part of Maisey’s. Focusing the threats head-on is Kenna’s way, however this will be going above and beyond any danger or threat that she has ever faced. This threat targets those whom she has promised to protect at all costs. Just about everything and everyone must be protected. However, the answers that she seeks are not in America – they are in England, where Jax arranges to go for a conference for the FBI. Since action takes place and draws them almost immediately into danger, step by step Kenna works to discover her parents’ past, her past, her memories, and the reality before her. No matter how hard the truth is, Kenna knows she must face it to protect the teenage girl who has become an integrated part of her family. Even without Jax directly at her side, together they attempt to solve this case before they return home. Phillips’ words held me captive page by page and chapter by chapter. The story became alive, and the danger literally kept me holding my breath until calm, even for a minute or two, was restored!! I loved how this “family” of individuals gathered to protect one another and once again truth prevailed. I loved this book and believed that Phillips did indeed earn 5 out of 5 stars!! I received an advanced copy of this book for my opinion, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Once again I am blown away at the action packed excitement of this series. This book took me about 2 days to finish. I could barely put it down. I love the growth of these characters while a new one or two get introduced. I am anxiously awaiting the release of the next in the series, “Every which way”!!! April can’t come soon enough!!
This must have been so hard to write. Mentions of people from previous books and new characters with different subplots made this a convoluted book. The reader may want to get a notepad to keep track of all the "happenings."
We finally have more of Jax and Kenna's relationship development. It's been hard to have a romance when the pair are rarely together. This book allows for more actual relationship time. Kenna has grown and understands more about her motivations.
An excellent book and well-worth the time.
I would like to see a romance for Ramon some time.
Out of time - Lisa Phillips - brand of justice book 10
I am a huge fan of international intrigue/ spy craft and absolutely loved this novel!
I'm so glad there are more to come. This novel was wonderfully written, we learn so much more about kenna (as she is learning more about herself) and her family, seeing her relationship with jax grow, its just a wonderful book full of twists and turns, suspense, faith, love and family.
5/5 would definitely recommend and be sure to get this pre ordered and added to your tbr ASAP! Cant wait to see what's next!
"Up against an enemy unlike anything she’s ever faced.
A simple recon mission in New York City brings a terrible truth to light: their enemy knows every secret Kenna has been hiding. She doesn’t want to accompany Preston to the UK, but doing so might give her the answers she’s been looking for. About everything. All her friends seem to think it’s inevitable she’s going, and when she’s given information about her mother…it just might be.
Her investigation reveals a history she’s never known.
Kenna’s case shines a light into dark parts of her past as she travels to the last place she’d have thought was connected to her history. Her faith and her loyalty to her friends are put to the test. She finds herself with new allies, all alone and on the run, chasing an enemy that could cost her everything she’s found.
And the future she wants with Jax.
Now it’s up to her brand of justice to solve this."
Exciting as all Lisa Phillips books. Brand of Justice series is a very hard to put down series. Everyone of the books are adventure from beginning to the end.
Wow…let me say that again Wow! Every book in this series has been great. When I’ve finished each book I think Lisa can’t possibly outdo this book. I am so wrong! This is her best book in the series. It will be hard waiting to see how she tops Out of Time.
OUT OF TIME by Lisa Phillips is the 10th book in the Brand of Justice series. It’s the fabulous, action packed story of Kenna Banbury, owner of Banbury Investigations, and Oliver “Jax” Jaxton, FBI Special-Agent-in-Charge from Phoenix. Kenna is trying to work on a case for a client while trying to find answers about her family’s past at the same time. Jax, as always, will be acting as her back up. All they really have to do is survive!
Kenna’s knowledge is that her mother died when she was a baby and her father was distant and secretive meaning she knows very little about her family’s past. Preston Lightwood, who spent 20 years in jail for murdering his wife, has always held to his innocence. Now out of jail, he wants Kenna to find the person responsible to clear his name and to put this behind him once and for all. While having no desire to accept Preston as a client or to go to the UK, the lure of finding answers about her heredity lures her into accepting the challenge. As luck would have it, Kenna’s boyfriend – Jax, will be attending a work-related FBI conference in the same town at the same time. Besides having him there to watch her back, his intel for certain questions will definitely be a major plus.
Because of Kenna’s past and her very real fears, Jax is willing to take their relationship as slow and easy as she is comfortable with. With a ring in his possession, he’s ready to pop the question and start their life together - when the time is right. In the meanwhile, one thing is for sure - Jax will do anything to help Kenna to find her answers and to protect her with all his resources and his life.
When it become evident that there is someone out there that is targeting everyone Kenna holds dear, they decide to split up the team – part going with her to the UK, while the other stays at home searching out information and making sure Maizie, a teenage Kenna’s taken under her wing and considered a dear friend, that runs tech support for the business, is safe. She has already gone through so much hell in her few young years and the team agrees that she need protected at all cost. Kenna takes it as a personal threat when someone she loves is in the line of danger. Now is no exception – especially when she feels the threat is because of herself. She’s willing to face any and all dangers head on to protect those she considers as family. Will it be enough?
Will searching about her past have Kenna questioning what she thought she already knew? When attacks upon Kenna almost take her out, dare she even think about what will happen to the others if she’s not there to take the blows? When the team ends up all together will it be a help or a hindrance? How can she openly search for the ones she needs to or work to find evidence when all at once she’s the number one wanted person in this country in which she is not a resident? What is Operation Sunflower & The Frankfurt Initiative and how does it relate to Kenna? When she meets up with Bruce, will he be the ally she needs? Can Kenna bring three factors of her life – her life as she knows it including memories buried deep within, her parent’s life through what she remembers as well as written and verbal accounts, and the disturbing facts she learns about things that have gone on before them all up to the present - into one living color picture of reality? The big questions is - can they out maneuver danger, find some details about Kenna’s past, clear Kenna’s name and get back to New York with them all in one piece? Will all the danger and missing Jax have Kenna beginning to see her life with Jax in a new way?
OUT OF TIME is an exceptional, fast-paced, gripping, danger in your face and lurking everywhere story that will keep the characters on their toes and you turning pages as quickly as you can often while holding your breath. Lisa Phillips gives us a book with intrigue, danger, family – which often of the making and not by blood, two generational timelines with small snippets of first-hand accounts between Kenna’s parents, romance and nail-biting suspense that will leave you wrecked, satisfied and longing for the next new adventure all at the same time. OUT OF TIME is without a doubt FIVE STAR reading!
Although OUT OF TIME is part of a series, it can most definitely be read as a standalone book. It won’t take you long to get up to speed on the characters and their contribution to the unit and their relationship to one another. This was my first book in the series, but it most definitely will not be the last, and I had no problem getting acquainted with everyone right off.
I receive a copy of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own. #OutofTime #BrandofJustice #LisaPhillips #thrillersuspense #courage #danger #suspense
I chose a rating of 5 because I could not put this book down. It caught me right from the start. Its full of action and there are so many twists and turns you will love it. I would recomend reading the entire series. This story will keep you reading, especially if you have followed the entire series. Everything comes together and Lisa Phillips is an amazing writer. You will love all the characters and it has a happy ending. While reading it's non-stop action. It's also wonderful that the characters have become christians so it makes the most beautiful story. I would recomend this book to any christian or non-christian. It's amazing and will leave you wanting more and more. I don't want this series to end. Each book gets more intense. Oh my gosh I'm telling you to start with the first book and I promise you that you will not be able to put them down, and this book was absolutely amazing because Kenna learns she has a family, both real and the people she works with who have basically adopted her and she loves them all. She also grows into her relationship with her boy friend Jax. It's really a wonderful book and I would recomend it to anyone. Please start with the first book and read them all so you can love the characters. Thank you Lisa Phillips for yet another amazing book and for bringing God into the mess that the characters always find themselves in.
I just finished Fear No Evil and had to dive right into Out of Time. This book had so many twists and turns. The events in it were so unexpected. Lisa Phillip really outdid herself with this one. I love that Jax was more involved with this book and I can’t wait to see how much more involved in Kenna’s life and business he gets in the later books. You can really feel Kenna’s struggles as she navigates an insane new job. Her relationship with Jax was explored more and the ending was just what I needed to read. This book literally brought tears to my eyes. Happy tears, mostly. This book is definitely on my re-read list. And it needs to be at the top of everyone’s TBR list. If you enjoyed the first books in this series, you really CAN’T miss this one!
I appreciate the continuation of this series not having large gaps of time between them. We pick up after a short vacation/recovery period. While I’d have loved seeing the “meet the family” moments, they likely weren’t crucial to the overarching plot of the series. It would have been excellent for color and character development (which I love), but it wouldn’t have advanced the plot.
This book picks up exactly where the plot becomes relevant again. It starts fast-paced and somehow accelerates to the end. The progression is brisk and full of tension, and I breezed through quickly. The world continues to grow, and we start getting some long-awaited answers about Kenna’s family.
I just finished book #9 a few days ago, and it was amazing. I was excited to get a hold of an advance e-book copy of this one, and devoured it today...and it was even better. Seriously, this series gets better with each new book.
The England angle was different, and it was cool that Jax was in the whole book. He makes the perfect ying to Kenna's yang.
We learn more about Kenna's parents, and there were some big wow factors there. Great plot that was intricate and all over the place, yet easy to follow and one that kept me glued to my Kindle excited to see what was going to happen next.
Awesome ending to the book, especially in the relationship department. Can't wait for #11.
Out of Time is a test of Kenna Banbury’s skills and abilities as she has to go to the England and France, in her search for answers about what happened to her mother. I’m having a bit of a struggle with writing this review without adding spoilers. It’s just that awesome! Out of Time is filled with great characters, unexpected twists, thriller moments and some shocks. The romance in the story is light. Faith is woven throughout the storyline with just the right amount of balance with the overall plot. I highly recommend this book! My thanks to the publisher for an ARC of Out of Time. There was no requirement for a review. The opinions expressed here are mine.
This book did not become interesting until I had struggled through 44% of the book. Too much back story and emphasis on the emotions of the main character. It is one of those books I simply kept reading to get to the end of the story. Only, it wasn’t an ending, just a segue to the next book, which is supposed to be the last of the series. It won’t come out until April 2025. If you have been following this series, you will want to read Book 10 in order to be prepared for Book 11.
If you know Kenna Bradbury already, you know what happens in this book... but you won't be ready for all the crazy twists and turns! Yep, Kenna gets sucked into a case not of her choosing, and finds she is right in the middle of it all. Be prepared for the heart-stopping, suspenseful situations she finds herself in, but also walk with Kenna as she starts to realize just how much she loves her found family and is loved in return!
this is a great story . Kenna and the gang go to England to help and discover more about her dad and mother. this story is none stop to the end , Kenna is hit with more info than she can process but then the carvery arrives to help her. this is the best story so far looking forward to the next book
Sometimes I try to imagine having the ability to write a breath stopping book like Lisa Phillips does. Kenna is one of the best heroines I have run into in a long time. I found myself holding my breath wondering if she was going to make it out of this alive. I guess you will have to read it to find out..
Went to UK with no help, then France no help, what a mistake.
Goid read. What a mess, people getting killed no help from the locals. End up on the wanted list, Jax in holding. Believe she should have stayed in the US where she would be safe. Answers are needed. It's hard to follow the trail for the answers at needs. Will she get there?
If I could I would give this book 10 stars. As with every book in this series, there’s be danger and angst and fear, but with saying that, there has been love and loyalty. I absolutely love Kenna, Jax and the crew, and love all the new acquaintances or friends we meet along the way. Fabulous read.
I have really enjoyed this series and this story is no exception. There is a lot of tension and action. I love how Kenna grows more in her faith throughout the series and learns more about her own background.
Love the plot of Out Of Time. Slowly but surely additional details are revealing what has turned out to be a world wide plan for domination. But Kenna and her grafted in family are determined to find and destroy the organization that has destroyed so many lives.
