Drama at the max. The ending was a little surprising, but getting there was pretty boring. The most boring wedding and honeymoon that could be.

Nothing Breaks Like a Heart is a complex, twisty mystery that definitely kept me guessing and revising my opinions of the characters. It’s filled with a cast of strong personalities, plenty of secrets, and an abundance of angles and games being played. I was definitely hooked and had trouble putting it down! Another thrilling mystery, with intrigue, romance and emotion, by a mastery of suspense!

I ended up downloading this book on Audible simply because it came with my subscription and I was in need of a new audiobook for my commute to work. I went in with nearly zero information; all I knew was it was a thriller/suspense and had an over 4 star rating in Goodreads. And I can honestly say this book was a pleasant surprise.

I found myself hooked from the very beginning. The author doesn’t hesitate to dive right into the questions, secrecy and second-guessing. There is romance, an art heist and so much intrigue. The gaslighting in this book was so powerful even I found myself questioning everything I thought I knew.

We start off with a bang; Lauren, the FMC, finds herself trapped in the hotel in which she works as a fire blazes around her. Little did she know that she would be marrying her rescuer in just 6 short months. But as the wedding and honeymoon ensued, Lauren finds herself question everything she knows about her new husband, along with everyone else staying at the resort.

This book will have you guessing all the way to the end, and just when you think you have everything figured out you get thrown for a loop. That twist at the end had my jaw on the floor.

I love a book where I can really get invested in the story and the characters. A book where I end up talking to the characters almost always end up in my list of favorite reads. And this was one of those books. I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone I know.

Nothing Breaks Like a Heart will take you for a ride. Lauren life is in not the best especially after recently losing her mom. When she meets Andrew she finally believes she found the man of her dreams. But nothing is what you see, after her a whirlwind romance you start to see cracks with her relationship with Andrew. Lauren life is put in danger more than once. We see lots of twists and turns that you won’t see coming. This story had lots of intrigue and I was captivated from the very beginning. This definitely kept me on the edge of my seat.

Arc was provided for honest review.

Ms. Freethy’s books are so good, but she out did herself on this one. I had a hard time putting this book down, just to make supper for my family! This story has mystery, suspense, romance, and betrayal. I had my view of Lauren change as I read the book. A fairy tail wedding was given to Lauren and her savior from a fire, Andrew, at her company’s new resort. Unfortunately for Lauren she was more of a quiet behind the scenes person. And sometimes evil people come out in fairy tails. My heart went out to Lauren as she didn’t know who to trust. The accidents that happened around the resort, especially to Lauren would scare anyone. I was trying to determine who was good and who was bad through the whole book. This book is an edge of your seat thriller you don’t want to miss. I strongly encourage you to read it.

I’m pretty sure I was on the edge of my seat the entire book! This one is full of suspense and twists that I didn’t see coming. Lauren gets saved from a fire by Andrew, they quickly fall in love, and are in the midst of their wedding week when their happily ever after starts to look a little questionable, and I ate it up. I felt more and more suspicious as new secrets came to light, and I had to know what was next. I really enjoyed this one!

Uneven pace and plot was kind of all over the place and completely unrealistic in several spots. MFC Lauren was hella annoying. Lots of side characters that spin in and out of the storyline. I've loved lots of this author's books, this was not one of them.

This story had an interesting plot. The story seemed to drag for a bit in the beginning but picked up halfway through. I like that the reader feels they knew who done it and then there are twists. Story definitely had me on the edge of my seat!

This book read like badly edited elementary school prose. Lines like “You seemed so sad and unhappy” (WTF) and “I kept feeling like I wasn’t going to make it, and I was so close to not making it.” 🤮 The run-on sentences, missed quotation marks, overwrought cliché dialogue (people don’t use their significant others’ names in every sentence when talking to them), you name a problem — this book had it.

I was fooled by the psychological thriller label. Absolute junk, terrible characters, bad writing. Judging whoever published this drivel.

Barbara Freethy has done it again; I absolutely loved Nothing Breaks Like a Heart and thoroughly enjoyed reading it! It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Who does not love a romantic thriller with a surprise ending and lots of plot twists and turns? Once again Barbara Freethy, a must-read author for me, has shown that she is a master storyteller and definitely did not disappoint her readers. I love how she developed the story line and the characters. I was hooked from the first few pages, and it was impossible to put it down and I loved every moment on every page of this incredible page turner! I love the romantic thriller, the setting, and the amazing characters. I love that she wrote Nothing Breaks Like a Heart in the first person from the perspective of the main character, Lauren Gray. I loved getting inside her mind and knowing her thoughts and how she really feels. My favorite part is how Barbara Freethy incorporates the name of the book into the story. Nothing Breaks Like a Heart is the story of Lauren Gray, marketing employee at the Carrington Group who was working on a new marketing campaign for the Carrington Coastal Retreat in Catalina. After being rescued from a burning building Lauren begins dating her rescuer, Andrew Chadwick, a real estate developer. Andrew quickly proposes and Lauren and Andrew become the happy couple in Lauren’s marketing campaign. Mysterious occurrences happen to Lauren. As Lauren and Andrew, along with Ethan Stark, an insurance investigator, researching the loss of artwork in the fire, work together to figure out who is behind all the events, things slowly change between Lauren and Andrew, Lauren, and Ethan. I love the chemistry between them. I love the secrets that Lauren and Ethan share with one another and all the surprises that they discover together while trying to find answers. A surprise plot twist puts Lauren’s life in danger multiple times. I love all the unexpected plot twists and turns throughout the story, including the one the threatens the relationship between Lauren and Andrew. One of my favorite part of the story is the surprise that is revealed at the end of the story. I also loved the memories that Lauren has of her mother and how that gives her the strength to persevere during one of the plot twists. Nothing Breaks Like a Heart was an incredible romantic thriller and had me guessing who was behind the events that were happening to Lauren, the destruction of her and Andrew’s hotel room, and the attacks on Lauren. The closer Lauren and Ethan get to solving the mystery the more risks are involved putting Lauren’s life in danger. I never saw the villain or the real story behind other events that took place in the past until it was revealed in the story. It truly took me by surprise. I love how Lauren changed during the story from, becoming a strong confident woman achieving her own dreams and how Ethan made changes in his life. My favorite part is the ending, and how it is a perfect ending. I love the descriptions of the Catalina setting, makes me want to visit the resort. Barbara Freethy has once again delivered an amazing story filled with everything that I have come to love about her books. She has once again provided her readers with the amazing characters that I have come to love and expect in her books, they feel like family! I love how Barbara develops her characters in such a way that you fall in love with them and care about them much like a good friend. Barbara Freethy continues to deliver all that and so much more. It was an incredible romantic thriller. Looking for a great romantic thriller, then I highly recommend Nothing Breaks Like a Heart. I received an advanced copy from the author.

📚🚤🎦👰NOVEL THOUGHTS👰🎦🚤📚

2.5⭐⭐

A new bride and groom are being treated to the wedding of their dreams by a resort magnate as long as they are willing to help advertise the luxury features of the newest resort. They happily comply but something that should be the best days of their lives, turn into a catastrophe of the highest level! And the secrets which will come to light will take the reader by surprise!
But let's back up and see how it all unfolded.
Six months ago while Lauren was working late in her marketing job at the hotel, a fire breaks out and she is trapped. She frantically tries to escape the inferno that is likely to end her life, when a man comes out of no where and carries her out to safety. Don't know if you'd call nearly losing your life a meet-cute, but after the fire, Lauren and Andrew will have a whirlwind romance, fall deeply in love. The fire, it is determined, was to cover tracks of thieves who stole millions of dollars of artwork from Mr. Carrington's building, and the insurance inspector, Ethan, is suspicious of Lauren and Andrew since they were alone in the hotel at the time of the theft. But then, Mr. Carrington, the owner of these high end hotels and resorts learns that his employee is planning a wedding, he offers to hold their wedding; cost is not an factor. She brings her besties, he brings his as well as a woman who factored in his past but only because he can introduce her to the people who might hire her to be their designer of the on site villas. The wedding is gorgeous and Lauren happily anticipates the upcoming days of their honeymoon. The happy couple returns to their suite only to find the place trashed and a cryptic message on the wall..."you'll be sorry...." Kinda a mood killer and it only goes down from there. A trail ride on a horse goes horribly wrong and Lauren is thrown off her horse and a casual day on a yacht nearly ends Lauren's life again. All of these weird things happening to her begins to make her question the people in her life, even her new husband when Ethan, who is on site to set up all sorts of security for Mr. Carrington's latest collection which is to be housed in this newest hotel, makes her think more and more about Andrew's background and the people around him. Can it be true that she doesn't know anything about this man she married?
The book's ending is far more interesting with all the twists that come out than the start of the story. The Lauren character is so meek and is always questioning the comings and goings, trying to justify everything as it happens. It got so tiresome! Andrew has so many secrets and she is so blind. Is she that gullible and needy? A big hole is left in her life when she mother died and she needs what Andrew can give her in her time of sorrow and loneliness. It was hard to accept the sudden 180 that Lauren does at the end of the book in a matter of a few minutes as she takes her life back. There is only a little intrigue for me as the story unfolds and it got a bit boring.

"Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" by Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson was playing in my mind the entire time I was listening to this.

There is a fire in Lauren's workplace, and she is saved by Andrew. Six month later, the are about to get married, and since the Lauren's company can use the positive reinforcement, their wedding and honeymoon will be paid by the company and be used as advertisement.

Lauren doesn't care. She is in love and happy, but the insurance worker the company hired, Ethan is very suspicious of Andrew. He thinks the fire was Andrew's doing and he started the fire to hide his tracks after stealing valuable art work from the company. Ethan's suspicions make Lauren question things, too and Andrew gives her a lot to question. He invited his ex girlfriend Alison to the wedding, for starters and Lauren didn't know about it. Things starts to happen to Lauren; someone spooks her horse, causing her to fall down, someone pushes her down a boat. She is convinced someone is trying to kill her and she just wants to know who. And why.

SPOILERS AHEAD

It is a multi-layered plan, so I will try to put it in order. Andrew was a thief, just as Ethan suspected. He started the fire, but it wasn't the only thing he did. He found a file on the owner of the company Victor's table, and he learnt that Lauren was Victor's daughter, so he decided to use Lauren to get closer to Victor.

He made a plan with Alison, but Alison was upset Andrew was marrying Lauren. Alison was also suspicious that Andrew had another plan which didn't include her, which she was right. She tried to kill Lauren twice (the horse and the boat), but she was getting unhinged and she needed to be taken out of the picture, so she was killed.

It wasn't Andrew who killed her, though. It was Bennett, Victor's son. Bennett didn't like his father, but he liked his his money, and he didn't want to share the inheritance with Lauren. He worked with Alison after Alison got upset with Andrew, but he got scared that Alison could ruin the plan, so he got rid of her.

In the end, both Bennett and Andrew tried to kill Lauren, but she survived both attemps. Andrew, his best friend and partner in crime Colin were arrested, as well as Bennett, and Lauren realized she was strong and she would be fine even though her mother was dead. She also realized she liked Ethan, and she decided to try and get to know her father better.

It was an engaging story, if a bit on the predictable side. I had fun listening to it, and I especially enjoyed the wholesome and hopeful ending. All in all, pretty good read, this was.

I am a huge fan of Barbara Freethy's stories. Most of the stories span over a short period of time, so you are propelled on a fast track of suspense trying to figure out "whodunnit".

Lauren and Andrew are about to celebrate a dream wedding in a resort location. The celebration is part of a big marketing campaign to highlight the new resort and the brand. The two met 6 months prior when they were escaping a fire in the building that she works for. Her employer is the owner of the resort. Lauren is overwhelmed and excited about the event and also a little sad as her mother who passed away will not be with her. Andrew is also excited about the nuptials as he will try to leverage his new connection to elevate his business.

The wedding is almost flawless, but an ex of Andrews shows up and it does not settle well for Lauren. She is on high alert with her appearance as strange things start to happen after the wedding that puts Lauren in danger. Ethan is an insurance investigator, who was invited by the owner, Victor. Victor would like to unveil a new art collection to close friends during the wedding week. Ethan is also working on an ongoing investigation that started with the fire and missing art. He believed Lauren and Andrew were the top suspects because they were present during the file. However, his mind is slowly changing with Lauren as she becomes the victim of unfortunate injuries that the company and her husband, Andrew have spun as accidents, but Ethan is beginning to see something else unfold.

The events of the week become more dangerous as the plot begins to reveal itself. The ending was met with a couple of surprises that were unexpected. I read this story quickly as the suspense kept me hooked until the end.

My task: Write a glowing review for a book that I loved when I know that one wrong move can spoil the entire experience for readers.
Here goes.
Want to know what Barbara Freethy’s “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” is about? Read the book’s description, because this review will not add details to that. Then, open the cover (or click your e-reader) and dive in.
But — erase all the commitments on your calendar because you will not want to be interrupted.
I’ve read Freethy’s books for years and have enjoyed every single one. Freethy excels at her romances based around families (you know the ones — every title tells the story of a different sibling or cousin).
“Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” is a standalone suspense title. I’ve always enjoyed Freethy’s suspense books, but this one is her very best.
I enjoyed the first-person narrative in which I experienced the roller coaster ride as our heroine experienced it.
If you’re like me and prefer suspense that makes you jump (rather than horror that grosses you out), I know you will love “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” from start to finish just as I did.

This book was an absolute rollercoaster of suspense, keeping me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The tension builds masterfully, and just when I thought I had things figured out, another twist would send me reeling. The story is packed with unexpected reveals that I never saw coming, making it impossible to put down.

The premise alone is gripping—a dream wedding turned into a nightmare, a husband with dangerous secrets, and a heroine who must uncover the truth before it’s too late. The author does a phenomenal job of weaving mystery and psychological suspense, keeping me constantly second-guessing every character’s true intentions. The stakes are high, and the emotional depth adds even more weight to the unraveling of trust and deception.

I loved how the novel played with the idea that the strongest lies are the ones we tell ourselves. It made me question everything right alongside the protagonist, creating an immersive and chilling reading experience. If you love books with twists and turns, suspense that keeps you guessing, and a storyline that pulls you in from page one, this is a must-read!

Well, it's Saturday afternoon and this means it is time for me a throw on an audiobook and get the house cleaned. I chose this one from the Audible Plus section as I ran out of credits and was pleasantly surprised. I have not heard of the author, Barbara Freethy, before but really enjoyed her writing style.

This book was easy to follow and get to know the characters. I find sometimes with audiobooks my mind wanders and I might miss something, but with this one, the flow was great and I really enjoyed the storyline.

The narrator was just okay. No effort was made to distinguish one character from another and to me, lacked the feeling of emotion. Pretty much, it was just the author reading the book. On the positive side, the narrators voice was not annoying on 1.8x speed for me.

While a lot of the storyline is predictable, the twist did catch me off guard. Main character, Lauren, was someone I was rooting for and wished she had more confidence in herself.

I wouldn't mind a follow up book to follow up with the epilogue! I finished this in one shot so it was good.

Nothing Breaks Like A Heart is a thrilling standalone by Barbara Freethy that will leave readers unable to close the book unfinished. Lauren is surprised when the marketing plan she devised for the company she works for is adopted with her and her fiancé as the stars. A fully paid for wedding and honeymoon at a resort…and all she and her intended Andrew must do is smile their way through all the pictures being taken at each event. Lauren finds it hard to keep smiling though as she seems to have become seriously accident prone, and she begins to question the validity of those around her…including her groom. Ms. Freethy is very skilled at instilling questions into her characters and her readers so that both are unprepared for the inevitable shock at the end. This reviewer is a huge fan of everything Barbara Freethy has written, but especially of her mysteries which never disappoint! I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. Most highly recommend.

Wow...just wow. I did not see that ending coming.

Working late, Lauren Gray, an employee of Carrington Industries, is in her office when she realizes the building is on fire. She is struggling to breathe and thinks this is the end, when she is rescued. Her rescuer, Andrew Chadwick, a real estate developer who had a meeting in the building that day, takes an interest in her. Since she feels lost and alone after her mother's death, she falls for him. A whirlwind courtship and an all expense paid destination wedding at the newest Carrington Industries hotel, and everything should feel great! There are hints that all is not as it seems, and it's not.

This book was so interesting! Suspicions about everything and everyone involved. Death threats, stolen possessions, old friends, kidnapping, murder, and finding out more about yourself and your heritage than you ever wanted to. A wonderfully delicious feast for the mind.

Barbara Freethy once again delivers a psychological thriller you won't be able to put down.

Lauren was used to the single life and working late nights, but that all changed when the handsome stranger, Andrew, saved her from a hotel fire where she worked. Six months later, they are madly in love and are celebrating their dream wedding.

What should have been the best time of her life quickly turns into a nightmare. Incident after incident, it appears someone is trying to hurt Lauren. To make matters worse, Ethan Stark, an insurance investigator, is investigating Lauren and Andrew for art theft. Little by little, Lauren learns her new husband isn’t who he says he is. The more she learns, the more Lauren's life is at risk. Will she survive her honeymoon?

I was hooked by the first chapter, and I was sad when the story ended. The twists and turns had me turning pages well into the night. Freethy never fails to deliver a good thriller.

This thriller kept me on the edge of my seat. Lauren is a lonely woman in marketing struggling after she loses her mother. When suddenly she gets caught in a fire, and gets rescued by her dream man. Andrew is a man that seems too good to be true. He’s the most perfect, attentive, and fulfilling man. As their whirlwind relationship takes on a life of their own, Lauren somehow finds herself as the star of a luxury wedding for her and Andrew being given at her work resort. It’s any girls dream, or is it? Strange things start happening, and suddenly Lauren’s dream starts to turn into a nightmare. Lauren quickly finds herself in trouble with no clue who she can trust. This book had so many twists and turns that kept me guessing up until the very end. Another fantastic thriller from Barbara Freethy.
