Dark Oz #3

No Place Like Home

Rate this book
Condemned by lies. Driven by vengeance. Bound for death.

Mine will be the first public execution in a century. Only problem is, I’m innocent.

Well, mostly.

A single bullet shattered my world, bringing down the men who swore to protect me, and stealing my newfound freedom. The Wizard promised salvation, but the only thing I have now is a prison cell and a date with a guillotine.

This entire nightmare was engineered by one woman: the self-proclaimed Queen of Oz. She orchestrated the death of my parents and framed me for her crimes. Now, I’m paying for her sins, and the world loves her for it.

I’ve faced horrors before. My Aunt Em sold me. The Witchers brutalized me. King drugged me. Beaten and betrayed, I always fought my way back. I’ve never been a victim and I’m not about to become one now. The Queen wants a spectacle? She doesn’t know what she’s asking for.

They made me their villain. It’s time I started acting like one.

Geneva Monroe’s "Dark Oz" series concludes with NO PLACE LIKE HOME, a deliciously dark reimagining of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Perfect for fans of Tate James, Katee Robert, and Emily McIntire, this pulse-pounding, mafia-inspired romance will leave you breathless. Prepare yourself for a journey where survival is the only rule, and betrayal lurks around every corner.

THE DARK OZ SERIES is not a paranormal or fantasy series. It is an 18+ romantic suspense with dark themes, and the main character has multiple love interests. For a complete list of content warnings and triggers please visit the author's website.

Most days, you can find Geneva wandering the streets of her small colonial town or snuggling up beside a fire with her husband, son, and two cats. No matter the location, she probably has a book in one hand and a macchiato in the other.

Mind freaking blown! The perfection that is this series needs to be read by all! This is a dark romance that carries a lot of possible triggers, but the intensity of the book is what makes it so good. Every now and then you need to go to the dark side and when you do, please make it this series you read! Dorothea, Danny, Crowe, and Nick are Dorthy, the lion, the scarecrow, and the tin man! This book is all the scary things about the Wizard of Oz - to the extreme! And this final book will rip your heart out and leave you ugly crying. I can’t wait to read what other people think of this book! If I could give more than 5 stars I would, but since we only have a 5 star rating system, I’d will have to do! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"Hello Auntie Em, I'm home."

WOW... is all I can say right now. Literally stunned to silence.

This was perfection. I needed time to collect my thoughts on this absolutely EPIC ending to this series. I finished this book a week ago, and I had to sit on it for a while. As always, please check the trigger warnings FIRST before diving into this book or this series. While I absolutely love it, it may be too dark for some readers and that's OKAY. Your mental health matters. 💚🖤💚

That being said, Oz DAMN this book was one emotional roller coaster after another. If you've been on this journey with us since book one, you know our girl Thea has been THROUGH IT. It's been a rough ride full of heart-stopping action, panty-melting spice, brutal heartbreak and earth-shattering discoveries, and this book is no exception. Book two left us on the edge of our seats with our hearts in our throats, and book three picks up right where it leaves off sparing no time or feelings, and man did I have BIG feelings. Lots of tears were shed reading this book. My heart hurt a lot, but this is one of the best retelling and best series I have ever read.

Did you peep the easter eggs she dropped in this series? And that epilogue? 😉

There's a lot that happens in this book, and so many things I would love to share, but given that it's the conclusion of this amazing series, I will keep my review spoiler free. If you have been on the fence about starting this series, you need to go start it immediately. Geneva has masterfully built a STUNNING new world of Oz that is familiar to readers and fans of the original Oz story, but uniquely and beautifully her own. It’s been an absolute honor being on this journey with you, Geneva. Well done!

Thank you so much to Geneva Monroe for an advance review copy of this book.

Wow, that was a whole big rollar coaster of a ride. I absolutely love all the various OZ references, and I love Thea and her men. The cast of badass characters and the actions scenes were top-notch. The book has me all over the place with sadness and heart-pounding scenes. I wasn't a big fan of the ending and needed a little more of the after, but overall, an outstanding wrap-up to the series.

Wow what I wild ride. Holy moly. I’m still processing what I just read. This is the epic conclusion to Thea, Nick, Crowe and Danny’s story and I’m still speechless.

This is a dark why choose wizard of Oz retelling and it is NOT your childhood wizard of Oz. It’s dark, gritty, emotional, traumatic and a wild ride. I don’t want to give anything away since this is book 3 and the final book in the series. All I’ll say is I loved it every sad, dark, crazy, insane part of it Geneva you evil genius. This book takes you on an emotional roller coaster that doesn’t let off until the end.

This is a phenomenal series about personal growth, healing from trauma, finding your own power and bravery and finding your chosen family. It’s so dang good and I cannot wait to see what is next.

I have read the previous two books, I want to say obviously, but sometimes people don’t. If for some reason you haven’t, you need to. Growing up I could never make up my mind, I wanted to either be Alice or Dorothy. Of course I was smarter than them, I would have stayed in Oz or Wonderland, PULEEZE! When I first saw the promo and request for readers for Dark Oz I almost crawled into my computer volunteering. Three books down, and Geneva never let me down. She’s a twisted, evil, mind manipulating, terror with a word processor, but damn can that woman create a book.
I’m not going to give any spoilers, what I will tell you is that Geneva gave us a world that we can only dream really exists. Luckily for me every time I miss it, all I have to do it pick these books back up and I can go back. Thea, Nick, Danny, Crowe, Nonna, Toto, Daisy, Ginger, Maddox, and so many other characters make up Oz. Every loss made me cry and scream. At the beginning of No Place Like Home I swear if I didn’t know for fact that Geneva promised us a HEA I was going to hunt her down, I believed it, my heart broke. Better than the desk I guess. (that is the only hint you get).

This book is not for the faint of heart, or for those who cannot handle the dark and evil parts of the world. There is no shying away from the evil that people, or how trauma and abuse destroy people physically, emotionally and mentally. Watching how Thea and her men worked through the damage done to them, and finally found their way home was truly beautiful. Also, in case you were wondering, there was also a LOT of serious primal, dominant, deviant, passionate, scorching hot interactions between Thea and her men. Because yeah, it’s a dark ROMANCE! And boy did Geneva bring it. Thank you.

Oh and really? Geneva you are the Queen of Unholy Twisted Epilogues!

Gen…I love you girl…but how many times can you rip my heart out in one book? ALL THE WAY TO FINAL PAGE! This was the perfect, action packed final installment to this series that I have loved from Day 1, and will now cherish for, well, forever, probably. All the loose ends were tied up, definitely some heartbreak thrown in there with some happy endings as well (a Geneva speciality of course). Overall, one of my favorite series of all time. Definitely a great dark romance that adds just enough humor to not feel so overwhelming all the time, you know what I mean? If you’re new to dark romance, I honestly would say this is a good beginner series, but still one that advanced readers will love as well. These books did the original Wizard story so much justice as a retelling, I never felt like it ruined it the original at all, and in fact it just endeared these books to me even more. I’m sad it’s over, but loved every moment of the journey and will continue to love it. (Also, loved that little set up at the end there girl…can’t wait for that series either 👀). Oh and spoiler time…

Thank you for bringing my boy Crowe back to me, I wouldn’t have survived without him. Top 3 book boyfriend of all time. For real. I mean I had hope, but until his name popped up I still was a bit panicked. 10 chapters was a bit of wait, kinda rude to be honest, but it’s fine. I survived, and we made it though and he’s not just alive but all okay so I forgive you Gen. Maybe. Haven’t actually decided yet. But anyway, enough on my rant about Crowe that has honestly been in every review of this series, (seriously, why do you hate him? he deserves so much more?) Overall, a must read book, a must read series, and if you decide not to, well I’m questioning your taste in books (but maybe don’t if you can’t handle the triggers, yeah definitely check the warnings first.)

Wow, what more could you ask for for the finale of the Dark Oz trilogy?! No Place Like Home delivers everything you could ask for - action, spice, humour, heart-stopping moments and thrill.

No Place Like Home is the final instalment of the Dark Oz trilogy. It is a dark retelling of the Wizard of Oz and a contemporary why-choose, mafia romance. Polite reminder - these books are intended for 18+ and not for minors, and with that being said they cover some dark themes. Please look up the trigger warnings before jumping into these books, these can be found on the author's website.

As with all of Geneva's work, there is never a dull moment when it comes to writing. You jump from thrilling action scenes, to swoon-worthy heartfelt interactions, to the spiciest hook-ups, to chapters that leave you gasping for breath as you follow the characters on their whirlwind of a life. Geneva's writing style is intoxicating, and losing yourself within the pages is easy. Firmly within her villain era, plenty of chapters will leave you simultaneously cursing Geneva Monroe's name and begging her for more.

It's hard to write too much about the actual story of NPLH without giving anything away, so I'm going to say this. Before starting the Dark Oz trilogy I was a little apprehensive, as I had never actually been a fan of the Wizard of Oz, and I worried that some of the aspects of a retelling would be lost on me. However, I have great trust in Geneva and know that I absolutely adore her writing style, and I am so glad that I gave it a chance. It has been a spectacular, breath-taking journey and I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Although not always a happy story, I would thoroughly recommend anyone to strap into this rollercoaster of emotions and enjoy, you won't regret it. Oh, and keep an eye out for easter eggs.

Thank you Geneva for this masterpiece, and for allowing me the opportunity to be an arc reader.

This series was all and everything that I never knew I needed. The Wizard of Oz was a childhood favorite of mine. I remember being excited for the movie to finally be on TV, since I didn’t own it, and sitting so close I could see each sequin in Dorothy’s shoes. It was something I always looked forward to, and even searched for the hanging man every time. IYKYK.

I never imagined I'd feel those same feelings as an adult reading the freaking fantastic Wizard of Oz retelling that is the Dark Oz Series. Geneva Monroe did an impeccable job of creating a world so familiar but so different and her own at the same time. Her writing is flawless and flows for days. Her words are able to wrap around you like a warm blanket, keeping you within the pages for as long as possible. I had to physically put it away because it was too hard to set down.

I don’t know how she did it, but I felt like that little girl sitting in front of the TV, waiting to be freaked out by the hanging man again. I immersed myself so much into this book, I could see Thea’s fiery red hair, Danny’s cowardice, Crowe’s impulsiveness (i.e., sometimes brainless, but this dude is macgyver), and Nick’s metal protected heart. I loved everything she did, from taking pieces of a classic to creating something of her own that is similar yet different and mesmerizing, just like the movie. Being an adult and reading this series, I was able to connect with my inner child and feel those same core memories again whilst creating new ones.

Thank you, Geneva, for writing this and giving me the opportunity to ARC read. You did an absolutely amazing job, and I am elated to see what comes next.

“She made me her villain….its time I started acting like one.”

⚠️❗️First of all, please take into account that this is a dark mafia romance book and it’s not intended for minors! Please check out the TW’s that Geneva has included at the beginning of the book and please take care of your mental health because it matters! ❤️

Now on to the review! 💚

Oh…..my…….OZ!!!!!! Geneva did not hold back and she came out swinging! Geneva has hit this one clear out of the park with the grand slam epic conclusion to the Dark Oz trilogy!!! If I could, I’d give this book a 10⭐️ rating because this book is THAT good!!! Or better yet, I just want to give Geneva all the stars because she is a Master Jedi with her writing and the ability to connect with her readers on a different level!

This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster from hell with masterfully weaved plot twists that will have you at the tippy toe edge of your seat wondering what Geneva is going to pull out of her sleeve next! Your heart and adrenaline will be pumping from the action, you will be panting and fanning your face from the 🌶️🔥, and you will definitely be in your feels from the emotional damage.

So buckle up and grab your emotional support item(s) and tissues because you will definitely need them on this wickedly awesome conclusion to the Dark Oz series! Trust me…..you’ll need them!

“And if I want a blood bath?” I breathed back, leaning into him. He pressed his lips to my neck, “Then we can bathe in it together.”

This pretty much sums up this third and final book in the Dark Oz series.

If you’ve not read Dark Oz and The Witch is Dead, I HIGHLY recommend you go read those first! Mostly because you won’t know what in the twisted brick road is going on.

Now that you’ve read the first two books, hold on to your sparkly slippers because the wild is just getting started.

Thea has been through the ringer - it seems like everyone wants her dead or has painted her as a villain and then wants her dead.

Push this girl into a corner and you’ll find her scary Crow, her fierce Danny Lion, and her Italian tin man coming to tear the whole thing down with her.

And they uncover years of corruption and lies that will light the dynamite that will end all her enemies - but will it happen before they end her?

I just can’t give any more than that - you need to read the book. Make sure your chores are done, the kids are fed, and you’re set up to go over the rainbow one more time.

Well Oz damn! When I got the first Dark Oz book for free in a SYKD, I didn't realise that I would have an absolute blast reading THREE books in a thrilling, dark, morbidly funny, and overall fantastic series. I've never read a retelling before, much less dark retelling, but can confirm this one will surely be hard to top. I absolutely loved the way she continued to bring Wizard of Oz easter eggs and information in till the very end, and in a thoughtful way, not just as an afterthought.
I loved the action in this book, she writes it so descriptively but still paces it so well.
The stakes were so high and the adrenaline rushes just kept going: again, to past me; be careful what you wish for because your heart can barely take it! Plot twist after plot twist that I didn't see coming but again, ✨dumb girl✨ here so maybe that's just me
I love that all three books seem to have their own very specific style and vibes, while still tying together into a super cohesive story.
The ending felt a bit rushed for a decently long book, would have liked more of the 'after' but also know this is only the end... for now 👀

Wow once again another 5 star book by Geneva Monroe. I was not expecting to cry as much I did reading this book. This whole trilogy was 5 stars for me. I laughed, I cried, I blushed I kicked my feet. If you haven’t read this trilogy you need to. These 3 men Danny, Nick and Crowe will have you swooning for them and rooting for nothing but a happy ending for them and Thea. Thea is a badass woman who doesn’t take anyone’s shit, she is the strongest female character I have ever read and I stand by that. She never backed down from a fight and always stood by her 3 men. And Danny nick and Crowe did the same for her. Which made the love they had for her even stronger nothing could ever stop them from being together and fighting for each other. The spicy scenes in these books were fantastic loved them actually. I am very sad however of the death of Kyle and Toto ( daffodil) I was so sad that Danny and Ginger didn’t get longer with her, but she died doing what she wanted to do… take down the farm. But I am so excited for the next series she is writing that comes out in 2025 you best believe I will be reading it as SOON as it comes out!

Great conclusion for this dark and twisted series…. This book had a lot going on with all our favorite characters. I think my only complaint is that there was not a lot of spice, don’t get me wrong, there was spice I personally just wanted more. Lots of things that needed to happen, did. Thea got her revenge and saved some of those that were innocent when she could. YBR boys got the girl and helped her with revenge as well as help her with her trauma. New characters were introduced, think dark Alice in Wonderland, that definitely helped the story. Which ties us to Gigi… Gigi got what was coming to her but… plot twist sounds like we will be seeing more on her in the next series this wicked author is creating. I for one can’t wait to see what is next. Once again she has left us with wanting more and with a cliffhanger. Ending one series but hinting at the next that will be with new characters but tie into this series a bit. Geneva Monroe is my favorite author and I can’t wait for her next dark series.

I will start off with the same note I give on all dark romance reviews: MIND THE TRIGGER/CONTENT WARNINGS!!!! Nothing is more frustrating for me than seeing people criticize an amazingly crafted book for something the author clearly stated in their TWs. At the end of the day, it is you, my fellow reader, who must be honest with yourself over what you can handle reading and what you can’t.

Okie dokie, since that part is out of the way, let’s dive into my thoughts on No Place Like Home.

Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Buckle up buttercups, NPLH reads like a godsdamn roller coaster from hell. Geneva Monroe takes us to the lowest of lows, and the highest of highs in her conclusion of the Dark Oz series. The best way I can describe it is “masterfully written emotional torture.” Have your tissues, emotional coping substance of choice, and throwable objects at the ready. I promise you won’t regret it.

Wow! Speechless

When I read Dark Oz ahile ago, I fell in love with this retelling and couldn't wait to read Book 2, then Book 2 left me reeling with that cliffhanger and couldn't wait for this book and boy, oh boy I was not disappointed at all!

Thea has been through so much and so many emotions felt in this book. So many tears shed but I really love this retelling so much. I can truly say that this is my favorite retelling. Geneva really put my heart through the ringer. This is a dark book so please read thw triggers.

I can't say much more because I don't want to spoil this amazing book for anyone. Just Love Thea and the guys so much and Nick with his Italian is just chef's kiss. The spicy scenes are fire. If you haven't read Dark Oz the start of all this, be sure to pick it up now amd binge this retelling of a classic childhood book. Can't wait to see what Geneva does next.

Includes toys, ropes, and a giant bean bag…OH MY!

“Oh, Pretty Girl, you should have been running.”

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

The epitome of trauma, rage, and revenge but in the sexiest of ways! Thea and the boys of YBR Cab Co have been put through the wringer and they are still swinging/shooting/stabbing…you get the point. In this book Thea has to start dealing with her demons to take back her life and get the long awaited tastes of freedom. Of course Crowe, Danny, and Nick are there seething but VERY supportive (to include toys, ropes, and a giant bean bag) through all of her decisions even when it means going to war with Ozmandria’s new leadership and crime boss.

I loved it! This was mafia storybook retelling of my dreams and am sad to see it end. HOWEVER…ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THAT EPILOGUE!!! I’ll see you at the tea party!

What a spectacular end to this series. I enjoyed this book a lot. There was lots of spice, action, revenge, and it was satisfying. I loved the part where Thea is dressed like the movie character Dorothy. It was so twisted.

The spice in the book was there as a nice background to the main story. It was just as graphic as the previous books. She weaves those scenes in perfectly.

There are a couple of missions in the book. The one is a rescue mission with a good deal of gore. They were tense and kept me hooked to the story. If you’ve been reading the series, it is twisted and dark in the best way. The other main mission is the revolt. It was another tense scene with major plot points. I liked how the book was wrapped up so well. I was concerned the end would feel rushed, but it didn’t.

2025 she comes out with a new series that ties into this one. I’m excited to see what’s next!

Wow what an amazing read - I was on the edge from start to finish - Geneva Monroe has out done herself . No Place Like Home" is a must-read for fans of dark romantic suspense. It's a story that will leave you breathless and craving more long after the final page is turned.

My thoughts

Thea's transformation from a wronged individual to a formidable force is brilliantly portrayed. One compelling moment is when she reflects on the betrayal by her Aunt Em, the Witchers, and King. Each betrayal has left scars, but these scars fuel her determination to fight back. This character depth adds a rich layer to the narrative, making her journey one that I can deeply empathize with. Gut-wrenching to say the least! The number of times I almost threw my Kindle.

The interactions with her multiple love interests ( Danny, Crowe and Nick ) are not just romantic subplots but integral to her development and the story's progression. Each relationship is unique and serves to highlight different aspects of her personality and resilience. The chemistry is palpable, and the emotional stakes in these relationships add another layer of intensity to the story.

From the very first page, the stakes are sky-high, and Monroe doesn't let up, delivering a story that is as relentless as it is captivating.

No Place Like Home is the conclusion of the Dark Childhood Retelling of The Wizard of Oz.

Geneva Monroe’s twist on this story gave me thrills beyond what I imagined. She has a gift to bring us all into her world and make us want to stay.

This story is the conclusion of Thea and her Men Crow, Nick & Danny finding the truth and closer to what all has happened to not only them but all of Oz.

No Place Like Home gives us a whirlwind of emotions and had me hyperventilating on multiple occasions. It was glorious and a trip I plan to take over and over.

I highly recommend this entire series and with the ending I can’t wait to go back into this parallel world Geneva has coming up for us next!

Che. Cazzo. Stai. Dicendo? - What. The. F@ck?

That about sums it up but in a good way.
What a grand adventure this series has been.
I personally never thought that a dark retelling of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz of all stories would hold me captivated. I was caught hook, line, and sinker from the very first chapter in the first book!

This final installment of the Dark OZ trilogy is a no holds barred. I felt that this was the darkest of all three books, so be warned. This book has the high intensity angst the drama the choase , so many twists and turns ,heart wrenching losses with an epic finale.

The Wicked World will continue with
Savage Wonderland 2025, bring it on.

This story does have sensitive themes
