This book gives serious “self-improvement but make it deep” energy. If you’ve been called out for being toxic—or you’re self-aware enough to notice your own red flags—this guide walks you through how to actually change. Spoiler: It’s not all “good vibes only,” but it’s worth it. 🌱

Hello, my name is Lead, but my friends call be Phoebe (Pb). Unfortunately, this book did not help me to stop being toxic. *Sigh* Guess I'll have to try the book by Tom Stokes instead. Or Anthony Felix. Or Edward Clarke. Or Taylor Blake. Or Kasey Alford. Or... (Why are there so many books about this?)

In all seriousness, this was a quick DNF. The audiobook narrator would repeat phrases, indicating the audiobook engineer didn't bother to listen and cutout the repetitive parts where the narrator stumbled on her words. I have literally never heard a book where those parts weren't edited out. The book is super short too (less than 4hrs), so this is embarrassing that no one bothered to edit. The first 20 minutes were basic stuff that you can learn in any of those psychopop YouTube videos that are out there. I'm sure if you binge watch some of those YouTube videos you'll "learn" the same things

Well, well, well… if it isn’t the consequences of my own actions—now available in book form! I picked this up thinking, Pfft, I’m not toxic… I just have strong opinions and an unmatched ability to win arguments. Turns out, that’s just a fancy way of saying, Yes, you are the problem.

This book broke it down for me in a way even my defensiveness couldn’t argue with. The 5-step guide is straightforward, no-nonsense, and—dare I say—uncomfortably accurate. It gently (but firmly) smacks you with reality, making you question why you thought gaslighting your best friend over what movie to watch was a normal Tuesday activity.

The best part? It doesn’t just call you out and leave you in an existential crisis—it actually gives you tools to stop being a walking red flag. Who knew self-awareness could be so… humbling?
