The wait is over. Brody James and his partner, Bullock, return for the sequel to the Eric Hoffer Award for Independent Books nominee “The Boys Are Back in Town.”
Brody, and fellow officer Libby Evans, were looking for Roger. Instead, they found Tom Downing. Dead in a park.
Carson McCall was found shot in the alley behind the Booker Building. And Brody’s quirky neighbor was seen fleeing the scene.
The boys are back in town. And they’re “Takin’ Care of Business.”

“Will this be a long story?” I asked, knowing the answer already.
To Bullock, there is not a short story. His stories are rarely linear. They’re like an audio presentation of that kid’s path from school to home in Family Circus comic strip.
“Why?” he asked.
“Well, if it’s going to be a long drawn-out story, we’ll drive around for a few,” I said. “But if it’s quick, and I doubt it will be, we’ll head straight to the station and you can finish before we get there. I’ll park and then we’ll go inside.”
“What if it takes longer than all of that?”
“I’m not sure,” I said as I scanned the area making sure nothing nefarious was afoot. “I guess it depends.”
“I mean, I’ll feel bad if I don’t finish and we have to sit in the car.”
“Will you?” I asked.
“Not really.”
“I can’t imagine it’ll be the first time you finished and then just sat in a car.”

"Takin’ Care of Business is an entertaining, character-driven mystery packed with sharp banter, small-town intrigue, and plenty of twists. Brody and Bullock’s dynamic adds humor and heart to a case that grows more complex with every clue. The mix of shady dealings, false leads, and quirky side characters keeps the story engaging from start to finish. A fun, well paced police procedural that fans of the series and mystery lovers in general will really enjoy.
