HARM Less by Arti Mishra is a resourceful book on conserving environmental biodiversity. It is a different book as it takes a peek into our daily consumer habits and how that harms self and our ecosystem of nature. The book is a powerful reminder for all of us with imperative themes like focusing on natural and sustainable living by incorporating small visible changes in our homely lifestyle. How’s that possible? For that, the book emphasizes reconnecting with nature and adopting a more mindful lifestyle.
When we say lifestyle – we mean the products that we use while bathing, oral care, beauty care, and in kitchen – the author firmly believes that all those fancy products with colourful packages are more of chemically contaminated that damage our body in long use and whatever residue it drops that goes in soil, water, air…subsequently polluting and affecting the ecosystem and food chain.
The book highlights the negative impacts of modern conveniences and chemical-laden products on health and the environment. In some of the chapters the author explains them one by one with possible impacts. However, she also adds up feasible solutions as way of practical and accessible advice, referring anecdotal experiences from her personal life.
Many reviewers across social media handles have so far appreciated the book's practical suggestions for making small, impactful changes. It avoids advocating for drastic lifestyle fixes, instead offering achievable steps.
“HARM Less” has been very well received in India. Many reviewers describe the book as ‘eye-opening,’ ‘inspiring,’ and ‘empowering’. In nutshell, the book appears to be an educational guide for those seeking to live a healthier, more environmentally conscious life, free from chemical contamination.

Harm Less by Arti is one nice book on environment. It doesn’t amplify wildfires, climate change, or global warming. Rather appeals for smaller changes in our personal care by going natural. The author believes that whatever we are using today is infused with high dose of chemical. Unfortunately, we all are consuming it, becoming used to it. However, the products that we use leave chemicals through kitchens, bathrooms, alleys, and streets – it further causes harm to our natural surroundings. Spoiling earth, its vegetation, crops, air and water quality! Whether it is a body care or face care product, it binds us with chemicals. That is not perceptible but in some sense that is harming our body.

Fragrances can play with your hormones? They smell pleasing, deep inside the chemicals used in it are actually deploring your natural hormones. Especially in the case of leg, foot, and shaving creams are used synthetic fragrances to longer the life of fragrances. A chemical named “phthalates” is used in fragrances.
All that smells good is not really good. Fragrances that last on chemicals cause indoor air pollution and impact the air quality of kitchens, bathrooms, toilets, etc. Thus, before you choose any fragrant for home use, consider your decision. There are natural alternatives to synthetic-oriented fragrances as well.

Is the question relevant today – can we coexist with nature? Can we live with it? Have you ever enjoyed the rustling of leaves and swaying trees on a windy day? Did you ever heed on the pitter-patter of rain? How about the petrichor after the first rain?
A few decades back all these were common in our childhood, daily chores, and routines. But today…it comes back as a memory…and not to everyone. Nature reminds of a circle that regenerates. And we humans have evolved systems where everything depletes after use. Yet is the time to reconnect with the nature. It is not too late!
How can we do that? It begins with our choices that we make in our everyday life, in our wardrobes, in our kitchen, in our bathrooms. They remind us that the systems we have built and habits inculcated can either connect us to the nature or pull us further away from it.
‘HARM LESS’ emphasizes on rooted living! Means: being kind and grounded towards the planet earth. The book tells us the ultimate synergy and wellbeing and balance we can have with our planet by accepting rooted living. You can know the extensive benefits of rooted living in Arti Mishra’s book “Harm Less”.
