Sh*t My Dad Says #2

More Shit My Dad Says

Rate this book
The sequel to the million-selling international hit Sh*t My Dad Says

‘Human beings fear the unknown. So, whatever's freaking you out, grab it by the balls and say hello. Then it ain't the unknown anymore and it ain't scary. Or I guess it could be a sh*tload scarier’ Sam Halpern

Soon after Sh*t My Dad Says began to take off, comic writer Justin Halpern decided to take the plunge and propose to his then girlfriend. But before doing so, he asked his dad's advice, which was very, very simple (and surprisingly clean): 'Just take a day to think about it.' This book is the story of that trip down memory lane, a toe-curlingly honest pilgrim’s progress of teenage relationships, sex and love by one of the funniest writers at work today.

I'm 29. I live with my 74-year-old dad. He is awesome. I just write down shit that he says.

In the pic, I am on the far right and dad is one the far left. That's a friend between us.

Misleading title. This one doesn’t really have any shit his dad says. We get to see Justin’s desperate and sorry attempts at trying to get laid. This book was just a way to cash in the popularity of the first book. If you want to pick up this one for Justin’s dad, don’t bother.

There are not many books that can make me laugh out loud. I don’t have the most visual reactions to books. Even when it’s funny, the most you’ll get out of me is a smile.

Sam Halpern makes me laugh out loud.

He makes me snort, he makes me make squeaky sounds and weird throaty sounds when I’m trying not to laugh at night. Yes, the man is crude, and his ways of parenting are questionable, but seriously, give that guy a fucking statue. He is absolutely hilarious and honest and, say what you will, but the man does hand out good advice.
"Don't trust your instincts. Every time you're uncomfortable and you get the option to sit something out, you sit it out. When your asshole gets tight, don't listen to your gut, 'cause you've filled it with shit."

In More Shit My Dad Says Justin Halpern takes us on a journey through his life, from when he was a little boy, to when he proposed to his girlfriend. Every single time, his dad is there to make one or two amazing comments that leaves you in stitches. Then there were stories that didn’t really feature his dad, which was a shame, but they were amusing nonetheless. This is one of those quick reads that you can pick up when you need something funny. I guarantee that this will make you laugh, no matter how bad your day is.

If Sam Halpern can’t make you laugh, nothing can.
"Maybe next time you're thinking about getting shithouse drunk all night, don't."
"We were just having a good time and trying to meet people, you know?"
"Well, you don't need to get shithoused and go to Europe to do that. You're over six feet tall and your mom says you're funny. I'd say run with those two things and see where it gets you."

being a huge love of Sh*t My Dad Says, I'm highly disappointed in this one. Halfway through you stop hearing anything about the dad and only about trying to have sex or hook up. The first one made me laugh until I cried, this one has made me cry to finish it so I don't have to torture myself any longer.

Harsh? Probably but it sucks that bad.

quick simple read.. nice sequel to book one
this book was more focused on Justin than Sam really

main characters:
Sam- dad to Justin, medical doctor
Justin- son

spoilers below ⬇️

notes to remember story:
Justin wants to get married
his father suggests to Justin.. take one day to reflect on his life first.. then decide
story brings you back in time to Justin as a young boy and then a coming of age, partnered with his stupid friends
at the end he decides to marry Amanda

quotes from Sam:
(Sam) “I would be ok with me and your mom being the last 2 people on earth“
(his kids) “what about us“
(Sam) “well, I wouldn’t just move on. There’d be a grieving period, obviously. I’m not an asshole.“ 🤣

“scientifically, that’s how it breaks down. But we’re complex animals, and we are constantly changing. Things I thought 10 years ago seems like absolute bullshit now.“

“I should buy you a fucking sign that says “I don’t know“ to save you time. The best you can do is make an educated guess son.“

“It ain’t how many words you know, it’s how you use them.“

“If somethings scaring you, don’t run from it. Find out everything you can about it. Then it ain’t unknown anymore and it ain’t scary.“

People complaining about the “misleading” title should maybe get the version titled “I Suck At Girls”; it’s the same book and I’ve no idea which version came first. Although it IS a sequel to “Sh*t My Dad Says”, this one concentrates more on the author’s relationships and love life, while the father is significantly less present. Nevertheless, it’s still a fun (and funny!) book to read, which had a very hard job following the outrageously awesome first part, but gets the job done quite wonderfully 🙌🏻 Five stars without the gold medal I gave the first book! 😆

Real hilarious book, can't believe this started out as a Twitter hashtag... Quite good to read if you're even on the move (note: you may burst out laughing though) and if you're down. I quite liked this and I'm not much for non-fiction quite honestly. Gotta get my hands on the first book!

I found Shit My Dad Says better with all the funny quotes/line rather than More Shit My Dad Says.

I remember reading this one in a train, trying by all means to hold my laughter. The book is humorous. One of my books in 2017.

It was decent. I read it in 2/3 days so can’t have been that bad. Or was I just bored and had some long bus journeys?

It’s American. It’s probably far more fictitious than it makes out. And it is certainly no feat of literature.

That said, it was entertaining. It was a bit like reality tv or a shit American series in a book. Some of it relatable and funny, some of it forced and cringey.

Stories mainly include his love life or lack of, becoming a man, classic scrapes and random shit init.

Lighthearted innocent fun. I would definitely read the first one as I imagine it is much better.

Honestly this book didn’t warrant me writing a review at all.

If this book was a cricketer it would be Nicholas Pooran. Cringey, flashy, entertaining. Always good to watch. Looks a bit silly. Never does anything more than entertain for 20 minutes and then stop.

Justin Halpern's twitter feed, Sh*t My Dad Says, spawned both a wildly popular book and a television sitcom starring William Shatner as Sam Halpern. More Sh*t My Dad Says is the laugh out loud follow up.

Justin, having moved out and reconciled with his girlfriend Amanda, is contemplating asking her to marry him and seeks his dad's wisdom.

"So I'll tell you what I did right before I asked your mother to marry me: I took a day and I sat and I thought about all the things I had learned about myself, and about women, up to that point in my life. Just sat and thought. I may have smoked marijuana as well, Anyway at the end of the day, I took stock of everything I'd gone through in my head, and I asked myself if I still wanted to propose to your mother. And I did. So that's what I humbly suggest you do, unless you think you're somehow smarter than I am, which considering you share my genetics, is unlikely."

Justin takes his father's advice and More Sh*t My Dad Says traces his journey from childhood, through teenage angst, career trials, and the complications of relationships, sex and love. Despite the navel gazing narrative, this is an enjoyable memoir of sorts but it is still the gruff and obscene commentary by his father, Sam, that steals the limelight.

While I didn't find More Sh*t My Dad Says quite as hilarious or shocking as the first book it was still a lot of fun to read and at just over 150 pages it should brighten anyone's commute. Personally, I think it would be the perfect gift for an unmarried brother, (male) friend or a heavy handed hint for a commitment shy boyfriend.

I was on vacation so this review came a bit late. Cheers for no wifi and endless time to read!

Anyway, I loved the first one. It was so funny. It's hard for me to find humor books that actually make me laugh so i was really looking forward to this. I didn't quite laugh as much as I did in the first one but I definitely enjoyed reading this.

Admittedly, I read this because of the Dad. I was looking for more pearls of wisdom. I wanted more funny things that happened in his childhood. Instead, around half way, it became about Justin himself and his attempts with girls. It wasn't what I wanted or expected but I liked it. He's showing something very real about growing up in a humorous way. The stories were cute and entertaining.

All in all, it,s a quick cute read. It's not like the first one but it's good. If you wanted, well, more shit his father said, you're going to be disappointed. But if you're up for a collection of entertaining stories about the author's relationships, go for it.

This was an okay book, but I did not think it was as good as the original book "Sh*t My Dad Says".

Basically, this book is life story of the author, Justin Halpern. While there are times that he quotes his father's words, it is not as often or as funny as the first book. The reader will find out what his childhood was like, how he saw his first pornographic picture, how he lost his virginity, what his life was like after college, and how he met his wife.

Though there were some chuckling moments within the pages of the book, I did not find this book as funny as the first. The title is rather misleading because in "Sh*t My Dad Says" there's many, many quotes from his father. In this book there are some quotes, but not anywhere near as much as in the first book. Fans of the author from his other media outlets may enjoy this book more than I did. For those readers who stumbled upon the first book, such as I did, this sequel may be disappointing.

If you need a quick and easy read, if you're not offended by a bit of swearing, and more importantly if you're in need of a book that makes you lol then you could do worse than reading  More S#it My Dad Says by Justin Halpern.    Some months ago I read a review for his first book S#it My Dad Says and added to my TBR.     I still havent read that one, and from what I understand it was vastly funnier than the second installment, so I feel the need to get my hands on it now because I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Having moved home after a long term relationship break up Justin started a twitter feed about the conversations he had with his dad. Within a couple of months he had half a million followers,  a book deal and tv contract.           He calls it luck, and whilst that's true it's not all luck.    He has a terrific way with words and though his dad provides the material he's the artist who turns it into an engaging story.

I loved the first installment on Sh*it My Dad Says. I think Halpern is a wonderfully hilarious writer who just writes effortlessly entertaining stories.
I loved his annecdotes in the first installment. This book, although still containing some wonderfully funny stories, was not as good. The main problem? This book should not be a sequel to Sh*t My Dad Says, this book should be Justin trying to hook-up or something like this. About halfway through this book, the dad, the protagonist of this series, disappears and does not re-appear until the end of the book. All the rest ist filled with stories about how Justin can't get laid, or gets laid and it's bad, or how he meets weird girls until he finds the one. It's not bad, not at all! But I wanted more of the dad. This wonderful persona we got to know in the first book. If you want more of Mr. Halpern senor and his hilarious wisdom, then you will be disappointed with this book.

I read the first book and now the sequel. So all I can say is this one is just as funny as the first one. Justin Halpern had a very fun and loving relationship with his father. Some of the things in this book made me think of some of the weird thing that I did growing up and some thank God did not happen. Now I have to say that this book will appeal more to guys, because we have been there and done that. However ladies if you want an insight to the working of the mind of a grown man, who seems to be stuck acting like a twelve year old at times. Then this book can help. Is it funny?Yes. Does it explain the mysteries of the universe? No. But it can possibly make you laugh until the tears roll.

Funny, but not as great as the first. The title is misleading this book doesn't have that much of the author's father or the loving/outrageous things he says. I adored the first book, this one just does not measure up to it. Maybe if I read it as a stand alone I would have liked it more, I went in with great expextations which were not fulfilled ☆☆☆ I took a star of because of that and another because of the misleading title (I wanted to read more about his father damnit!) Still this book was nice, not as great but nice.

I really do feel like I've read this before and I guess it's in the form of "I suck at girls". So I guess this is a reread. I only noticed it when I was reading the acknowledgement part of the book? or maybe when I was trying to look for the Isbn number....

I pretty much still like it like the first time I read it. It's a simple read and it really is funny. Not the I try so hard to be funny way. I kind of wish I have this kind of hilariously direct uncle xD

Great book, especially for the current lockdown. I did find most of the situations Justin finds himself in hilarious and definitely funny, but I am more of his dad’s fan. So, because this one was more based on himself and his relationship with Amanda I did not enjoy is as much as I enjoyed the first one, Shit My Dad Says. It’s a great, simple to read book though. Ohh, and the tweets on the twitter account are hilarious, they worth being checked out.

Very Funny.
I was reading this book during my commute to and from work and it always made me chuckle.
Although there is a lot of humor and (cursing) the heart of this book is the relationship between Justin and his dad. These little ordinary and seeming insignificant interactions between parents and their children are what ultimately shape the type of relationship they will have as adults.

Brilliant and funny, I must admit when I found out his father was from a medical background, a lot of what he says makes sense. (They tend to be blunt)
Great read, made me laugh quite often and to be honest, I applaud the author on being so brave in his storytelling.

After loving "S**t My Dad Says," I was really looking forward to this one. But I was a bit disappointed. About half way through, you barely hear anything from the dad. Just maybe one or two lines at the end of each chapter. Blah. It did feel good to laugh a little, tho.
