Outcry in the Barrio by Freddie Garcia is a story that’s been lingering on my husband’s bookshelf for over a decade, having been handed out for free in their neighborhood. It’s now out of print, but I’m glad I finally got around to reading it.
The beginning is gripping, telling the story of a man spiraling into addiction who has a literal "come to Jesus" moment that turns his life around for good. He dives headfirst into religion, eventually starting a ministry to help other addicts get clean. It’s an inspiring journey of redemption, and the first part really pulls you in.
However, as the book progresses, it starts to get a little dry. The religious language, while central to the story, can become a bit much after a while. The passion is there, but by the end, it feels a bit repetitive.
All in all, Outcry in the Barrio is a solid read with a powerful message of redemption, but be prepared for a bit of a slog towards the end. I'm glad I read it, though—it’s definitely a story that sticks with you.
I've read this book a couple of times, but every time I re-read it,it always inspires me. Outcry in the Barrio is about Freddy Garcia's journey through life.Garcia came across a lot of obstacles, with drugs, violence, etc. But in the end he conquered all.He fixed his life through Jesus.Freddie and Ninfa Garcia, became one with the ministry, and reached out to people on the streets. This book made me realize that there is hope, and that's one reason why I loved it.Another reason why I loved it was reading the journey that Freddy and Ninfa went through.
This book was beautiful in so many ways. It displays how much God loves us and fights for us. Totally transformed in mind body and soul is what blessings I received while reading this and I will never forget this book! I am so encouraged and inspired by all that God did in response to the willing and obedient hearts that chose to no longer be slaves to sin but gave their lives to God!!! This is an incredible ministry and I highly recommend this book to anyone addicted to anything.
This book has stuck with me for a very long time. It is the first book that showed me what i dont want to be! It made me cry and made me think about wiser decisions for my future. Thinking back on it now, this book is of things that everyone has been through. True life story that hits the heart and makes it easier to see that there is always a better tomorrow.
I read this book when I was 14 years old, after seeing the play twice, presented at our church by Mr. Garcia. I never forgot that play and I never forgot his story! This story has impacted my life from 14 years old to now, at 37 years old (next month). Life is not easy, just as myself, you will hit some bumps in the road, but you will make it through, you have a reason for living to read this review, you matter to somebody, even if you have not met them yet. I urge you to read this story, I'm 100% sure that it will impact your life in a positive way as well. Remember, nobody is perfect. God loves us all no matter what. God Bless!
Explores the details of heroin addiction. Author battles a serious heroin addiction feels sick this story is amazing if you want to learn about sobriety! It’s a religious book as well so it’s twice as great!
Inspirational. Intense and heart wrenching. Book worthy of one sitting. He ministered through his book and I enjoyed it. Beautiful philanthropist work at its' finest. Rest in Peace Pastor Garcia.
I read this book because it was recommended to me by my church. Before reading the book I had no knowledge that the church I've been attending is actually a church that was founded by the author and his disciples. I really enjoyed the story and completely understand how it has inspired so many people. My only grievance is that it seemed much too short especially when you consider how much the authors went through and the story they are telling. While I was reading I found myself getting lost with the timeline because there is no mention of how much time has passed between the events taking place. Aside from that, I found myself anxious to get to the next chapter each time I read. I do wish that they had chosen to include more details and maybe made this one book into a small series to truly understand everything.
This is real Christianity. An inspiring story about one man and his journey with His savior, and the continued ripple effect that continues to this day. The book encouraged me to keep on struggling to spread the good news of God and the hope that comes with the sacrifice and love and redemption of Jesus Christ.
Out cry in the barrio was a great book it was a cool how freddie quit being a junky and actually became a pastor and it would have been better if those traitor's did'nt try to poison freddies daugther mind with lie and emty promises if she left her father and mother. over all the book was great

Amazing true story. Slow moving. Author is founder of Victory Temple and homes, which started in San Antonio, and have spread around Texas, and Mexico. (Not for kids.)
