Whoa whoa whoa, that was a crazy ride. The progression of each character was unreal, the format the storytelling took place in was unique and had a way of making it feel more real if that makes sense idk very very good also very long lmao

My reviews are to remember what I’ve read and not to sway other readers. I am not giving this a star rating since I know someone spent their time and effort writing this, which I read for free.

I am not a Potter fan but did like Manacled and The Auction so I tried this. Reading this book was like wading thru mud… slow, tedious, and left me feeling dirty.

Hermione was just a whiny, judgmental bitch. War or not… these traits only seemed to impact her. Malfoy was very toxic and less redeemable than the others I’ve read.

It was basically long drawn out passages about people finding comfort in sexually degrading one another in a time of war… using one another as distractions while building some kind of relationship they keep hidden. It would have been more tolerable with less words but the war scene, argument scene, sex scene repeated so many times that I lost interest and began to skim just to see how it ended.

It might be a decent character study given different names - and since it has no HP vibes at all, it wouldn’t make much difference.

Ummm I’m usually obsessed with Draco, but this has got to be my least favorite Draco Malfoy yet. Yeah, the smut was steamy but he just stays a prick the whole book. Not even at the end is he nice to her.

Hermione was whiny. Harry was annoying. The most random characters got so much screen time. Still can’t tell you who Justin is.

The timing labels kept confusing me. I had to keep going back and forth to figure out how much time had passed between sections.

The action sequences were absolutely impossible to follow. I was literally so confused, more than half the time, which shouldn’t be the case if we’re not in a first person POV. Which we weren’t.

This was waay too long. And there are giant sections of this book that add literally nothing to the storyline.

I’m bummed because I had such high hopes for this, and was really let down. I did like the Ron twist. I didn’t see that coming. So, two stars I guess.

i’m glad i didn’t know this book was almost 1,000 pages bc i probably wouldn’t have started it. this is the closest i’ve come to feeling like i did after manacled. you’re in it for the long haul, experiencing the war and character development first hand but UGH so good. definitely not everyone’s style though

August 2025 - haven't really read much lately and nothing I truly enjoyed so really itching to read this one again. Already in chapter 8 and have that "can't stop reading" feeling. I love it.
So much push and pull, in her head, miscommunication between the two but gah it brings me back for me. It’s a very long story and now it’s got me wanting to read my other fave fan fics again.
-----------

Where do I go from here? I loved this so much, i thought it was written so well - I have no idea how people can imagine to continue/create a storyline like this. I was entirely sucked in - I loved how the storyline progressed. I loved watching their relationship develop, loved every moment Draco was involved. And, it was explicit but I loved seeing them together in those moments. It was dark, sad, but wonderful all the same. Definitely a favorite of mine.

I will say, I get it’s a magic world but man the amount of times they are on the brink of death but yet magic heals them right up (except mentally). That kind of got repetitive.

I’d say HEA kinda… but it was a tough ride to get there.

This was a behemoth of a fic at over 300k words but somehow I was sat from 20% in and could not put this down. All gas no mf breaks as they say and whilst it’s heavy on the battle scenes it was also such a beautiful portrayal of their complicated relationship unfurling. One that will stay with me a while. 🫶🏼

it took me a minute to get into this one (more like an hour cause this fic is loonnggg lol), initially wasn’t sure about the writing style/format but it ended up sucking me in and I couldn’t put this thing down. More battle focused than I was maybe expecting, but such good character growth and of course a perfect Draco redemption arc

i just couldn't get on board with weak, useless Hermione. She wasn't brilliant, skillful or helpful really in anyway. It was a little hard to get through. There is a LOT of over explaining about how she's FEELING that went on for AGES. It's was ok.

extremely long but worth every single second. dramione fanfics just never disappoint and this one, dear i say… is almost on the same level as manacled 🥹. the slow burn was indeed slow burning. super glad i started this a month ago, as i’ve taken a lot of inspiration from this author’s writing style 😉.

special mentions to..

“but sometimes the things we want aren’t the things we need.” “but sometimes you need to take a chance in life.” “and you need to make sure the chance is worth taking.”

“i love you.” (not the confession at the very VERY END. honestly thought it was never coming.)

“hour: one” 🤭

2026 might be my new fanfic era (again).

So, this was a journey. Definitely a classic. I really, really liked it, but honestly, it could’ve been 500 pages shorter, and that’s the only reason it’s not going on my Top Tier shelf.

Overall, this fic was so mature, with beautifully written, heavy topics and powerful discussions. You can feel the weight and seriousness of war in every moment, in every mundane scene. The writing itself is incredible, and I especially loved the daily chapter format, it really emphasizes how time seems to drag, like the days never pass.

This version of Draco was one of the best I’ve ever read. I LOVED him. He stayed so true to the original character: toxic, sarcastic, so hot, intelligent, cold. His redemption arc was perfectly handled, and his relationship with Hermione? Absolutely AMAZING. It felt realistic and mature, full of tension and so much chemistry. You can really feel that mysterious, sexy vibe (the smut was OUT OF THIS WORLD AMAZING). I loved that he was the one constantly challenging Hermione, making her question her beliefs and worldview, instead of it being the other way around. That felt fresh and compelling.

Now, Hermione… was kind of a letdown. To be honest, she didn’t feel like her at all. I’m all for some changes in character portrayals, but at times she just felt dumb and overly naive, something Hermione Granger would never be. Compared to Harry, Ron, and Draco, she felt nerfed, and that wasn't necessary for the plot. She could’ve been a badass, smart, strategic, a great fighter, and still fallen for Draco. Instead, he often came across as the more mature and intelligent one, and that frustrated me a bit.

Another thing that didn’t sit right with me was the lack of magic and the general wizarding ambiance. They were constantly doing Muggle things (eating popcorn, watching TV), and it felt off. It seemed like the author wasn’t quite sure how to naturally weave magic into everyday life, so she just avoided it with some very simple excuses. And that’s a shame, because the magical setting is such a big part of what makes this universe special.

That being said, I really liked the story and the relationship. It’s just not going on my Top Tier shelf because this version of Hermione didn’t work for me. But the rest? Spectacular.

This is a war time fic. Draco seeks redemption, helps by being a member of the Order of the Phoenix, offering the manor and his resources for Phoenix business, supports missions as a strategist and fighter. To cope with the violence of war, he and Hermione finds comfort in each other… both in denial of what they have… fast physical relationship but slow burn emotional relationship. The fic is told in sort of journal entries or chronologically with date and time stamps. This helps with timeline but it’s kinda of a harsh storytelling format, in that the story doesn’t flow smoothly.

”They are her ugliest scars, and the ones he favours most”. UGHHHHH

She was long. A little too long, in my opinion. Was also hard to get in to because of the snippets of time - I felt like it was taking too long for me to be invested in the characters.

However!!!

Harry & Ron annoy me in this (no surprise) but Harry gets better toward the end.

Hermione & Draco being captured was so sad. Giving Aelin & Fenrys.

The twist about Ron!!! Didn’t see coming

I also think I can’t be surprised by Daddy Draco and he does it AGAIN. The spice & tension was *chefs kiss* he is *yum*

Like, so yum. 😮‍💨

I think this Draco is in my top 5 but not necessarily the story itself? Wanted Hermione to be a little less “woe is me” and a little more badass.

I thought that Dramione for me was like chocolate: even the bad is still pretty good. I was wrong. This book made me suffer. The writing is really bad, and the plot non-existent. Both Draco and Hermione were the worst portrayals I have encountered by far. I basically DNFed the last 20% because I simply could not power through any longer. Zero stars.

Day 981; Hour: 4 “"We're in the bloody fallout, Granger."
Day 1571; Hour: 16 “I'm in love with you, Draco Malfoy. How's that for a fallout?”

Tbh, very long and I had to reread so many times bc the author failed to identify the speaker. Really good plot and love the story and the way Draco & Hermione find comfort in each other in the midst of war. But still good overall!

This was a beautifully written story. The way the war is portrayed here feels way more real than it ever did in the original books. It’s longer, messier, and a lot more painful. The way the writer describes the characters living in a world like that was so well done. The trauma and fear and bravery people mustered up, it felt very real and raw.

I also really liked that Hermione forms deep connections outside of Draco or the golden trio(+Ginny). I enjoyed them being barely around in the first half. It gave space for other characters like Justin, Neville, Seamus, Dean, Cho, and Lavender to really come to life. I feel like that's something that canon lacked so seeing some character building for them was lovely. These friendships were probably my favourite part of this fanfic all together.

Draco was written so well. EveryTuesday always nails his character. He’s complex, angry, stubborn, snarky, funny and sweet at times he needs to be. Honestly this is how he should be written, always. Hermione was strong and smart and obviously brave, but I didn’t love the way she talked about God so much and kept bringing it up. I understand war might lighten up some beliefs or hopes people have but it felt very not Hermione to keep pressing the issue. She's supposed to be a logical character and to me it felt weird for her to have such prominent faith. It just didn’t really fit her, in my opinion. Draco’s take on it made more sense, and I kind of wished she felt the same way.

There were a few little things that pulled me out of the story, like mentions of Hot Pockets, Twizzlers, and Fahrenheit. The story is supposed to be set in the UK and these things are very obviously American. I understand that it is probably written by an American writer. Not a huge deal, but still noticeable.

I've also noticed that this author seems adamant on using more muggle methods etc instead of leaning heavily into the magic angle. It felt a bit weird sometimes to have the safe houses be magic free and I felt like there was little explanation for it except them "being in a muggle neighbourhood" even though the muggles would see absolutely nothing, and there's even towns that have both Wizard and muggle living there. It felt out of place. The same with how long they'd be staying in the hospital for. They have magic , a bruise is fixed within seconds, they didn't need to be there so long.

The romance between Draco and Hermione was really different from what I’m used to. It was intense and physical, more about needing each other and surviving a war than about exploring feelings or sharing softness. I’m not sure if it’s my favorite version of them, but it made sense in this story and kept me hooked.

The writing style is also something I really liked. The short, fragmented way of writing, and the way characters talk over each other in arguments, it just works so well. It makes the emotions feel real, like you're right there with them. I haven’t read many stories written like that, and I really enjoyed it.

The only thing I missed was an epilogue. I kept reading, thinking maybe there would be one at the end, especially with the last 100 days stretched over so many pages. But it never came. I know this author usually doesn’t write epilogues, but I always crave one after going through so much with the characters.

Overall, this is definitely one of the best Dramione stories I’ve read. It’s heavy and emotional, but also beautiful. Even though there were a few things I didn’t love, I’m really glad I read it.
