Leigh Neely and Jan Hamilton Powell are the writing team of Neely Powell. They met working at a rock ‘n roll radio station, discovered they’d both rather be writing fiction, and have been close friends ever since.

Their path to cowriting paranormal romance took some detours. Leigh’s resume chronicles a diverse career as a disk jockey, newspaper reporter, advertising copywriter, magazine writer and editor. Jan wrote 24 romance novels as Celeste Hamilton for Silhouette and Avon Books and then built a career in corporate communications and public relations.

Neely Powell became a successful team when they turned their attention to shifters, weres, witches, ghosts, fae, and all things supernatural. Their first novel was TRUE NATURE from The Wild Rose Press, followed by The Witches of New Mourne trilogy, AWAKENING MAGIC, HAUNTING MAGIC and HEALING MAGIC.

Their rules for maintaining a partnership are simple: be honest, be kind, and bring Diet Coke and chocolate.

I liked this story. It had lots of good points but a few lows for me as well. One of the lows is it was sort of scattered. There are lots of characters and lots of views and it hops from one thing to the next. It might be on Zoe’s view and story for a long while then totally skip to Hunter’s and the new developments in his like or his past. After reading the author Bio’s I see now why this maybe since it is a collaboration of two authors. The story started a bit slow but did grow on me. I loved Hunter and especially his story. That alone would have made a good book.
I listened to this in audio and wasn’t fond of the narration. I think if a male had done it, perhaps it would have been more powerful. However, I do think the choice for Zoe’s voice was good… I just felt the story should have been more in Hunter’s view than Zoe.
If you like shifters, big cats, Paranormal stories, urban fantasy, private investigators and attorneys this is for you…. HOWEVER, there is no real romance.

True Nature explores the concept of the public persona and the private life. Hunter MacRae is a family lawyer in a small town in New Jersey. His clients are primarily getting divorces or settling child custody disputes. He has a reputation for finding the truth, exposing adulterers, and keep prenuptial agreements intact.

Helping him in his pursuits is sharp-tongued PI, Zoe Buchanan. She dislikes chasing unfaithful husbands and wives, but knows it pays the bills. She's loyal, hard working, and practical. She relies heavily on gut instinct, which she later finds is a fledgling psychic ability. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as well as hoped.

When Hunter's grandfather dies, a new character enters the fray. Strong, aided by an ancient commitment to the MacRae clan, and fiercely protective of Hunter, Evan Egan has his own secret skills.

Now they all must face the true evil in the world of Scottish shape shifters. From the streets of Manhattan to the backroads of small New Jersey towns, they seek to keep the MacRae alive and defeat the mutants.

I received this book free from Goodreads.
I enjoyed the storyline. I all most read the book in one sitting. When I finished, I wanted to read the next in the series. The blurb on the book gives a good summation of the plot, so I wont repeat. We get some answers to who and what the main characters are, but there is still a mystery to why they are together.
I recommend this book.

WOW!!

Not your run of the mill paranormal--well written, superb storyline and well developed characters that I want to continue to follow. So....when is the next book coming out??? The potential wealth of stories is limitless....soon, I hope.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It held my interest, despite only able to read two chapters (or 4) per day. And when I did get the time, I could not put it down:) Excellent story, and I'm calling this a Recommended Read on my blog. Not your typical shifter story:)

I really enjoyed the paranormal detective theme. It worked out really well in this book.

I would suggest this book for all paranormal lovers. Good for adults and mature teens.

I hope there is a continuation of the story. I really want to know what happens next.
