Someone once What is stronger? Martial arts or Magic?
I Why not simply use both?
In a new world brimming with possibilities—Levels, Classes, Skills, Dungeons, and Monsters—I found myself reborn as a noble family’s troublemaker son.
As a gamer, a magical world and a lazy life as a rich noble's son should have been a dream come true. But there was a massive catch. An absurd quest threw everything into chaos.
[ Make a cult; Save the World.]
How could I, in the body of a useless noble, survive In a world dominated by jealous Gods and nefarious Devils, while treading on their domains?
Thankfully not all hopes is lost. A few things can help me accomplish my quest.
A fiancee that also happens to be a vampire. A Magic Academy where I can find minions and allies. Finally --A Mysterious System.
Really weak. I only got 1/2 way thru this nonsense
The storyline could have worked but the writing was very poor and relied on repeated deus ex machina.
The MC, an injured kickboxer is reincarnated into the useless son of a baron on a medieval world. He had a rep for womanizing and obnoxiousness as well as being physically weak.
The MC used otherworldly techniques to level quickly, but the explanation was pretty weak. He supposedly used Qi enhansed kickboxing against magic and prevailed repeatedly.
He was sent to a nearby town to investigate a suspicious situation and ended up in the middle of a war between werewolves and vampires. Most of them were much higher level, yet multiple times, he pulled victory out of his butt. All while cheesy dialogue was being uttered in the middle of chaos and destruction. Turns out that while the wolves had taken over the town, they were actually refugees from the vampire war. Still the people that got killed were just as dead. Then the vamps attacked, laughing and joking as they destroyed the town, but also got upset that everyone didn't just roll over and die, with more cheesy dialogue.
Fun Isekai Transmigration light novel, in need of significant editing
The setting is fun, Isekai MC from a normal world picking up an additional transmigrated soul from a cultivation world when he awakens in a the of someone in a System world.
Unfortunately the writing comes across as an AI transcribed translation from a badly dubbed anime, or mistranslated manga type light novel. As an example, chapters often have paragraphs with the same events happening in different contradictory ways. Wrong words are used in nonsensical ways, sentence structure is clunky and awkward, etc.
Setting wise, there’s System messages, but none of the stats and such one would expect in a LitRPG.
If this novel were to be edited by someone fluent in English it’d be a great read, unfortunately it either wasn’t edited at all by a human outside of using AI, or whoever edited it doesn’t actually speak English and is only familiar with badly dubbed dialogue.
The story is fairly decent and interesting. The MC is kind of annoying though, he went from some MMA fighter to someone crippled in his first life to a shut in gamer apparently. He gets transported into the world of the game he was last playing but also, somehow, the mechanics and abilities from a game he is the best at work in this world. He SOMEHOW invents cultivation for himself and is apparently the only person in this world to use it since the world is based off mana and spells.
The MC constantly being called trash and such got old FAST. I get that the previous owner of his body was viewed a certain way, but he was also crippled and never expected to amount to much. I feel more sorry for the real Iskandaar than the MC now. Heck, his own father treated him like a waste till the MC suddenly took over and made him strong.
The fight with the vampire lord was just such a letdown. We all knew he was going to activate that IDIOTIC skill he got when it happened, but that skill was just stupid. It’s clearly in there so the author can throw something ridiculous at the MC, he will activate it, then emerge victorious and suffer from plot harming drawbacks. It really made me cringe when he lost all that lifespan and everything else. Honestly the worst designed “skill” I have ever seen in a litrpg. Don’t even get me started on the “experience” inequality. Basically kills a demi god and gets 9 levels for it!! Kills a couple ghouls and a spider, gets one. The fact he didn’t shoot to like 5th ascension from killing the vampire almost made me put the book down. No LOGICAL explanation for it.
I am curious to keep reading the story, but also hoping it gets better.
So I listened to this book once but didn't review and picked it up a second time. I did not finish the book the second time because I am pretty certain I remember why I didn't continue with this series. My point being that my memory may not be perfect but neither do I get paid for writing reviews so I'm going with it.
MC gets transported into a video game he played once and complained about. Using his otherworldly knowledge he quickly cures his new body's bone disease and quickly levels up to something like level 15. In recognition of this MC is sent on a mission which results in MC being the deciding factor in a battle between something like level 500 pseudo gods.
I enjoyed the first part of this book because the MC had the knowledge necessary to fix his body and level up. Why the author thought involving the low level MC in battle between gods was smart is beyond me. Frankly, given the author’s own world building it makes no sense that the MC survived being in the general vicinity, let alone being an active participant. Worse it was completely unnecessary as the MC’s story was progressing nicely to that point.
Bottom line: MC has plot armor Superman would envy.
It is a great book. The story blends eastern cultivation with standard LitRPG progression. Main character following both paths. However, author is more familiar with the cultivation side as LitRPG elements are not that fleshed out in my opinion.
Now what I really liked in here is the main character’s noble dynamic. Usually when a story contains nobles it goes in one of two ways. Either main character is not a noble where nobles are usually portrayed as privileged enemies. Or, main character is a noble but the noble life is so cutthroat that it would be way easier if he were a commoner. None of these are is the case here. Here main character is a noble with all the privileges that comes with it. That is even with the trash reputation he has. He still faces lot of adversity sure but you actually feel like a noble here with a loving family which really sold me on this book.
While the noble thing really makes me like the book, even without that dynamic story is pretty decent. Therefore, I would recommend it.
This book was pretty good, and went by very quickly for it being 615 pages long.
The MC wakes up on another world in a different body, finally free of his personal prison of being crippled in an accident. But his new body is weak due to a medical issue. This new world is set in a video game he's played, and so he uses cultivation tactics to fix his body to normal. From that point, he manages to kill many more powerful individuals to level up at an absurd rate. We're talking multiple levels in a day kind of thing that you experience in more recent MMOs where they make it easy.
The MC has no harem by the end of the book. He's engaged to one woman that doesn't really like him, and has a maid that doesn't seem to like him but is a bit in awe of him. He's done nothing more than kiss the back of a hand so far, which makes me worry this is very Eastern harem where the MC stays a virgin forever.
The writing was decent, and I'd be willing to read the next book in this series.
Yea, I found out after I finished it (somehow) that this was a web novel. The grammar is bad, very distracting, if this was on wuxia world I wouldn’t mind it, but charging money for this is embarrassing, here is an early example: "Ah, allow me to apologize. I was simply curious how… such an interesting specimen was doing here.” It obviously went through editing, I feel bad for them as this must have been a pain to edit, there are few spelling mistakes, the problem is mainly grammar. Often the wrong word is used, or sentence structure could have been better to convey meaning. The only target audience for this would be people that don’t mind reading decently translated wuxia. It’s got a lot of the op mc stuff if your into that.
The biggest drawn down for me personally was the lack of logic in powerleveling people, the author never gives a reason for why parents aren't power leveling their children. Other litrpgs at least expend more effort rationalizing the game logic.
The book had a fairly good start And a good middle but towards the end it just got boring I mean they're spoilers and I'm going to just go ahead and tell you that you know he thinks that his life is short and he's gonna die in 7 months and the author keeps writing these little twists that just distract from the story I mean this should be I mean they're spoilers and I'm going to just go ahead and tell you that you know he thinks that his life is short and he's gonna die in 7 months and the author keeps writing these little twists that just distract from the story I mean this should be about his way to building his cult not all this job drama And running around nonsense...
This is a good book, and I enjoyed reading it. The characters are good, and the story is not bad. There were a few times where it started to drag a little, but it soon picked up.
I might have given it 5 stars, but at the very end, literal last pages, there are two times where paragraphs were messed up, or rewritten without removing the originals. It is a shame, as it makes the last scene just make you go "What is happening?", instead of sealing the end and preparing for the next book.
It does not matter if the journey is great, most people only really remember the end.
start off with a fast pace, not 100% action all the time but an excellent story
I don’t give a lot of books 5 stars, but this one deserves it. It’s the beginning of a new series, but it starts off fast and keeps on going. A continuous page Turner, not too many stats, likable character, even shows that he can have some cowards at times Truly three dimensional. Likable side characters, good world building., it’s definitely a page Turner. Going to read the next book in the series, but this one is a definite hit. Don’t take my word for it, even though I think you should, read it. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
I honestly think it needs a proofread and a bit of a rework. Especially with some of the scene transitions, some of them are just jarring and some are just confusing until you get it. Besides that, the book was actually pretty good. The mc feels a little cookie cutter but you can tell theres at least some effort in him. I see a lot of Hikaru in some of the scenes, especially the fighting and it's great. One thing Hikaru can do well is fighting scenes. But beyond that, it's decent. I hope the second book is more polished.
Lots of plot holes and logic holes. For example, MC enters the black market and the vendor is selling random cups for 5 coppers. It doesn't make sense of a black market to be selling cheap wares he has no idea about.
Author needs to tell us post-fight how he would have died. This never makes sense and is kind of cringe. Incorporate "close calls" in fighting or don't bother telling me. I hate when narration tells me how things should be, could be, etc. Incorporate it in the story or don't bother at all.
Author couldn't even be bothered to not have medieval characters not use modern slang and know about modern technology etc. making the setting pretty meaningless.
All the bad stuff of litRPG and cultivation thrown in. Character is OP with special abilities, levels absurdly fast, beats enemies far above him making the entire point of having a game system void.
If you throw out half the book that's game garbage and fix the really awkward conversations and anachronisms, it's a generic OP MC isekai.
This is written in the style of an Asian light novel, meaning it's writing is poor, dialog makes no sense, grammar basically doesn't exist, absurdity happens constantly, and so on. It's very poorly written. Lots of "...." and lots of over-the-top reactions. Then there's the system that literally says "ding!" every time. The author should have described the sound, but like all shitty light novels, he uses onomatopoeia. For some reason there's two blank lines between each paragraph, which is extremely annoying and obviously there to inflate the page count for KU.
This started out lightly parodying over-the-top demonic martial arts books, but unfortunately gradually just turned into one. It wasn’t terrible, however, not what I was looking for. There appear to be chunks of text missing near the start (he talks in detail about a quest we never see), and fairly regular minor errors, but it’s not unreadable or anything. You might enjoy it if you’re looking for the more serious tone it takes later on.
This one definitely kept my attention. The authors had me hooked. Great take on a returner that is definitely a bit OP. He definitely doesn’t just blast through everything and there are adversaries well beyond him but he manages well. I really want to see more of the other characters get developed and there relationship to the protagonist deepen. Looking forward to book 2!
MC is thrown into a world he knows from a computer game. The world knows only magic but he knows cultivation and kickboxing too while having a forbidden but OP skill tree. He ascends quickly, finds allies and foes and tries to save the world while hiding his skills.
The beginning is very rough and could need some heavy editing. We see some deus ex machina and the MC is of course OP. But still the story is fast paced I found it a good sunday entertainment.
Hikaru Genji is the author of the brilliant 'Son of the Hero King' series, so I expected great things. Unfortunately if I was him I would distance myself from this rubbish. There is absolutely no depth to any of the characters, least of all the supposed MC. Sorry Hikaru, but of a lemon this one.
Fun enough read, better than I'd expected from Genji; I disliked his "Son of the Hero King" series for the lack of story. One mention though: there is a slight overlap in character type and name with the protagonist from the Manwha "The Heavenly Demon Can't Live a Normal Life". The background and name are somewhat similar.
600 pages in and while the mc has a fiance, it has started out as purely a political arrangement with maybe now the smallest seeds of true feelings starting to seep in. Definitely not your traditional harem genre book 1. No relationships, not so much as a kiss.
The litrpg elements really didn't work for me. It must be a trope in a decent novel somewhere, but I find the mix of levels and Ascension ranks to be totally off-putting. Not that levels or Ascension rank actually means anything at all.
Then the book ends by arriving at Hogwarts. Not going to stick around for book 2.
The story is good and interesting however some parts of the book are a mess of typos and bad formatting that tend to loop in such way that it seems the author updated parts with improved dialogue and typo fixes only to not replace the original section of text possiblely cause by a software bug?
I was hesitant at first to read a new one of these series, but I was very pleasantly surprised and I found myself reading in all of my free time to see what was going to happen next. I thoroughly enjoyed this book so far and can’t wait to drive into book 2!!!
This is a nice mash up of genres with a likeable MC and flushed out secondary characters. Good fight sequences. The world sounds fun to explore and with a huge power up advantage the MC will have alot of fun. Looking forward to the next book!
DNF - I like an isekai as much as the next guy and I was intrigued by the premise but between the poor grammar, nonsense dialog and obnoxiously genre savvy MC I bounced out of this one pretty quickly.
This is just standard cultivation novel with all the tropes and pitfalls. There is nothing new and if you have read one story like this before then you have read this one. The MC is a hypocrite the female leads are boring and the story makes 0 sense.
This story was very entertaining. Not overly burdened with tedious reviews of stats leveling up, this story progressed with just the right amount of action, drama, and interesting characters. Looking forward to continuing this adventure.
